Avery couldn't help feeling a little annoyed. Why did Rex have to keep talking about the transformations, when all Avery wanted to do was forget about them? "I don't know," he mumbled. "Where would I get hints? Nothing has happened to me," he said, but he didn't get his hopes up. He supposed it was only a matter of time, since he and Rex did arrive at the same time... so that must mean they were both injected at the same time as well.
"Well, I guess at least you got a cool animal. Just so long as you don't try to eat me or something. That would kind of suck." Avery hoped Rex really wouldn't get the urge to eat people. He wondered how transformations affected one's appetite.

Rex suddenly felt like he'd regret asking, the thought of chaning was just so exciting for him, but he was also a little messed up in that department of the brain. He sensed Avery's reservation in his body language, "Hints.. uhh.." Rex's jaw dropped in consideration, then he remembered his diet previous to changing. "Oh! I know. I was eating alot of meat before I changed... come to think of it... all of the food I've had one this island since the buildings reopened has been meat. I've only had a salad once or twice. Have you been eating funky?"
The thought of eating people was savage and ravenous. Would he ever get to the point of eating another human? Well.. he wasn't exactly human any more, but there'd always be a bit of humanity left in him... right? "I promise I won't eat yeh, bud." He patted Avery playfully on the lap and grabbed a pillow to lean on.

Avery tried to think of his behavior since he arrived on the island. No, he did't think he acted or ate any differently than usual. Well, other than not being exactly his normal hyper and happy self... but wasn't that to be expected, considering the circumstances? Who would be happy in a situation like this?
Well, other than Rex.
"I dunno... I don't feel any different. I don't think I've been eating differently, either. I still eat a lot of all kinds of foods... I'm not that picky," he shrugged. "So, I guess an animal that likes all kinds of food? I don't know any animal like that..."

Rex certainly was not an expert on these serums, injections, animals and science. Most of the things he'd said were drawn from his own conclusions, there wasn't much that he could say he knew as a fact. If this whole island thing had been going on for more than seven months (according to Amaya) without Rex hearing even a whisper of it, he began to doubt if anything could be called a 'fact' any more. Everything he'd known before seemed to become washed away with the tides.
"I don't know what to say... hrm..." The whole diet thing was the only hint that his mind could snag. Otherwise he was drawing blanks. "If you're feeling bold you could always call the labs and ask." He smiled, only partially joking, then shrugged a bit.

Avery grinned at Rex. That didn't seem like a bad idea at all to him. "Yeah... that's a good idea. I think I'll do that when I ask for them for clothes and stuff." Hell, if these guys were going to turn him into an animal, the least they could do was tell him what kind, right?
"Anyway... what kinds of things have you been doing? I'm getting really bored here, there's nothing to do... no clubs or anything like that." But then it dawned on him. It should almost be the end of March by now, right? Avery had lost track of time, but he had a vague idea of what day it was. "Isn't April Fools day almost here?" he grinned with a mischievous look in his eyes.

Rex's eyes widened at Avery's response. Was he really going to do that? He laughed audibly, "You're really going to do it aren't you? Good man, good man." He chuckled and clapped his hands twice lathargically.
"I actually haven't been doing much of anything lately, done alot of running. It's hard to keep in shape since I don't think that there's a gym around here of any kind. Then again, the island isn't terribly small, mayb- hopefully, I just missed it. It's hard to keep in shape without any equipment or much else." He motioned to his practially empty room, he really didn't have anything of value other than his ring and his necklace.
A fiendish smile stretched Rex's lips, "April Fools' Day, eh? I don't know whether to be excited or scared... Do you have any ideas in the works?"

"Of course! It's the least that they owe me if they're not going to give me a choice." Avery shrugged. "Besides, it can't hurt to ask. What are they gonna do, turn me into an animal? 'Cause they're already doing that," he grinned.
"Keeping in shape, huh? I dunno, you look pretty in shape to me. But maybe you could just request some exercise equipment? They could build a gym, or something. I think everyone would like that," he said. At least it would be something else to do here.
"I... might have a few ideas," he replied. "I'll need to get supplies though..." Oh yes, he planned to cause havok. "And I definitely need to pull a prank on our dear friend Billy."

He blushed a bit, "Thanks, I uh.. try?" He chuckled a bit, "It's a pretty big request, but it's not like Moreau doesn't have the money for it. I mean, what with the injections I imagine we're worth millions." He shrugged, picturing himself back on the mailand being prodded by government scientists. That wasn't a happy thought...
Rex chuckled evilly, "Another prank on our dear friend Billy? Ooh boy, I don't know what we can do to top the girl one. Have you seen him since we were in the cafeteria? How long do you think the prank'll last until he finds out."

Avery just laughed. "No, I haven't seen him again yet. But I gotta borrow some clothes from Awen or Em. I'm sure that'll keep the prank going even longer. Man, I can't believe even after groping my chest, he didn't realize..." he laughed again, shaking his head. "He is kinda creepy looking, but I can't help it - it's too funny not to keep the joke going."

"Holy cow, I know! You said that you weren't a 'lady' to his face. How oblivious can one guy be? He seems kind of... slimey... if that makes sense." Rex just laughed, resting his chin on the pillow, "There must be something wrong with the guy, he was pretty dumbstruck by you."

"Yes, I noticed he was a little in awe of me. But, I can't help being beautiful," Avery sighed very dramatically, as if it were a terrible burden. "It is a curse, really... people constantly swooning at my feet, begging me to accept their declarations of love. But no!" he said, lifting his hand up and placing the back of his hand against his forehead. "It is cruel for me to lead them on. I know this! But - it is part of the game, you see. I must lead them on, for how else will I see if their intentions are true? Sure, I may break a few hearts in the process. But it's just the process of elimination. If you cannot take the heart ache, then you should not be playing the game."
He shook his head sadly, as if he knew all about this (of course this, too, was just part of the little act he was putting on). "Billy, too, will learn the truth in time. But for now I must lead him on, because --" he paused, and then Avery just grinned, putting a stop to the act. "Well, because it's just pretty damn funny, really."

Rex listened to Avery's dramatics with intent, holding the laughter back as long as he could. However it all flooded from his mouth not long after he finished, "HAHAHA! Oh Avery, you're such a princess. But who knows? Maybe Billy is your true love!" Rex nearly keeled over in hysterics, the thought of Avery in a fluffy pink princess dress was too much to bare.
He continued with his vision, "I can see it now! You and Billy, standing at the altar preparing to say your vows. You, in a sporty tux, lookin' mighty sharp with your bowtie. And Billy in- in- IN-! BAHAHA!" Rex's sentence was interupted by another enourmous bout of laughter. He came to eventually, wiping tesars from his eyes, "A wedding dress, the bearded bride!"

Avery burst out laughing at the mental image of Billy in a white wedding dress. "Oh god, that's - hahaha - so funny but almost in a disturbing way," he managed to get out while he laughed at the thought. "Somehow I think he's the type that would show up piss drunk at a wedding," Avery said, still chuckling.
"Ahh... well... Rex, I think I should get going... I gotta try and get a hold of a doctor or someone on the intercom so I can ask for clothes and," he grinned, "some supplies." Avery stood up and stretched, then gave Rex a hug. "I'll see you later man," he said, and then he headed off out of Rex's duplex.

The Return of "Humans" Life on the island had been slowing down.
There was certainly a limited amount of things to do on the island, and Rex felt as if he'd done all of them. Still running everyday, he craved exercize. And with such wonderful air along with his copious amounts of free time lead to alot of pointless meandering about the island, rarely seeing anyone as of late.
Rex slowly wandered into the cafeteria, bringing a hungry belly and lonesome soul in with him. Hopefully he'd have better luck than before and actually see someone this time.
He thought about Avery... and Awen. Why had he been missing them do frequently?
Rex made his way to the food line and grabbed a roast beef sandwhich then sat down at a random table towards the center of the room. Once again, the place was empty.Zach no longer felt he had the option of walking into public spaces like the cafeteria any longer. What he did was more of a slinking motion around corners and through doors to get where he had to go, which did nothing to hide him from anyone's view. He could only wish it did.
His soreness was virtually gone, which was a relief. His horns were still not used to being knocked around, but he had no plans to use them anyhow. Shoes were part of his mental list of things he needed to deal with, so he continued to go in what appeared to have been sandals in a former life, or just barefoot, like today. He did his best to avoid any large amount of clicking and clacking as his claws hit the floor with every step. The tail wasn't cooperative when he tried to make it move (or stop moving), but it was the least of his many worries.
Still slinking, he found his way to the salad bar. He was about to make one but stopped, remembering the last time he'd done that. The aversion was instantaneous, and instead he picked up a steak. When he turned around, he spotted someone already there. He really needed to be more observant next time he went for lunch.
He'd been lucky to avoid most of his islander acquaintances from before his transformation, but as time wore on, he lost the edge. Would Rex recognize him? He certainly hoped not. He took a seat across from the lion-man, well aware that there was no way to put off the confusion forever. Billy was in an odd mood as he stormed into the cafeteria for lunch. Bobby was infuriating... but at least the Island had already taken it's revenge on her. She seemed unbothered by the extra nipples, but then again, he had grown used to his own tentacles... or at least what was left of them. Maybe not so much comfortable as refusing to think about them in a feigned sort of acceptance. They were there and there was nothing he could do about it. And the nub of his stub still hurt like hell. He supposed it would take a lot of alchohol for him to even think about an action like that again.
His nearly empty cafeteria strike seemed over, he realized, as he saw a few people already there, but ignored them as he picked up his tray. He moved along the line, tentacles tucked away as he reached the sushi bar, helping himself to the fish and mollusks he didn't seem to be tiring of any time soon.Rex had hunched over at the table with his back to the food bar, chewing his sandwich diligently. His overgrown canines only made things harder to eat, he'd gotten used to it over time though.
Since he wasn't facing the door, he didn't see Zach or Billy come into the cafeteria. Rex had been immersed in his his meal while staring off blankly into space. it wasn't until Zach sat down at his table did he snap out of his absent thinking.
Is that "Zach?" Rex said, trying to peer into the face of the islander across from him. This certainly wasn't the Zach that he'd known before! His horns were... actually there, unlike before. "How have ya been, bud?!" Rex exclaimed, tossing his hands up slightly. But... Rex couldn't help but feel like there was something that he'd been told about Zach. What was it?!Zach didn't notice Billy enter, or he would have panicked. He grimaced and leaned back a little in his chair. Despite all the oddities of his appearance as of late, his one arm would never fail to give him away.
"Yes... hey Rex. I've been..." There wasn't really a good word to describe it. He noticed the glances at his horns, but instead of saying anything, he grabbed his fork and speared his steak. "Different. How about you?" Once filled, Billy moved to find a seat. He was suddenly presented with a problem. Should he sit alone and safe from any fights that might result in his return, once again, to the lab for one reason or another, or make a risk and attempt to socialize. He spotted a tufted tail that seemed to vegually trigger a bit of recollection. Oh yes. The blonde lass's friend. What was his name? He was alright. There was some other chap with rediculous looking horns- he was nearly at the table befor recollection hit and a wet little one-armed man came to mind. "Ach, I know you-" He stopped at the end of the table, "Nice horns."Rex grinned widely since he hadn't seen anyone in quite some time, he didn't really care much about Zach's change, He was just plain happy to be around someone. "Different? Boy, I feel yeh." He scratched his scruffy chin, nearly a full blown beard had spread his cheecks. Shaving was just plain pointless as it grew back so quickly, Rex figured it was best just to get it grow.
Zach seemed aggrivated, how long ago had he changed? How was he taking it? Then he caught sight of Zach's brilliant yellow eyes and ruby red scales. What on earth...? He wouldn't bother him about it though, Rex had finally gotten it through his head that some people weren't taking to the changes as aptly as he was.
Rex's thoughts were interupted by the appearance of another man, Rex looked up from his plate to see tentacled hands holding a fish-filled plate. Oh my gosh, it's that sleeze... name... name... one phrase brought it back to his head on a silver platter, 'Billy the bearded bride'. Rex almost choked on lunch at the recollection of the last time he'd seen Avery. "Hey Billy!" Rex said enthusiastically, trying to hold back his laughter. "Wow.. I see that you've changed as well? Moreau must be on a rampage.""Have you seen Amaya lately?" he asked distractedly, attempting to make a conversation that was pointedly not about their changes. He avoided looking over at Rex, instead fidgeting the impaled fork around between his fingers.
Zach didn't bother with the fork for long. Having only the one hand, he quickly swapped with a knife and diced up his steak, then plucked one piece up with his claws. Meat. It only reminded him of some of his unresolved problems. Before Zach even managed to start on his meal, he looked over Rex's shoulder in time to see Billy approaching, and went pale under his sunburn-colored skin. That psychotic mess of a man was back?
"B-Billy?" he exclaimed in surprise as he stared up at the tentacled man. The piece of meat slipped from his fingers and bounced on his plate. "I-I- thanks...I think..." He felt himself tense up and attempt to shrink in his seat, in preparation for another attack from Billy. Billy sank into the seat beside Zach, placing his tray down in a friendly fashion, "Glad t'see th'company here at least is decent. There's some real piece o' works on this island, aint there?" He pointedly leaned on his elbow, a tentacle slipping between his buttons to feed himself a piece of raw fish in the habit he had grown comfortable with."Amaya?" Rex's heart pounded accented that particular beat at the time, he hadn't seen the girl in a while. "No, no I haven't." The last itme he'd seen her was at her parents grave... and he sung. He dtill didn't have any idea why he did that, it just kind of leaked out. I'm such an idiot. "Why? Is she alright?"
He chuckled once again, swallowing a big bite of his sandwich once again, his tail flicking gently out the back of the chair. "Most of the people I've met on the island have been really nice, but I know what you mean, Billy." He remembered when Zach went slightly insane after Rex's change, that was a bit odd. Antony was certainly a unique woman as well. Colche too... maybe there were more strange people here on the island than he thought. After carefully watching Billy for a minute to see if he'd make any strange movies, Zach turned to Rex, surprised at the amount of concern that the man was showing. "Oh, um, I guess she's all right. I don't know. The last time I saw her was with you. I was just... curious." Well, if anything had happened to that lizard girl recently, he knew he had nothing to do with it.
He took a piece of meat and forced himself to eat it. He didn't know what would happen if he tried salad or vegetables again. The predator had been quiet lately, very quiet, and it was reassuring to think maybe it wouldn't return at all. Too bad he had no idea what had sparked its presence in the first place.
Zach glanced at Billy, but didn't turn to the man. He had seen his share of those wriggling tentacles the last time they'd met. He was uneasy, especially in such proximity. "Yeah... but that wasn't enough variety for them." He invoked the doctors deliberately. After all, in addition to human, the three of them sitting at the table were respectively part lion, part octopus, or part overgrown lizard. He looked around for a badly disguised camera to stare down, but couldn't find one with his eyes. Billy continued eating, sitting back to watch them while idly chewing his sushi. He had no idea who or what they were talking about, ergo his attention wandered, staring at Rex's inhuman features as he tried to guess what he was becoming. Zach was a mystery to him- he didn't know that much about lizards beside the salamanders he'd find in his mum's garden when he was young. And then get beaten for bringing them into the house to keep as pets. Maybe a type of goat? He cocked his head to the side, still staring and deep in idle thought as he chewed his raw fish.Rex was still more puzzled than ever. And he just had "Billy, it's obvious that you're turning into some kind of... oc... to... pus.. thing." He spread out the syllables in thought, sizing up as much as he could from what Rex could see. He had been eating alot of sushi as well, and thankfully the changes had knocked some sense into the slimy man. Hey, what do you know! His change reflects his personality. Billy seemed to be behaving himself much more than last time, maybe because Avery the 'fine lass' wasn't around.
Rex continued with his thought, "But I have no idea what on earth your change is, Zach. Do you have any ideas?" Rex rattles his brain for anything scaley with horns, but his lack of animal knowledge continued to give him blanks.Zach's odd yellow eyes darted between Billy and Rex's curious stares. His tail stopped swishing and slowed to a stop. "I'm... um..." The easy answer was 'monster'. The more difficult one was what exactly he was made of specifically. He'd had no help with details from the mad doctor when he asked.
There is no way in hell Duvert was serious, though! he thought to himself as he wondered how to answer Rex's question. A dragon... even if it's just some freakish mix of DNA... that's just unbelievable.
Billy's sideways look made him nervous, but he was glad he hadn't been strangled by one of those tentacles yet. "I don't know what I am, really. A lizard of some kind... though the horns don't help my guesses." He paused before offering what he did know, his voice rising in panic as he went on. "There's probably a reason I don't look like any normal animal. I'm some kind of... of a mix. Not that it really makes that much sense to begin with. Duvert thinks I'll end up looking like a dragon, or something like that."
"At least both of you know what they're turning you into." He nervously flashed Billy a look of confusion. "Sort of...?" "I don' know fer sure, no' really... bu' things wit' tentacles aint too common, aye?" Billy snickered. "A dragon, eh? I'da' though' he'd make y'a sheep! I suppose he's tryin' t'improve yer agression problem, eh?""Well... I think that you could take the doctor's word for it couldn't y-" He paused, htinking over what he'd just said, "Yeaaah... never mind. They are a pretty untrustworthy bunch, aren't they?"
Rex continued to look Zach up and down from across the table, though caught himself staring and averted his gaze down to a drop of barbeque sauce splattered on his plate. "A dragon does make sense, though. What else could it be?" He took another bite, running possiblities through his head.
"The only big clue to my animal is my uh, tail." The tufted stalk twitched attentively at the mention of it's name. "I'm guessing a lion. I don't know what else has a tail like that.""No, not that many of those. I guess " he nodded to Billy. He smirked a little at the man's original guess. At least he would have known what he was. Aggression problem? He'd heard word traveled fast, but this was just absurd.
"I was scared. I had to ask..." He'd looked in the mirror and the horns had been the first thing to get to him. "You're right, maybe they are lying to me. And probably right about being a lion. I don't know of any other animal with a tail like that."
He frowned. "Only a matter of time before you'll find out for sure, huh?" Billy stared down at his now empty plate, a tentacle still out and exploring it's smooth empty surface befor tucking away again, "Well, gents, it's been lovely, bu' s'time fer me t'go." That said, he stood with his tray to saunter away towards the exit. Nice chaps. Single serving friends. Company while eating. It worked. Without waiting for them to say good bye, he deposited his tray in the appropriate place befor lurching towardsthe double doors. A nice long quiet smoke in his room, that's what he needed. Clear his head. Maybe he'd visit Pyroth later..."Time, heh, right." Rex chuckled, popping the last bite of his lunch in his fanged mouth. "Ever since I came here to the island, time doesn't even seem of significance anymore." Rex rolled the words around in his mouth, they bounced of his teeth and reverberated in his mind. He liked it here, Rex certainly wasn't complaining, though it was hard to adjust to the thought of never leaving. Ever.
Rex would've said goodbye to Billy, but he seemed to leave like he had a mission to do. Rex couldn't get a word in. Thankfully he seemed to have calmed down quite a bit more since the first time they'd met. "Bye Billy..." he mumbled, blatantly too late.
Rex pushed back in his seat, grabbed his plate and stood up, "I'm gonna head out as well, Zach m'man." He nodded to the man across the table and headed to the kitchen to clear his plate. From the door Rex projected, "now you know I'm always here if y'wanna talk." Rex smiled, something he hadn't done in quite some time, "Later, dude." and with that, he pushed the door out of his way and headed off to wherever his legs took him.

Amaya and a New Islander Rex Vadnais NEW RPRex wandered his way out of the cafeteria and slowly made his way towards his duplex. He wished that it could've been a bit... more like home, just that stupid call to the labs would hopefully make things all the better.
He examined the duplexes as usual, reading over the names on the doors once again. He'd grown to recognize several names, though more and more name plates began to appear on the duplex further down the way. Moreau had been busy taking lives.
Rex spotted two figures standing outside a duplex, one he didn't recognize, but another was the oh-too-familiar shade of green. "Amaaaayaaa!" He hollered, picking up to the jog so he could get to the lizard-girl he'd missed so much recently. Amaya Vaughan Amaya thought for a moment. "Theres the entertainment room. I've never been in there much, but I think they had a lot of different movies and videogames."
Though she was suddenly ripped from her train of thought as someone called her name. Green eyes scanned the area before she caught sight of the all too familiar man jogging towards her. "Rex!" Her somber expression turned right upside down, having missed the man she had grown so close to in such a short period. Alec Derring Alec jumped as he heard the holler, glancing over in the direction of the approaching character with a bewildered expression. "Friend o' yours?" He churred to Amaya, scanning over his overall look. Rex Vadnais Rex clashed with Amaya in a full clinging hug, squishing his cheeck upon her scaley head. "How have you been? I haven't seen you in ages." Rex's day just got a whole lot better.
Then Rex shifted his attention to the other man standing outside Amaya's duplex. "Well, you're new." Rex mumbled to himself, flashing a very toothy and fanged grin in the his direction. He extended a paw to shake the man's hand, "M'name's Rex." Amaya Vaughan "Yah!" The reptile squealed as she was lifted about and hugged. Grinning, she returned it enthusiastically. Wow, today was going very well. Hopefully it would stay that way.
"I've been alright, managing..." She trailed off and looked between the two, allowing them introductions. Alec Derring Alec looked distracted, shuffling off to the side when the two happily embraced in case he'd get booted or something in the process. When Rex offered a paw, it took the teen a few moments for the gesture to register as he glanced between Amaya and this new scruffy male. "Oh!" His hand shot out to accept the shake, not being used to such formal greetings. A social exchange between guys in the town he grew up in usually consisted of a few head-nods and a couple of "Aye"'s.
"Alec." He responded, smirking at his observation. "Ye, newbie. Shoulda leaped off th' fookin choppah when a' had a chance." He laughed at this and pulled his hand away quick, stuffing them self-consciously into his short pockets. Rex Vadnais Rex chuckled at Alec, crossing his arms tightly across his chest. At least this man seemed to be adjusting well, better than some of the others from what he could tell. "Helicopter? Well, at least you had that chance." A crooked grin creeped across Rex's lips, "I, uh, wasn't so lucky."
He stepped to the side and reached a claw around Amaya's waist protectively. "How long have you been here?" Amaya Vaughan Amaya fell to silence, allowing the two men to communicate. She allowed the older man to put his arm around her waist, for the third time that bad glad she wasn't able to blush. Though she still stayed in the middle off to the side, as to not make Alec feel awkward or uncomfortable since they obviously knew eachother better.
The man she had developed slight feelings for and the attractive guy she had just met standing on each side of her. Oh jeeze. Thankfully the iguana was good at burrying such thoughts and emotions. Alec Derring Alec spared him the retelling of a bad story, learning quick that curiousity was sometimes best left unpersued. "A' couple o' days?" He answered, stepping back to lean against the wall of Amaya's duplex. "S'not that bad a' guess. A' think all this weird shite hasn't sunk into me head yet, y'know what a' mean?" He laughed again, wondering if his nervousness was turning out to be obvious.
The punk teen fell silent for the moment. He kept his hands in his pockets as he slumped his shoulders, creating a look more indicative of an uncertain young boy than a brash, rowdy exterior. He took the opportunity to stare at the couple, the slight tufts of golden fur on Rex a sharp contrast to the sleek scales on the hairless Amaya. His hands had been awkward too, feeling leathery to the touch. The teen felt awkward, to say the least, a mental battle raging between whether it was inpolite to stare or rude to constantly avert his eyes. Rex Vadnais Rex rubbed Amaya's side affectionately before retracting his hand from the girl's green back. The pause in the conversation also gave Rex to size up the newcomer. Alec didn't appear as big as he had moments before, suddenly shrinking in size as he leaned against Amaya's duplex wall. He noticed Alec examinging the two of them as well. In an effort to make the obviously uncomfortable teen feel welcome, he continued the conversation where it dropped off suddenly.
"A few days? Well, uh, welcome to the ranks." Rex paused once more and rubbed his padded hand up and down his arm anxiously. "Things didn't really hit me until.. well, I reckon just before this happened." He swept his hands upward, motioning to the changes, tail flicking noticeably about behind him. Amaya Vaughan Amaya noticed his change in attitude once the lion man had come around. Knowing it well, she tried to bring up a subject that hopefully all of them could enjoy.
"Well, we were on our way to the entertainment room. You wanna tag along or did'ja just come from there?" She asked Rex, then glanced over at Alec. Alec Derring Alec nodded mutely as he listened to Rex, looking intrigued and attentive but clearly not himself. It was bad enough being lectured by a furred woman, befriending a reptile, he wasn't sure he could deal with all the anomalies the island was throwing at him all at once. His mind was on a railway to one big trainwreck sooner or later. The normally outgoing teen was becoming more and more a speck in the chaotic bigger picture.
"D'they got ping pong?" He smirked, getting up off the wall, determined to make a good impression now. He would cling to any social interaction he could get. Rex Vadnais Rex was glad Amaya picked up the conversation as well. "The entertainment room? Sure." He said, just coming from the cafeteria, but whatever. The only time he'd been in the entertainment room before was when he stumbled upon Awen. Oh, Awen... Rex only knew that she was alive thanks to Avery, but he missed his manta, his last memory of the girl in a fluster on the morning of his change.
Rex started to make his way towards the town hall with the other two, then made an attempt to ease Alec's question, "Ping pong? Gosh I haven't played that in so long. To tell you the truth, I don't know if they have a table or not. I doubt it." his attention had been afixed to a tv screen and a crying Avery last time he was in that room, Rex didn't recall seeing one though. Amaya Vaughan The girl started walking as well, her pace at some strange swagger as her tail moved from side to side behind her and her long toes curled a little with every step to keep from hitting the ground.
"I know they have videogames and movies though." She chimed in. Alec Derring Alec dragged his feet into motion to keep up with the two, pulling out a cigarette and beginning a furious rummage for the lighter in his shorts. "Ah well, i' figures." He smirked as the cig hung from his lips, now reduced to turning his pockets inside out.
"D'ye know what they're turnin' ye in'teh?" He looked up at the felinesque man as he fell in pace with him, finally able to successfully locate his lighter to put it to use. Rex Vadnais The tail flailed a bit at the recognition of the animal within him, Rex was glad that there was another person who appeared to be comfortable with the changes. Suddenly, he didn't feel so alone anymore.
"The animal? Ahh, I'm not exactly sure, but as this girl mentioned," he tossed his head in Amaya's direction, "we're guessing it's a lion." Rex slowed his pace slightly so the other's could keep up with his long strides, it was a problem he'd grown to ignore. "our only hint to the change is m'tail." The tufted stalk wiggled once more, partly on Rex's will, though mostly on it's own accord. Amaya Vaughan Amaya seemed to go into short bursts of silence, something that hadn't happened when she first arrived here. But recently she had been finding talking to much to be a hassle, something telling her that it was better to just stay quiet and not jump into other's conversation.
They got to the entertainment room, the lizard opening up the door awkwardly with her large hands. "Here we go." Alec Derring Alec skipped a step in his uneven strides, flicking Rex in the arm in a burst of excitement. "A' lion! Lion's are fookin amazin' man, fair job!" before he could ellbaorate further on his adoration for the lions he'd seen on tv as a child, he noticed they had reached the entertainment area. He skidded over to the doorway as the entrance to the room was reached, peeking over Rex's broad shoulders to peer inside. He gave a loud hoot when he noticed the xbox in particular. Rex Vadnais Rex held the door open over Amaya's head, chivalrously insisting for the others to enter the game room first. "After you..."
Rex's pent up excitement about his change suddenly exploded out of his mouth, "Oh gosh, I know! I'm really excited about my change as well." He fumbled over his words towards the end of his sentence, remembering Amaya's feelings about the changes. "Though it isn't all rainbows and butterflies. Changing hurts... alot." He followed the others into the entertainment room, chuckling inwardly at Alec's loud exclamation. Amaya Vaughan Amaya walked into the room and then blinked in surprise, green eyes trailing back to the lion. She had no idea he was so gungho about it.
"Well, nice to know your excited about it. Keeps things positive for ya." She wasn't really mad at him for not hating such a thing. If anything, she was glad he found positive in it. Alec Derring Alec sped forwards into the room, eyes passing right by the stack of books and magazines as if they were as useless as a haircomb to him. He instead made a sprint and flying-leap onto a nearby couch, making sure it was near the tv. He sprawled out further, uncaring of his muddy boots as he located a controller for the game console. "Ye, gotta make sure there's somethin else t'make this place suck more." He mumbled to Rex in reply of his "painful transformation" comment, turning the controller in his hands as he looked at it. Rex Vadnais Rex wanted to say "Yeah, I wouldn't want it any other way." to Amaya, though for some reason saying that seemed out of place to the tall man. He was glad that she wasn't defensive or angry at him for his opinoin on the oh-so-touchy situation on the island. "It's hard to explain my true feelings. Changing really... intrigues me... though I still think that what Moreau's doing s'wrong." There. It was out in the open for people to know. Rex liked the transformations. He'd learned that from pain came knowledge, and with knowledge came strength. "Why not make the best of what y've got to work with?"
Rex shrugged, slowly astarting to feel that it was okay to be different, even if others didn't agree with him. He approached the enthusiastic Alec with a wide grin, "You're a gamer?" he thwatted Alec's leg playfully and sat down on the couch next to him. Amaya Vaughan The teen let Alec shoot passed her, slowly making her way into the entertainment room.
"I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if the people he grabbed were volunteers. I try to make positive of it... but it's hard to find good in it after awhile." Amaya was probably refering to how far along she was. No hair, relying on sunlight to keep yourself going, eating nothing but veggitation, loosing your skin, and most importantly... the little things in your appearance that told you she came from her parents. Now she looked nothing like them.
The reptile walked over to the couch they were both sitting on and paused for a moment. How was she to sit on something that had a back? Slowly she climbed onto the arm of the chair and sat on it, her feet curling around on the cushions and her legs drawn to her chest a little. Her tail hung off the side, brushing the ground. Alec Derring Alec reluctantly slid his legs off the couch cushions, allowing for the lion man enough room to sit as well. "Not realleh." He mumbled and snickered, unable to recollect the last time he played one of these things.
He tried to withhold any more questions regarding the transformation, intentionally ostracizing himself from the conversation. He'd slipped quickly from an ever-curious mindframe to one of 'don't know, don't care' in a short amount of time, it seemed. Rex Vadnais "Mmm.." Rex hummed confirmingly to Amaya's statement. A new question arose in his mind, "Has anyone come to the island willingly? Like, knowing about the injections and stuff?' Froom what he could gather, everyone had wound up on the island one way or another, though the only one he could think of who actually really liked Moreau was Lauren.
He glanced back to Alec, making himself comfortable on the couch, "No? I played for my first time a few weeks ago. And basically... I got my butt kicked." Rex laughed and kicked his feet out in front of him. Amaya Vaughan "Not that I know of." Amaya responded as she reached down and picked up another Xbox controller from the floor. She had been a rather liesurly gamer, though from the looks of it that was shot out the window.
The bulky controller sat entirly in her palm. The only way she would ba able to play would if she tapped at the bottoms with her fingertips with it rested on her lap or something. Alec Derring "A' might have a chance then." Alec smirked, playing the innocent as he wondered what games they had to play in this place. He fidgetted to get more comfortable, ash falling from the cigarette he still held between his lips inconsiderately onto the cushions. Rex Vadnais "Might? More like 'do' " He tittered and ran a hand through his hair, it was so nice to see people once again. "So what have you done so far since yer arrival? And where have you been all week, Amaya?!"
The walls were lined with movies, games, magazines and books that Rex hadn't had a chance to look a yet. He came to his feet and approached the walls, skimming the extensive library with a clawed finger. "Sheesh, they have quite the collection here." Amaya Vaughan "Eh, y'know..." The girl shrugged. "Been staying in my room a lot." It was obvious what for. The situation with Alec had been a prime example of why she ended up camping out in her duplex.
Green eyes watched him go over the movies, a clawed hand setting the controller back down. She'd let them choose what they wanted to do. Alec Derring Alec frowned as Rex got up from the couch, wrinkling his nose at the stack of literary materials. "Books are f'ninnehs." He plainly uttered, the cig wiggling as he mumbled the speech. As he watched Amaya put the controller down out of the corner of his eye, he quickly did the same, figuring no one wanted to play anymore. Not like he cared much.
"A' nothin'. Playin' on me drums a smidge. Nice lil' gift a' got." He grinned as he mentioned his drumset amiably, besides the fact that they were a gift to continue the facade. "Meetin' people, that kinda stoof." Rex Vadnais For some reason, that response about books was expected. Rex hated to make superficial judgements, but alot of punkers weren't exactly literary majors. Rex was no genius either, though he figured books were helpful or enjoyable if you needed them.
"Oh, you got drums? From the labs, I assume." Rex was curious, he'd never actually learned to play an insturment before. He played the guitar a little, self taught, though he certainly wasn't any good. "the least the doctors try to do is make us feel comfortable here, though I think thats the least they can do. It's like they're trying to win us over. Though with as much as they give us, there certainly isn't much to do around here." Rex's scheduel had consisted of Sleeping, eating and running. not a whole lot more. Amaya Vaughan In all actuality, Amaya would have loved to play... she was just having doubts that she could anymore. Maybe a movie would be better?
"Your a drummer?" She looked over at Alec, non-existant eyebrows raising. Alec Derring Alec flashed a wild grin and tossed his controller onto the cushion, pausing only to readjust his cig. "Ye" He snickered, puffing out in pride of his "talent". It was rare to find people actually interested in what he spent his time doing. "From th' labs a' guess ye." He listened to Rex's comments on the staff's attempts to make the subjects comfortable, finding this as unpallatable as when Joli first discussed the matter. Rex Vadnais Rex wandered his way back around the couch and took his seat back up on the couch, trying to prod more from Alec's lack of detail. "Thats so cool. Did you play in a band back home?" Uh-oh, Rex thought, one thing he'd learned was to NOT bring up the mention of the mainland or home, especially around a new comer. Though Alec's accent was interesting, Rex save asking where he was from for later. Amaya Vaughan The lizard fell silent, resting her chin on her palms. Her long fingers curled into her palm as she watched both of them. For some reason, she was perfectly content to just sit and listen. Alec Derring Alec shrugged with an expression like he had tasted something horribly bitter. "Neh." He started slowly. Though he could easily lie and tell them he was some famous punk rocker star from the UK, he was a horrible liar. Too much of a conscience. "I was gettin' there though, was gonna be famous yanno." He picked at the fabric of the cushion, reaching over the side of the couch to put out his cigarette on the floor.
"And ye? Ye look like some macho guy. Bet ye woulda been some movie stah." He motioned to Rex with his spare hand as the other removed a drumstick from his pocket and began twirling it. Rex Vadnais Though Rex knew using the past tense in this situation was correct, it was hard to believe that their lives were basically over the minute they step foot on the island.
Rex's face turned a shade lighter than his red shirt, a white smile erupting from the blush. He laughed a little, unsure of how to react, "A macho guy, eh? Heh thanks! I think." Amaya Vaughan Amaya continued to watch and listen in silence. What would she have been if she hadn't come here?
Probably still an orphan at the orphanage. Then once she was out of school she'd get some dead-end job and live a normal, boring life...
Neither here nor there seemed really inviting. In both instances her life would end abruptly without really accomplishing anything. Alec Derring Alec snorted amusedly at Rex's reaction, wriggling around until he rose to a sitting position. "Ye well, a' better go practice. Who knows if a record guy'll be th'next on this island place." He laughed despite the stupidity of his statement, hopping up to a stand.
"I'll see ye guys around, ye?" Rex Vadnais Rex laughed, he preferred to ignore the fact that their life wasn't going to go anywhere at all. It's not like his mainland life was going anywhere either, what's the best thing that could've happened to him being a waiter?
"Have fun practicing, Alec. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that producer guy." he waved the boy off and turned to Amaya, smiling with his eyes. "You've been quiet..." Amaya Vaughan The teen was sucked from her own thoughts as Alec stood up. She smiled and gave a nod to him. "See ya around, come by if you ever wanna hang out."
Green eyes then went to Rex. "Yeah... I've been overall quiet around everyone." She forced a tiny smile. "Not much to talk about anymore."
Though of course, Amaya had no idea why she seemed to be talking less. It still hadn't occured to her that the iguana DNA would effect her personality in such a way.
"I'mma go grab something to eat." She stood up and leaned down to give the big guy a hug. "I'll see ya around." With a tiny, almost sad smile and turned and headed out of the entertainment room towards the cafeteria. Rex Vadnais "Ahh, alright. It was nice to see you again, I miss yeh." He followed her out the door, but split ways, going bakc to his duplex.
