Somewhere in the direction of Halloween Town there was a distant and totally mysterious screeching sound that was something like someone discovering that a homunculus foxfire had chewed up their best pinstriped vest and then spat it back out again.

Jove's tail gave a friendly wag, for a moment he hadn't been sure what Mathias was about to do! The tensing must have been an automatic reaction. The wolpertinger always had to stay on guard, Jove certainly wouldn't be brave enough to attend a dance if their positions were swapped, so he could forgive a little bristling. He really had to figure out a way to help his friend! The pup paused in his foxfire-petting activities when Mathias grabbed his wrist. That was silly, of course he was going to touch it. Hommy was very cute and adorable, despite being able to chew through a pressed rawhide bone in six seconds flat. When Matty backed off, Jove went and picked up the foxfire as though it were entirely harmless. Which it was. Really. As Mathias continued, a little frown appeared on Jove's face. His brow furrowed slightly. Ren had said something like that? This was the first time his brother had approached any of his friends (that he knew of) and imposed such a ridiculous restriction. He knew the gryphon was protective and cared for him deeply, but did he not trust Jove to make up his own mind about his friends? The pup was about to take a step closer to better hear Matty's whispers above the noise of the music and crowds, but then looked at the happy black shadow in his arms with it's little tendrils writhing and eyes blinking and teeth gnashing, and decided it would be wise to set little Hommy down first. There was a moment where his friend seemed wracked with indecision, and then suddenly he found himself faced with a question he had never expected to hear. Jove stared for a minute. Then ever so slowly, his head tilted one way. Wait, weren't boilfriends the male half of that frightening 'romance' concept? His head slowly tilted the other way. Could such a thing even exist, that he could be... a boil's... boilfriend? The head tilt reversed itself again. Maybe the inflection was all wrong. What if Matty just meant boil friend, as in two words? But somehow that felt wrong. Instead of giving a yes or no answer, the little ghost just stared back, looking lost and very, very confused. He was in way over his head on this one!

If Xavier had been smarter, he might have been weirded out by the fact that there was now a small fluffy ghoul cuddled up against his back, seeping up his warmth. As it was, he was just really confused, especially since he did not really find himself particularly warm socially.
"I, erm," said Xavier, slightly taken aback, because when was the last time anyone had said anything positive to him before? He couldn't recall ever having anyone tell him that talking and breathing and walking were good enough on their own.
"Um," he said again, floundering for words. "Um. Well, yes I can...I can read, and I can...write...uhm, not very well, I s-suppose, though."

Zaire had been hanging out for awhile at the event, stag and admiring the decor lazily as he passed through each section there was to see. Having stumbled upon the Scarentines festival by pure mistake on his way into Halloween Town the boil marveled at all the students that had apparently planned to go to with dates and it all made him feel a little out of the loop. The event was curious but he wasn't planning to stay long, considering he didn't celebrate the 'holiday', as it wasn't something his clan took part in.
There was so much pink, so many anatomically incorrect heats it was all making him a little sick, mostly because coupled with the blaring music, the overly bright decorations were giving him a headache. Though he would admit that even with as loud as the music was, it was alright. Exiting the beach area on the call for food, since it was one he learned not to ignore, Zaire made his way towards the food. Making his way out of the gym, he bypassed the picnic areas in favor of gravitating to the actual tables of food.
Upon his approach he had noticed several people by the table but being on a mission he didn't bother to converse. Instead as he came to a pause the boil started to browse the food choices. Spleens in blankets, scream cheese and rat tail? It all looked pretty tasty, so he settled on taking a few of them all. Tail swaying lazily behind him, Zaire picked up and popped five of the smaller finger food items. Cheeks full he turned to glance to the band, chewing eagerly and swallowing before you would think one could really savor the taste. Even after the handful of snacks his stomach growled out loudly for more, obliging it he turned back to pick up one of the larger dessert items. Around the time he shoved it into his mouth is when a voice broke over the music to greet his ears.
Squinting at the lighting towards the ghoul he paused chewing briefly before continuing, taking his time this round and letting the crunching noises of his food drown out most sound. Swallowing finally he offered a simple smile to the ghoul, already forgetting her name but remembering her face from the new years event. "Mm..hi?" The greeting was offered along with a lazy blink and a holding out of a snack, Zaire had only heard part of her words and of what he got he decided not to reply back to. He was in a semi-good mood after all which meant the need to snark back was low. . "Want some?" Glowing blue orbs stared at the ghoul questioningly before turning back to glance around the area, "what are you doing,..." There was a pause as he waited for an insert of her name before continuing, sounding both curious and bored though he held no facial expression, ",any plans?"
It wouldn't hurt him to stick around he figured to himself, though it all depended on her plans. He wasn't going to wander around alone anymore, but if she knew of something exciting to do he would be up for following her around for a little while at least. Waiting for her reply the boil started to sway lazily to the music in the background, his tongue pressing against his teeth inside his mouth to get a piece of food unstuck.
---------------------------------- Scarentine's was for couples. Scarentine's was for couples..Scarentine's was for couples! The thought kept repeating in her head as she stared at her phone. Even if she knew it wasn't a romantic invite, it was still going to be seen as such by others right? Blushing she read over the message again, wondering if Neith was trying to joke by the wording, but really unable to tell.
Lute didn't know what to think anymore, at first she had agreed to tell Neithan about the festival but as they talked she somehow managed to rope herself into going. But that was the problem when saying no just wouldn't happen. On a soft sigh the ghoul flopped on her side on her bed, debating sending a message back that said she was sick and couldn't make it.
It was the guilt however that was getting to her, she couldn't lie to Neithan. He was a nice if intimidating boil, and he hadn't done anything to her really. Well. Aside from causing this inner turmoil and trying to pull her out of comfort zone areas. After at least a good while Lute sent a reply back to the boil, one that took nearly everything she had to get out. Text to Neith Wrote Ah ha.. I will be there. :-3 Though it wasn't anything amazing, as soon as she sent it she felt queasy. Could she really handle this? Lute winced and started to pull on her long-sleeved shirt, the one with the extra long arms that covered her entire hand. It was a comfort shirt, one that made her feel like she could hide away in it if need be. Putting a bright red heart-shaped bow into long pink locks was the final touch before she was out her dorm door.
Entering the gym a sigh of relief was given, her heart pounding almost in time to the loud music. Barely keeping back a wrinkle of nose for the noise the little Satyr made her way towards the pool. Getting lost on the way, or rather pinned to the wall in the pool area by other rushing bodies Lute huddled close to the wall unable to see over the crowd to find Neith given her height. On a panicked pant she sent off another message to Neith, a miserable sort of face being made while she did. Second Text to Neith Wrote I..found the pool but I..well there are a lot of people and I'm stuck by the wall. ---------------------------------- When a vibration hit his leg Spinar paused the dance he had taken up with a random creature. Cutting away from the music the frost demon smirked widely at the message he had received. It was Rosy, lo and behold but he had been expecting as much since they had talked about coming. Of course before he had teased about not coming but given there was nothing better to do, well he was here and enjoying himself as per-normal. Sending a quick text back he headed towards the pool area.Text to Rosy I'm here, was just looking for you... ;- P Be there soon..~ Not long after his text he entered the gym, pausing by the entrance to peer around for Rosy. Spotting her by the water he strutted over, pocketing his phone after taking a quick picture of the ghoul. "Hey you~" The call to the ghoul was given as he got closer, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as he admired her outfit choice.

"See! You can do those things too, yaaaaaay you~" She keened out, lightly pinching the tips of some larger feathers, swaying them a bit as though making them dance. "We're in school to get better though, right?" Though she paused and stared as one same loose in her hand, enough for her to hold it up on it's own. "Ummmmwhoops..." She coughed immediately and tossed the feather aside as if nothing happened, settling for whistling innocently. A few of the other feathers she tried putting back, or tucking them under others, and once she even tried tying a feather to another one with a strand of her own hair, but nothing helped. At least she tried.
"SO UHH---Can you eat? I'm really good at eating." He probably felt the way her stomach had been growling this whole time, considering she was practically leaning right on him. "We should eat. I don't think your feathers wanna go back in."

"Your memory is conveniently selective. Because I said no." Amrita grumped, slouching unhappily right up until the Igor took both of their attentions.
"Oh, good, you know each other! I bet you've got lots to catch up on, you know, school and stuff. Hey - I heard Hel graduated, isn't that just great? You two should talk about it!" She practically twirled around behind Christof and tried pushing the massive Igor closer to the Reaper, though she knew full well he didn't talk.
"I'll leave you both to it, then!" Then she took off like a shot to go and find any one of her team mates, leaving the pair of them quite alone.

Well that wasn’t suspicious at all. Hel knew something was up, and it was made apparent as Amrita skirted around the igor and then pushed him at her. The reaper was quick to side step, and was not interested in talking with him either. She had a goal to accomplish after all. Though she did say this. “Amrita is my date, and if you want to challenge me, I will fight you for her!” Unfortunately for the ghoul, Hel was quick to follow after passing off that warning to Christof. “Oh, Amrita.” Hel called oh so sweetly after her. “Running away, are we? That is not very nice thing you did…it shot me through the heart…” She paused. “ Again.”

Rosy turns red eyes towards the direction she heard Spinar, her lips pulling into a smile as she floats enough so she can stand once more. Filling the space between them, she wraps her arms around his neck as she gives him a quick kiss "Hey, for a moment I thought I was gonna have to come find you?" she teases as she pulls away slowly, only to place her hands carefully on his chest.
"I'm glad we talked about coming, this is actually far more wicked then I thought it would be." she glance around for a moment, before she turns her attention back towards him. It was funny, this being the event they attended when they joined the school, and now it was the same event now that they were knobs.
"So did you just want to sit by the water, or did you want to go dance?" she was down for anything at the moment, except the obstacle course. She wanted to stay nice for him this time. Course it also could be because she had plans, maybe after the dance.
If everything went well...

Xavier frowned a little, his brain working to comprehend this new and completely strange phenomenon of actually being complimented about something. He was so wrapped up in all of his inner musings that he (fortunately) entirely missed Helmut's little feather gesture, and it wasn't unil he heard her talking again that he realized he should probably pay attention.
"Oh!" he said, flustered, his face pink. "Erm. Yes. Food. I, erm, I eat. I haven't eaten anything yet today, I don't think, erm..."
A pause, and then, a little shyly, "Do you, erm...want to go see...what there is to eat?"

There were few things Mathias ever said that he regretted and wished he could take back right away, but this was most definitely one of those things. The way Jove stared at him, tilting his head from side to side, it was quite obvious quite quickly that he really had no idea what the wolpertinger was talking about. For some reason, while that should have given him relief, instead he felt something like a hallow and empty pit open up inside of his stomach, and it seemed as though his heart was destined to plummet straight from his chest into it. To Jove, he was probably quite the sight, breath suddenly hitching in a chest gone far too tight, eyes wide, face flushed with pink undertones that were only growing darker by the second, his ears, still frosted white from the cold weather of Christmas time, visibly blushing with red as well. And the worst part of it all was that while he should have been speaking, should have been explaining to Jove that he was wrong to have asked such a silly question, to just forget about it, he found that he couldn't really speak at all, his throat feeling like it had closed off and his mouth much too dry for words. So instead, he took another step back. It was a horrible situation he had backed himself into, and it was fight or flight time, and as his fighting instincts seemed to be broken for the moment, the only other thing he could think to do was to add more distance between himself and what was now the problem, though in doing so he finally felt his throat and tongue loosen once more. "Vas...vas most stupid question. Am sorry, Jove. I am apologizing so much. Is not familiar to me this..scarentines day, or the...the..." He had taken another step back, but reached out to grab a hold of the side of the petting zoo, stopping himself while he swallowed. "Feinheiten. And am being confused by everything. But your brother, he vas making it seem like ve might be more then just friends. So I vondered. I vondered if maybe...ve vere....something"

Returning the quick kiss he lets his arms go up to pat at the ones around his neck. "Luckily I wasn't lost." He teases back, eyes admiring the view of Rosy now that she was up close. Such a pretty ghoul, he had been lucky to make a contract with her when he had and he knew it, admitting it was another thing. Listening to the ghoul he chuckled and patted her hands that now rested on his chest.
"It's a real scream so far, but I'm banking on more excitement..." Spinar tried his best to suppress memories of their first Scarentines for various reasons, but it kept coming back. Shifting at the question of what the do he takes his ghouls hand and glances around. What was there to do? Remembering the announcement of the obstacle course, a slow grin spread his lips. "Let's go find one of the picnic tables by the obstacle course, we can watch the participants and boo at them." Chuckling he starts to pull Rosy by the hand.

Christof blinked, not quite sure what just happened nor what to make of it, but when both ghouls went running, Hel's challenge finally sank in. The hunchback's look of confusion suddenly hardened. Challenge accepted. He limped after them as quickly as he could manage. He was not opposed to throwing chairs if that's what it would take.

The rate at which he could devour food was... almost alarming. Watching for a moment, the dragon was confounded, taking his silence in turn as he finished chewing the most recent addition to his mouth. Did he even... taste it? The simple greeting was met by a small laugh and disbelieving smile. "Hello," she chuckled, pausing to perk and peek at the snack he offered. It seemed their less than civil meeting on New Year's was forgiven. "Thank you." She took the pom puff and popped it into her mouth. It was that time when he began asking her questions, brow raised as she listened and finished her bite.
Obvious pause was obvious. Least she smiled. "Agsilved." It wasn't offensive. Lots of people, been a while since they'd met as it was. Though she could recognize him from around the dorm now, it wasn't as if she'd taken the time to re-approach him since. Though, if this second meeting went better than the first... it would be nice to be better acquainted to someone in the dorms. In the present, she shook her head lightly, wings tucking further to her back and arms crossing comfortably at her front. There'd been no push to dress up that night. A simple tunic belted with chains at her hips, nearly a dress in and of itself with it's length on her, and simple dark leggings. Silver and gems glinted off her at various points, but for her it was still subdued. No one to impress, she'd gone for comfort. No regrets. "Enjoy the food, enjoy the band..." She glanced towards the obstacle course wistfully. "Debating if it would be entertaining to participate."
Looking back to the reptilian boil, she cocked her head. "What of you? Anything in particular bring you out?" She'd be nice and not glance at the food. Surely there was more to the glowing-eyed boil than his empty void of a stomach. Now seemed a fine time to learn.
---------------------------------- Lute was going to have to do a lot of explaining. Assuming the lass could keep herself from fainting with all the blushing she seemed to do. The balrog could put two-and-two together as he watched couples move about, but didn't they usually do that anyways? What was with the not-hearts-hearts? Even if some of the lighter colors made him think of the tiny ghoul's hair, that was the only reference he could personally place. How relevant it was however...
His phone buzzed, and he glanced down. Nodding to himself--the frown lightened a tad, but didn't fully vanish--he hung back, arms crossed and grumbling around in his skull while trying to better grasp the festivities. Was it really just to celebrate couples? Point of that being..? He did realize he was perhaps not the best judge, but hey...
The second buzz made him simmer down, glancing at the screen... and frowning even further. Tucking the device away in a pouch at his hip, his height came into use. Peering over heads and bodies, he more had to worry about missing the ghoul due to her own stature. Saying she was by the wall at least helped narrow things down.... somewhat. Assuming he was heading towards the right wall, his eyes following it from the door to the gym as he drew closer. His guess wasn't far fetched. Shoving past other bodies wasn't entirely necessary... for the most part. He might have growled a few times, cast a few glares now and then--or he could have just been glancing at them far as he was concerned, his expression didn't exactly look inviting--but as he located the Satyr he gave an amused snort, drawing into a respectful distance from her. "Need assistance then, lass?" One of his wings flexed, moving to almost act as a barrier between her and some of the crowd. Not that he wanted to cage her in, either.
Glancing from her, his eyes went back to scanning the decorations. He'd only done it a few dozen times at that point. "Your holidays... still make little sense tae me. I'm beginning tae think they are named simply for the revelry." Looking back to her, his arms crossed loosely at his chest. There was a game near them. Some sort of... meter? He wasn't sure what the signs said from there. He nodded towards it. "Up for a game? Or'd you rather food?" Neithan wasn't a jerk. He'd asked if she was still going. Least he could do was make sure she at least had fun instead of staying stuck in her dorm. Even if he didn't understand the circumstances of the celebrations.

"Food!" Helmut cheered, throwing up her arms to release the confetti of black feathers. "Yes, let's go food!" Foodfoodfood! It was the only thing to make her leave the warmth of his back with any sort of enthusiasm, and when she twirled to face him again she wasted no time in stooping to grab his hand and his wrist.
"Food!" She insisted loudly, trying to pull him to his feet with every ounce of strength in her tiny body. Then she put all her efforts into sniffing out where the food was so she could drag him to it if she had to.

Running didn't work and so Amrita stopped and slouched, everything about her body language absolutely screaming how unhappy she was. She wheeled on the Reaper, her gaze flickering from her to the Igor that was coming up fast.
"Hel, stop. I'm sorry I hurt you, I really am, and I'll explain when I can, but...I don't want a date, and I don't want to be guilt tripped into it, either. I'll dance with you when I can and I will hang out with you, but that's it. Please, please, just let it go."
