Idris of Silver Singhath // Burn Post

For all that their numbers had recently been bolstered by freshly-tapped weyrlings, and for all that their wingleader was grounded due to her injuries, Dauntless Wing was in fine form overall.

They do their crimson leader proud, Idris remarked mentally to Singhath, as the silver wheeled and moved with the rest. Massive ponderous beast that he was, the quick-darting greens and blacks around him almost made him look like he was flying in slow motion. But then he would tilt a wing and move just so, and suddenly he'd be lined up perfectly to let loose a great infernal burst upon a tangle of Thread.

Fall's not over yet. Don't jinx us. Singhath cast a red-tinged glance back in her direction before setting back to work, moving smoothly as his wings caught the thermal updraft off a lower dragon's fire.

J'nes and brown Hatteth - burn post
HP: 38/53
Agility: +1
Thread: 19/171

J'nes looked up from handing Hatteth a chunk of firestone and scanned the sky. Is it just me, or is the Thread thinning out again? he asked his dragon.

Hatteth flamed another swath of thread and spared a moment to look around. The fall does look lighter. he agreed. Perhaps this wave will end soon.

Just as well. We could use more firestone, J'nes responded, feeling the few lumps at the bottom of his sack.

Wen and Rynsemth burn post
Hp 47

"Ready?" Wen muttered as Rynsemth chewed stone, the black eyes focus on the threadfall and nodded, swallowing the firestone down.

"Then here we go." Wen muttered, nodding at the one to provide them with the stone and they were up and targeting a flutter of thread fall. "There."

Rynsemth replied, calm as he sent out a burst of flame.

J'nes and brown Hatteth - damage post
HP: 29/53
Agility: +1
Damage: 10-1 = 9

A thinning wave hardly meant it was over. A couple strands slipped right over Hatteth's flame and straight at J'nes. Feeling his rider's sudden alarm, Hatteth tried to tuck his wings in and dive away, but only managed to get the leading edge of his left wing tangled in the Thread at the same time it his J'nes. Bellowing, Hatteth shifted between before J'nes registered anything more than searing pain.

As soon as they were back in the sky, J'nes surveyed the damage. First on Hatteth, as was habit, and ignoring his own pain for a moment. Only a few scores marred the brown hide, mainly on the sturdier arm of the wing. Not a bad score, all things considered. Then he turned to his own hurts.

The Thread had caught his left leg and eating right through the riding leathers from knee to hip. Nasty red welts were visible, and the rushing air over the exposed wound made them sting terribly.

Mine? Should we land? Hatteth asked, mindvoice laced with concern.

Oh sure, you'll pull out for my injuries but won't consider it for your own, he replied with grim good humor. The offer was very tempting, but he couldn't do any less than his dragon. Let's wait just a moment. If the fall is done, we won't be needed anyway.

And if it's not? Hatteth retorted immediately. J'nes had no answer for him.

S’dekai and Pioth // Burn Post

Understood, Wingleader. Even if he was not their Wingleader, the bronzepair had earned the title, and they would be addressed by it.

And then a Dauntless blue was addressing them - one that S'dekai recognized! It was the rider who'd taken him out of the pits of Benden and back to safety. Consider it a parting gesture of goodwill, Pioth addressed Malcarreth, inclining his head slightly towards the small blue. Trine has sheltered us and permitted us safe passage when you had no obligation to do so – and Thread is everyone’s enemy.

Turning his head, he unleashed another gout of flame.

S’dekai and Pioth // Damage Post

As if to prove the bronze's point, Thread was taking its toll on the pair of them - and on many other dragons in the air, it looked like. A silver filament tangled around Pioth's foreleg, and the bronze bugled before blinking between and back once again.

We're going to have to work on your dodging, Pioth, S'dekai remarked grimly.

Malcarreth
HP: 34/41
Agility: +5
-----------------------

No more mistakes, it was to be a hard fall if the starcrafters were right and neither of them felt like taking a chance on them being wrong. Malcarreth burned away a small knot of Thread and wove around another coming for him before destroying that too. Surely there had to be another respite soon? He felt as though they had been flying forever, even in their many drills he had never flow so hard! They had been told that drills didn't prepare you for the real thing but they still hadn't been ready for how hard Malcarreth was having to work to keep them safe.

Lanakirene and Black Viath - burn post
HP: 32
Agility: +2
-----

Viath was tiring now. But La could see the end in sight. Things seemed to be winding down, not much Thread left, nothing was getting past the bronzes and silvers (thank Faranth there were still enough large dragons to cover the higher altitudes), and it was getting easier. Viath's wings trembled slightly, and La leaned in the straps, preparing for the command to send him down. Even if another wave was incoming, she knew her little black simply wouldn't be able to handle it.

Viath rumbled as he flamed one of the last clumps of Thread, tail lashing as he cast around. I think this'd be as good a time as any to think about touching down, he confided to his rider.

La patted his neck. I hear you.

Lanakirene and Black Viath - damage post
HP: 27
Agility: +2
-----

The searing pain in Viath's hindquarters took both of them by surprise, and the black dragon blinked between instantly, returning to nearly the place he had been a moment later and circling anxiously, trying to get a look at his rump. Twisting in the straps, La looked back. Scored, but not too deeply. Nothing that wouldn't heal.

About that heading down thing...

Right with you, Vee.

NPC - Wingsecond Vorith K'tar
Huge/slim.
HP: 30/56
Agility: -5
----------------

The break in the Threadfall this time was almost imperceptible; there were perhaps a few heartbeats of clear sky before the curtain of silver returned. K'tar cursed and tossed more firestone for huge sleek Vorith; his dragon had already taken many wounds today but they were not prepared to back down. Today they flew as wingleaders, their chance to truly show their worth rather than just flying as seconds.

Vorith cried to his followers. If the starsmiths were right. If they were wrong His would have their heads.

Damage: 7 + 5 = 12
HP: 18/56

They hardly even paid attention to the Thread blowing towards them as they seared away a great swathe of it. They had been seared before, would be seared again, and what was the difference? A few scars, grounded for a short while but soon in the sky again. They were strong and would do their duty come what may. The Thread bit deep, they burned more of it down, and then jumped between to free themselves of it.

Malcarreth
HP: 34/41
Agility: +5
---------------

C'tis sneered to Malcarreth.

C'tis jaw tightened and his stomach knotted as he felt the full force of his dragon's weariness and pain. Leaning flat over his dragon's neck he pressed his brow against the warm smooth hide for a moment.

And try he did; the blue's fire seared a great swathe of Thread from the sky, but another was coming for him and he was too slow to draw in another breathe to burn that away too. They would show them, they had to.

Malcarreth
Damage: 5 - 5 = 0!
HP: 34/41
-------------------

He might not have had the breathe to flame but Malcarreth still had the energy to move. Tucking his wings back he dropped into a near vertical stoop that left C'tis reeling, unable to do any more than cling on for dear life. Another jerk of g-force nearly knocked him out, and before he knew it they were back in formation, completely unscathed.

replied the exhausted blue. He was just about spent.
