I'm learning both of them and I Discovered Canto is much coplicated than mandarin!
I
heart Canto tough coz I like their accent and the sound they make.
My dad can speak both but i really wanna hear other dialects tough
blaugh I agree that learning Canto is much harder than Mandarin. My reasons for this are:
1) It doesn't have a proper English pronunciation which can be written like Mandarin (well, it's not well known anyway);
2) Canto's words are difficult to pronounce, whilst Mandarin's is a little easier;
3) Canto makes full use of the voice's tones (going up and down), even more so than Mandarin. If you've noticed, English stays very untoneful, lol. We don't go up and down when speaking English.
But that's my point of view. I may be wrong on a few of the points I've listed above, but so far, I think I'm correct.

Yep, China = more mandarin, and Hong Kong = more cantonese.
Definitely. Hong Kong is mainly Cantonese based. It barely has Mandarin people, and a lot of the old people know how to speak "Hakka". In China, a large region (Guang Zhou in particular) speaks Cantonese, but of course, the rest is completely Mandarin, with some odd dialects creeping up now and again.
