Confused Insanity
We can either do that, or, for the sake of finishing the quest early, we can just have the wizard escape with the staff.

Of course, there could be some dire consequences that another quest will have to clean up after. A mini war with an army of goblins, headed by the evil and crazed wizard with the mysterious staff. Something that everyone could join.

There would be a sort of infestation of goblins world-wide until such a quest could be finished, which will complicate things for people who want to make unrelated quests.

So either way...

Okay an epic cross Cyrodiil goblin war, now that sounds like fun.

I can just picture it now: Goblins pouring up from the depths of the various caves, forts and ruins across Cyrodiil all massing together with this evil wizard at the helm. We could even have this army march on the Imperial City with the University being the wizards true goal. That could bring in people from other guilds such as the Fighters and Thieves given that their HQ is in the Imperial City to help. I can't think of a reason why people in the Dark Brotherhood would bother as they lose nothing if the goblins sack the city and the University.

That would also allow people in the guild who haven't had a chance to RP with each other a chance to.

I like this idea, I change my vote to allow the wizard to escape and for the quest to end "early."

So how about we have Neven and Mora discover that secret tunnel, but then get ambushed by the wizard as he makes his escape. Neven and Mora are somehow rendered unable to fight, possibly something to do with the staff. That way the others could find our unconscious bodies, thus bringing our group back together.

I definitely vote for leaving it open ended to lead to another quest, perhaps a very interesting one. I'm....kinda hesitant about the whole army of goblins taking on the imperial city, arcane university ect....for one it seems like it would be a very long quest, with alot of people, and it might last forever, and i'm not sure if we want to really permanently change Cyrodiil's history. Something that big would be mentioned in books and have possibly a permanent effect in unknown ways. But with that being said I would totally be for something like that on a smaller level, perhaps goblins trying to take over a small village or something?

Either way I think it opens the door to another good quest, so I am all for the evil conjurer escaping!

That being said, Nerevar, I wanted to mention that in the letter they got form the mage's guild it did not say anything about the evil conjurer, just that they mage's guild thought Marlones had possibly been kidnapped by goblins.

Well, the thing about changing Cyrodiil's history is that it's our Cyrodiil, and we can do things like that. However, I think the Goblin King would want to take over a smaller city, such as Kvatch (which is nearby and still recovering from the Oblivion Crisis.) So he had a bigger base of operations in a place that's more defensible. THEN the realm would be in quite a bit more trouble. I was thinking the quest should be Kvatch hiring anyone they could reach to help them out. And then have some options for the party. Do they want to sneak in and kill the evil wizard (or take him hostage or convince him to stop?) Or do they want to just kill the droves of goblins alongside the guards until there are none left and then hunt down the wizard?

And if you're worried about newcomers being confused about slight changes, there could be a recap sticky in the quest forums for them to read. In fact, it might help if we had a starting guide on the main page that has some step-by-step instructions (i.e. First, read up on the rules (link here) then create a character (link), then look at what's been going on (link)... etc.) It would have links to everything in order from just starting out to looking to make quest and join the crew. I think it would be less overwhelming than looking at the wall of guides in the Guild Information forum.

I could play the evil wizard as well as Marlones, because I think I have an idea for him. Unless you wanted to play him, Nerevar. You said you wanted to get the process started.

l like the idea of the Evil Wizard escaping (from new york) to start another quest for out little merry band of mages to go on. Though l think an all out war of goblins might take years (for the wizard) to pull off. As it stands now, the goblins are in tribes and he'd have to band them together in order to start it. And a single quest might not be able to do the war justice to the idea. An Event might be able to convey it better, that is if we go with it. But with all the planning we make to have it started, not everyone will want to participate in it or even be around to finish it. Just look on how long some of the simpler quests take to complete. We're looking at months of roleplaying for a single quest if all goes well and we have people post once or twice a week. Though we could see even longer if people have real life things come up (which l know will happen on my part - working 42 hours a week kinda sucks so l'd only be able to post a few times a week as it stands already).

Cl has a good point where it is our Cyrodiil and we can change the history according to our idea's. But if we change too much we'll have a lot of things for newcomers to read to be caught up with our own world. Best to keep it simple. l think the best thing would to have the quest have a part two instead of a war. lt's a great and awesome idea but will be extremely hard to pull off where everyone wants to do it.

I didn't think about it on that level, just got excited at the prospect of something large and grand. lol

O.o my bad it this line from the letter: "Attached to this memo you will find additional information and details..." That had me thinking that the rest of the information that's listed in the OP of the quest was actually information our OC's got.

I'll go and fix my post.

If you have ideas for the evil wizard then by all means you can have him. I only mention getting the process started so we could start wrapping the quest up.

This could brew for a while, and we can just say "NOTE: More goblins than usual everywhere for now"

We don't know how many goblins the Wizard has been able to control. We're just in ONE cave, and there has been some troubles with goblins in more than just that area. AND that cave hasn't been even near fully explored. There could be far more of them than any of our characters have anticipated. Remember, this Wizard may be crazy, but he's cunning and intelligent too.

Okay, I wrote up a post for the evil wizard. It's a long one. Unfortunately, as I was typing it up, the Internet where I work went down and isn't expected to be fixed today. I have access the the post on my phone but it's not letting me copy it right now. So unless something starts working again the post won't be up for another 3ish hours. figured it out

I applaud you for your last post! I loved reading it and found myself not only intrigued but amused. Very good job Confused Insanity! I imagine Eliya will desperately wish she had a camera.... not that such things exist in her world... oh well she will have to gleefully imprint it to memory. XD

A trickster he is xd An extremely mad, paranoid trickster. I think Sheogorath had a hand in creating his mind.

ROFLOL!!! Omg Confused that was too funny. Not only is Neven going to be super pissed about getting jumped, he's going to be even more surprised when he's finally woken up. Very good, very good indeed.
