User ImageHollyhock startled at the warm body that bumped into her. "Stumble!? Stumble!? Is that you!?" She frantically nudged up against the Kimeti that had run into her, desperately trying to avoid losing her sister again...When she heard his voice, her face fell. "I...I'm sorry...wrong...Kimeti...," she said, faintly, and sagged into the water. "You, what was it you said?"

User ImageWhen the rains had started Shadow had thought to curl up in a cave, if she could find one, or maybe inside a hollowed out tree, anywhere to stay dry. The rains kept coming and coming she began to wonder if they would ever stop. Finally she decided she would be best finding higher ground and as she set out to find some she quickly found herself fighting to keep her head above water. Around her she could see and hear several other Kimeti and Kiokote along with the various small animals that tended to be around them. Maybe she could find someone to fight thru this with...

Rockface held steady against the current as he repeated himself for the badly-frightened doe. "My name is Rockface, miss, and I'm here to help you." Scanning the waters around them, he asked, "Who is it you're looking for? What do they look like?"

"Myyy sister, my sister, she's gone, she's gone...Stumbled!" Holly cried out and butted into Rockface again. "Have you seen her, haveyouhaveyouhaveyou? She's, she can't walk very well, and she's...I, I don't know what she looks like, but we're always together and I can't, I don't know what to do, without her to be my eyes!"

Rockface frowned. Incredulously, he began to ask, "Don't know what...?" He turned to look at the doe again - and saw her milky white eyes. Oh, that would explain it. Gently, he said, "My apologies, I didn't realize."

Leaning closer, providing a solid support, he added, "I can be your eyes, for now." He looked over the doe's colors and patterns as best he could through the floodwater, trying to imagine what her sister could look like. Rockface asked, "Your sister will answer to Stumble?"

"Not the same, not the same at all," Holly said, though she still leaned heavily against him, shoulder-to-shoulder. "Stumble, or...or...Stumble...or...her given name, it's Bowlegged." She suddenly swam off again. "Come oooon, take me to my siiiiiiister, Rocknose!"

Charm paddled steadily on, pressing through the slowing waters, intent on reuniting with her brother. She gave a quick shoulder nudge to the foal nearest her, who was slowing with fatigue and the sluggishness left behind when adrenaline and fear dissipate. "Come, youngling, lie across my back if you can't swim anymore. We've got only a little further to go." If she couldn't reach Of the Night with the line of Kimeti in tow, she would see them to safety and retrieve her brother alone. Surely he was nigh on frantic at this point, having been away from her.

Night was in fact having much fun, playing "bob-and-buck" with his little filly. He would drop down from her, under the water, then buck, his back pushing her into the air, where she squealed and giggled in delight. "Tell me, littles, can you see a brown and teal doe when you fly like a songbird? If you can, call her name, Lucky Charm. She'll come to meet you, too, and we can all find someplace to rest this evening." The doe confirmed, and when she finally caught sight of the doe he described, she yelled loudly across the swamp, "Lucky Charm~!!! We're over here~!!" before giggling madly again as she splashed down and Night pretended a grievous injury. It was nice, this taking care of someone, he thought. Perhaps he would do this more often. Maybe he'd even take care of Charm, if she let him.

Take Flight swam silently behind Peregrine. He didn't want to seem like he was worrying too much about King, so that he could help the buck find higher ground, but King was still at the back of his mind. Take Flight paddled faster to match Peregrine's, "How much farther do you think it is..? Are we even going the right way?" Take Flight looked at the buck, confused as the buck commanded the eaglehound to look for his crane. "No, it's alright. You're right. King, can fly, so he must be okay. I don't think it would be safe for Triage to separate from us right now."

Take Flight watched as Triage swam the other way, looking very concerned and sighed. If anything happened to Triage it would be all his fault.

Fall For You had settled in the branches beside her head and he ruffled wet feathers while whistling a soft, sad song. Be Mine listened and tried to block out the sounds of distress and chaos all around her. It was a failed attempt and her gaze kept moving back to the waters. Some part of her was certain her family must be safe. The young foal could not even begin to comprehend a world without them in it.

Be Mine was watching when another Kimeti came into view through the flood water, and she held her breath until the adult female had pulled herself up to safety. She tried to move and push herself upright to get a better view but the dead branches supporting her shifted and creaked in warning so she relaxed back again before they decided to give way and send her tumbling to her demise. There was no need to move anyway as the pale doe raced up to Be Mine's end off the tree.

“… Yes, I think so.” She replied with wide eyes. “Are you alright?” Be Mine gave her a wobbly smile; feeling all the much better to have an adult there. Eeverything would be okay now right?

Rockface had just taken a deep breath in preparation to call Bowlegged's name when the blind doe launched herself from his side. He choked on his surprise and swam after her. He said to her, perhaps a little tersely, "I'm working on it! Please, for your own safety, stay close!" When he was nearer the black and white doe again, he took another deep breath and gave a holler -
"BOWLEGGEEEED!"
His voice traveled across the tumult of the flood better than hers had, but not by as much as he would have hoped.

Still, he was helping reunite these lost siblings, even if the one he was with apparently had the patience of a gnat. However, he was willing to blame that on the sheer, blind panic (oh, nice one, Rockface, he thought sarcastically) brought on by disaster. It had to be all the worse for not being able to see... though, at least she did not have to look at the bodies.

User Image The Swamp really liked to kick a kimeti when they were down. Like reality, the waves hit her hard in unrelenting torrents. The mechanisms that kept her hair neat were washed away and what little she could see, was all overshadowed by that pink hair. Distantly she heard her name called. She floundered. She kicked, her tail swooshed. She managed to swim in circles but what's the use if you can't see where you're going. Perhaps the Swamp had a sense of humor as she was spared an intimate meeting with an errant cypress. Suddenly, she saw more pink in her vision. Look-See kicked suddenly, realizing another entity was nearby. It wasn't Doom or Gloom. No, stranger danger. She tried to push away but swam straight into a branch, failing to untangle herself as it dragged her deeper into the water. She screamed again.

Without allowing Take Flight to realize, Peregrine rejoiced under his breath, chanting "praise fate." Although he was willing to help Take Flight, because he could empathize; Peregrine was much happier to make his way to higher ground. King would be fine, his wings would make sure of it. Turning to look at Take Flight, he said "I was just on higher ground; it's not much farther this way." Diverging from his course once more, Peregrine moved closer to Triage. "No more, my friend. Follow."

Peregrine spoke simple commands that had a great effect on Triage, who followed his master, paddling sloppily in the water.

User ImageUser Image"Too far away." Stardust tells Skystain. "And too much energy lost to catch them up. We'd be better off going with the flow." Stardust turns as he speaks, starting to swim with the current instead of against it. The mongoose still clings to his horns, terror keeping him on his high 'ground'. With a sigh Skystain follows, normally she isn't too social but in a situation like this there is no normal. "What do we do?" she asks her friend. Stardust just grunts and keeps swimming.

After a near death brush with a log Stardust steers out of the main stream, closer to what amounts for a bank in this chaos. "Keep watch for roots and such. I'd imagine there'll be more here then in the strongest current." Skystain nods and both Kimeti attempt to watch all sides as they move. The going is much faster, though, and they cover twice as much ground - so to speak - as they had in their up-current battle.

Eventually Skystain stops, having found a tangle of half submerged logs and tree roots. "Stop for a while, rest." she says and they all pile on. She leaves Stardust to try and find a way to climb up, thinking there may be true land there some where, and takes stock of everything. Skystain's first concern are pets, counting her's and tossing Stardust's rescue in too. Next she casts her eyes out, looking for Kimeti and the not-Kimeti she's herd of - the name of them escapes her right now. She sees no one, well none alive anyway.

Skystain is just ready to turn away, the dead adults do not bother her so much - everyone dies eventually - it is the younger bodies and even half grown egg sacs that depress her. Adults, at least, were able to live some bit of a life. She stops, though, uncertian if she sees what she thinks she sees. "Stardust?" she calls, "Stardust. Come look." When he comes to stand beside her Skystain points with her snout. "What do you think. Living Kimeti or ghost?" The doe walking past certainly could be a ghost, a pearly white with streaks of the palest colors.

"Living." Stardust answers and makes no other explanation. "HEY! YOU! DOE!" he shouts, hoping she is close enough to hear over the still roaring water. "JOIN US THERE IS A PERCH HERE!" Skystain adds in. To be sure, though Skystain turns to Hunter and speaks a simple command. "Herd the doe here." As soon as it is out the eaglehound is leaping into the water and paddling swiftly to the white doe.

Swimming he is not built for, but Skystain trained him well and he moves as swiftly through the water as he can. When he reaches the doe Hunter lets out a short yip, followed by a nudge of his nose to her flank. Then he circles the does, nudging her other flank, trying to get her to turn toward his master.

Seven little, eight little, nine little foxbuns, all up here in this tree with me!” Giggles followed this little ditty. “Though up here isn’t really this far up anymore, is it? Harder to fall out of the tree and snap your neck. Instead you just drown.” Brown and gray water swirled restlessly mere feet below their sturdy branch. Nocturne and her posse certainly made an odd image – the strange kimeti lounging on the wide branch with a group of bedraggled shivering foxbuns all over her. She’d been fishing them up all day, since the water rushed into her part of the swamp.

“I have finally learned to fish. Fishing for foxbuns!”
Nocturne chortled. She perked up, seeing something purple floating towards their tree. “Oh hello- nevermind, you’re dead. I can’t very well talk to you if you’re dead, can I? When you decide to try not being dead, I’ll be here to talk!” she called to the corpse as it passed. “Goodbye I suppose. Well little foxbuns, I wonder if we are the only lives in the swamp now. That would be unlikely. But I haven’t seen anything living in quite a while. And then there are those other creatures, the ones like kimeti but not, that keep floating by.”

Nocturne quieted down, humming as she contemplated life. The waters underneath had been slowly rising for quite some time – she would have to find somewhere else if it kept up.
“Quite likely, this tree will give up first. You, mister tree, have been creaking quite ominously for some time. Little foxbuns, I hope some of you can swim. I do not believe I can carry all of you. You are all very cute and I hope you will live. It is dubious at best however. I doubt you can swim, and with the waters many of you will drown quickly and be eaten by alligators and other predators.”

The little creatures huddled piteously around the doe, whimpering occasionally. Not the brightest of animals, they paid no heed to the doe’s ramblings and pressed closer for warmth. Nocturne sighed and resumed looking for other life.

“Hello? Hellooooo? Is anyone else alive?”

User ImageUser ImageDrowned Rat and Shard had left their den, abandoned it in search of higher ground, when the rains had not stopped after several days. Unknowingly they had walked right into the worst place to be. By the time the siblings had understood what the wall of water really was - both thought it to be a hallucination - it was already crashing down on them. Both Kimeti, being of a larger build then typical, stood out a bit longer. In then end, though, they were swept away like all the rest. Really the only advantage they had was the fact they swam pretty much all the time. Holding their breath, too, is something both had lots of practice in. Both of these came from their favorite food and past time, fishing.

When the wave hit theit pet mongooses, Jitters and Twitch, had fled. Shard was anxious over them, but Rat said they'd be able to take care of themselves. They argued for long minutes about this, Shard wanting to chase after the mongooses. Rat refused, and in the end his loyalty to his sister won out over anything.

Instead they did their best to travel North, against the current, and look for those needing help. For a long time all either saw was the dead. Adults. Younglings. Egg sacs. Kimeti. Kiokote. Animals. And lots, lots and lots, of destruction. "What's the point?" Rat had asked, despair in her voice as yet another drowned youngling floated past. "All dead, none left to save." she whispered.

Shard just gave her a quick nuzzle and swam on. He, too, was feeling despair. So much loss. Everything and everyone. Gone or homeless. Nothing left. Why bother indeed? After some time he spoke. "There may be some alive still. If we do not search they may not live at all." As he spoke Shard continued taking in the scene. Movement caught his eye, and he changed course. "This way Rat." he called.

There, in a tangle of vines and logs, was a colt. Alive, and.. not exactly well. But alive. Rat increased her pace, trying to beat Shard to this little wonder. She does, but no sooner has she nuzzled to small one and started whispering comforting nonsense to him does she realize he's trapped. The vines have tangled him up as surly as the trees and neither Rat or Shard can figure how he was spared from drowning.

Quickly they start to chew through the vines, a task made as hard by the tough plant fibers as the constantly moving water. By the time the last of them are gone both adults are panting. There they stop, hooking legs over logs to rest a while. "All free now, little one." Rat says. She wonders if Shard will be content to stay here, with this one he saved. But Rat knows her brother well, he'll want to be off to find more to help once rested enough to get anywhere. The youngling is free and this perch is as safe as anywhere else in this mess. Soon it will be time to move on.

Rat's though proves to be right. No sooner had the duo caught their breath then Shard nods to the little one and swims off. "Stay here. Someone will find you." She says, hating to abandon him but knowing she wouldn't - willingly - leave Shard. They continue through the water, eyes too focused on the 'ground' level to pay attention to trees. After all Kimeti in trees were safer. Less needing of help then those in the water, or worse, trapped.
