His first attempt had an abysmal result. Bas skimmed the paper net through the water, dragging his first victim along with it until the fish managed to break the net itself. "This is rigged," he told the girl running the booth as he tossed the broken net aside and picked up a fresh one. The new net didn't last much longer, however. In fact, he was sure this one broke far more quickly than the last. Well, damn. Elliot wasn't going to get a fish at this rate.
On to his last try, Bas did not look optimistic. He was fully convinced that this booth sucked, but he was unwilling to just pass on his final opportunity to master the paper net and the art of fishing. Swishing the net through the water, he managed yet again to break the net, and with a disgruntled sigh Bas put the broken net to the side and stalked off to find a game with better odds!
Andrea sighed as her first net broke, and grabbed another one. Hearing Alec's apology, she looked over at him in confusion. "... You've done nothing to be sorry for." Dipping her net into the water, she gave a huff of laughter at his pun. "Sounds good to me!" Andrea looked at the girl she hadn't met and smiled.
"Hello, haven't seen you around before." If she was coming along too, might as well try and make friends, right?
Just then, her second net broke. These things were made to dissolve, if she didn't know any better... Actually, they probably were. Carnies. She stood. "Well, I'm done here for now."
Huh. Some chumps were over at the goldfish booth trying to win books--or, more likely, goldfish. Axel sidled up, rolling up his sleeves, his face set in a determined frown.
As long as they were still giving out books, he was ready to scoop some fishies.
He took his paper scoop and watched the fish for a while. It was important to select your target carefully. He spotted another fat, dumb looking fish and swooped in for the kill scoop.
Success.
"I managed to scoop another one," Axel told the booth-girl, grinning.
"Yea..these are paper after all." he looked at the net he'd recently broken unamused.
He glanced at Andrea as she told him he didn't need to be sorry. If nothing else she was straight forward.

Lenore quirked an eyebrow as the one who had won yesterday just came up and nabbed another fish. "So you did. The manager would probably be upset that his scam isn't working as well as he'd like. I mean, 'he'd probably congratulate you.' Is what he'd probably want me to say, so if you see him, tell him I said that. Or don't. It doesn't really matter." She shrugged as she retrieved another voucher and handed it to the man. "You can try twice more, if you like."
After (perhaps foolishly) turning down the offer of a second try the previous day, Axel was feeling pretty confident as he strolled up to the goldfish scooping booth. He left the last fish he caught in the pool and was hoping it would be just as easy to catch today.
It was still there, the laziest of the goldfish, looking around with its bubble eyes.
He took the paper net and aimed for the fish, but when he moved in for the scoop the fish turned on the jets and neatly evaded him.
Damn.

He glared at the fish. Floating there. Taunting him. Swishing its little fishy tail. He waved the scoop around in the air for a minute to dry it off before returning for a second attempt.
Okay, second try. Axel was a little speedier this time. The fish made its move, darting away, but the scoop followed. Unfortunately the goldfish darted right into the middle of another group of fish, which scattered in all directions. In the confusion, Axel missed entirely.
The lazy goldfish looked a bit tired after its antics escaping the net, so Axel went after it for his allotted third try. Unfortunately, he made the CRITICAL MISTAKE of not waving the net around to dry it first. The goldfish hardly even bothered to wriggle this time, and Axel thought he had it securely in the scoop, but as soon as he tried to lift it and retrieve the fish, the paper net tore.
Damn.
It was a disappointment, but at least he already had the two book vouchers. Two! He had never before bought two brand new books at the same time. It would be exciting. He shrugged at the booth-girl, awkwardly handing over the net, unsure if he should toss it or if she wanted it back. "Well, I tried. Good luck to everyone else."
Popping his head into the little local bookshop, Alec glanced around, noticing there had been a boy who was doing his fishing and had been one only two people to actually catch one of those stupid goldfish bastards.
Giving a little way to Axel, Alec grabbed up a net that hopefully would be of use.
Nope, he was just a bit off. As he tried to lift the net it broke, causing him to shoot the net a dirty look.
After the first bust, he went for his next attempt lowering the net in the water. He was absent minded this morning, and didnt really try to wait till the net dried instead he went fishing again.
Over the top, he ended up splashing himself and anyone within range. Too much effort! He eyed the soggy net, his second try having gone worse than his initial attempt.
His third and final try, and after 3 days of fishing with little success he didn't exactly expect anything. At this point he was just trying because it meant bumping into some of the new people he'd met, or a random encounter with a new face. While some were more friend like then other thus far, Alec had at least taken away with him a few laughs over the last few days of the festival.
Making his last attempt at wrangling the little goldfish he bid farewell to Axel as he wished everyone good luck. "I still don't know how you did it.." He gave the other boy a sort of dismayed expression admiring the others skill no matter how much luck was involved..and trusting the little fish to not be well..fish.
Woopse speaking of fish as he tried to scoop it it frantically flailed away darting off to another part of the tank. Laughing at hi misfortune Alec sighed, he just wasn't made to fish apparently.
Time had flown by and before Nik had even realized it the crowd was beginning to thin as people returned to their homes. He too would soon have to return to the inn that he was staying at, but the festival had become more enjoyable as the day went on. Stopping at one last booth before day gave way to night he read the rules.
"Fish?" He murmured simply, directing a polite nod toward the girl absorbed in her book. Picking up one of the scoops he hovered it over one of the bug-eyed buggers and went for it. This all forward tactic did not end well as the fish slipped past him by at least a mile. Sighing he squared up to try once more.
Resolving to at least use up his number of attempts Nik once more grasped the scoop in his hand and locked on to a fish. His hand remained steady as he followed it's swimming pattern for a moment before hurriedly thrusting the scoop into the water in an attempt to catch it.
Though he drew very close to succeeding this time, the momentum from the force he used to send the net into the water pulled the fish into the net and then promptly spat it back out. Gritting his teeth he eyed that same fish, intent on making his next attempt one that would get him into the winner's circle.
