D'von cracked a smile. "They say that if you can't handle someone at their worst, you don't deserve their best." It spread into a grin. "Guess that's gotta be true, since you've seen me be ten types of idiot."

Nae laughed. "Wait til you meet my family." She grinned, her yes glinting mischievously. The thought of her moms reaction to Huel and the thought of what she may think of D'von. She shook her heD, wondering if she would even make it out of her family's lands alive after michiko got ahold of her.

D'von laughed. "As long as they don't try and gut me the instant I step on their territory, I think I'll live." He nuzzled her affectionately. "You haven't told me a lot about your family. What're they like?"

Nae grinned. "Well... I can't promise my mother won't akin you, but everyone else in my family is rather peaceful. I have a twin who has two children, and four younger sisters. My nephews are my world. When thy were born... Well.. I had to help raise them..." Sadness flicked through her eyes.

D'von grinned. "You're dad's not gonna kill me on site?" At the sadness in Nae's eyes, he frowned and moved to her side. He lightly stretched his head and laid it across her shoulders. "What happened?"

Arachnae shook her head. "My sister birthed four foals. Two were kidnapped by... Coincidentally... Ruin..." She shook her head. "One if my worst fears is that any children I have... That Ruin would do the same to me. "

D'von nuzzled her reassuringly. "Ruin won't touch them. I won't let him anywhere near you or our kids." He pulled back and gently nudged her cheek. "Everything's going to be fine, sweet pea. I'll always be here to protect you." He'd train more, train until even the sight of him would send Ruin running back into the desert. He would make sure his family was safe.

D'von took that to heart. He had her trust; he wouldn't let her down. "Should we keep going now?" Even though they were in the north now, being around Azrien that Nae trusted would make him feel a little more comfortable.

Arachnae nodded. "They are just over the hill there." She motioned for him to follow as she began towards her family.
Bruin and Huel were doing a father/son patrol and had just rounded upon the hill when they saw Arachnae's form, and then the dragon behind her. With a growl, Bruin started down the hill. He had heard of the dragon-beings and none were going to hurt his Aunt. Fire erupted on his legs as he charged at the being.
Huel followed Bruin at a more leisurely pace, knowing he couldn't stop his son, anymore than he could attack without finding out more information.

D'von's eyes dilated at the sight of the flames, but his training stopped him from blindly attacking. He sighed, waiting until the youth approached to rear up and shoot one hoof into the attacker's forehead. Dropping down again, he turned to Nae, not a singe mark on his body--though the movement exposed his still-healing stab wound from his fight with Ruin. "You could've warned me you had fire-wielders in your family. Geez, talk about a heart attack..."

Nae's eyes widened before she turned and head-butted her nephew. "Bruin! Back down, Now!" She demanded almost angrily before turning back to D'von. "I'm sorry... I just don't tend to think about it. Meet Bruin MabCaw, grandson of that b*****d that attacked you." She said, glaring at her nephew who was backing down earnestly with his head dipped.
"But Aunt... He's a dragon... I have heard of he and his brothers, and they are nothing but trouble!" Bruin said, chancing a glare at the male, though he stepped back and obeyed his Aunt.
Huel finally caught up. "Welcome home, Arachnae. Who is your friend here?" He asked, peering at the male warily.
"Huel, this is my Lifemate, D'von. D'von, this is my brother-in-law, Huel, and his son Bruin."

"I didn't know Ruin had northern grandkids. ... Guess that explains why I never heard about Niniane and Aduro's parents." D'von's gaze slowly shifted to Bruin as he gave his two-cents. "The trouble part's not intentional. It comes with the 'demon spawn' title." He was a little surprised at himself, how lightly he was taking the insults. "But if I really wanted to hurt you, I would've sent you running with your tail between your legs like your gramps." He nodded his greeting to Huel and Bruin when introduced, choosing not to speak again since his tongue was on a sarcastic spree.

Huel grinned at the male. "You sent my father running?" He asked.
Nae nodded. "yes, I saw it. D'von is fire-proof and would have killed him if Ruin hadn't run like a coward." She responded.
Bruin let up. If this male had defended his aunt and sent Ruin running then perhaps he was okay.
Huel grinned broadly. "Welcome to the family, D'von." he turned back to Nae. "Michiko's gonna kill you." He sang before nudging his son and walkign back to continue patrol.

"Yeah, I did. Didn't make it easy, though..." D'von's gaze went to his side, where the shrinking--but still large--stab wound from Ruin's saddle was. His gaze went from Huel to Nae at his last comment. "I doubt she'd kill you, but will she kill me?"
