Robert might not have quite understood what Caelius had meant, with the demotion, however Petra certainly looked indignant enough for the two of them. Even with her near-exhaustion, from where she sat the moon trainee's eyebrows lifted in surprise at the announcement, shock quickly making way to quiet, cold anger. Of course he was going to demote them -- why hadn't any of them... no, all of them seen this coming? What had first seemed like tough love to a bunch of green, wide-eyed, bushy-tailed trainees quickly became a very apparent loathing of their very existence. Caelius didn't hate them because they were new or because they didn't perform to some sort of high expectation, he just hated them. There was no expectation, because even if they acted like the perfect soldiers, the perfect soldier that Petra had consistently strived to be, it would never be good enough.
And right that moment, he seemed to hate Robert just a little more than the rest of them, which just pissed her off more.
From where he sat just beside her, Petra felt the weight of her fiance's chin lift from her shoulder, moving to get up to react to the summons. Her palm twitched a little against the cool table beneath it, as if resisting the urge to grab him as he walked by, keep him from going forward. That, however, was impossible. Unless, of course, she felt the keen desire to have an intimate knowledge of all the sorts of punishments Caelius (and/or Dr H,) could come up with. In terms of danger, the rebuke she knew was coming for Robert was likely a mild one, probably more of a source of tension release for the Death leader. It wouldn't hurt him too badly, and might make the division leader feel better about himself. Which kind of did not help her simmering rage, unsurprisingly.
It had meant so much to Robert, that promotion.
The crackling sound of electricity had gotten nearly everyone's attention, but as far as she was aware, the moon trainee was the only one who jumped out of their seat. It hadn't been so much of a conscious reaction or an act of defiance -- she hadn't really thought about it or anything. Had she even cared to think about it at that moment, she would have definitely filed it under 'automatic reactions to your fiance suddenly collapsing in an epileptic fit.' Hesitating for half a second, both palms braced against the table now, Petra stared in horror at how he twitched, that look quickly contorting to steel-eyed glare. It wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, and she didn't unfocus from Robert's collapsed form but it wasn't hard to guess who it was for. Pushing off the table, she walked with quick, purposeful strides to where the life hunter had collapsed, the motion just bordering on a jog, before she dropped to her knees. Struggling to turn him onto his side to make sure he didn't choke, she moved her fingers to where he'd hit the desk with his shoulder, placing his head in her lap to wait it out.
Sorry Leon, nothing personal, she just had far less invested interest in you.

For once she kept silent and simply watched. There was no particular reason why other than that she was not in a good mood, and she did not expect to be toasting marshmallows over a fire with Caelius this time when he summoned them to a classroom.
Reine shifted slightly, taking in the news of the demotions. She could only imagine the indignation- she would have felt the same had it affected her- but once again, there must be some sort of reason, and whatever it was, she really didn't care; her whole body was aching from the work they had been assigned after Christmas. So this time there were no questions, there was no yelling, just a girl sitting in a corner tiredly, her eyes fluttering shut from time to time as her head dipped slightly.

There should have been anger or hurt or disappointment or something going on in Before's head. But the former Lifer-turned-Misty now newly demoted only sighed and stared and listened. Sure he winced in sympathy pain for what happened to his former Lifers but better them than me, he supposed. The demotion should have gotten a reaction from him but honestly? This was a Division Leader talking.
There has never been any indication they gave a flying ******** about them other than as cannon fodder. Or breathing punching bags. Or a waste of space.
Before didn't trust the leaders. Well, not to be of any help at least. The division leaders were just going to keep trying to break them again and again and again until they finally do succeed.
He isn't sure what they were hoping to achieve with this kind of treatment but it was clear to Before: Caelius was setting them all up to fail.
Couldn't he have been, iunno, a little less obvious about it? Oh, no, wait, divison leader, yeah never mind. Before was not surprised or impressed or giving a damn. Nothing the trainees did was ever good enough. And after that way bizarro Christmas s**t and the robots and the ninja and the almost dying for the... nth time?
Before saw no reason he needed their approval apart from getting promotions. And oh would you look at that, he's under someone who wasn't Caelius or H. Giving no ********, Before is.
Okay so maybe not entirely no ********. The prospect of the runic weapons piqued his interest. O.O

Tori had kept quiet when she had entered the classroom. She was sore and tired when sitting down to listen to what Caelus had to say. At first it had been enjoyable since it was new to her, but at the end of a week Tori just wanted it all to be done and over with. It was good to see that things were getting to being ‘normal’ again, by her having to run to get to this classroom on time.
Hearing the demotions and Tori did feel bad for them, especially for Before. Tori had to wonder to what they were going to survey for those missions, but then her interests were perked when Caelius mentioned runic weapons. She did want to learn how to use them, Aklin huffed a little at her but he was just as curious at those weapons as his Hunter was and he was much more beautiful than those runic weapons were.

Demotions.. hrr.
She could feel for them. She could see the strain that crossed several of their faces, and those who hadn't bothered to turn and look at others in disbelief; their ridged shoulders and clenching fists were enough to know just what their expressions read. She couldn't exactly disagree with Caelius' decision, because she couldn't quite recall what mission he was talking about or whether she had even been on it. But Minerva could, and did, feel for the higher ups that had worked so hard for their promotions.
Thankfully they were being given a chance at redemption, and from her propped up position the woman could tell that relief was sweeping over the bubbling anguish hastily. She too released a sigh and thrusted off of the wall, standing as tall as she could when the mentioning of runic weapons became the preceding topic of interest.
.. more weapons? Runic? Blythe growled at the back of Minnie's head, not that the reaction worried the trainee in the least. What DID worry her was the look on both of the boys faces who had been chosen to demonstrate what the weapons were/did. Minerva took a step forward, and then another, standing on her toes to get a better look.

Bix had been there the whole time. He'd been there, hiding his face slightly in his sleeve and elbowing Gale and Before everytime Caelius said something particularly harsh.
Demotion was shitty. He thought they'd coped pretty well while the bosses were away.
Well you were wrong. Mina snickered, amused at his distress.
He watched impassively when Leon and Robert were crippled with pain. He was pretty interested in the Runic weapons, despite Mina's sneer about their 'inferiority'. It would be nice to carry something he could use in short range. Tha pale haired hunter didn't have any questions. Things seemed to be unfolding fine on their own.

I must admit, I'm quite pleased with your reaction to the news. A smile was audible in Vanna's voice as she crooned to her partner. She had been expecting a mental breakdown and internal weeping from the brunette. This unconcerned and unaffected reaction was a welcomed change. Of course, the continued silence was unnerving her.
Even the elbowing from Bix seemed to go unnoticed. And there was a lot of elbowing given Caelius' penchant for abusing the trainees.
Silly Before? I hope you realize that these... alternatives are just that. Alternatives and not substitutes for the real deal...
Course, Vanna, you know you're the only weapon for me! He mentally smiled in reassurance before he leaned to Bix and Gale to whisper out of the side of his mouth, "Does that mean we can't be in the same team?"
Before wanted the chance to go on a mission with his Beta Bros again. It would have been just like old times. But that was something that would make him happy and Caelius seemed hell-bent on destroying anything resembling happiness :<

Demoted, but she......
You've worked hard, Cassandra. Just keep it up and you'll get it back. Don't worry about it. Nicodemus reminded her, but still Cass couldn't help but seem...bothered by all of this, steeping her arms and watching as-
"Holy s**t..." she whispered under her breath, watching the weapons as they laid the smackdown upon Leon and Robert, and making a small face. Still, she couldn't help but frown at all of the new information. Runic weapons, huh? She'd...have to get clearance for those. She'd been thinking she wanted to be a good hunter with or without Nicodemus, these were a chance for her to do just that. How did she get clearance?
Had someone already asked that?
Maybe Caelius had mentioned it. Cass seemed twitchy, but perhaps it was just being tired.
There you go, Cassandra. That will be a good use of your time.

Ariane was at the back, watching and listening like a true creeper. So she knew what was happening too. Really.
She wasn't sure how to feel about the idea of demotions, and sure, she wasn't happy about it, but eh... Did they do badly? Did they not perform because they didn't have someone there to give them instructions? She really wasn't sure anymore.

As Leon entered the room Marcus felt that shame return. He was so sorry Leon. Forgive. Please. He'd never touch another mystery bandage ever again. The life hunter was given an awkward smile before he got into a scrap with Robert. Really? Did the guys just... Caelius was.... ******** morons. He slapped his hand on his face in shame. Ryan got a smile. "Better yeah. Just wish they would settle down." Not like it mattered much as the man they had reported to spoke up.
Dread crawled up his git as Caelius spoke, and when the sentence was carried out, it felt like he'd been punched. Demoted. A quick glance around the room at the others who had advanced told him just what he needed to know, they all seemed to feel some form of shame. They might have the chance to be re-promoted but- That would depend on their, (the trainees on a whole), competency. God Marcus felt bad. He already had been feeling like he'd ******** up now it was like a nail in that self judgmental coffin.
Watching as the man called Leon and Robert out, Marcus wasn't sure where this was going and if he liked it. Runic weapons were still weapons and... runes were all over the place to power s**t right? Don't get any ideas Marcus, I don't go for cheaters. Marcus raised his brow at Dis's remark. Why would he- Jealous I might touch a different weapon? Unless it's the one in your pants you don't touch any weapon but me Ew ME.
Any notion of using a runic weapon left the table as Robert and Leon got a shocking surprise to say the least. jesus ********.

Ouch. That was not quite what Deryk expected, but it didn't really pertain to him quite as much as the guys who were all recently promoted. When Leon and Robert were pretty much tazed, he jumped and stared at them both with wide eyes.
"G-guys? Guys? You ok there?"

As Petra swept in, Jerry pulled his leg back away from Robert, letting her tend to him. Well, he was still alive, that was good. Candace's still stiff-posture beside him made him glance around, waiting for the next instruction. They'd still have an opportunity to prove themselves, that was good. Judging by the various grumpy expressions, not everyone was seeing it that way.
BUT! These sorts of things built character, as his Grandfather used to say. And these additional weapons excited him, much to Roar's chagrin. He was a Sun Hunter, damage was what he was expected to deal. And if just one touch of one of those things took down Robert and Leon....

It took a few moments longer before Caelius turned to look at Candace, the only trainee in the room who had bothered to step forward. And even then it looked like he was looking through her. "Fight, train." A sneer. "Level up, learn valuable life lessons, not <******** up all the goddamned time and waste everyone's ******** time."
Painful silence. The Death Hunter reveled in it, simply taking the time to flip through several documents on his desk.
"You are all trainees and perhaps one day be Hunters. Try not to outlive your usefulness before you get there. If you have personal questions then you need to ******** earn the right to have them answered." Circe in her de-summoned form shifted next to the stack of papers, seemingly focusing on a couple of the trainees: Gale, Bix, Before. Her master did not bother to look up. "You are dismissed." RUNIC WEAPONS AND THE DEUS EX MACHINA INFORMATION ARCHIVES - Your trainee receives a text message inviting them to the Deus Ex Machina information archives. It is a slightly extensive database showcasing several topics, though some others such as History of Deus Ex, and Files of Past Hunters seemed to be locked for trainees. The database can be accessed through the phone or several of the archaic library computers. - The database also features information regarding Runic Weapons here, and a brief overview of how to use them and where to obtain them (see: training field weapons registration building) - If you would like to obtain an IC reason to use other features or to ask if its possible to have ___ features in the database, just ask in the Gm request forum or you can pm Zoobey just to clarify in detail, especially if this pertains to 1999 past things SPECIAL SURVEILLANCE MISSIONS - New EXTERNAL MISSIONS (follow the quote of "EXTERNAL MISSIONS") have been added to each trainee's cell phone. They can now take an external mission and upon completion, fill out the form. As intermediate trainees are "acting intermediate trainees" now, they can still prove their worth to be granted what little privileges they had back - think of it as a probation. - If you have any questions regarding how External Missions work in detail or would like to do something a little more different, please pm me thank you! OOC - Feel free to post a reaction post before exiting

Sitting stonily throughout the rest of Caelius' little demonstration, Gale didn't even bat an eye when both of the trainees called forward were abruptly zapped by the runic weapons, though his expression flickered just the slightest. He also studiously ignored Bix's constant nudging, sitting so tensely in his seat it looked as though he might have been carved out of stone.
The word demoted as well as suspension were obviously still ringing horribly within Gale's mind.
<< Relax. >> came Jinhai's voice. << You look like you're about to have a conniption. >>
Maybe I am.
<< You'll get your promotion back. >>
Gale almost snorted, but refrained at the last second, instead giving Caelius another look of loathing. He heard Before's voice hiss in his ear, low and anxious.
However he did not get a chance to reply, since Caelius was now back to talking to them - or rather, talking at them, since clearly he did not think enough of them to put them on the same level as him. But disgruntled or not, Gale was looking forward to the chance at getting his damned promotion back. His eyes flickered towards the tiny, glowing form of Circe, bobbing around on the desk beside her master. Obviously Gale could not understand the weapon, but she seemed to be looking in his direction...
Or maybe it was just his imagination. Gale pushed himself to his feet as soon as the dismissal was called, looking back at Before.
"We can still be a team," he said, and then swept from the room without a backward glance, a look of grim determination on his pale face.

Bix frowned at Gale a bit. The younger boy was so serious he was pretty sure he'd give himself a hernia or something. Demotion was pretty bad but what else could you expect from their douche bag superiors?
The albino hunter gave Before a bro-fist. "Always a team man." He was suspicious of the glowing, floating eye but it was sometimes hard to tell what it was looking at.
He hopped to his feet and followed Gale, hoping to catch up to him in the hall for a chat.
