He turned, heading back in the direction of the shore. "Your arm doesn't bug me, Rin. Neither of them do. I don't care if you're missing a arm or leg or anything else. I cleaned it after all, didn't I!" He barked at her, moving slowly. "Come on before you drown out here."

"I'm fine," she whimpered. It was mostly his tone and the situation that she was starting to get upset and unable to focus on swimming right. She refused to follow him towards the shore. "Whatever it is it's okay. I'll let it go, just don't take it out on me. I just want a chance to like... hear.. a-," she garbled again before straightening back out a bit and spitting out the water. "Ugh. So gross."

Melvin stopped and turned, watching her bob up and down. "To hear what? It's not okay, Rin. It's.." He had to pause to keep his voice from rising. It wasn't like him. "...It's nothing. I don't want to talk about it, okay?"
He watched her continue to gargle the ocean, his own stomach turning at the idea of Sealife Listerine, before be breathed out to calm down a notch. "Are you okay? Can you make it to shore?"

That was all Rin wanted to know really. That she wasn't crazy and that he wasn't lying anymore, "Okay." She eventually started to calm down enough she wasn't struggling as hard but she was starting to look more tired than she was willing to let on. Just doing the minimal requirement to keep her head above water, "No more fighting, okay?"

He was relieved she wasn't going to push it, and nodded. "For now. I'm sure there will be a spar in our future somewhere." But on to more pressing matters. "Now can you make it to shore?" He glanced ahead to the beach and felt like an idiot for moving this far. The again, he had hoped Rin would realize he was moving away from her and would have stayed put.

Rin looked far at the beach then back at Melvin. She didn't think she could, but she also didn't want to admit it either, "Yeah... an awesome spar too..." she smiled and started to paddle towards him, her head turned up so she could continue to stay up, "and.. eh.. maybe." She mentally added, we'll see wont we?

He decided to move, but decided to swim in front of her going backwards to watch her in case she dropped too low. "Then keep moving and I'll.." He paused for just a second. "...grab you if you start sinking." Great. This was just ******** great. She should have just stayed on the shore. Even a boob grab wasn't worth this.

Rin smiled wearily as she watched him, swimming at his pace, "I bet you're hungry. I'm famished." Ever oblivious to her own situation, or perhaps trying to keep herself from panicking and making it worse.

Really? She was talking about food now when she could barely keep herself up. Still, he wanted to talk about anything other than the topic from before. "I have some sandwiches in my backpack. I didn't know how long I was going to be out here after all." He had pretty much brought everything he needed to stay out here for a while without getting sun burned, dehydrated, or hungry. He even had hand sanitizer, a flashlight, and Listerine strips for after lunch. "I'll split them with you."

Rin smiled at him and seemed to catch a second wind, pulling her head up clear of the water and paddling more valiantly after him, "I'd like that very much, thank you."
She did fall quiet for a moment before thoughts started to sloooowly creep back but she sent them packing with a massive 'denied' stamped on their hides followed by a newer more distracting topic, "Hey Melvin, uh, do you consider me your friend?"

He noticed she was pushing herself, and picked up the pace. Dallying around the deep waters any longer was not in her best interest and he really didn't want to have to be in the situation where he was the one to drag her to shore.
At the subject change, again another strange one considering the situation, he just looked mildly surprised. "Well...yeah, I guess. Why would you ask?" Rin was probably the closest thing to a friend he was going to get here.

Rin's smile broadened and she seemed to push even harder to keep up with him, "Oh just. I wondered what you considered this. I sometimes wonder if like, you only put up with me to be nice." She chuckled softly, "The usual self-doubting bullshit really."

He smiled at her. "I'm not that nice." It was said in a cheerful voice, but it did not sound like a joke. Melvin was very serious.
"We're almost there." He told her.

Rin smirked at Melvin with a serious edge. It was quite possible she more than believed him.
The smirk broke as she felt something giving resistance to her kicking just below, "I think I almost can feel the ground."
