"A cute one," she purred, "And with his dad he'd grow tall as a tree."
She gave him a look like ehhh? ehhHH??

She was rewarded with a large eye roll and a deep gulp of beer, as if it was necessary after hearing that proposal. "And what if it's a girl?" he posed.

"Owainetta," she said with a hiccup, drowning it out with the bottom of her bottle. "Doesn't matter since s'not gonna be neither."
With that thought she rolled the bottle away and reached into the cooler for another one. Her mouth twitched for a moment and then she quickly tacked on, "Y'know, since it'll be a dragon or a vampire or whatever." Sloppy, unpolished.

Jack watched her reach for a second beer, tilting his own bottle back until the dregs dripped into his mouth. He thought about telling her to watch the drinking if they were going to go graveyard hopping later, but instead he grabbed a second one for himself.
"Or a hobbit," he added casually, passing her a small sidelong grin. "We've been watching these long enough."

Chel snorted, but said nothing to respond. She only curled up on him, occassionally making comments as the events of faramir's betrayal began their set up. She actually yawned through part of it. She hadn't remembered this one being so much talking- maybe it was her own fault for being so quiet.
She found herself listening to Jack's chest more than the movie. A soft heartbeat outpacing the politics of Gondor.
Arwen appeared again, and Chel covered a laugh as the evenstar smashed. It was a bit dramatic, a little too much.
"They will answer to the king of Gondor," Chel said quietly alongside Elrond. "Andruil flame of the west-" She missed the next part because it was a lot of Elrond mumbling big fancy words. There was an instrumental part and then Aragon spoke, but sure enough Chel came back, "-Put aside the ranger- become who you were born to be." It was spoken partly in mockery, but partly for the hell of it. It was one of the only lines she remembered parroting back at Chris for weeks (albeit, with him it had been for small things like getting him to reach high shelves or forking over his candy, but that was another story for another time).
Quote:
Meanwhile, in his tent, Aragorn has a nightmare about Arwen dying at Sauron's power and the Evenstar shattering. Upon awakening in sudden anger, Aragorn is called to Théoden’s tent, where he meets Elrond, who says of Arwen dying - as Sauron's power grows, her lifespan degenerates. Elrond explains to Aragorn about Minas Tirith being lost, because to the river, a fleet of Corsair ships sail from the south. They are outnumbered, as Elrond explains, and he tells Aragorn that they need more men if they are to win this fight.
Aragorn says that there are none, but Elrond then explains that there are those men that dwells in the mountain. However, Aragorn only states that those in the mountain are murderers and traitors. They don't believe in anything, and answer to no one. However, Elrond then says that they will answer to the King of Gondor; Elrond then presents Aragorn with Andúril, the reforged shards of Narsil.

Jack grew quiet as well, though for different reasons: partially because he hadn't seen the movie before and was trying to enjoy it, for all the criticisms they gave it, and partially because the formality and the approach to said plot made for some uncomfortable parallels to the Great Knight memories he had.
There must always be seven, from beginning to end, chosen at the same time, sacrificed at the same time. We are the only ones remaining who still stand strong. In his place, he leaves his legacy, and it is us who must carry it on. Each knight part of a whole, each knight bound to fate, bound to creating their fate. Your sacrifice is the greatest, and you will continue to eternally serve. This is the duty of all Great Knights, their eternal promise to the Great King.
(Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die--)
Unconsciously, his expression began to sober. Owain stirred with guilt and longing. Jack's second beer was sipped slowly, idly, and glossed over most of what happened without meaning to.

"He's gonna go get himself a ********' sweet a** ghost army," Chel explained. It had always been one of her favorite parts; fighting alongside ghosts and demons.
"Coulda been how China went down. Too bad they were cursed and s**t- coulda made good allies." Even now Chel was thinking somewhat askew, and despite the setting her eyes scanned the room once out of habit. Like Caelius would appear out of nowhere with another bracelet for her wrist.

Jack blinked out of his reverie and said, "Seriously? Hot damn." The movie was in dire need of some better action beyond lore and chatter and skirmishes--or maybe he simply kept missing the better parts.
"Would've been pretty cool," he agreed, trying to shake off his previous thoughts. "But the kind of stuff we keep running into in the human world? Diplomacy doesn't tend to work 'cause s**t's already ******** before we're there." But it was a shame, undead allies would've been awesome...

"Only 'cause we're the ones who decide it's ********>," she said quietly. Rather than push into Jack further, she leaned away and took his hand. Almost like schoolchildren, almost sheepish.
Looking back to the screen she said, "Ah s**t that's rough."
Quote:
Upon preparing to leave Dunharrow, Aragorn is confronted by Éowyn, who begs Aragorn not to go and that the men need him. She confirms her love to Aragorn, but, Aragorn, instead, tells Éowyn that he does not love her but still wishes her happiness.

"Or because said ghosts were already firing arrows and s**t." It was supposed to be a joke.
Aragorn's friendzoning would have normally been met with more commentary, but instead he just traced circles into Chel's hand with his thumb. General movie sense told him Eowyn was going to die because of it, but that also required no real comment either. Beer trickled into his mouth instead.

At one point Chel raised the joined hands to her mouth and placed her lips along his knuckles.
"Maybe that's what we should have done," she said, gesturing to the screen. A thought occurred to her. "You think I'd make a good ghost?"
Quote:
Finally, the companions enter the lair of the King of the Dead and find the legendary ghost army that dwells in the immense caves. Aragorn, unafraid, confronts them directly, saying that he can fulfill their oath, but the King of the Dead says none but the King of Gondor may command him. Aragorn the shows him Andúril, and as the King of the Dead attacks, Aragorn parries his strike. The King of the Dead snarls "That line was broken!"; in response, Aragorn seizes him, holds Anduril to the King's throat and replied that the blade (and the royal bloodline it represents) has been remade, and then pushes him back. Now with the ghost army's attention, Aragorn orders them as their master, to join him on the battlefield at Minas Tirith and there, once they have destroyed the enemy, he will fulfill them of their oath.

It was an intriguing concept to be sure. But Lord of the Rings operates on very different rules than they did. "Don't think they'd appreciate being forced to serve hunters to be free," he said. "Even if we're friendly ones."
At the question, Jack's brow wrinkled, and he gave her a sidelong look. "What do you mean?"

"You know, like floaty hair, see through skin- zombie husband," she said with a nudge and a grin-
(Because now there is no life, not even afterlife without him).
-"I think I could rock the look."

She barked a laugh not because she understood the joke (didn't they get stabbed by bad guys or something? What did poison have to do-) but because Jack's face was so serious. Always so serious.
"Well my family hates you so f'the shoe fits," she told him. A small kiss on his cheek for a reward. "I'm just sayin' I'd look good."
