Although the Blue seemed much calmer now, Gauden moved over when he lifted up onto his hind legs. That looked like the Blue wasn't meant for him, and Gauden wasn't entirely disappointed. He was an attractive dragon, with the wings like stars, but Gauden wasn't sure he could deal with the temper the Blue had shown upon Hatching. He glanced across the Sands at Melina. Was the Starsmith disappointed that she didn't have a dragon that looked like the night sky? Or was his temperament enough to offset the familiarity of his hide?
The trailing tail egg broke apart at its Clutchmates' insistance to reveal a Green. Gauden's interested stance sank slightly. Well, there were other eggs he had been interested in; just because the first had turned out to be a color unlikely for him didn't mean that another wouldn't reveal a color he could ride-- maybe even his dragon. So caught up in the Hatching now, Gauden forgot all about his father's future displeasure should he become a rider.

He was sceptical about the approach of the explosive blue. Real sceptical. It wouldn't be coming for him, would it? Although it seemed calm now that display of temper earlier had him right on edge, and the black-haired candidate tensed as the blue approached him. He wanted a dragon, of course he wanted a dragon and once it Impressed it would never hurt anyone but...
Oh, well, problem solved anyway: the blue chose somebody else. Letting out a slow breath, Zerivon looked over at the orbiting and tailing trail greens. The newly hatched little one seemed as amiable as her happy sister; he remembered a bit of an abrupt first encounter with the egg but it had seemed to like him by the time he took his hand off the shell... Hey, and why hadn't the orbiting green Impressed yet? She had to be getting tired and hungry, right? He knew it wasn't as urgent for normal dragons to Impress promptly as it was for atypes but this still seemed like a really long time to him; the first egg to hatch, but three other dragons had Impressed before her and she still didn't seem to be earnestly seeking her rider. Were they here at all? Would she suddenly realise they weren't and go between to die?
One of the dragons at the last hatching he'd stood for had done that. He still remembered her heartbroken scream, and the pain of knowing she'd chosen death over impressing him. Sure it was foolish to feel that way but he hadn't been able to help it and wouldn't be able to now if it happened again, especially as he already felt that he liked the silly little green so much. She was sweet and bubbly and wonderful, she deserved to find somebody to Impress to. She had to. She would... Right?

Unable to help himself, Ruven winced when some of the girls were cut in the fighting. He had been too busy worrying about the dragons to realize that some of his fellow candidates were also in danger. This time he ignored his doubts from before. Breaking his ranks shamelessly, he started towards the females. Perhaps this action was a bit out of line. Ruven did not care. What kind of gentleman did not intervene when ladies were in trouble? Peradan and Nawa. He was worried about the control freak girl from before the most – she was still in the middle of the scuffle! Fortunately, the green dragon seemed to finally get a grasp of what she was doing. She stopped and… defended Peradan? Did that mean she had Impressed? Well well. That made a lot of sense. The clouded green’s personality and Peradan’s suited each other. “Congratulations, Peradan!”
No longer concerned for Peradan, he turned his attention to Nawa. The woman did not appear to be too badly injured. That was good! It would have been a shame if she had to leave the Hatching to seek medical attention because other candidates’ dragons were a bit too feisty. “Are you alright?” he asked quietly. “Can you stand?” There were lacerations all over her leg. Walking on them could NOT have been pleasant. He offered her a hand to help her up. He’d let her lean on him the entire Hatching if it was necessary.
Chivalry aside, Ruven had a Hatching to pay attention to. While waiting for a response from his fellow, he turned his eyes to the blue from earlier. He was no longer raging and seemed to have completely calmed down. Good. Shortly afterwards he Impressed Navarre. He hadn't seen that particular candidate around much. Hopefully he would get to know him better as a weyrling?
The orbiting green was still orbiting around the other eggs. This time it was the tailing trail egg to hatch. Ahhh, another green! Ruven had not been expecting that. Who would she gravitate towards, he wondered?
-------------
Aeri was not sure whether or not to be disappointed or amused by the accidental “maulings”. Those two girls had been foolish enough to stand in the way of two fighting dragons, so they deserved what they got. However, no one seemed particularly shocked or scared by what happened to them. Their injuries were minor. One of them even Impressed! Aeri almost huffed as she spotted one of the boys heading over here. Clearing the clouded egg had not inflicted much damage to the minds of the candidates.
Aeri had been doing her best to ignore that detestable orbiting green. The explosive blue’s Impression did not impress her, either. However, when the tailing trail egg hatched, she paid attention. This particular green had attracted her interest during the Hatching. Aeri was very curious to see how her first few moments of life went.

Cetalese watched the Green hatchling jump as the trailing tail egg broke open to reveal another Green. Well, Ceta had never been much good at betting, but she was pleased to see that this dragonet was nicer than the last two. Though her face didn't betray her thoughts, she was privately glad the excitable Green at least briefly had someone with her who was a bit more steady. Despite the force she remembered from the trailing tail egg, the Green who emerged seemed to demonstrate more of the kindness that had come later in the Touching than that initial demand.
Cetalese relaxed slightly when the Blue made a small fuss about finding his rider, proving he had indeed Impressed and thus might be a bit less dangerous now, and risked removing her eyes from the two hatchlings and back to the other eggs, seeking signs of their hatching as well.

Narisa took a small step forward so she was no longer crowding anyone, since the possible fight was no longer coming their way. And as Peradan Impressed and the blue was scolded by their mother, Narisa watched as said blue walked off towards the male candidates. He seemed to be sulking yet perked up as he got closer. The third Impression was made and Narisa was happy the little blue had found his person. Now if only their curious and easily distacted green could find her person. Though she was providing much amusement, currently squeaking and chirping at one of her fellow clutchmates that was rocking and working to hatch still.

Eliza couldn't help but breath a slight sigh of relief as the green and blue both stopped fighting and seemed to impress..good maybe now things would get back on track and return to the earlier happiness. A second green made its way out of its egg and went to greet the still unimpressed first green. That little girl certainly didn't seem to be in much of a hurry to find hers..or maybe she'd already spotted them and was simply encouraging her siblings...either way she didn't seem all that stressed out so Eliza wasn't worrying to much.

Now apparently satisfied she'd spent enough time with her sister, the tailing trail green gave the orbiting green a friendly headbutt on the shoulder and turned to inspect the candidates. Almost immediately her eyes lit up vivid green and she sprinted across the hatching grounds!... And sprawled flat in the sand. Giving a trumpet that sounded decidedly amused she wriggled around in the hot sand, apparently using her moment of clumsiness to her advantage in getting the goo off herself. The orbiting green, apparently thinking this was a game, gave a trumpet of her own and bounced over to flop down by her sister: such fun!... Oh, but the tailing trail green was already leaving again. As the other dragonet raced away again the orbiting green flopped onto her side to watch, mimicking the other green's earlier actions despite that fact that she'd gone now.
The boisterous tailing trail dragonet didn't seem to notice that she'd left her sister in the dust, she was much to busy trying to go as fast as she possibly could on her way to the female candidates. Her feet got the better of her again soon however and she tumbled back down into the ground, her muzzle actually ploughing along in the sand a very short distance before she came to a full halt. Spreading out her wings and shaking her head, she gave another amused bugle and reached out for the mind that she already knew was there.
"Cetalese! Running is very difficult you know, but your Halith will get better at it! Meet me there by the meat, I will race you!"

Navarre watched in barely restrained worry as the hatchlings fought their way toward the females. He scanned the faces of the girls as they moved to get out of the way, trying to keep his sister in sight. He missed the green mauling Nawa by mistake. As he turned to see what had happened, he witnessed with a sense of sick horror as the green sliced through Peradan's thigh while trying to catch her brother. His heart fell even further as the little green let out a bellow to rival a full grown green's. Time seemed to freeze, and the young man could feel his heart pounding in his throat as they seemed close to tearing each other to threads, mere moments after the green had impressed too.
Time returned to normal as a mind-destroying roar from Brakiath broke the tension. Navarre reached up to cover his ears as the sound reverberated in his head for a few moments. The blue looked downtrodden and thoroughly beaten as he slunk away, finally headed toward the males. Since things had settled down, Navarre took the chance to look for Kytara once more, flashing her a warm and supportive smile. Perhaps that would be the peak of this hatching, and the rest of it would go a bit more smooth. Still, he felt a bit bad for the blue, after all, it had been the green who had started the fight.
"Oh Navarre Mine! I found you at last! Your Novath is ready to go now, we should go quickly before Nebulath eats all the best meat!"
He looked around in confusion, his eyes settling on the blue in front of him. Me? Of course you. Now hurry. I will be very testy if Nebulath eats all of the meat. He stood there in dumbstruck silence until Novath seemed to sigh and walked around behind the young man, nudging him forward. Suddenly he laughed as he dropped a hand onto Novath's head. "Alright Novath. I'm going."

Crossing his arms, Balt scoffed at the two greens in quiet amusement. The tailing trail dragonet wasn't very impressive at this age. Unlike some of his fellows, he had no worries about the orbiting green. He saw dilly-dallying greens before. They usually seemed absent minded to him. At first he thought the same of the orbiting green but after watching her frolic with her sister his opinion started to change. Quite relaxed, she clearly knew exactly where to find Her’s and seemed to be enjoying the hatching just as much as he did his first time on the sands. (Well, at least until he found himself dragonless.) Though she hadn’t left much of an impression on him at Touching the longer she hung around the more he liked her attitude. If only the luminous egg wasn’t there the girls would all be ringing their hands over that little green imp.
After the tailing trail dragonet Impressed Balt began to fidget. Too many greens, he was getting impatient. What about that burning egg? He thought for sure that egg would be the first to hatch. For all the impatience it showed at Touching it must be having trouble getting out of its shell, otherwise why was it still in there? Balt felt a faint flash of hope. Perhaps it was a silver! Then there was the rocky band egg. If it was so eager for attention, what was taking it so long? That egg was clearly a bronze or a brown so it had no excuse. If another green hatched next he might just lose his mind!

G'brel wasn't entirely surprised by the sudden appearance of F'ren's flit, but she did always have to marvel at how moody the little bugger was... "It's fine. Flits have off-days too." She waited for an answer to her question, but when she never actually received one she raised an eyebrow. Ok...? Well, the point was moot anyway, cause shortly after the first egg began to hatch. "Well, too late to place any more bets now. Let the Hatching begin!" Lifth watched the proceedings from above, glad that he wasn't having to deal with their nuisance of a flit as Toulonth currently was. He glanced over briefly and Sleeth came to take her place among the dragons, but she appeared too busy cheering on the unhatched eggs to really pay attention to her surroundings much. Unsurprising. ~*~*~*~*~ Tereth's eyes whirled a happy green as Eltimioth addressed him. Mine should be almost-- Ah, he is here.Indeed, S'ren was entering the Hatching Grounds shortly after E'lai had. He didn't have too much trouble locating his friend amidst the crowd and was quick to make his way over. "Time for another Hatching, it seems," he said to the other with a smile. "Let us find some seats then before the place is filled." They were able to find fairly decent seats, and not long after the first egg cracked open, revealing a rather adorable green. Judging from the way she circled cheerily around her batch-mates' eggs, she seemed to be a rather playful-- wait, why was she heading for the riders' section? Um... Oh good, her sibling hatching made her go back. Wow, quite a handsome little bronze there. While the two moved about on the Sands, S'ren found his gaze shifting to a recently familiar Candidate, Lena. would she walk away a dragonrider this Hatching? Well, there was no real way to tell just yet, as things had still only barely begun. Ah, first Impression was made by the bronze. There was never a more joyous moment in a rider's lifetime... Oh, wait, two more dragonets had hatched. Aaaaand now they were fighting. And heading towards the female Candidates. Shards. ~*~*~*~*~ S'koi was a bit late in arriving to the Hatching, but he had only missed the first two dragonets coming out of their eggs. By the time he sat down in the only available seat he could find, next to Akaya (after politely asking if the seat was taken of course), the blue and green dragonet were in a full-on fight with one another. A couple of the Candidates received minor injuries, but no one was seriously maimed in the cross-fire; mostly due to Brakiath announcing that enough was enough. At least the two fighting dragonets were able to find theirs, and it seemed that the bronze out on the Sands had also already Impressed. The other two greens appeared to be rather enjoying themselves as they played about. The sight made him rather nostalgic, actually. Did I play about with my sisters on my Hatching Day? Laith asked curiously, mildly puzzled as to the source of the nostalgia. He shook his head nearly imperceptibly. No, not in that manner at least. You were very reserved, but sweet. ... Well, until it had looked like one of her siblings might knock him over on his search for His. Then... not quite so sweet anymore. Still, you were the loveliest green on the Sands.I think you are biased, Mine. He couldn't help a faint smile. Does it matter? Oh, one of the two greens appeared to have Impressed, good. Why did the other not yet look for Hers though...? They'd have to keep an eye on her.

S’kor was spending some quiet time in his weyr when excitement from his dragon caught his attention. A moment later he heard the bronze start to hum in a way he remembered all too well from last time. “The eggs?” he asked, though he was already sure of the answer. Calmly he put his stuff away and went out to join Scarath. Scarath’s eyes whirled a happy green as he knelt for his rider. They are coming Mine. Soon they will find Theirs. Hatchings were happy occasions and there would be lots of food.
He pulled himself up on the neck ridges for the short hop to the Sands. “Go find a good place to watch Scarath.” S’kor moved quickly off the hot sands and up to the rider stands. Checking that Scarath had settled himself next to some other dragons, he noticed the bronze’s throat vibrating rapidly with his song of welcome. Well as it should. S’kor turned back to where the action was taking place. All the eggs looked to be rocking. Quickly enough it seemed that the first one hatched and out popped a green. He knew the others would be looking for a bronze or brown, but the hatchling was a live and chipper. Good enough for him; what wasn’t good, was she headed for the rider stands.
It will be alright Mine. Came the reassuring calm reply. S’kor shrugged and simply watched. There really wasn’t much he could do. It was up to the dragons. He had an ironic thought of his change in position from the last hatching; as it should be he felt the smugness in that thought from the bronze behind him. The second dragon to hatch was a healthy bronze, and S’kor nodded approval. It took awhile, but things started to sort themselves out. The bronze found his. Eventually that green would have to get around to it too.
Scarath crooned to the two fighting dragonets. They should focus on finding Theirs. S’kor hoped neither would hurt the other. He was scowling by the time the green Impressed and Brakiath had had enough. “Now they can get on with more important stuff and fight later.” He heard Scarath’s approval as first the green then blue found Theirs. Another green joined those on the sands and went in search of hers.
Optheli was getting ready for bed. The last glowbasket had just been closed when her green crooned excitedly. Mine Mine! The eggs are hatching! Dynith added her voice to the growing hum and alerted Ismay. Optheli cursed with a laugh as she flipped open the glowbasket again. So much for going to bed! She scrambled into her clothes and felt Ismay settle onto her shoulder; the green flit’s tail curled around her neck for a hold.
“Alright I’m coming, I’m coming!” She laughed. A new bunch of dragons would soon be joining the world. An exciting time. Dressed, the rider jogged quickly toward the hatching sands. Optheli waved Dynith on ahead of her. “Go find a good spot to watch.” Dynith settled in with some blues and greens. Looking down at the brightly lit sands she made an observation to her rider. There is so much light, none of them will be able to hide. You tried to hide from me, but I found you. ”Sweety, they won’t want to hide. It’s time for them to find their partner, just like you found me.” A short time later she passed the candidates waiting in their white robes. She gave an encouraging grin to the ones who met her eyes as she passed. Up in the stands, she bounced excitedly. Watching the rocking eggs and trying to guess which would break shell first. Oh! The first one out was a green.
Optheli was puzzled as the newly hatched green made toward the riders. She couldn’t Impress to a rider, could she? The young woman had never heard of a rider with two dragons. She giggled as a bronze hatched and the little green went to greet him. So cute! ‘Theli lightly stroked Ismay’s wings as the little flit hummed in her ear. She grinned foolishly as she watched the dragonets wandering around the sands. “Oh! Stop that! Stop that you hear!” Of course the dragonets would do as they pleased. It seemed one had Impressed and the gold finally put her foot down. She gave a happy sigh as the dragonets began to pair off.

Nawa had thought she was ready for this, that she was paying enough attention, that she was fast enough, but there wasn't quite enough room to maneuver amongst the girls, and she happened to be the unlucky one. She bit back a shocked cry when the green's claws cut her leg, and staggered further away to the best of her ability. She stared after the dragonet for a moment, almost in disbelief. How... Had that....had that really just happened? After that split second, though, the pain flared, and she looked down to assess the damage.
She almost wished she hadn't, because that was a lot of a blood. More than she'd ever seen period, let alone coming from her. Thudding back into a sit on the hot sand, Nawa blinked up at Ruven when he approached and asked after her. "I, um, I..." That was a good question, actually. Was she alright? Nawa took a deep breath to steady herself and focus. It was just blood, right? It wasn't like anything was broken, or anything especially important had been cut. "I-I'll be okay," she decided, trying valiantly to suck it up. "I just...need to stop it bleeding."
Common sense prevailed, and she tore her robe to tie off the cuts. Distantly, the Candidate was aware that she was a mess, and that for once, she didn't care. Finally, she accepted Ruven's offer of help standing, flinching at the feeling that followed. She was not going to cry. She not going to let anyone, this boy included, see her cry. Wait a second...
"Aren't you on the wrong side?" Nawa's lips twitched in the smallest of smiles. Under ordinary circumstances, she might have scolded and shooed him back to where he belonged, but he'd helped her, so it was slightly more acceptable. Still, probably not a good idea. "Thanks for the help, but you ought to get back over there before you get in trouble. I'll be alright."

Lilias moved to the back of the pack when the struggling hatchlings fought around her. She sighed with pleasure as the grumpy green found her and then protected hers. She inhaled quickly when it looked like the blue would continue his attack but the queen intervened and Lilias relaxed. The blue found his and her two biggest worries were then paired of and heading in the direction of the meat tables. Lilias smiled at the other girls and was happy that all the injuries were none fatal. She was sorry that Cetalese had been clawed by her own dragon but she was confident the pair would work it out together. Lilias viewed the other eggs and thought that with the possible exception of the gloomy void egg that there would be few problems now.

Allaxon had watched the green and blue with worry as they had slashed their way over to the girls. he fidgeted and winced as two of the girls were hurt, but understanding that there were no really serious injuries helped him. Then the blue was over among the boys and he chose Navarre. Allaxon was pleased with this for some reason, he didn't really know Navarre but was glad that the angry little blue had calmed down and found his. Allaxon wondered how many more dragons there were and he glanced into the sands to see how the spectators were taking all the violence. He hoped that Lilias wasn't hurt.

The swirling egg was moving yet again, and Hesian’s eyes left the wayward green to stare at the larger egg. A loud crack split the air as the egg itself split, and the boy gasped in surprised. He didn’t expect the noise of hatching eggs to be so dramatic, but he supposed the shells were rather thick and the dragons were probably rather enthusiastic to escape the confines of such a small space. Another crack shortly followed the first, splitting the egg, and Hesian gasped again at what the egg released. A bronze! Wasn’t it considered a good omen for a metallic to hatch so early? Hardly daring to look away from the newest hatchling, nevertheless the boy quickly looked to the left and right to try and catch the reactions of others. Oh, he wished he had found out more about Hatching customs before this whole thing had started!
Even though he was still covered in egg goo, it was obvious the bronze would be a handsome one. Swirling patterns graced his wings, which Hesian admired, and the Candidate’s grin widened once he saw the greeting between the green and the bronze. Handsome in both looks and personality, indeed! His grin quickly lessened, though, as the bronze started to walk towards the females. “What is it with the mixed up hatchlings? Green goin’ towards the riders, this litte guy headin’ for the girls!” He shifted with apprehension as his eyes followed the bronze, the unhatched eggs of the clutch momentarily forgotten. He’d been told that bronzes only Impressed males, but this one hadn’t expressed any interest in the male Candidates yet. Maybe one of the “girls” was hiding a secret?
He watched with some envy as the bronzes passed through the girls, nuzzling a select few. It’s not that he had any dreams of grandeur of Impressing this bronze, but it wasn’t fair that they got to do something cool like pet a baby bronze and he had to settle for the sidelines! It did seem, however, that he wasn’t going to Impress to any of the girls. Then why had he gone over there? Just to say hi? Hesian had never realized how much personality the dragons had even immediately after hatching, and the thought made him look to the remainder of the clutch with curiosity. What would these dragons be like?
Another crack echoed across the Sands, this time from the clouded egg. Hesian inspected it, his eyes straining to catch a hint of color between the cracks, but it was a no-go. Hrm, a small egg, so probably another green. The egg wiggled again, attracting the attention of the first green. As the orbiting green sat near the soon to hatch egg, Hesian remembered the bronze and quickly shifted his gaze to find the hatchling.
Ah, he was now with the male Candidates! The bronze had moved across the Sands while Hesian’s attentions had been directed elsewhere, and he waited with baited breath as the hatchling moved down the line. Maybe he’d even be able to touch him! A flash of disappointed ran through Hesian as the bronze paused and sat down in front of another boy. That was it, Impression had been made. But apparently not, because the hatchling was soon on his feet again and looking over more prospects. It didn’t look like anyone was going to fit the bill for this picky bronze!
Just as he was about to look over at the progress of the clouded egg, the bronze suddenly launched into action, running and bugling towards Hesian’s direction. He watched with quick confusion, wondering just what was happening. Was he about to get mauled? Should he move? The drat bronze had seemed so friendly! And then: There you are! I am your Ammonth, Hesian, we're going to have such a good time together! Will you feed me first though? I'm starving!
Oh. Oooohhhhhh. Hesian stared into those swirling blue eyes, slack-jawed, as the other consciousness brushed his for the first time. He knew something amazing had happened, at least judging from the blossoming feeling in his chest, and the prickling of tears at the corners of his eyes. For the first time in his life, Hesian was speechless. His throat was suddenly drier than the Sands themselves, and his trembling hands reached out to brush the nose of his new dragon. His new dragon. A croaky “WAT?” finally managed to escape from his still gaping mouth.
Ammonth nosed upwards into Hesian’s hand, snorting. He didn’t need to say anything, though, as Hesian could feel his hunger through their new bond as strongly as if it was their own. His expression turning to a grin, Hesian steered the bronze towards the feeding tables. He wasn’t sure if he could talk without croaking again, but Ammonth seemed content enough to do it all. Excellent! We are the first ones here. The best meat for the best dragon, you know.
Hesian fed the hatchling the best cuts of meat he could find, doing his best to remember his Candidate lessons about this crucial moment. His hands still felt numb, shifting through the bucket, and as he fed Ammonth another cut of meat the dragon said, You are quieter than you should be. Fun is to be had soon! Do you not trust me? Hesian smiled, and did his best to conjure up his voice once more. “Nononono, I know we will! It’s just…YOU! You’re amazing, and I feel like the luckiest guy alive right now. ”
That’s because you are.
