Sniffing at the ingredients Mea was satisfied and with a nod she pulled out a few she deemed worthy. With a bob of her ears she delicately placed Cinnamon, Cedarwood Oil, Vervain and Juniper berries in to be ground. Licking her lips at the smell she began to grind swiftly and carefully into a soft, fine mix. Her tail twitched as she finished, nodding to her work in satisfaction before moving on down the list of instructions.
She had been paying attention for the most part and twitched her ears impatiently as she moved on to the charcoal bit. Irritating. She thought, making an unamused face as she dusted the mix lightly. No need to ruin a good thing with too much of something else, right? Mea blinked and shrugged. "I think it'll be okay." It was lightly spoken, as if to herself. Looking around to the others she blinked a few times. Were they already done? Had they done well? There wasn't any time to waste.
Tilting her head to the side she scratched an ear thoughtfully with a long "Hmmmm." So far so good, and kind of yummy smelling too. She thought, getting off track. Shaking her head swiftly to each side she regained enough focus to add some Gum of Arabic to the mixture. It was a good size glob added and she was happy with it, so much so she began to bounce while reaching in for a stick to attach it to.
Rummaging into the box while bouncing wasn't the smartest idea and soon the rabbit regretted doing it as the mixture slid off quickly. Mea frowned with an irritated flick of her ears along with her tail.
This wasn't right, what had gone wrong?

Lucien tried his best to listen to Invictus, the heir to the throne of conquest, a familiar face in this foreign land. He had seen the heir before, perhaps at one of the dances it was? He wasn't overly experienced with him but he was familiar, and that pretty much meant friend in Lucien's book. All Lucien's friends deserved all the attention he could muster up and no matter what he was going to try! Not even a shoe mumbling Lepus Guide could stop him now. Something about this, something about that. Lucien gathered up the ingredients from batch two -- Frankincense, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Lemon Balm, Citron -- and carefully put them together. He ground them up, and tried with a lot of effort not to mix them up too much.
"This should do it," he said out loud, a bit proud of his work. It wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't the worst! It certainly was better than his attempt at dancing earlier. Oh, that had been a disaster. This was so much better than that had been.
What was next though? Lucien had to think about that for a minute. He tried his best to pay attention to what Invictus had said but his mind still lingered quite frequently. He looked around at his classmates, and then back to Invictus. The classmates seemed to be adding charcoal next, was that right? He looked around, watched Invictus and then wanted. Nothing seemed to be objected to and Lucien cautiously added that into it too. He wasn't sure on the proportions though, so he just tossed some in! That should do it, right? It turned out to be quite a bit, seven pieces. He mixed it in thoroughly, and hoped for the best as his thoughts moved on.
This involved so much thinking! Ahhhh, Lucien had a mild moment of panic until what Invictus said hit him. Something to stick it together like he stuck to Israfel! There was a large smile on his face as he thought about Israfel, a quick thought about texting the boil pictures of his precious attire to him. Would he like that? He hadn't seen him since the trials and he had been a bit down when he found out that his bird wasn't in the same group but he would hold tight. He held on tight to the feeling he had, and soon he would release it for the bird to find. He wouldn't do it over text, no, it would be in person. During his thoughts, he had thrown in some of the bonding agent. However, his thoughts had been a little too full of Israfel and it didn't quite stick the way it should have. He'd have to redo it.

Finally! Wylfenne managed to do it, the incense was set. Fae was nervously trying to hold their breath, watching the incense and being afraid it will explode or disappear at any moment.

Taking another stick and her mixture she pressed tight against the smooth wood with a grunt. Her body had ceased bouncing and she sat still, staring with wonder at the stick, allowing it to set. Another impatient tail flick set her to stare back at her friends, wondering how they had done. Bon, Dev and Fallow all seemed done with their incense and each had their own varying smells.
With a grin towards them she spoke gently. "I wonder if we get to keep any of this stuff." She mused, turning back to it thoughtfully. Had she done it right? It was too late to go back and start all over now. With a long exhale she took in another deep breath. Now all that was left was to see if it had lived up to the standards of the Conquest Clan.

This time Lucien was more careful about his mixing and his thoughts. He tried to keep a proper balance between the somewhat overflowing love he was feeling for Israfel and the task at hand. It worked out this time, at least better than it had the previous time. Much better, it stuck! There was something very pleasing about succeeding where you had once failed. Oh, if only Israfel could see his triumph! He wasn't finished yet though, was he? It still didn't really fit the idea of what he was supposed to be doing, now did it?
He pondered, and thought long on the final step. Surely if he thought as hard has he had stared at the clouds then he would soon be able to remember what the last part was. Oh yes! It came to him, and he smiled when he realized that all along he had been doing that. All he had to do was wait for the last part, how delightful was that? Well, that was no contest. Lucien smiled, and hummed and generally just thought about Israfel. He would have kept doing so, possibly long past the end of the class, had he not caught his attention on another student nearby. He looked at them for a bit, and then he looked back to his incense. Well, that was probably enough time! Step 1 Result: 6: Frankincense, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Lemon Balm, Citron Step 2 Result: 7 Step 3 Result: 6 Step 4 Result: 6 & 3 Re-Roll Step 5 Result: 9

Finally! Despite all their composure Wylfenne was about to jump and scream. The mixture was done, and their body was weak with relief. After all, they were not that good at being unshattered unemotional adults. Not yet, not yet. Anyway, the only thing to be done now was to wait. As JD lazed on the mat, leaning back on his arms, he studied the ceiling. Huh. Kinda neat, he supposed, if you had the free time for that sort of thing. He hoped they wouldn't be expected to be carving any ceilings during his stay here. He could break a nail.
Oblivious to anyone talking to him, he didn't come around till someone tried to pass him a packet of ground-up smelly stuff. Oh. Class had begun.
After a few quick seconds of study, he selected his ingredient of choice: rose petals. After all, weren't they like, romantic or some s**t? Yeah. He'd get those ghouls some rose petals. Bitches loved rose petals. He tossed a handful of them from his box into the bowl and ground at them boredly for a few seconds before calling it done. Whatever, man. I mean, it was rose petals right? They were pretty much guarenteed to smell nice. The bigger chunks would surely BURN BETTER anyway.
The next step, insofar as he understood it, was charcoal. He liberally poured his into the rose-mess. Yeah, look man, JD needed time to put the MOVES on a lady, right? This s**t had to burn for a good long while. It needed endurance, baby. He applied slightly less bonding agent- but only ever so slightly. However, apparenty it wasn't QUITE enough, as the sweet-smelling concoction just didn't wanna ride his disco stick...

Finally, after yet another failure, the frustration of watching the rose-chunks flake off time and time again drove JD to drastic measures.
He gave his incense stick a nice, long lick.
It totally worked. It tasted of treebark, though. Bleh.

Whew. He stuck the stick with it's pathetic globs of rose-petal-charcoal-chunks behind his ear to dry. He used the time wisely- that is, he lolled around on his bottom and surveyed the class. He decidedly ignored his sister. And the fact that she seemed to be doing better than him. He glanced around boredly before taking up his study of the ceiling again. He wondered who was responsible for carving all that stuff- looked pretty time-intensive, and it seemed like people around here mostly just flounced around in dresses drinking tea and bowing. Yeah, that was a totally fair assessment. Eventually, he remembered to check on his project, and it seemed things for the most part worked out ok. Well...sorta.Step 1 Result: Rose Petals What number did you roll? 3 Step 2 Result: What number did you roll? 9 Step 3 Result: What number did you roll? 7 Step 4 Result: What number did you roll? 8 blah, 10 blah, 6 blah, 8 blah, 4 blah, 3 YES Step 5 Result: What number did you roll? 9

This sucked. This sucked, this sucked, this sucked. Qlue scowled at the wooden beams, scowled at the tapestries, and scowled the box in front of her. It was if a thunderstorm lingered on her face as her scowl deepened, violet eyes narrowing with barely-suppressed rage as Invictus spoke. As soon as they were given leave, the Astrosphinx made to snatch things that were listed before she halted her hand, staring at the large spiked bracelet on her wrist. Wait. Waiiit. She eyed the box, growled something under her breath, and snatched several ingredients at random. These were flung into the mortar and ground into powder with more force then necessary, one at a time. The loud c***k CLINK of the ceramic device was painfully loud as Qlue all but bludgeoned the ingredients into submission. The ingredients were mixed together before Qlue threw the stick of charcoal in, not even bothering to grind it up. A bit of it broke off while the rest of it, propelled by the force of the throw, bounced out of it to land elsewhere. Next came the bonding ingredient. While it was likely to bind everything together, Qlue growled as the mixture failed to bind.

Surrounded by the variety of ingredients, Lailah wasn't certain of what to pick. Glancing back and forth at the materials, she seemed to hesitate before one and the other. "U-um." She had no clue to the ratio nor chemistry of one ingredient to another.
Rose petals, cedar, and sandalwood.
She should start off with something simple, she supposed.

Both hands clasped together, she did her best to grind the ingredients down. She worked diligently on each, spending far longer on it than she should have. When she was done with it, she pulled back to look at her efforts.
"Is this fine?" She wondered aloud, lowering herself eye-level with the bow.
Next was the charcoal powder!

If it didn't want to bind on its own, Qlue would make it. She picked up the pestle, twirling it in her fingers before applying a large dose of brute strength to the mixture.

She dropped the pestle on to the table she was at, giving her mixture a pleased, fanged smile. This was going to be great!Poor, poor Invictus.
