 The night was dark, but the stars were bright. Aavard rode toward the southeast, strapping Alice's dagger to his thigh. His heart was heavy with sorrow, his face a hardened mask. Deep down, he was afraid; he didn't know how to control his newfound power, he was leaving his soulmate behind, and he never had practice at commanding an entire army. All he knew, he had learned from watching his older cousin. Aavard heaved a sigh, praying to his gods and asking them to protect his love. Gripping the reigns tighter and spurring his horse onward toward a shallow river, he vowed he would live... for her.

 Alice could feel Aarvard getting further and further away from her. Pretty soon she wouldn't be able to touch minds with him. The most intimate form of communication two people can share and the only one that kept her sane in this labyrinth of a castle would be gone. She knew that she would not sleep this night so she went to Alden's room. It was well after dark, well after many people were sleeping ever so innocently in their beds. She traveled through the halls and there was only the light of the torches illuminating the way. She connected to Alden's mind and found him sleeping. She bid him to wake and told him to get dressed. She went to go knock on his door and it flew open beneath her fist.

Alden headed the caravan for the Kingdom; they arrived three days later amid gray skies that constantly threatened a torrential downpour. He showed Alice to her room and headed for his own.
A few hours later, he was sound asleep; he felt a mental tug and woke. Recognizing the essence, he allowed the connection. Alice... She would be at his door shortly.
Alden dressed quickly and, feeling her presence near, opened the door before she could knock. "In," he ordered, closing the door firmly behind them. "To what do I owe this... very late pleasure?"

 "I need to discuss a few things with you. I don't know if Aarvard shared with you that I am a shapeshifter. Well more of a hybrid because I have a were mother and a human father. Anyways the point is, I'm going to need a place to let out my "inner" wolf." As Alice was speaking she morphed her features into her normal form. She watched Alden's facial expressions. "Also I would like to work on handpicking a few of your guardsmen to protect me. Their are evil forces at work in the palace that are determined to see Aarvard not succeed. I intend to stop such attempts. Please do not tempt to sway my mind." She took a breath, held up a hand to ward off Alden's attempt to speak. "Since I can not be with him, I will assist him from here. Also I would like to be included in the decisions involving the war. I do have some experience as a strategist and I can provide a fresh pair of eyes." She closed her mouth. Alice cast out her thoughts, since meeting Aarvard she was growing more powerful with her mental abilities not her physical abilities. Unless you include increased agility and endurance. She felt for the tell-tale touch of any hybrids or were's minds. She wanted to see if she would be able to get into contact with them and see if they would help her cause.

Alden sighed. "I can give you guards and I can give you the royal forest. However, you can have no say in the war. This is not my decision. I am as helpless as you are. Aavard is in charge. Neither of us can do anything from here. If you want to help him or have a say in the plans, you'd have to be there on the front lines and talk to him about it. But judging by that look in your eyes," he said, shrewdly spotting a flicker of emotion, "he wouldn't allow it... would he?"
He motioned for her to join him on a couch. "I suppose it was for your safety? He worries needlessly. Perhaps I could arrange something... move you to his camp. It would take some time, though, to make sure it was safe. Would you be interested," he asked with disinterest as he inspected his immaculate nails.

"You could do that?" She asked as uninterested as she possibly could. Inside her heart jumped. This way she could ensure the safety of Aarvard and his throne. "How soon could i have "run" of the forest? As well as pick the guards?" Alice asked. "I need to shift forms and soon. I don't dare do that when there are so many threats around." Alice sent out her thoughts to Alden, she never realized just how much that she despised titles until she noticed that she never called him King. There are threats about that would see to it that Alden never sees the seat of the throne. I am a liability to him if i can't even protect myself in my other forms. She fell silent. She sat and watched him silently as she waited with abated breath for his answer.

"I will issue the order tomorrow morning. You can have the forest and pick your guards then. I could arrange for you to be at Aavard's camp at the end of the week. He would know you are there, of course, but he would have no choice but to let you stay."
He stood and walked across his marble floor to the book case, pulling out a book of maps and scanning them carefully. "Tomorrow, I will send someone to you with the maps of the royal forest." He turned to her, "Is there anything else?"

Alice stood, "Thank you for all your help Alden. Rest now and I will see you in the morning." With that said, Alice turned amd walked out of the room and down the hall. She reached her room with no guidance from light, just her heightened eyesight. Upon entering her room she checked for forced entry and for the tell-tale scent of intruders.

Alden heard another knock at his chamber door. Feeling weary, he once again opened it. "Sire, they're getting closer. They're moving in. I think it's time."
"Looks like she'll be with Aavard sooner than expected..." He waved the man away and began pulling books down from his shelves, hurrying to lay out the maps.
[OOC - Soon, I King Alden will have you flee to the front lines where Aavard is. Once you are there, we will move our RP to the war event with the rest.]

(Okay that works for me...so excited!)
Alice found a slight tell tale hint that someone had been in her room. She knew that she had scented it before and cross referenced it with her scent database in her head. It was Aarvards cousin...for now she would keep her suspicions to herself until she retrieved more tangible proof.
She tried as hard as she could to get some rest but she was full of restless energy. Alice then decided to pull her swords, armor and any other thing that she might need for her journey. Her armour was to be slightly different than anybody elses because she was a shapeshifter. She knew that her people were of the old blood as much as she tried to deny it. She also knew that her people could once change into a different form half were half human. They could also stand up right and still retain their mind without being ensared by the beast within. She was going to attempt such a change tonight.

Alden paced back and forth in the flickering light of the candles. His maps had been spread over every surface he could find. His sorcery had revealed that the vampires were pushing further and further into their territory. It would have to be at first light...
Alice would have to join Aavard and he would have to travel to Azure City and speak with the council on their behalf.
At first light... I hope she's ready for what is coming...

Alice shifted her body until it met her specifications. She truely was a creature to behold and to fear. She was still able to wear her armour that protected her human half but now she could protect her hybrid half as well. She wouldnt be so helpless to help Aarvard now and that was her ultimate goal. It was a contingency plan that no one could know about...not even Alden or Aarvard. She practiced fighting manuevers within the privacy of her room until the wee hours of the morning. A knock resounded on her door. Fighting to shift her form as quickly as possible she called out, "Who is it?"

He held the silver tray aloft which bore breakfast for two, maps tucked underneath.

 Alice replayed the conversation with her unexpected visitor as she packed her belongings. Be warned...there are traitors afoot and trouble abroad. You will need to guard Aarvard with your life. Here is a list of the guards that are the most trustworthy and completely loyal to Alden. They will soon be loyal to you and only you. Here is something that will help you and Aarvard out when the time comes. You will know when that time comes. Alice pulled out the jeweled dagger and the ring. She would wait to put the ring on her finger until she reached the front lines where she was safe with Aarvard. The dagger she added to her attire and made sure that she would only use it as a last resort. She gave some thoughts to her appearance. The people were so used to seeing her looking like royalty....she wanted to see how they would react to a woman dressed for battle. She would change her appearance slightly so they would recognize her but know that she was not a woman to be trifled with....at least if they didn't want death on their hands.
