Luce's tail thumped happily against Riley's arms. She liked being cuddled!

Malodore, meanwhile, nodded back to Christof. "This will likely hurt," it said, its tone slightly apologetic - but not too much. The plague doctor was in full-on Efficient Bedside Manner mode now as it threaded its needle and picked up one of Christof's arms. Best to try and assemble the individual limbs before replacing them on the main body... fingers connected...

Malodore had all the charms of a real doctor, and its words reassured her somewhat; besides, nobody else was appearing... Which meant that somehow, the students in Candy Cane Lane must have escaped the dragon and were safe. Amrita was safe. She heaved a sigh of relief, closing her eyes.

Barth hadn't been aiming for anyone in particular, but he was having trouble distinguishing if he was hearing a voice or not. It was like a not-sound. He heard it, but it didn't bounce properly off other objects.

Then again, he wasn't in very discerning shape.

"No problem," he croaked, then added more importantly, "don't let anyone get me off this cot."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:39 pm

Christof made a whining grunt of acknowledgment, wriggling in the cot to try to at least somewhat sit up. It was a difficult task, all things considered, and so he settled for laying low for now to watch the bird-like creature quickly work it's magic.

The movements reminded the hunchback of home, far away thoughts almost forgotten in the excitement of his new school. His creator and those crafty, shadowy hands... Mal's glinted like knives, all carefully and meticulously controlled. The patchworked boil was not familiar with creatures like this Doctor, his mismatched eyes twitching from hoof to tail to try to comprehend it all. What was under the bandages? Was the beak part of his face or a mask? What was with the awful hat? More importantly... what was it? Boil or Ghoul? The hips were far too gaunt to really tell, and to accommodate for those cloven feet, who knew what other evolutionary traits hips like that would need to take. That was no way to tell. Skeletal frame meant skeletal ribcage, with who knew how little flesh.... no, certainly not good for Parts. But those hands- they were far more skilled than his own, that was for certain.

It took time - and a great deal of thread - but eventually Malodore had a complete right arm assembled. "This bit will definitely sting," it said, holding the arm up to its socket with effort as it prepared the needle with its free hand. "Once your limbs are properly assembled, I will use my bell on your behalf. That should make you more comfortable."

With that, it steadied itself and began...
PostPosted: Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:48 pm

After clenched teeth, a stern look and an affirmative nod, the arm was back in place and THAT WAS NOT HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FEEL. Usually when reattaching an unfortunately lost limb, something he was frankly PROUD of his track record being fairly small before this horrendous affair*, it just came accompanied by a tingling sense of relief once everything was back in place again. It was not supposed to feel like stitches burning over slowly pins-and-needles electric erupting nerve endings all struggling between dead and alive.

Determined to man it through, Christof's freshly attached arm clenched it's hand into a fist to punch the cot in agony, eyes clenched to try to fight back the tears. You're not supposed to want to CRY from it, dammit!

After a few moments, things settled down, all slowly trying to figure out which way for the blood to flow, and he flexed his fingers experimentally. Well, at least it had worked.

* Footnote: Losing limbs is NOT something any self-respecting patchwork being would ever be proud of.

Jamais listened to the hustle and bustle around her for a while before finding herself slowly drifting off into something akin of sleep. While it wasn't quite restful it was something better than focusing on aches and pains.

((afk for the night))

Malodore sighed in relief when the patchwork's reattached arm seemed to function properly. It was a good thing it always came very, very prepared...

"Let us continue," it said, nodding to Christof as it resumed work...

((AFKing for the night, assume Malodore is just finishing patching up Christof here~))

Riley decided to settle back down on her cot, despite feeling better - a little rest couldn't hurt. She placed Luce in a comfortable spot cuddled against her body, and her eyes watched Malodore put Christof back together. She was briefly reminded of Junko's stitchwork when she was helping Riley make her costume, but Malodore's movements seemed somehow smoother, more practiced. There was something hypnotizing about it, and she watched it until she slowly started drifting off to sleep. She felt warm and fuzzy - despite that, she managed to fall asleep.

"I... I have a couple of rings left," Alwine managed to say. "I'm a ghost, I'm-- I'm okay... please allow me to ring my bell for your patients."

She looked in particular at Christof. He was trying to be so brave, but it was obvious that he could barely stand it. The doctor had said that-- ah, it? That it would use a bell on him, but could he wait that long?

Christof sat quietly, or at least as quietly as he could as Malodore set to work reassembling his legs. He had more faith that the Doctor would put things in better order than the Dragon had, at least. His arm was still tingling, but at least he wasn't completely crippled now. Growing antsy, and exhausted, he pulled his Bell out of his pocket. There were others laying around that needed help as well, and he felt guilty for being so... useless. When he spotted Lizzy laying quietly, pained in her cot, panic bubbled up in his throat. Where were their other friends? Was Amrita alright? Poor little Amrita! The ghoul had been terrified on her own! But not being here meant that she was still alright, right? He sure hoped so. Trembling, and hoping the spider-ghoul would be able to tell him more about their lost friends, he gave a shaking ring of his Bell in her direction. See? He could still be useful, even in pieces!

(2 Rings Left I think?)

Well, that did it. Even though he was in so much pain himself, the boil had healed someone who needed it even more.

"I'm sorry for being so bold, but I think that was very noble of you. I'm sorry, doctor, but he needs to be healed sooner rather than later. Please forgive me."

Alwine reached out a gloved hand and clasped it over her bell. Its pretty melody filled the air of the Infirmary, healing Christof. She hoped it didn't impede the doctor's work.

Malodore was, in fact, almost done - just a few stitches left. It nodded its tired thanks to the ghoul, and then turned back to its work, hoping the additional well-being in Christof's form wouldn't make the last bits of work hurt more.

At last, it was done. Malodore sat back and shook out its cramping fingers, cracking its knuckles. "How does that feel?" it asked Christof, shaking its head to refocus itself on something besides needles and suturing.

The healing didn't make the pain worse, on the contrary, the jingling returning the fear into the hunchbacked boil made him sigh as feeling rushed through his toes and knees and finally he was able to sit up properly. He still felt worse for wear, ready to be careful until they returned to Halloween town. He admired Malodore's stitchwork, all even and small. His eyes traveled back up to the Doctor, face wrought with trepidation on how to repay him, before realizing where the rings had come from and gave Alwine a thanking nod as well. He still had two rings left, he could still be helpful... he felt awful himself, but it would be selfish to use them when he wasn't planning on going anywhere any time soon.

A soft snore brought his attention to the cot across from him... Barth. Crispy around the edges all the way to unconsciousness. Well, if he thought he'd get out of things that easily, he had another thing coming. He was marked as the Demon's- that meant he had to look out for him, right? Right. He gave a pointed ring in the Sloth Demon's direction, if only out of spiteful loyalty. See if he can still nap when conscious enough to feel the burn.

"Good," Malodore said, with some relief; it had actually never reassembled a patchwork before. At least not to that extent. Its supplies of suture thread were all but exhausted; if Christof had had any extra limbs they would have been out of luck.

Hopefully, its handiwork would stand up to inspection later.

The plague doctor stretched, cracking its joints. It had two uses of its own bell left, it estimated... "Who else requires aid? I can provide some small comfort," it called out.
