A bit of traveling later, and the group neared the city. Zak slowed them, his egg still cradled in his arms, gaze aimed towards the city entrance. No more messages had arrived yet, which was honestly probably a good thing, for now. He wanted to get his pokemon trained up a bit more, then they could possibly go challenge the gym. Either way, he settled back down, letting his pokemon handle the training, and shifting his focus to the egg. Lidia had said that it had been found in or near water-- she wasn't sure which. That alone, really, was pretty much a guarantee of A ) him wanting it, and B ) her thinking to give it to him. He was curious what it would hatch into, though.... Hopefully nothing useless. Hopefully nothing he already had, either. He had an odd feeling that it likely wasn't, but... that could be his optimistic ego speaking. He would get the special eggs, after all....
Raising his gaze, he spotted Daeva leaping upon a little ice-type pokemon, smirking a bit as he reclined back, lifting his knees up to nest the egg between his stomach and thighs, his arms gently folded over it to keep it warm. Swirl took up a spot beside him, and he spared a glance in her direction. He supposed... he could use this opportunity to look into her moveset a bit, too, before he started calculating his strategy against the next gym (which he had already changed Meebus' form for)...

Pulling out his computer, Zak withdrew a blanket, too, carefully draping it over the egg to keep it warm, and make sure his computer didn't scrap against it, even though he was careful to balance it on his knees. He pulled up the Mistralton gym information, but immediately switched over to start looking through Swirl's possible movesets, too. Her evolution line actually had a rather fantastic moveset, he had to admit. Glancing at the little starter beside him, who gazed curiously at his pokemon as they trained, it was hard to imagine she'd become the hulking form that was Blastoise. Speaking of... Totodile still hadn't evolved.... But he'd address that later.
For now, he turned his attention back down to his screen, checking what she knew, what she would likely learn soon, and, most importantly, what he could easily teach her.

The first thing Zak noticed was that Swirl actually had a rather unique ability. It wasn't your typical Torrent, but rather Rain Dish. Given that, he might look into obtaining the Rain Dance TM for her. It didn't hurt to get a power boost and some health return at the same time. Aqua Ring might add to that, but... that would be half her moveset just for 1/8 HP gain. He wasn't entirely sure that would be worth it, especially not until she got much stronger. He noticed she could learn a decent fighting move, too, and noted that, but scrolled further and smirked as he found dynamic punch in there, too. That was good. He had enough pokemon with fighting moves for now, but if he switched things up, and set Sotnik and Totodile aside while he trained her and some of the others, that would likely be the move he'd rather she have. Confusion was a... delightful affliction to give the opponent.
What was more interesting, though, was that she could also learn a dragon move-- as well as a rock move (rollout), a steel move, and even a psychic move (zen headbutt). He smirked in amusement, raising eyebrow, and glancing over at the squirtle. "You know, Sverl..." he remarked, and the squirtle looked over, "You may eend up eencredibly useful..."

Swirl blinked, but Zak drew his attention back down as his wrist watch went off again. Another message-- from Apollo this time. With a lazy smirk, Zak shifted his laptop and set it down beside him, so that he could focus on the message without worrying over the egg nestled in his lap. 'With the body and name of a god, yes, I think you can keep it...' Zak thought, but he refrained from adding it to the text message. He didn't want to inflate the man's ego too much; he wasn't that generous, and it would make the crash to the reality of what a self-centered jerk Zak was, just a little too dangerous. He didn't want to lose his interest, but he couldn't play nice all the time, and whether Apollo could recover from that or not would determine any future interactions; and he did hope for future interactions, even when he stopped being overly flirty all the time.
But geez, where was this guy when he was in highschool? Zak tapped his fingers against his forearm again, smirking wryly. Those comments made him so much more tempting... But he wanted to play it cool. He couldn't give too much, that just wouldn't be fun. But he wasn't about to pull out completely yet, either.

Annnnnd that was that. Zak smirked as he got the information he needed from Cy. So surprisingly compliant.... He sent a quick text to him-- Got it-- and smirked at his good luck. So close by, too... He'd finish up his own gym battle, then, and head out to meet him. Hopefully his pokemon were in good enough shape to actually defeat the gym leader, that was. With Deys' defense, and Meebus' offense, he felt fairly confident, but... It was hard to say for sure. Especially since he wouldn't be able to stock up on as many healing items as he might have liked. He'd have to be sure to do that before he challenged the seventh gym, but given his recent acquisitions, the possible future ones, and the upcoming distraction... that would probably be a while.
With the message sent to Cyrus, he started up a response to Scarlett, finally.

First thing was first. Zak recalled his pokemon and headed for the pokecenter. He got them all healed up, then released his primary battlers. He wanted to do some item rearrangement, and once he'd given the icicle plate to Deys, he searched through his bag to see if he had anything particularly useful for Totodile to hold. There wasn't much... he highly doubed he would need the splash plate. Oh! But... That Dread Plate wouldn't be any harm to give him, just in case. He gave the little gator the plate, even though he didn't really plan to use him too much, and then recalled everyone.

Alright... time to put them to the test. Zak was fairly confident given his pokemon's massive type advantages, but there was some small, small doubt due to their lower levels. If they were ten levels higher he wouldn't have the slightest bit of hesitation, but he hadn't done quite as much training as he'd hoped to. That being said, he didn't want to miss out on the... interesting transaction, either, and strolled his way in deciding that getting this done was best. And if by some... terrible fluke, he managed to lose... Well, no one would need to know, and he would still carry on, and simply plan to over prepare next time.
Upon entering, Zak found himself faced with... a maze of canons. He stared. Stared for a long moment, then turned towards the attendee, lifted a hand, and pointed to the display before him. "No." The attendee blinked. "Uh... excuse me?""I said no," Zak reiterated flatly, careful not to let his accent blend in, "I'm not doing this. I'll let my pokemon deconstruct the canons before letting us get shot through them." Evidently, the severe frown of disapproval on his face was enough to convince the young man, and, with a nervous glance, he left to quickly try and find the gym leader.
Evidently, the maze wasn't completely necessary, which was good, because... Zak was serious in his threat. He'd let Daeva rampage before he took any part in that nonsense. And, although he was sure it... ruffled the gym leaders feathers a bit, he circumvented that process, and was soon able to begin the battle.

Skyla returned her very unfortunate Swanna, swallowing her devastation so that she could hand over the winnings to the victor. "G-good match! You've earned these." she told him, approaching with a badge, tm and an hm. She was a bit shaken from the battle, but she'd get over it the sooner she could heal her pokemon. Skyla left to heal up her team as soon as Zakhav received his stuff.

The grin on Zak's face was about 2/3rds the grin it would have been if this were anything other than a gym battle. Because if Skyla weren't a gym leader, his teeth would be flashing white in mocking victory and he wouldn't be holding back the jeers over her fried bird, nor the countless other sublime ways his pokemon had triumphed. It felt... so good to be great. He was going to have to go play basketball just to get the adrenaline out of his system, now. Maybe he could use that runway he'd seen? Sure it was supposed to be fore planes but it was pavement and worked. He doubted he could find a basketball hoop but he was sure he could find something. The egg was still safely nestled in his backpack and he was sure he could set it down and set-- well, maybe Deys to look after it, not so much Daeva. Or, hell, maybe Meebus... He still wasn't entirely sure about the Rotom, but what he did in that battle was the definition of 'pulling through'. He'd been ready to go down, to take that hit, and the paralysis he landed saved him.
Oh, victory was sweet.
Zak couldn't help letting his grin grow a bit more as Skyla approached to give him his winnings, but he couldn't trust himself to actually speak as he took them. He was 100% sure he wouldn't be able to keep the sneeringly superior tone from his voice even if he tried.

Zak frowned as, while handing his pokemon over to be healed once he reached the pokecenter, his communicator went off. Twice. He spared a glance at the watch, then made sure Nurse Joy had his pokemon, and stepped aside. Well damn... a message from Cyrus and Scarlett. He opened the latter, first. What was initially smirk turned into a frown as he continued reading her message. She had Fly? She could Fly...? Well damn... That meant she would travel pretty fast. And Cyrus was the one who decided the meeting place so he was probably either already there, or near. Damn it, that meant he was behind.
Whatever. No time for a basketball game, then. He put off replying to Scarlett's message and opened Cyrus', quirking an eyebrow with a slight frown at first. What in the... Oh. Virus. His smirk reappeared, and he tilted his head to the side. That dirty little porygon... He shook his head, shutting the communication system and turning his watch back off as his pokemon were ready. If those two were already heading to Nimbasa, then he needed to be on his way, too.

Zak tossed the pokeball with a lackadaisical grin on his face. Driftveil began falling back behind him as he headed towards Mistralton, his eye staying on the orb as it flew up, and down, up, and down. Finally, once he was a little ways out of the city, with Meebus and Sotnik on either side, just behind him, he came to a stop. He caught the ball and lifted it, tapping the butting with his middle finger, and letting it snap open to release the pokemon. Putting on a poker face, Zak arched an eyebrow at the bird, tilting his head as it shook itself. The fierce little pokemon lifted its gaze up, setting it immediately on Zak. That wasn't the trainer that caught him. HIs eyes narrowed. Was this... a trap? Regardless!!!
The pokemon quickly bowed its head and charged forward. Zak sneered, 'tsk'ing and stepping back. Sotnik frowned and moved to slither forward, but Zak held an arm out. He waited a beat, letting the bird rush, and just as it moved to leap off the ground, Zak stepped back, swung his body around, and then twisted, throwing his leg out hard to kick the pokemon from the side. The Rufflet gave a squawk of surprise, and hurtled off from the kick, hitting a tree and landing, painfully, on the ground.
Resting his foot back on the ground, Zak placed his hands in his pocket, coolly watching the pokemon as it recovered. Clearly struggling -- both to catch its breath after having it knocked clean from his lungs, and to get back up -- the Rufflet stumbled to its feet. It took a moment to get its balance, shook its head, and then set Zak with a fierce stare, this time circling as it approached. No longer running, it narrowed its eyes on Zak, and apparently this time, decided to let him make the first move.

Zak let the stare down go on a little longer before finally straightening up, rolling his shoulders back, and righting his head to give the pokemon a piercing stare. "I'm you're new trainer," he drawled, "Try to attack me like zat again, and not only vill I hurl you ento anuzzer tree, but I vill let my pokemon have a vhack at you as vell." The Rufflet settled into a stare, facing off with him but apparently listening. Zak lifted a finger, pointing it at him and lowering his head slightly. "However, cooperate, and I vill train you up to get much stronger." The pokemon perked up a bit, then leaned back, glancing off to the side.
It seemed to consider its options, ruffling its feathers and then setting Zak with another even stare. "... I'm takeng zat as an agreement," he muttered, then gestured to his shoulder. "Hop on." The Rufflet didn't seem to be the only one surprised by the offer-- Sotnik was staring with wide eyes as well. Was... was the thing even small enough for that? It seemed a tad puny for its species, maybe, but... it was still a pretty solid pokemon! He had heard the thunk it made when it hit that tree. Would Zak be able to...
... Yeah, that was a stupid concern. Of course he could hold that kind of weight, but still. It probably wasn't good for him. Maybe it was a false offer... or a temporary one? "Zakhav is likely trying to win the pokemon over," Meebus explained quietly, so that their trainer wouldn't hear. Sotnik looked to the rotom to see his usual emotionless gaze directed right back at him, and frowned. He shifted, then looked over as the Rufflet hopped over, eying Zak skeptically. Once close enough, it fluttered up and landed on his shoulder, still giving him a wary stare.
Zak smirked a bit at it's expression, but turned his attention away, releasing Deys from his pokeball. "Deys, firstly, new teammate," he introduced crisply, nodding towards the Rufflet, who adjusted himself not to get knocked by the motion, "Secondly, ve vill be goeng to Mistralton now, but go ahead and train on ze vay. You haven't done much battling lately." The Empoleon looked at them, more specifically, at the Rufflet, then turned to his trainer, and gave a single nod. He turned, waddling on up ahead into some grass, and, without the slightest hesitation from the new weight on his shoulder, Zak started off.

While Deys obliterated a few Tranquil nearby, Zak made his way along the path. He let Rufflet remain on his shoulder, the bird coolly watching while Meebus floated along just behind, and Sotnik slithered at his side. Zak, meanwhile, had turned his attention onto the next matter at hand; work. He had a few messages that he needed to go through, assignments he... really needed to get to work on, and things he needed to handle. Teh... How annoying. He would have to get on that once he actually got to Opelucid. Checking his map, he still had a ways to go. And checking his watch, it might take a while.
Frowning, he sent a message to Lidia. Maybe she could come get him, and cut the time down. That reminded him... Though it clearly couldn't fly him anywhere, he might as well teach that move to his Rufflet. He glanced at the pokemon, who met his gaze, but then turned back to his messages. He would teach it to him in a moment... he just needed to send another message to someone, first.
