"Adam...please," Alice begged, "can we just do this later? Think of Bella. Think where she might be right now. Think of what he might be doing to her..." Of course Adam was thinking about that, so he only raised a serious brow as if to say: ' Like I don't know.'

Perhaps he took too long to gather his thoughts, or come up with a proper wording; but, when Alice started to verbally explode beside him Adam's eyes almost bulged out of his sockets in surprise. Listening in silence, an anger of his own began to blossom within his chest as she kept going on and on about how she must be the only one who cares about Bella. The only one putting her dignity on the line? She needed to hear what he had to say, and her own mouth was proving it more and more. Her own tongue digging a grave for itself.

In knowing how his anger tended to get the best of him, Adam crossed his arms and purposefully clamped his teeth down on his bottom lip to keep from talking until Alice gave him the opportunity to reply. Seeing tears beginning to form in Alice's eyes, the unspoken desire to be comforted that invoked his inner desire to protect emerged and Adam walked a few steps backwards. Alice probably did not want to be held right now, at least, not by him.

"
Are you done now?" Adam asked before moving his body a few inches so that he was no longer leaning against the fence. Sitting on the sidewalk directly in front of Alice, Adam adjusted his legs to sit indian style and pinned his eyes on her face.

"
I'm glad you got all that off your chest; but you need to understand something. Your not the only one who gave up their dignity to cover your boyfriend's gambling problem." Adam narrowed his eyelids and leaned in closer to Alice.

"
Right after high school, back when me and Cailen used to live close by; you remember that? Well I was at Cailen's house borrowing his dvr to watch the game when I heard a voice on his answering machine. Some guy, wanting money." Adam purposefully left out the specifics of that phone call; only that it was not his sister the man had been after in exchange for the money.

"
Cailen was in denial about the situation; thinking he would win back the money, but come-on...We know better..." He shot Alice a knowing glance.

"
So I took a job to earn money, hoping it would only be a one-time thing, and it wasn't. Cailen got into more trouble a few months down the road, and I had to do it again...and again...and again...Until finally, I'm the guy being stalked in Macy's department store for starring in triple-x films. I've already lost my self-respect...So let me get the money." Deep down Adam didn't think Alice would be okay with that option, so he clamped his eyes shut and shook his head ever-so-slightly before adding another comment to that.

"
If you can...do that job, with me watching every show, I'll drive you there right now.", Adam half closed one eye from the sixth sense that he was going to be smacked in the face at the suggestion. She had to know the price she was paying to save Bella, or at least the risk she was going to face working a pole. After all, he ran the risk of being accidentally seen online or on rare pay-per-view channels every day. There was a lot of guilt and condemnation associated with the things he had felt forced to do for the wellbeing of his loved ones; but, to clearify his true reasoning behind it Adam added:

"
Regardless of how well those 'body-guards', Harrison probably fooled you with, handle roudy customers; they tend to do a better job if they think a dancer's 'boyfriend' is in the audience...I really don't want to have to explain this to Cailen...", Adam raised his eyebrows; still anticipating the arrival of that smack to the face or another angered outburst to burst from Alice's pretty mouth. ' Its not like I havn't seen you naked before anyway...'

Cailen looked over at Adam when he heard him say his name. I never said you were an idiot, he thought bitterly. Cailen felt a stab when he heard Adam say that he was going to get him money. Adam sure knew what to say to make Cailen feel worthless. He remembered all the times that Adam bailed him out before, and here he had to do it again. It kind of amazed him that Adam didn’t pound him when he heard the amount he owed now. He didn’t like having to resort to friends giving him money, but at this point he knew he couldn’t get all that money by himself. Cailen watched as Alice left the group. He wondered what she could be doing, who she was talking to. Then she came back and said she needed a ride from Adam. Confusion spread across Cailen’s face when he heard her say that. Where did she need to go that she would ask Adam for a ride? A mixture of jealousy and anger bubbled inside of him as he saw her climb on the back of the Adam’s motorcycle and ride away. Where is she going? What could she possibly be doing that is so important that she needed to go now? He still couldn’t get over the fact that she asked Adam to take her, but at this point she was probably just too mad to want to be with him.

Cailen thought and thought about what she could be doing. Was she taking matters into her own hands? Was she going to try and get him the money that he owed? If so, where would she get that kind of money? Some possibilities ran through his mind, but none of which he would expect from Alice. He had to do something about it. Sitting here and wallowing wasn’t going to get them anywhere. He got up and looked at Jack and Skylar who were still there. “I have to go” was all he said before walking back into the mall leaving them there alone. Calling the cops seemed to not be happening. They could call if they wanted to, but he Cailen needed to be doing something. He walked around the mall with a purpose. He had to get money, and fast. At the moment he had about $5 to his name. He walked into some small store that sold signs and bought a couple “For Sale” signs with the money he had. He was going to sell what he could as fast as he could. As he walked around the mall back to where his car was, he thought about his plan. Even if he sold everything, there was no way it would be anywhere near the amount he needed to pay back Tony. He needed another plan.

As he walked, Cailen saw a woman with a little girl walk out of the closest clothing store. The little girl was whining about wanting to get ice cream. The mother was trying to keep walking, but the stubborn little girl was pulling on the woman’s purse. The little girl then started crying and vigorously tugging on the purse. Cailen watched as the woman’s wallet fell out of her purse and onto the floor. The woman, who was trying to ignore her crying daughter, didn’t seem to notice. Quickly he ran to pick up the wallet. With shaky hands he pulled out the cash that was in the wallet and tucked it in his pocket. “Excuse me Miss, you dropped your wallet” he said to the woman. He handed her the wallet and walked away before she could thank him, or find out her money was missing.

Back at his house, Cailen put some things, such as his dirt bike out on the front lawn with the For Sale signs. He also put them on Ebay and Craig’s List for any online potential buyers. Now that he had a little time, he pulled out the money he stole from the lady at the mall. It was only about $43, but it was better than nothing. He didn’t know what came over him back there, but he’s never stolen from somebody like that before. Usually he would ask or con them out of their money, but never outright steal it. If this was the tactic he was going to take, he needed to think bigger. A bank would be a great place, but the chances of him getting caught were too great of a risk. He’d get caught before he would have the chance to give the money to Tony. Holding the bills in his hands, Cailen got that feeling. It was the same kind of feeling he had whenever he managed to have extra cash on hand. Going on sheer impulse, he climbed back into his car and drove the familiar route to the casino.

After her outburst, Alice watched in disbelief at the story that Adam was unfolding in front of her. She was not unaware that Cailen had accepted money from Adam in order to pay off debts in the past, but she had no idea what he had done in order to make the money. Suddenly she felt horrible for assuming that she was only one "giving up her dignity" to pay off Cailen's debts. So that's how that girl in Macy's recognized him.... She could not believe that this situation had gotten so bad.

As soon as Adam had offered to let him being the one to come up with the money, Alice opened her mouth to tell him that that was not going to be an option, however he did not pause to give her an opportunity to speak. "If you can...do that job, with me watching every show, I'll drive you there right now." Why the hell?!?

Her question was answered shortly after, although it still took her a lot more self restraint than she had thought to keep herself from slapping him in the face for even suggesting that he be there watching every single one of her shows. It was not as if he hadn't already witnessed her naked, but there were other reasons for this to be completely unacceptable to her. It would be one thing if Cailen somehow found out what she was doing to make the money for his debts, it would be a completely different story if he found out that on top of that, Adam knew about the entire thing and attended every single show.

"No," Alice spoke just the single word, even though she knew that Adam was more than likely bracing himself for another outburst. She had wanted to scream. She wanted to kick up a fuss for him even suggesting something such as that. But deep down she knew that he probably had a point and knew more about this world that she. Her plan began to unravel right in front of her. "How would Cailen react if he found out? It's already going to kill the relationship when he finds out about what happened with us, if he finds out that you've known about my plan, and instead of doing something to stop me, you insisted on watching? No." Alice's tone had quieted down, but still dripped with frustration. Now how was she to make enough money to free Bella. How were any of them going to come up with the money?

As her thoughts raced, she felt herself becoming dizzy, much like she had when she was walking around Macy's earlier. Once again this sickness that seemed to have fallen over her could not have come at a worse time. She tried to ignore it as her mind continued to mull over possible alternatives that would come up with money... and fast.

"What if..." Alice paused before finishing her sentence to think over the idea that had popped into her head a touch longer before actually speaking the words out loud. "I've got a little over one hundred dollars left that I was going to spend today. If we went to the casino with that... do you think we could turn it into the money we need?"

She could not believe that she was suggesting the cause of the problem might also be the solution, although it seemed like a better idea to her than giving Cailen another reason to hate her even more so than he was already going to. Of course, she had no idea how Adam would react to her making such a suggestion after he had called out Cailen for having the gambling problem not that long before. She stood up so that if Adam had another anti-gambling out burst, this time directed at her, she would be able to walk away easier to save herself getting upset for just trying to fix the situation. The second she was standing up straight on her feet, the spell that had fallen over her grew worse and her vision became double.

"I don't... I don't feel very..." Alice was unable to finish her own sentence before tumbling over back to where she was originally seated, this time, fortunately she did not lose consciousness like before. Once again she tried to ignore the fact that she was feeling more and more horrible, but this time it was much more difficult. What she thought was just merely a passing cold or flu bug was starting to feel much worse. Immediately she began to assume the worst. She reached into her purse and pulled out the remaining money that she had.

"The hospital's not far from here. Just... drop me off. I'll see a doctor," Alice handed Adam the cash that she had taken out of her wallet, "then just take this money and see if you can turn it into something more. I can't gamble anyway."

She knew that he was going to object to what she was asking of him; the part about the money, not the hospital, of course. She also knew that he was never going to just drop her off and leave her at the hospital like that. Thinking quickly, she pulled out her phone to make a call before Adam could oppose to what she was trying to put together. After waiting through a few rings, she got voicemail.

"Cailen... it's Alice. I'm not feeling good. Adam is taking me to Mercy Hospital to see a doctor. But he can't stay with me. Please meet me there," Alice finished her message and hung up the phone, and returned her gaze back to Adam, hoping that he didn't hate her for what she was doing.

Another unpleasant wave of dizziness and nausea came over her and she leaned her head back against the fence, still keeping her eyes fixated on Adam's. "Please... please, let's just try this."

"No...How would Cailen react if he found out? It's already going to kill the relationship when he finds out about what happened with us, if he finds out that you've known about my plan, and instead of doing something to stop me, you insisted on watching? No." Adam made no responce. Little did she know that Adam was trying to stop her, and appearantly it was working. Like Hell Adam was going to be responsible for allowing Alice to start stripping or pole-dancing to cover Cailen's affairs. Looking down for a moment, Adam's eyes momentarily darkened in an attempt to keep them from watering up. A deep wound stabbed into his chest; because, Adam acredited her willingness to ruin her reputation from the love she felt for Cailen. Yes, they all cared about Bella, but she was Cailen's sister, and at the moment Adam could only think about how much Alice must be worrying about Cailen's ' I can't lose Cailen. Thats what she's saying'

Having been silent all this time, the little voice in his chest began to pipe up again; the subject of his thoughts now giving his heart a reason to join the inward conversation. You need to tell her. Adam mentally shook his head. '
What would that solve? Alice has made her choice.' An anger bubbled up in his chest, a black claw of pain preventing it from settling in his heart. Fine. Just let me wither away. What happened to Mr. 'Screw it, our friendship is OVER'? ' I'm not going to chase someone who doesn't want me.' his heart was not satisfied with that answer and piped back another comment. That didn't stop you from chasing Bella. Adam's lips grumbled and he narrowed his eyes at the concrete. ' You know I wasn't serious about Bella. She'd never want me back and that was part of the appeal. A relationship without the possibility of sex ruining everything. Like I ruined Alice's relationship.' For a long moment there was silence, and that one second of space seemed to linger on and on for eternity.

It was all a distraction you know...liking someone who grimaces at the idea of being alone with you. Its nice to be seen for what you really are and get an honest responce. Revulsion. It was amusing, trying to warm up Bella's iceburg heart by smiles and text messages, to keep your mind off of the person you really want to bring a smile to. It never worked and you know it, cause I'll always know the truth, and you can't fool me. You care about Alice, and if your right and this ruins her and Cailen's relationship she'll never want to see you again. She's nice, she'll be sociable, but the friendship you had is dead, she'll retreat into her shell and count the seconds til your gone again. So you might as well end it yourself instead of dwindling the inevitable or settling for less than any person deserves. Tell her, because she should at least be able to have the option of turning you down or thinking about being wi--

"What if...I've got a little over one hundred dollars left that I was going to spend today. If we went to the casino with that... do you think we could turn it into the money we need?" Grateful to be pulled from his thoughts, Adam's eyes widened slightly at the suggestion, but he did not allow his 'rage problem' to rise to the surface. '
I'm going to get the money my way, the less she knows about it the better.' Deciding to 'play along', Adam nodded and stood with his hand outstretched under the belief that Alice was going to hand him the money. However, that was before she stumbled about from another dizzy spell.

Running forward those few feet to try and wrap his arms around Alice's waist, Adam could not keep the concern from showing on his face. Thankfully Alice hadn't blacked-out, but that didn't change the fact that she could be relapsing.

"
God; Alice, are you oh-" Seeing her drag out the cash he had no intention of gambling away from her purse, Adam had been about to finish his sentence when he knew how the question, the hated question, might only make the situation worse. No one who suffered from illnesses liked being asked if they were okay when the other person already knew the answer was 'no'. Don't dig your own grave here...

"The hospital's not far from here. Just... drop me off. I'll see a doctor," Adam looked down as the money was discarded, kindly, into his hand. The action may have had no ill will in the sentiment; but, he could not help but feel awful when he felt the smooth paper against his skin. "then just take this money and see if you can turn it into something more. I can't gamble anyway." Seeing Alice grab her phone and start dailing Cailen's number, Adam only listened long enough to hear what she said before the muscles of his face contorted in a quiet agony.

"Cailen... it's Alice. I'm not feeling good. Adam is taking me to Mercy Hospital to see a doctor. But he can't stay with me. Please meet me there."

See, its already begun. She's counting the seconds.

After a long moment of keeping his eyes closed to unwind from hearing that thought, Adam opened his eyes and passed a make-shift smile in Alice's direction. Or more really, a calm face. At this particular moment, all his smiles looked fake and he didn't want to waste the time trying to fool Alice through smiling. With Bella in danger, this was no time to be smiling. That was the reason he hoped Alice would blame for his currant melancholy.

Pocketing the cash, Adam held out his hand for a few moments to give Alice the option of taking his help without asking another 'need help up' statement that would only rub her condition in her face again. So far, his mouth tended to ruin things, and he didn't want to make her day worse by being combative.

Making Alice sit in front of him just so he was sure that she wouldn't fall off of the back of the motorcycle, Adam pulled the keys from his pocket and started the noisy vehicle. Following the speed limit to the exact degree in the hopes of not going too fast or two slow. Adam cared about Alice's health, and didn't want to risk getting into an accident today. '
Thats why I can't tell her.' His heart uttered a silent plea as he began to turn the motorbike around towards Mercy Hospital.

"
I'm sorry about you and Cailen.", Was all Adam could say without sounding like a whining baby. Adding a: 'you can blame that night on me', or ' I didn't mean to' to the end of his sentence would only make things worse, or bring up questions he didn't want to answer right now. Half hopeful that she wouldn't have the strength to answer.

~

Stopping the bike in front of the entrance to the emergency wing, Adam stayed behind. He wasn't going to screw up like he did in Macy's Department Store by showing his concern or letting her lean on him to walk those few steps to the door. '
Heaven forbid a nurse ask her if we're dating.' taking a leaf from Jack's book, Adam pulled his phone from his pocket and shook it as if to say: 'call or text if you need me'. Standing up over the motorcycle, Adam was going to keep standing there until he was sure she was inside safely with no more fainting spells.

Waiting for Alice to get inside so he could drive around to another building nearby for the basic 'Std' scans needed to show his 'benefactors' he was able to work. It was all handled by a doctor under the table, and by now he had enough prowess to warrant those fees wavered. '
I'm sorry about lying to you; but, I can't let this go down without doing my best to get the money.'

A mixture of surprise and thankfulness took over Alice when Adam seemed to agree to be going along with her plan. She knew that he would not object to taking her to the hospital, but the surprise came when he did not insist on following her inside. Of course, it did make sense. She had called Cailen and told him to come see her, but it wasn't her intention to shove Adam away for Cailen. Alice had wanted Adam to attempt to turn her money into more. She knew that she could trust Adam not to get carried away; she could not say the same for Cailen.

Making her way to the nurse in charge of triage, knowing the routine all too well from her illness-riddled past, she couldn't help but feel something odd deep inside of her. Almost as if she wanted Adam to be there with her. It was the same feeling that she had when the two were seated in Starbucks earlier... when he had reached out and grabbed a hold of her hand. This is silly. You know you're still dating Cailen, right? She pushed the thought of both men out of her head as she explained to the nurse what was wrong. Even given her past medical history, Mercy Hospital was always quite busy so Alice found herself seated in the waiting room, hoping that she wouldn't collapse before seeing a doctor.

I wonder how Bella is doing.... I hope that they can figure something out to get her back. I hate not being able to help. I don't want to be here right now. Despite not wanting to be where she was, she had learned many times in the past not to ignore symptoms when they took over her such as this. It could be something as simple as a flu virus, but at the same time it could be signs of a relapse. She'd learned that she had to be careful.

After growing tired of watching the second hand on the waiting room's clock twirl around and around in the circle, Alice pulled out her cell phone and began to toy with it to pass the time. Still no word from Cailen, but Alice chalked that up to him trying to get his sister back. That was more important right now. Absentmindedly, she opened the option on her phone to send a new text message.

I wanted you to stay.
I'm scared.
You just have this way of comforting me
like no one else can

The second she realized what she was typing, she immediately deleted all of it before the message could be sent. Perhaps that is how she felt, but she knew that she couldn't tell Adam that. That would be incredibly selfish. He needed to be taking her money and trying to make it into enough to free Bella. Then there was Cailen. She would never dream of hurting him in any way... but she was unsure of how things were going to pan out between the two of them. Alice found herself wondering if there would be anything left to repair of the relationship once everything was out in the open.

Alice knew that eventually she was going to have to tell Cailen about the night she spent with Adam. Clearly, this was not something she would be able to do right now. She would wait until Bella was home safe before allowing herself to drop a bomb in Cailen's already shaking world. Maybe he would forgive her and maybe he wouldn't. But can I forgive him for what he put Bella through?

She hadn't thought about that. Cailen's problem with gambling had always caused a rift in their relationship, but at the end of the day, Alice was always able to forgive him because she cared about him so deeply. However, his problem had never put anyone in danger before. A part of her was not convinced that was something she would be able to forgive; especially when it was his own twin sister's life he put on the line. A talk was definitely going to be in order as soon as Bella was returned safely.

Maybe if he agrees to go to some sort of... treatment for his problem things can be salvaged. But is he really going to do that when he finds out what I've done? No. He's going to hate me. He's not going to want to do anything I ask. She started to type another text message, this time to Cailen.

You need to get help for this gambling
Look what it has done.

Deleted. She couldn't send him that message, not now. It was something that should be discussed after the situation was no longer critical. Maybe it would be best if she just said nothing to him right now. Cailen needed to have his sister back safe and sound before anything else could be brought upon him.

Adam, I don't regret that night.
I want you to know that.
I care about you, a lot.
I wish you were here with me right now.
But I need to sort my head out.
I need to talk to Cailen, first.

This time Alice pondered actually sending this message, her finger even hovered over the button that would transmit the message directly to Adam's phone, fully well knowing that if she sent the message that she could not take it back. At the last moment, Alice changed her mind and hastily attempted to delete this message as well. Except this time she had accidentally pressed the button to send the text.

...
Message Sent: Skylar.

Alice's eyes grew wide with utter horror. She had accidentally sent the message intended for Adam to Skylar. Now she was in trouble. What if Skylar took the message directly to Cailen? Would she do that? Alice and Skylar were very close friends, but at the same time she was also friends with Cailen.

s**t.... s**t! No, no, no! Her mind screamed somehow hoping that by doing so, somehow the message would just disappear. Unfortunately, life did not work that way. She had to tell Adam about her mistake. If Cailen found out from someone other than herself what had happened... he was going to be angry, especially now that he was dealing with the Bella crisis.

Her fingers quickly began to type but she was unable to finish her message before being interrupted by the sound of someone calling her name. "Alice Humphrey? The doctor will see you now."

Cailen stepped into the familiar casino and looked around. No matter what time of day it was outside, it always looked like night in here. The darkness lit only by some neon and flashing lights to illuminate each game. At this hour the casino was slow, opening just a couple hours ago. It wouldn’t be until after the sun set and the dinner crowd was done that the casino would be in full swing. He walked past the slots, which were like a bottomless pit for losing all your money, and went straight for the blackjack table. It was where he was most comfortable, and most likely to win. Cailen sat down and pulled a 20 dollar bill that he stole from the lady back at the mall. There were only three other people at the table, including the dealer, who watched him. He took a deep breath, wondering if this was the right thing to do. If his friends found out he was here, surely they would kill him. Here was at the same place where the start of all this trouble happened, gambling again.

Reluctantly, Cailen handed the dealer the cash and grabbed the chips she exchanged for him. When she delt him his cards, he gave them a look. He sighed at his lousy hand, an 8 and a 6. He could still pull something out of this all he needed was for the dealer’s card to be really high. She flipped over her card to reveal a 7 of clubs. Not what he wanted. He tapped the table to signal that he wanted to hit, or get another card. The dealer gave him another card and he almost cursed. A King of Hearts made his total over 21, an automatic lose, unless the dealer also went over. At the end, the dealer flipped her other card to reveal an Ace. Rubbing his hands through his short hair, Cailen began to wonder why he even came here. He had a problem yes, but to be doing this right now when his sister was missing, that was beyond a problem.

Again, Cailen put in some more chips for another round. For some reason he couldn’t help himself. The next few rounds didn’t go as bad, but they didn’t go great either. He ended up having to put in another $10 to exchange for chips. This round he smiled when he saw his hand. It was the best one so far. An Ace and a 6 making his total 17. It was the closest he’d so far gotten to 21 on the first hand. The dealers hand revealed a 3 of Diamonds. It wasn’t bad, so Cailen doubled his bet. Just then he felt his phone go off in his pocket. Not now, I’m busy. The thought that it could be important crossed his mind as he let his phone go to voicemail. It pained him to ignore it, especially if it involved Bella, but he just couldn’t walk away now. This could be a winning hand and he didn’t want to lose it. The dealer flipped her card revealing a 2 of Clubs and a smile spread across Cailen’s face. I won, I actually won! Grabbing his winnings, he walked away from the table to listen to his voicemail.

It was Alice saying she was headed to the hospital. Cailen’s heart began to race wondering what was wrong now. He knew it had nothing to do with Bella, otherwise she would have mentioned it. All of his previous happiness quickly turned into worry. He wanted to know what was wrong with Alice. Is she going to be ok? He quickly sent her a message to let her know that he was on his way. “on my way. be there asap” Shoving the money into his pocket, he half ran out to his car. He was going slightly faster than the speed limit called for as he raced to Mercy Hospital. As he drove he remembered the last part of her message. Adam couldn’t stay. Where did he have to go that was so important? Cailen couldn’t help but be slightly happy at that fact though. Alice needed him, she actually wanted him. He pulled into a parking space outside of the hospital and raced into the emergency room. He looked around and managed to see Alice get up and walk towards a nurse. He ran over to her hoping to see her before she left. “Alice! Are you ok? What’s wrong?” he asked. Looking at her, there was nothing obvious that stuck out at him as to what was wrong with her and that came as a relief. But there had to be something wrong, making him worry even more that the problem could be even more serious.

Suddenly Jack was left alone with Skylar. His heart was pumping wildly from adrenaline, from the idea that Bella was kidnapped and they had to fix it, and from the fact that he was alone with Skylar. He looked towards her with a smile, "Should we go, then?" He twitched and let go of her suddenly, feeling awfully dirty from the mall air. He could taste the dirt. He looked down at his fingers and noticed dirt on his palms. He squeeled and started rubbing his palms together to get it off, then realized it was just rubbing it in to his skin. He shook his hands in the air, wanting to scream. He couldn't figure out what to say, he was in a mode of panic. He looked to Skylar and then towards the parking lot to find his black sedan.

He didn't want to go back in the mall, he wanted to submerge himself in bleach. He ran into the parking lot, without looking, and hurried towards his car. Once he found it in the maze, he reached for the door handle. But he realized how dirty door handles could get and he pulled back. Suddenly, he felt himself hyperventilate, his heart beating harder. He felt physically ill, like he was going to be sick. But hyperventilating had a lot of repercussions. He tried to blink away the dots that started forming in his vision but before he could do anything his body fell limp against the concrete, his head slammed against the ground with a solid crack.

As soon as the nurse had called for Alice to let her know that the doctor was ready to see her, out of the corner of her eye she noticed Cailen entering the waiting room area. Her heart began to race and she was sure that all of the color was drained out of her face. No way... Skylar couldn't have told him already.... Fortunately, the words that escaped Cailen were words of concern and not anger, so he must have received her voicemail. The nurse urged her forward seemingly impatiently, so Alice signaled for Cailen to come inside with her.

~~

Alice was relieved after exiting the hospital. The doctor had assured her that she had not relapsed and that what she was experiencing was more than likely just a simple flu virus. He had suggested that she get rest and in a few days she would be as good as knew. As if she could rest now. There was too much going on for her to just go home and sleep. Bella was still gone, Skylar was inadvertently informed about her night with Adam and Alice had no idea if she intended on telling Cailen or not.

"You know I'm not going to be able to rest until we get Bella back, so don't even suggest that you're taking me home to sleep," Alice broke her own swirling thoughts to inform Cailen that she wasn't going home before he could even suggest that she do so. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I've just felt horrible all day. I wanted to make sure it was nothing serious... I just didn't want to be alone and since Adam had to leave...."

Alice stopped talking there, she did not want to have to explain why Adam couldn't be there. She did not even want to mention the casino around Cailen right now. She hoped that the fact that she had stopped the sentence there would be enough of an indication that she wasn't going any further in that conversational direction. She was, however, curious as to how he was making out with the money she had given him. Pulling out her phone, she hoped that he had won something to get them that much closer to the amount they needed.

it was nothing serious.
no relapse, probably just the flu.
how did you make out?
please let me know.
<3

Alice sent the message without realizing that she had typed the little heart at the end of what she had said to him. It was if she had just typed it out subconsciously. Placing the phone back in her purse, she looked to Cailen as if to ask with her eyes what they should do now.

outofcharacter: Bleh. This post is probably a complete fail. I wanted to write her character out of the hospital as quick as possible. So I just time-skipped it. My dad is sick, and I saw him today in the hospital which was hard. I feel like it would take me a while to be okay with writing anything hospital and I didn't want to kill the RP. So if this part feels rushed, I'm sorry. I did my best. gonk

Cailen$Legosi

Cailen was nervous as he waited for Alice to say something. Instead he just followed her and the nurse to see the doctor. Finally when it was over, he was relieved. It didn’t seem like anything serious and he was thankful for that. The doctor thought it was the flu and told him to make sure she got rest. Yeah right, like that’s going to happen. As much as he wanted for her to relax for a few days, driving her home and forcing her to get some rest was just not a possibility. If he were in that situation, he wouldn’t want her to do that to him. It would be unfair to her, not to mention it would cause even more friction between them, to keep her out of the loop. “Alice, you know I care about you. As much as I would like you to get some rest, I know I can’t force it upon you.” He listened to her last statement. He wanted to ask where it was that Adam had to go, but she didn’t seem to want to talk about it. “It’s ok. I would drop anything I am doing to make sure you are ok, which I am glad that you are.” He thought it was ridiculous that she was apologizing. If she needed him, then that was perfectly fine with him. Better me than Adam.

Cailen remained quiet as he watched her type a message to someone on her phone. He could feel the lump of cash in his pocket and wondered if he should tell Alice about it. Surely she would be happy that I actually got some money, but how would she take it if I told her how? She probably won’t approve of me gambling. On the other hand, Cailen knew how to gamble now. Before he did it for the rush, for the fact that it was a fast way to win some money, even though all he did was lose. Rarely did he win, but when he did it was such a great feeling, like he was the big man on campus now. Since his last major loss, he decided to invest in a book on gambling. It didn’t cost much, but it sure changed the way he looked at gambling. No it wasn’t just a you win if you’re lucky, it is all about strategy. If you knew how to play the game, then your chances of winning increased. He learned blackjack and craps and those other table games were games of chance. They were about knowing what to do with what you have. The slots, even the nickel slots, were games of chance. There was no way to control when you are going to win and when you are going to lose. Since then Cailen learned how stupid he used to be.

When Alice looked up at him, he decided to tell her. He reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out the wad of cash. “I have about $800 here. It’s not much, but at least it’s something.” He thumbed through the bills to prove that he wasn’t lying. He knew her next question was probably going to be where he got it, and that was what he was afraid of. Should he tell her? Would that just make things worse? He took a breath and built up the courage to tell her. Honesty would be the best policy at this point in time. “Now, please don’t get too mad when I tell you where I got it,” he started out. “But I went to the casino and I won it. Alice, I actually gained something this time!” He got a little excited as he realized for once he left the casino with more than what he came with. “I know you are probably going to be mad, but trust me on this.” He wanted her to trust her. He knew what to do now, he knew how to properly gamble. Now that’s not saying that he was going to win all the time, but he was learning to know when to quit. He was learning how to stop before it got too out of hand.

Alice became relieved when Cailen informed her that he was not intending on forcing her to go home and sleep. She made a note to herself to take it easy and that if anything got much, much worse she would rest. Hopefully Bella would be back safely before that happened and she would be able to rest with ease.

It’s ok. I would drop anything I am doing to make sure you are ok, which I am glad that you are.

Alice felt a pang on guilt in her stomach at that comment. Here Cailen was, completely oblivious to everything that had gone on with her, everything that she knew she needed to tell him, and he was telling her that he would drop anything to make sure that she was okay. She began to wonder if she should just tell Cailen everything she was hiding so that at least her conscience would be free. Maybe it would be better if he hated her right now.

Not completely sold on the idea of telling him or not, Alice settled for a half-smile at his comment. She remained silent while she watched as he reached into his pocket to pull out a wad of cash. It didn't exactly look like the total amount Tony had requested, but it was still a relatively decent amount of money. Where did he get that? Her question was quickly answered. “Now, please don’t get too mad when I tell you where I got it”. Alice sighed. Cailen did not even need to finish his sentence before Alice managed to figure out where he had gotten the money. He'd gone to the casino again. Did he not realize that was the entire problem here in the first place? Bella would not be in this mess of a situation if he had just stayed away from the casino. “But I went to the casino and I won it. Alice, I actually gained something this time!

The excitement in his voice grated at Alice's nerves. She had seen this situation pan out a million times before. He would have a losing streak, and then finally think everything was okay once he won. It always spawned a vicious cycle of thinking things would be different because now he was winning. But things were never different. Well, in this case, but they were different for a worse reason. They were different because Bella was in danger and Cailen still thought gambling was the answer to the problem.

I know you are probably going to be mad, but trust me on this.

Once again, Alice remained silent as if she was unsure how to respond. A part of her was beginning to feel as if getting angry with him was not solving any issues. She had been angry with Cailen many times before when his gambling became an issue, but all it did was make the situation worse. "I'm not mad," Alice began, her voice audibly shaking as the words left her lips.

The word he had used, trust was what bothered her the most. He expected her to trust him that he know what he was doing this time. She'd heard it before, and whether it was true or not, she wasn't sure if that was something she was able to do this time. But even more than that, Alice felt guilty more than anything. She was the untrustworthy one. She was the one hiding this gigantic secret. This one gigantic secret that was know gnawing at her insides.

"I... I don't... I'm not..." her speech faltered as her mind was unable to put together the sentences to say what she wanted the exact way she wanted. She looked up at Cailen for a brief moment and saw the anticipation in his eyes at what she was about to say. He probably thinks I'm breaking up with him because of the gambling... little does he know what I'm about to say is going to be so much worse.... The gears inside Alice's mind worked double-time to try and put together exactly how she was going to say the words about to come out of her mouth.

"I'm not sure if I can trust you about the gambling, once again she attempted to speak what was on her mind. "I can try. I know I can try... but there's something I need to tell you. And once I do I don't think that you're going to be able to trust me."

Alice kept her head facing the ground as her eyes began to well up with tears. She'd passed the point of no return and the grim reality of the situation was that Cailen just might hate her forever for what she was about to say. She tried to continue her sentence, but for some reason was just unable to make her lips form the words I slept with Adam. The more she attempted, the more tears started to fall from her face.

"I'm sorry," she wept, raising to her feet and starting to turn her body in preparation for walking away from him, "I can't do this...."

With that, she walked away from him at as fast of a pace as her feet were going to allow. She did not turn around to see if Cailen was following her, which was likely. Surely he wanted to know what she was going to tell him. Unsure of where she was even going to go, she just kept walking along side of the hospital, trying to figure out what the hell she was going to do now.

Tony had been driving the entire time with Bella in the backseat. From the way she was acting, he didn't need to bound and gag her. Which was a plus, he hated that part of the job. Tony wasn't just doing this for the money, but for his boss as well. He worked for the biggest mobster in the city. Sure, he had told Cailen about his ex-wife, but a lot of the money was going to win or earn was going to the Boss. The Boss was the one who thought money could win back everything, Tony was won over with that idea. Tony pulled into a side street surrounded by forest. "Until your brother contacts me about the money, you'll be staying with The Boys. They know not to touch you without my word, or Boss's... so don't worry about getting hurt. You're just leverage." He sneered as he pulled into a long drive way. "I need that money back, we need that money back."

The drive way finally ended and he pulled into the garage. A man approached the car and tapped on Tony's window. He rolled it down and raised an eyebrow, "I'll get the money back, guaranteed, this is the kid's sister... I think we'll get it by tonight." The man adjusted his dark classes and combed back his blond hair. Tony copied his movements as he got out of the car. Bella's door was pulled open and Tony unbuckled her and pulled her out by her upper arm.

"You'll be safe here, for as long as it takes to get the money back." The famous final last words, could Tony really promise that Bella would be alright with the mobsters? Tony lead her upstairs into a lounge with a red and orange theme to it, like fire. Tony showed her to the couch. "I'll be right back." Tony left her and walked into the other room to hang with the other mobsters. A small little boy with big blue eyes approached Tony, "Daddy told me you brought someone to play with!" Tony laughed and rubbed his fingers through the kid's red hair. The kid rushed out of the room and approached Bella. He stopped suddenly and giggled, "You're really pretty." He blushed and buried his face in the cushion of the couch.

Meanwhile, Tony sat with the other mobsters playing poker. "Any news?" The men shrugged, Tony continued speaking. "Well, the money is so close in reach I can almost taste it."

[[ooc: DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN! 100th post. ;D With Tony being all evil and stuff. AND INSERT LITTLE BOY FOR BELLA TO BE ALL "I have one of those inside of me? OMGSOCUUUUTE" or something. With the hundred dollars carefully sealed within his wallet, Adam drove the three blocks to a miniature version of a hospital called: Weston Clinic. Knowing the drill well enough to completely ignore the front of the building, Adam drove his motorcycle illegally between the side of the building and the tall redwood fence and parked as far away from the dumpster as possible. Turning off the ignition, Adam looked up at the dumpster with a scowl on his face. ' How fitting...'

Walking inside after knocking his fist against the door to the tune of: 'Green Acres is the place to be', Adam did not have to wait long before Dr. Slovowski walked into the room and shook Adam's hand. The man glanced at a clip board and saw that Adam had wrote in his alias, so with a nod he pointed to the back room where these tests were done. Without another word or dillydallying with conversation, Adam walked dejectedly behind him. '
I can't believe I'm doing this...'

~

About the time Alice was recieving her positive results from the doctor, Adam watched Dr. Slovowski enter the room with a grievious expression on his face. '
Oh no...thats not a good sign...' Adam had never once paused to consider that he might not past the health screening, and it was only upon seeing his face that Adam allowed a sense of dread to claw at his stomach. ' No...No, I can't have an std, I always used protection. I always use protection...' unintentionally quoting the last phrase like a mantra, the fact that Dr. Slovowski's face only grew more worried and melancholy as he walked towards Adam only increased his worry from anxiety to panic. ' Don't you dare. You better tell me your cat just died, or your moms in the hospital.' His heart pulpitating thunderously in his chest, Adam's own face contorted in agony as that man kept walking towards him with the look of death masked upon his face. Saying: That poor boy, or his life is over, and before he actually uttered the dreaded words, Adam knew what Dr. Slovowski was going to say.

"
I'm sorry Adam...But it looks like your HIV positive..." Yep. Your life is over. Staring blankly forward, the only thing Adam could do in responce was shake his head over and over again. Very slowly. ' I always used protection...I always used protection...'

Except with Alice, his mind chose to pipe up in that exact moment before his cell phone began to chirp Alice's text-tone. The little song Alice liked only draining more color from his face. '
Alice was...sick today...Oh God...Tell me she's pregnant.' Adam thought worriedly to himself as he flipped open his phone to survey the text.

it was nothing serious.
no relapse, probably just the flu.
how did you make out?
please let me know.
<3

'
Oh Cr*p... Oh sh*t! What have I done?'Adam swallowed a gulp of his own saliva. Not even noticing the little heart the first time he read the message, all Adam could focus on was that there was no way his friend had the flu. Yes, he could be hopeful and hope she had the flu...but it wasn't likely. You didn't just ruin her relationship Adam, you ruined her life. When Bella's been found, pack your bags and move to Portland. that would be -after- he told her of course. Adam wasn't going to let himself run away without first admitting the awful truth. ' Your right, if I don't tell her I'm HIV positive, I'll never live with myself.' Adding Alice's text to his 'saved' folder, Adam was about to open it again to re-read the devastating news when another 'A-hem?' omitted from Dr. Slovowski's mouth. The clueless, zombie-faced, Adam looked up from the mechanical device in his hand. Unaware that there had been an awkward, two-minute, pause stalling the atmosphere.

"
You...um...know our policy...If you don't pass, you have to pay co-pay." Adam wanted to strangle the man. All chances of having a normal, healthy, relationship were over. He was a modern Leper, and this guy wanted him to fork over money. If not for the genuine concern in the man's eyes, Adam would have burst out of his seat and shoved him. However, he was too stunned to yell at this point. ' I'm an incubus of viral pleague.' But no, oh no no, it was much worse than that. Remembering all those years while his dearest friend was going through her illness, the happiness she felt when they believed the illness was gone, and her brightened mood in believing it would not return...to now have to go through another life-threatening illness.

Adam wished he had a gun in his pocket for someone to take out of his hands. Alice would bear the stigma of this for the rest of her life, and it was his fault. At least if Alice had cancer and died, then one could say she fought the good fight and lost. Having HIV and dying...people tended to think: oh...she must have been a slut. True or not, it was what people tended to think, and to have people think such horrible things about Alice behind her back was too much for Adam to contemplate and not shake in the lobby chair. You ruined her for life, and now you can't even earn the money to save Bella. Adam tried so hard not to think the dark thought bubbling up in his brain, he fought so hard that his eyebrows furrowed together and his clenched hands began to throb in pain as they became white from lack of color. '
Say something to him...don't think this, don't think this.'

'
How much do I pay?', Adam spoke like a convicted man. No emotion or empathy in his voice. Guilt was the cause of his numbness, and guilt is what made the dark thought pop up into his mind: No one wants to settle down with an HIV infected person. Even if you were a doctor with a PH.D or a nobel prize, if thy found out you have HIV say goodbye to a relationship. Your unclean, and you'll always be unclean, so whats the point in living? There's nothing to look forward to, so just go home and end it. Already past the 'breaking point' Adam didn't even listen to the man as he pulled a fifty dollar bill from his wallet to hand the man. Dr. Slovowski rang up the scan in his little computer and cautiously handed Adam a prescription for medication to cover him until Adam visited his regular doctor. Adam had no idea why Dr. Slovowski's hand was shaking, he had no idea how the anger in his system made his face look almost demonic. ' I'm sure he relay's this news all the time. Must think I'll punch him or something...'

Storming out of the hospital, not wanting to contemplate the dark thought until after Bella was home and safe, Adam knew not what else to do besides go home and sell all his posessions on ebay. '
Its not like I'll need them anymore.' All people had a phase after finding out such news where they contemplated the dark thought, and for the moment his mood was not much improoved. Almost speeding as he drove to his fancy apartment, Adam skipped the elevator for once to walk up the ten flights of stairs.

The wind in his face on the drive home sure helped his mind mull over the situation, and the long walk only furthered his drive to do the right thing and tell Alice as soon as possible. He couldn't wait til it was all over, he couldn't risk her finding out from a doctor before she found out the truth from him. '
I'm not that much of an *ssh*ole.' as he unlocked his navy blue door and shoved it open, Adam pulled his phone out of his pocket to send Alice the most important text he had ever sent a woman.

Alice...We need to talk about something. Alone.
No, it can't wait. Its very important.
We can talk here, but i'd prefer doing it in person.
I'll be home all evening, so just stop by anytime.
Bring a baseball bat. Thanks.
<3.

Only adding the heart because he imagined it was Alice's new: cute little thing, she added to the end of her texts like a signature, Adam closed his phone but kept it out of his pocket. Looking around at all his 'things', such as the big screen HD tv and the stereo system, it all seemed so unimportant. What was the point of having nice things if here was no one to share them with? Yes he had really awesome friends, he couldn't forsake his friends, but he had once used this apartment to win girls' favor over the years. It was the stuff they liked, or the things he did, that they liked. But then again, at the time, he hadn't wanted anything serious. He hadn't thought ahead to a time when he would want anything serious. Now he wanted it, and it was too late...

Heading strait for his laptop, Adam logged on to craigslist and pawn shops hoping to find the best offers for his television set and his car sitting in the parking garage. Surely the car could cover eleven grand. It had cost him a great deal more than that for it...but the timing...Adam's face contorted in a grimace in the knowledge that he might not be able to sell anything in time. '
Please don't kill Bella...' Adam projected into the world, hoping his unanswered prayer could be heard by someone in the void.

After turning a corner around the perimeter of the hospital, Alice finally stopped and sat down in the grass with her back to the brick behind her. Flinging her head into her hands, she continued to sob. She had ruined everything, surely now Cailen would not want to be with her. Their friends would hate both her, and probably Adam was well. No, they'd expect this from Adam, but not from me. No one will forgive me. I'll be all alone. Pushing any potential feelings for Adam aside, Alice tried to figure out what she was going to do. She knew she needed to tell Cailen now, she had passed the point of no return on that one. It would be better if he heard it from her, so she needed to act quickly, completely unaware if Skylar intended on doing the right thing by showing Cailen the message she had accidentally received.

Interrupting her thoughts, Alice could hear the sound of her phone vibrating, letting her know that she had an incoming text message. Figuring that it was from Adam, a part of her felt guilty for even reaching for her phone to read it. Nevertheless, hoping that it would be good news about Bella, she gave in and read the message anyway. He wants to talk... what the HELL does he want to talk about?

She tossed her phone a little ways in front of her without replying, trying to rid the tears still pouring from her eyes. She pondered what on earth Adam could think was so important that he needed to speak to her right away. Something so important that it couldn't wait; even considering the situation going on with Bella currently. Her mind went back to the last part of his message "Bring a baseball bat". He thinks I'm going to be angry... what would I be angry about? If he lost money at the casino it isn't a big deal... it was just a longshot anyway. Then it hit her. She had sent Adam to the casino, the same place where Cailen had just won some money. She figured that must be what he wanted to tell her, that he had spotted Cailen there and wanted to let her know where her boyfriend was.

"Like that's really important right now!" she cried out as if somehow he could hear her response before reaching forward to obtain her phone so that she could actually respond.

No, it can wait.
it has to. I'm telling Cailen about that night
it's going to ruin everything, my entire life.
i should have thought about that before...
whatever you want... just...
it will have to wait for now.
ps. i already know he was at the casino

Her fingers typed furiously with surprising accuracy despite how upset she was at the current moment. Viciously slamming her phone back into her purse she took a few deep breaths, knowing what had to happen next. She had to tell Cailen. It was now or never. Rising from the ground, she picked up her purse and began to walk back in the direction that she had come from. Thankfully, she could see Cailen in the distance, so he had not left.

As she walked, it felt as if she had been on death row, and was now walking down the corridor to meet her fate of lethal injection. But in this case, the Governor would not be calling to relieve her of her fate. Continuing to take deep breaths to prevent herself from crying in hysterics has she had before, she kept walking. Each step brought her closer and closer to the end. The end of her relationship. The end of her friendship with everyone she held so dear. No one would forgive her for this.

"I'm sorry," Alice whispered as she finally made it back to where Cailen was standing. A few tears managed to escape from her eyes and start trickling down her cheek. One more deep breath and it was time to let the truth be known. "I didn't want to tell you now... not with what happened to Bella. But I want you to hear it from me. It's better if you hear it from me." She paused to collect herself for what she was about to say. "During our last break, I was really upset. I ran into Adam and he invited me back to his place so that we could talk. I had just left your place and I was in such a mess, I didn't know what to do. We sat and talked, he tried to do whatever he could to make me feel better..." There it was, the nuclear bomb was about to drop and destroy everything she cherished with its scorching lethal radiation. "I slept with him. I know we weren't technically together at the time... but I shouldn't have done it. It was a mistake. I care about Adam, sure... we've been friends for such a long time, but... I crossed a line. I'm so sorry... I understand if you hate me. I hate myself. I'm going to help you get Bella back and then I'm just going to disappear and you'll never have to hear from me again...." As the last bits of the story left her lips, she could not stop herself from crying. Surely anyone watching the conversation transpire would think that she must be delivering the news of someone's death what with such close proximity to the hospital, but she didn't care. She continued to cry. More that anything she wanted to wrap her arms around Cailen and beg for his forgiveness, but she knew that wasn't an option. If he forgave her it had to be his choice, and not because she pleaded with him to do so.

outofcharacter: . . . *BOOOM* oh, Alice. if only you knew you had bigger problems right now. also, I totally need to plug this song for this post. The melody seemed perfect for the tone that I was trying to write, and it's a freakin' amazing song anyway. And the whole "only you can heal your wounds" theme to the song totally fit this post, since Alice finally owned up to her mistakes. ch'yeah. epicness all around with this song, just sayin'.

Adam was too busy writing down addresses to open his phone the second it beeped from recieving Alice's text message. However, when he did open the phone, the color once more left his face. His eyes bulging out like a frog by just seeing the line: I'm telling Cailen. When he continued onward, his eyes stopped over the words:'It's going to ruin my life'. ' Ha...' That was so funny he had to verbalize it.

"
Ha!" Adam shook his head as the printer by his foot began to sputter and screech. ' Alice...Your life isn't ruined yet. When I tell you my news, then it'll be -over-.' At this point Adam had to laugh at the circumstance, not because it was funny, but because it was the only thing keeping him from loosing his mind. The wall holding him back from a mental breakdown. Perhaps sounding rather crazy by randomly expelling that 'ha' to an empty room, Adam tried not to think about it as he re-read Alice's text again and again. After a third read, Adam's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. ' What is she talking about with the casino?' The answer hit him as suddenly as the question had popped up.

"
HA!" 'Ohhh noo' Adam playfully mouthed as he closed his eyes and expelled a quiet breath. ' She thought I had bumped into the casino.' Adam once more began to shake his head back and forth. Obviously doing nothing didn't work, being kind didn't work, being forgiving didn't work, and being angry didn't work; so Adam wasn't going to try and stop Cailen anymore. That was really the final staw for him, and wasting his energy harboring anger or resentment was only going to hurt himself. Cailen didn't seem to respond to anything; if he wanted to gamble, he was going to gamble. Maybe Adam was already crazy, because he just started to laugh and laugh at how stupid Cailen was. If not for the probability of Cailen driving over to Adam's apartment right now to punch his lights out, Adam might have considered doing the same. ' Weighing the scales...I'm not sure which is worse. Cailen's gambling problem putting Bella in danger, or my sleeping with Alice while they were broken up, -then- trying to woo Bella, the only other main girl in his life.' Adam wasn't sure, but he guessed it was him. Cailen could be the one bringing the baseball bat if he wanted to, Adam wasn't going anywhere.

Bending low enough towards the printer to be able to smell the wet ink on the parchment, Adam pursed his lips as if it could help him memorize the mapquest directions on the hot pieces of paper in his hands. '
I wonder how Jack's doing...' Adam randomly thought in the realization that he might need some help carrying the big screen out to the car. Usually Jack, at least in Adam's opinion, spent a long time zoned out after tramatic events just thinking about things before finally snapping out of whatever world he zoned off too. ' Should I try texting him, or do you think he's still in lala land?' Adam had already started typing a message, so he didn't bother waiting for a reply from the wall...

'
Hey Jack. I'm trying to sell some stuff
to help Cailen earn money, but I could
use a few extra hands. Can you and Skylar
drop by, or are you guys too busy? wink
'

Adam chuckled to himself at the probability of that being true. As serious as the situation was, he didn't want to ask his friend for assistance without lightening the mood somewhat. A joke seemed to be the most fitting thing, so Adam added the 'wink'. Closing his phone and stuffing it back into his pocket, Adam lifted his eyes to the door when he thought he heard a knock. Upon standing up to check on the noise, it was only his neighbor's cat butting its head against the wall.

"
Hey psycho kitty...Want to come in?", The brown cat hissed and ran away. Adam furrowed his eyebrows and watched him disappear before closing his door and locking it again. Thinking on the cat's reaction, Adam shook his head again. ' I'd better get used to it...'

Cailen didn’t know how Alice was going to react to him telling her that he went gambling again. Is she going to be mad? Upset? Storm away and hate him forever? What did happen wasn’t what he was expecting. Instead of being furious with him like he thought, she seemed at a loss for words. This meant she had something on her mind, he could tell. By the looks of it, it’s something big. He could understand how she couldn’t trust him with gambling again. After this incident no one is going to trust him with their money ever again. It was the end of her sentence that really caught his attention. He knew she had something to tell him, but she was asking for his trust. What did she do? What could she have done that was worse than being responsible for your sister’s kidnapping? He kept quiet, waiting for her to continue. When he saw her look up with tears in her eyes, he didn’t know what to say. The anticipation was killing him. Just when he thought she was finally going to tell him what was wrong, she said she couldn’t and walked away.

Cailen didn’t know what to do as he saw her quickly walk away from him. Confusion clouded his mind as he stood there with a blank look on his face. What just happened? When she walked away all he could think was that it was something he did. She is breaking up with me, that’s what she wants. This last incident with Bella had put her over the edge. And the fact that he still couldn’t stop gambling despite that his sister was gone sealed the decision. That is it. That is what she is trying to say. Instead of going after her, he just stood there in a Jack like fashion. She doesn’t want to be around me anymore, doesn’t want to see my face. As these thoughts flooded his mind, he became angry at himself. I am so stupid, how could I let this happen? First I lose Bella, now Alice. He didn’t know what to do. She he go after her, try and fix things, or should he just leave?

Instead of taking any action, Cailen just stood there like a statue. Finally, he saw Alice returning and walking back towards him. She looked worried. It wouldn’t be the first time they broke up, but this time it was probably for good. He embraced himself as he waited for his thoughts to become reality. As she talked, he knew this was it. She didn’t want to break up with him now and cause him more pain; except as she kept talking, a whole different scenario played out. Alice and Adam? He couldn’t believe it. Never would he thought that either of them would do that to him. Sure he and Alice technically weren’t together, but they hadn’t really broken up. I was never with another girl during our breaks. I didn’t go around and sleep with Skylar! He could feel anger building up; this was not what he wanted to hear. He would have rather her break up with him then to hear that. At least if she did break up with him he could understand, but he hadn’t done anything wrong when she decided to get with Adam. He didn’t know who to be angrier at, her or Adam. Cailen could expect something like to come from Adam, but not Alice, he thought she knew better. But to him, Alice always seemed so innocent. Adam was easier to blame, and at the moment he was angrier at him. It was easier to be angry with him, so that’s what he went with.

When Alice said the last part, all the anger and frustration dissipated. Sure Cailen was mad, but it was something he could get over. He wasn’t going to hold it against them for the rest of his life. After all, I’ve done worse. He did not want her to go away, that was for sure. As he looked at her, tears streaming down her face, he couldn’t help feeling bad for her. He closed the gap between them and wrapped his arms around her in a hug. It looked like she needed one, and he needed one too. “I don’t hate you. Please don’t go away. I don’t want you too.” It sort of felt like déjà vu from earlier today when he was the one who messed up. “A lot has happened today, and it made me realize some things. I know it was a mistake, and I can forgive you for it. The important thing is that you are safe and healthy, for the most part.” He was one who could now understand that mistakes like this could happen. For him not to forgive her would be selfish of him. This was something they could try and fix. All that mattered to him now was that she was here; he could see her and hold her and comfort her. He wished he could say the same for Bella.
