Rissa

The perturbed look on the other boys face after Rissa winked at him was enough to make the girl frown wondering what on Pern had gotten into the boy. I mean really she was just being friendly? Wait? Did he think she was flirting with him? The thought alone was humorous enough that Rissa had to lift hand to cover her mouth her laughter coming out more and guffles and coughs then true laughter as she shook her head.

While Zofer clearly thought he was hot stuff he simply wasn't handsome enough in Rissa's opinion to suit her. The boy looked more like a doll then a real man for goodness sake! Shaking her head hoping to ward off her amusement her once grin turned into a stark frown as she caught a snippet of one of the other girls words.

"You are not honestly trying to encourage two hatchlings to fight are you?" She asked her tone a bit more staunch and gruff then she at first intended, but the very idea of anyone encouraging hatchling to hurt one another left her in shock. "What if they went between! Shards girl! Lucky thing the bronze stepped in." Rissa added turning as she watched the blue stalk off and select his rider from among the boys. Leaving just the two browns and the bronze on the sands unmatched.

Mei

The short woman cut her eyes at the very large and intimidating woman. "Fight? No. Sort it out? Sure." her chin raised as her dark eyes stared unapologetically up at the woman before looking away in clear dismissal. "See? They sorted it out, with a little help." Obviously Mei had had the utmost confidence in the young dragons to not come to blows.

Her annoyance from the statement was perhaps a touch too obvious, arms tightly wrapped in front of her chest defensively as she refused to make eye contact with the woman who'd thought it keen to be judgmental. Normally, she'd give the woman a verbal what-for, but now was not the time or place. Instead she let her interest fall toward the remaining eggs and the stout Badger brown, curious as to what he'd do now that the altercation was over with.

Hennory

Ah, ever the diplomat, that one. Hennory smiled when the bronze took it upon himself to stop his brother's squabbling, spurring the blue on to make his choice. Hennory's hopes had not gotten too high; the blue hadn't had eyes for him at all. He shifted from foot to foot, trying to alleviate some of the burn.

The brown though, that was a funny one, wandering off with little intent to continue the fight. There were a lot of different personalities showing on these sands, from the sweet and playful greens to the more rough and tumble males. He found it difficult to think that sweet females and tough males were the status quo, though.. Then again, all dragons were tough where it counted, and that was against thread.

Rissa

Letting out a derisive snort Rissa shook her head staring down with an arched brow at the rather rude smaller woman. Thought she could dismiss her could she? Another hoity toity b***h it would seem. Still she wasn't about to let it bother her. If they girl wanted to get herself into trouble then let her. "Maybe watch your wording next time lest they mistake 'sorting it out' for clawing each others faces off." Rissa replied shrugging her shoulders as she turned back to the eggs ignoring the smaller girl.

She clearly wasn't worth her time or the upset anyway. If the lass wanted to act catty then she could act catty all she liked it certainly wasn't going to spoil Rissa's day. Sides the dainty girl was probably just another gold candidate out searching for a shiny shell most likely because of course everyone wanted some small dainty pretty little goldrider. No self respecting bronzerider seemed to ever search or look for a girl like her who was considered a freak for her size. A fact Rissa was a touch bitter about, but still. Today was a hatching and a time of joy.

Lysandor

Lysandor noted how the large bronze took charge of the situation that was happening between the honey badger hatchling and the mamba. Neither of its siblings thought it worth quarrelling with the elephant dragonet overseeing things and the boy was even more surprised to see the bronze actually instruct the blue to go to the candidates. Watching as the blue moved through the male candidates as silent as a whisper before stopping before a boy he recognized but didn't know.

Part of Ly was happy to see that the mamba hatchling had found someone to impress, but his attention was soon drawn back to the honey badger dragonet, wondering if the strong brown was looking over the candidates before making its way over. The bronze had yet to decide either though Lysandor was less worried about that one he found it interesting how he dragons seemed to be really careful about their choices this hatching.

He could feel the heat of the sands on his exposed ankles and was reminded of the fact his robes were to short for his height, strong arms fidgeted at his side, wishing he had his hammer from the forge with him. A familiar weight in his hand would be a comfort about now.

Evzen

Grey eyes had carefully tracked the hissy blue across the sands through the little standoff and eventually to Evzen's feet. The young boy stared down at the dragonet, unsure of what to do until there was a soft voice in his mind followed by a meeting of spirits. Through the bond Evzen could feel the constant nagging worry of Aspith's that served only to increase his own concerns despite feeling secure for the first time in ages. There was the two of them now, that was four eyes to watch for trouble.

Yes, but I am too hungry to watch anymore
Aspith followed his rider towards the food table, picking through the boy's mind as he trotted along beside him. He swung his neck to the side and snarled at Alara and Lypith I see your greed greenrider I will not let you have everything, do not even try to hoard all the best meat. He needed good food so that he could return to his watching and that could not happen if she was trying to feed it all to Lypith.

Mei

If the two girls actually knew what the other were thinking, they'd probably both be able to laugh about it, because Mei was assuming the same thing about Rissa. Snooty, high and mighty, thinking she can talk any way she wanted to people because she had some sort of Moral Highground… A woman standing in for the gold for sure.

Perhaps one of those days it might be a comment shared between the two. For now though, they were no doubt completely ignorant to the other's thoughts.

Ameleia turned when she saw movement, watching with wide eyes as the large bronze moved over toward where the two brothers were facing off and placed himself between the two of them. Well now, he seemed to be the take charge sort already, didn't he? That seemed to fit with him being a Bronze, making her wonder about who it was that was going to end up with him and if would be as take charge as the Bronze was. It seemed that the appearance of the Bronze was exactly what was needed as the two of them ended their stand off, the Brown turning to wander off. From there the Bronze gave his Blue brother a look, nodded toward the Candidates and much to her surprise the Blue obeyed, "Wow..." That was even more impressive then just getting them to stop.

A moment later they hissy Blue had found his partner and the two were heading off to get food for the hatchling, She gave a smile before she turned back to watching the eggs once more, once more trying to guess which of them would hatch next now that only the two brothers, a Brown and a Bronze, stood on the sands. Who was next then... maybe more of those she'd met with? That would be neat.

Ashlyn

Ashlyn looked worried when she saw the two dragons facing off, holding her breath as she hoped nothing bad would happen. She privately urged them to stop and it seemed she was not the only one, as she saw the bronze step in and deal with the situation. She smiled softly, glad to see a voice of reason and watch the stand-off end and she let out a sigh of relief. She watched the bronze dragon instruct his brother to the candidates and watched as the blue picked one of the boys. She was happy another dragon was matched up with a rider, one she had actually had been worried wouldn't find their's. She heard some words exchanged near her and turned in that direction, seeing two of the girls getting into a bit of an argument themselves.

"Come on, girls, let's not fight amongst ourselves and concentrate on the baby dragons,"Ashlyn suggested gently. Then her own eyes focused on the dragons, wanting to see who would emerge out of their eggs next or would impress.

Emora

Emora paused glancing over at Ashlyn with a look that clearly asked if the girl was a dimwit or not. "Shh! Don't get them started again!" She hissed in a low whisper. Couldn't the girl just stay out of everyone elses business? For goodness sake Emora certainly had the common sense to do so and the matter was clearly already handled. Did she really feel the need to go sticking her nose into it further.

Shaking her head she turned back to the eggs. Maybe it'd be best if the girl took her own advice and paid as much attention to the shells as she was her fellow candidates.

Mei
(Addressing female candidates)

Okay, this was all getting to be a little much. The tense woman stifled a harsh bark of a laugh behind a fist, looking in the direction of the two worried girls "Hey, guys... it's fine. I'm saving -my- fire for thread."

To accentuate that point, her gaze drifted back to the remaining hatchlings and the rocking eggs. "The only ones we have to prove ourselves to are those dragons. Till then, let's try to keep fardling civil since we're going to have to be watching each other's arses in the future."

Ashlyn (to Mei)

Ashlyn saw the look from one of the other girls and gulped, not wanting to start anything with one of the others. When she heard Mei speak, she turned to her with a grateful smile, her words making her feel better.

"Thank you, I suppose I just didn't want a fight to break out and anyone get hurt. Let us hope we will be lucky enough to get a dragon today,"Ashlyn replied to the other.

Every now and again there is an egg that doesn't draw a lot of attention. That manages to break shell without a lot of rocking or jumping around. The Hippopotamus egg was one of these. With all the commotion going on it was not a surprise that people would miss the thin dark lines spreading out across the murky shell. The egg didn't buck or move enough to roll, the hatchling inside quietly working away at the shell to make their escape. The process was unhurried, frequently stopping for long periods of time before picking up again, making a few more cracks and then pausing once more.

It was just as Black Mamba impresses that a small fragment of egg fell away near the top of the egg. Time ticked by before a four clawed finger-like toes emerged, pushing down on the shell. The dragon inside made no sounds as it worked on its escape and if the egg's stillness was any give away, it did not move either. The shell slowly began to buckle under the hatchling's constant pressure, cracks widening and reaching further across the surface, but this still caused no apparent reaction from the dragon inside.

Several snaps and cracks were heard in rapid succession, heralding the dragon's triumph over egg. The shell collapsed under the combined pressure from the dragon and the weakness of several cracks splintering its surface. The foot sliced through the shell, opening a wide chasm as it finally collided with the floor of the cavern, claws digging into soft sand as the hatchling stepped out of the opening, eyes fixing immediately on the candidates, paying no mind to the actions of his siblings. The blue's hide was a rich, dark, shade, the colour becoming obvious as he slowly stepped clear of the eggs remains, leaving behind the thing that had once contained him.

Lysandor

It was hard not to pay attention to the eggs that were bucking and moving as well the dragonets that were moving around and looking for candidates, it was almost a shame that he had missed the hippopatamus egg hatching for it was only when it stepped free of its shell that he spotted it from the corner of his eyes. Oh! It was another blue, a quiet one at that though it had been quietly determined to get out of its shell.

So quiet no one seemed to really notice it happening until it was already done. Some part of him felt guilty, all the eggs deserved the same amount of attention, but everyone was too caught up with the eggs that moved about a lot or the dragonets who had yet to impress. Looking to the blue he sent a silent apology to it.

Mei
(Tag Ashlyn)

Mei shrugged at Ashlyn's words, not sparing more than a quick glance as the newly hatched blue gained her attention. It slunk and slid so quietly, that she wondered if this too was a creature she'd have to potentially dodge to keep safe from rending claws and gnashing teeth. But, if Black mamba was anything to go by, this one too would eventually Impress. One thing was for sure, it'd do so in it's own time. Till then, Mei would merely watch from afar, quietly hopeful as she scanned the young dragonets.

"You won't see -me- throwing the first punch" Mei said with a bark of a laugh. It seemed like that awkward sound wasn't just one she held when she was feeling disdainful; she merely had an awkward sounding laugh no matter what the situation. She one hand over her head as an acknowledgment of her stature, self deprecating. Her tone was no longer angry, and was in fact joking. The levity was keeping her somewhat at ease, more shaken by the verbal encounter than she would want to let off. With any luck, it didn't show on her face.

Hennory

Now, this was an interesting turn of events; another slinky, sly blue. This one so far hadn't moved to hide, but nor did it his as threateningly as his brother. In fact, instead of avoiding the candidates, his gaze was already evaluating them with intent. He remembered this one, the clear warning to run, not so much hostile as it was a clear warning. What sort of personality simmered beneath that cool danger? What would his perfect pairing be? He absently wondered if it would be him, but really there was no way to know these things, but he'd asked himself the same question when that green had knocked him to the ground. There was one thing that he knew; if he did Impress, he would have to ask the dragon just what made him so appealing. Would they even have an answer for him?

Ashlyn (tag to Mei)

"Good, would hate to see any of us getting hurt out here, though I would be able to heal anyone that was,"Ashlyn replied to the other. Her eyes went back to the eggs and she saw a blue dragon starting to emerge. She had to admit, with so much going on, she hadn't even seen it hatching. She felt bad, she should have been paying more attention to the dragons, instead of being distracted by the other candidates. She gave a silent look of apology to the blue, though she knew it would not hear her. She saw it looking in the way of them already and wondered if it knew who it was supposed to impress to.

She thought this dragon was an awful quiet one and didn't seem as hostile as his brother. The fact he was already looking for his rider made her feel good about his outcome, knowing he would find his rider. She silently cheered him on, hoping his rider would take good care of him.
