"Settle down, Gwend."
"Raaaah!"
Kacen grumbled at the soaked Rattata, who wanted desperately to get under his hoodie and away from the rain, and decided he'd rather Gwend be grumpy than get his clothes all wet. He held him at arms length, narrowing his eyes at the little pokemon. "Don't be a pain. We're going inside in just a moment."
As he said so, he turned and backed into a door, opening it with his shoulder and entering the building where he would meet bill. He set Gwend on the floor, who promptly shook out all his violet fur, and reached for his hood, pulling it down to fix his hair. He'd pull it back up when he went back outside, whether it was raining or not, but he figured it was always polite to take your hat, or hood, off when you entered someone else's building.
He approached the counter and the friendly farmer behind it. "Hi, I called in for a rental before coming here. Kacen Quinn?"
Billy bobbed his friendly little head and bent beneath the counter to snatch a pokeball for him. "This is it! Ponyta. I call he Zipporah, but I suppose she'll answer to something else." He grinned at Kacen and the boy couldn't help but return it. "Thank you. I'll take good care of her."
"Oh!" Billy exclaimed. "I almost forgot. Tie this around her leg." He handed over a green slip of cloth. "That's the color of the group you'll be traveling with. Look for green clothes on other rentals."
Kacen nodded and turned, scooping up Gwend and muttering his thanks. He slipped out the door, pulled his hood up with one hand, and took a deep breath. Then he pressed the release button on his pokeball.
Zipporah was a beautiful ponyta, and as she emerged, she shook her head. No doubt a little confused about the sudden shower, she whinnied and frowned at Kacen.
"Hey, Zippo." He grinned and tied the cloth around her as he had been instructed. "We're gonna be best pals, yeah?"

[[ I fall asleep and I miss so much ; A; -goes to overdose on coffee for the rest of the event!- ]] Hands on her hips, Tabitha huffed at the rancher, fairly annoyed with his overly cheerful demeanor and his warnings of the rain and the Ponyta despising it. He seemed to be of the impression that she didn't know how to deal with pokemon. True the one pokeball at her hip wasn't hers, she'd borrowed her sister's Banette as a 'just in case', but she would get her own pokemon eventually. The empty pokeball dangling from her necklace was promise enough of that. Huffing and signing the form, she stuck out her tongue at the man as he left her to pick out her temporary companion. A ponyta heh, if she'd been able to convince her parents to lend her one of their prized Rapidash she wouldn't have had to meet that man in the first place, oh well she would have to make do.

A brown haired, glasses wearing trainer entered the ranch outside of Katarina, looking quite concerned about the rain. "Oh dear," she mumbled, "this isn't going to be any good for riding or for studying. I just hope the humidity doesn't get to the books I brought." The woman, somewhere in her early 20's, took off her back pack that she'd brought along, checking briefly for leaks.
Atop the woman's head sat a little pichu, looking at the backpack with curiosity. It was the main thing that identified her as a trainer, as her outfit was more academic than anything else. The pichu began looking around the ranch, excited and sparking. "Chuuu!" it cried loudly with anticipation, looking at the other trainers scattered around the ranch.

((M'hoping any inaccuracies in Tauros-riding in this post aren't terribly grave. XD I'm not sure if they're supposed to use saddles, I don't remember seeing any in the anime.)) After parting ways with the gym leader, Kary left the Pokemart and made her way to the ranch. She filled out the proper forms and paid the rental fee to Bill without a hitch, then went to pick her mount from the Tauros that were in the Red Group. As she made her way to the stables, the newbie trainer mumbled to herself. "I hope the Tauros don't try to charge each other while we're riding them... They're probably trained not to do that, right?" Sighing as she reached the place where the Pokemon were kept safe from the rain, the brown haired girl glance around, and the first thing she laid eyes on was an oddly calm looking Tauros with a red cloth tied to his middle tail. The Tauros had looked up at her right as he heard her coming, and the two locked eyes. Kary was nervous for a moment that she had provoked it, but after a few tense moments, it returned to grazing. She noticed his fur was greyer and his mane was darker than typical, she guessed it due to a mix of natural variation combined with age. Kary approached him cautiously, holding out a few treats she had picked up in advance.
"Hey there," she said softly, as not to startle him. He barely glanced at her before his eyes landed on the treats in her hand. "These are for you if you'll let me ride you on the trip." Seeming to understand this, the Tauros lifted his head from the grass and calmly ate the treats from her palm. She noticed his horns were littered with scratches; this guy was a brawler? Or maybe had been in his younger years...
"You want to go get acquainted?" She asked as he finished with the peace offering. The old Tauros gave his head a tilt towards his back, and Kary set her backpack down in a safe place out of the rain and dawned a bright yellow poncho before making a few attempts at clambering onto his back. Once on, she took hold of the long hair of his mane in her hands to hold on, hoping she wasn't pulling too hard, and gave him a light squeeze with her feet. The Tauros walked casually towards the stable's exit.
"Well, this is going w-" -the wild bull Pokemon took off like a shot as soon as he was past the doors- "-AAAAAUGH! Sl-slow down, I'm going to fall off!" The Tauros gave a huff and slowed, still at a run but no longer a sprint. "Yeesh!" Kary shouted, still startled from the sudden acceleration, but relieved that he had listened to her. "How long have you been in that stable?!" Kary added with a laugh as the Tauros took her on a tour of the ranch. Eventually, the two reached the stables again, and Kary removed her poncho then fetched a hairbrush from her backpack to straighten what had been mussed by wind and rain. She was thankful she hadn't lost her hat on the ride.
"So you basically know what to do on this trip, eh? Been through this before?" The Tauros swung his head in what she assumed was a nod, stamping his foot as he did. "Ah, good," Kary said, standing up after putting her hairbrush away and placing a hand on the Tauros's forehead, "I'm gonna call you Boss, then."
Boss swung his head again, this time away from her hand and gave a warning huff, whipping his tails for added effect. Kary could have sweat-dropped.
"Whatever you say, Boss."

Sighing, Meeka tipped her at everyone who looked her way. So much for this being fun, she did not know notice a familiar face at all! Avella puffed out her feathers, showing she was not too keen on the fact of being out after such a long flight.
"Aha, gotcha, gotcha." Meeka said and withdrew the poised bird Pokemon. However, she still needed some kind of company and tapped the Pokeballs in her bag. Who, who, who to choose . . . ? Tucked within a corner was a certain Master ball at which she fingered. Would she . . . could she? Before could she even think twice, the purple Pokeball popped open and a large Mewtwo formed.
"Meeka!"
OH CRAP.
Grabbing the giant squirrel-kangaroo-cat humanoid thing behind something big, Meeka scowled. "You know you can't be out! There might be Rockets out!"
Rin frowned. "Oh, but come on! There is all trainers here! I doubt there is a Rocket here within at least one hundred miles. Besides, I have been behaving. Give me a chance, please?"
Meeka sighed. Oh great. This would be the first time in such a while she let this genetic experiement finally have freedom without cover-up. Tugging Rin by her tail, she beckoned her forward. Some trainers stared in awe at the giant Mewtwo, to which she giggled loving the attention. Who wouldn't be surprised? A six foot legendary meant to 'dangerous' was floating amongst people like a civilized character. It was quite a sight to see and Meeka was taking a chance by keeping her out and about for this long.

The woman swung her backpack onto her back again just in time to see the trainer with the energetic Tauros take a ride along the ranch. She couldn't help but giggle as she made her way carefully over to Bill. "It seems like the pokemon here are energetic, to say the least," she chuckled as she filled out the proper forms for the Rancher.
"Ayup," Bill replied, grinning, "there my pride an' joy, they are. Born and bred right here on m' ranch."
"I'm certain they're very reliable too," the woman said, smiling as she left the rancher. She quickly walked to the stables, where her eyes immediately fell on a rather dashing ponyta with a red sash around its neck. The horse pokemon was looking out at the rain with disappointment. Lisa approached it and, very carefully, began stroking its nose. "Why hello there, I'm Lisa," the trainer introduced herself, "Shall we go on a little stroll together?" The ponyta looked out at the rain, then back at Lisa. It nodded slowly. Almost as soon as it did, the pichu leaped onto the horse's head. Lisa giggled and carefully mounted the ponyta, thankful for the fireproof saddle it was equipped with. Taking the reigns, she urged the horse forward gently, and it began walking steadily into the light shower.

Rhia double checked the small first aid kit at her waist as she approached the doors of the ranch. Apparently she wasn't an early enough bird-- although she was pretty early-- because she had seen several people leaving the ranch and there was another boy standing out in front tying a scrap of cloth to his Ponyta's leg.
"Good morning," she greeted briefly as she passed by, casting him a quick smile on her way into the building.
There were a few people inside, but for the most part it seemed as if she had come during a lull. Either she was very late, or more people had slept in than she had. The impending trip made her a bit nervous, though, and coupled with the excitement it made it very difficult for her to sleep.
"How can I help you?" The rancher behind the counter asked, grinning broadly at her. Rhia cast a reserved smile back.
"I have a rental to Moterossa for Rhiannon?"
As Bill scanned the list, Rhiannon caught a few quick glances at the massive amount of people renting Pokemon. There were quite a few check marks, but even more people had yet to get their Pokemon. It was going to be a real parade.
I guess I'm not the only one who noticed the Eevee swarm and wanted a closer look. I hope that the trainers who are going don't ruin the view with a bunch of messy battles. Catching them is okay, but I'd like to get some time observing them first!
"Right. Green group, Ponyta. You get Kel. He sometimes takes his head into his own hands a bit, but he should be fine for the trip." Rhia received a Pokeball and a band of green cloth. "Tie that to one of his legs. You'll be travelling in a group with other people who have green bands. I'm holdin' any caravans here until the rain stops-- Ponyta don't enjoy rain much, ya know-- . When you gather back here later after finishing last minute shopping or what you need to do, look for other people with green bands. They'll be your companions for the next two days.
She barely noticed she had been given a male Ponyta (a species which was primarily female), let alone a difficult one. As the excitement filled her, Rhia wished that Parker had decided to go with her. He'd waved her off, said that although another Eevee or one of its evolutions would be great for his team, he wanted to focus on training his current one first. Besides, from her perspective, he'd never want to sit still for hours at a time so she could draw. He'd get bored after one hour, not to consider several!
She still had some last-minute shopping to do-- little things she hadn't remembered to snag beforehand with her main supplies-- but first she double-checked the leg of the Ponyta in front of the building. Yup, green, like she had thought. As another woman passed her by and took to her own Ponyta, Rhia checked that Pokemon as well. Red this time, so not her group.
How many groups are going, and how many people are in each?
She hesitated, debating approaching the other member of her group, but a quick glance at the clouds reminded her that they were withheld only so long as the rain held out. If everyone else in her group had already gotten their Pokemon and supplies, she didn't want to be the one holding up the caravan. She needed to get her supplies first. She would have plenty of time to get to know her fellow caravan members later.
Pulling up the hood on her jacket, Rhia jogged out into the rain, heading back towards the center of towns and the shops.

Standing outside of the rest stop, he watched as the bustle of the town continued; those gaining their steeds, equipment, and those finally arriving to this area. Walking along the sidewalk, hands kept in the seclusion of his pockets, the breeders metal boots clinked with each step in a steady tempo. Listening to the pitter patter of the rain as it tapped at the different textures, his warm gold eyes kept to the ground, keeping any chance of eye contact impossible. Unless you were on the ground, of course. He never was one for crowded places. And this place was only going to get even more cramped. Glancing up, he could spy a few trainers returning and releasing their companions in his perifial vision, but that wasn't what caught his attention. Not too far ahead of him was a bench. And it was empty, thankfully. Making his way casually to it, he let a hand slip out of its confinment to unlatch a Poke Ball from his belt. Pressing the button in the middle, the ball enlarging, he aimed it towards the ground, causing a red laser to dart out from the center and shoot in a jagged line to touch the earth. A form began to appear in white, eventually darkening and gaining designs to that of an Absol. That slight hint of a smile twirked at the corner of his lips. The Absol looked up to the man, the same kind of smile growing on it's face. Easing down onto the bench, the breeder sat. The Absol padded loyaly after, and stood infront of its human. But it's head turned around, and tilted up to the sky. Just as the breeder had predicted, the canine enjoyed the persperation. Letting it's head peek out from the safety of the benches shelter, the Pokemon let the rain seep into the fur on it's face, sharp eyes closing to give a calm expression. Grinning, the trainer watched, hunched over, and resting his forearms on his thighs. Maybe things would calm down enough so he could get a chance to stock up on things as well... Perhaps it would during the night. Though the shady characters around might be more abundant then. It was a risk he was just going to have to take.

Zinnia stood near Bill's rental pokemon shop, an open backpack at her feet. She had several various items littering the ground around it, such as a hairbrush and some berries. She was packing them neatly into her backpack, one item at a time so that it would all fit and not be squished. Why she was doing that outdoors in the rain was a mystery. Zyk was in his accustomed place on Zinnia's shoulder, on the lookout for danger. Well, obviously, not literally on the lookout. He was a zubat and didn't have any eyes, but his hearing and echolocation was almost as good as having them. He wasn't going to let anyone or thing hurt his precious Zinnia. Shadow Mew, meanwhile, was hovering behind the pair, looking rather bored. She was stopping the rain from hitting all three of them by warping her usual force field bubble into a rounded surface. They were now standing under what appeared to be a giant purple umbrella. Zinnia looked up. "Well, Shadow," she said conversationally, "I'm ready." She zipped up her back pack. "Let's teleport there!" Being impatient, she didn't want to go at the caravan's pace. She would meet them in the town with the mysterious eevee population. In a flash of purple light, the girl, the zubat, the mew, and the strange umbrella had vanished. ((See you guys after day 2 :'D))

Introductions, in the rain sucked. Even though it was only a light shower, Tabitha didn't exactly enjoy the thought of having to make friendly with a ponyta while the sky spat on them. As it were she didn't have much of a choice as she made her way toward the stable where a few of the ponyta still remained. An older woman with a pichu had just ambled past her and she gave a slight smile and a nod as she went to pick out her own pokemon. Walking along the stalls she was careful to avoid the ponyta that stuck their flaming heads out to try and n** either her clothes or the small sachet of sugar cubes at her hip.
A series of snorts and whinnies drew her attention to a stall at the end of the row. A rather spirited ponyta was pacing the stall, snorting and pawing looking as though he was ready to trample the first person that came through that door. Clucking her tongue softly as she approached, Tabitha was rewarded with a low snort before the ponyta tried to n** her. Dancing back she grinned at the horse as he snorted and came at her again. This was the game she played as she lured the pokemon out of the stable and into the sheltered paddock.

(OOC: Retconning the bandana time!) As Anise, Felix and Ponyta got acquainted, Anise noticed several trainers pass by with their own rentals, which had a strip of colored cloth tied around a neck or leg. "I guess that was what this is for," she said as she pulled out the purple cloth that Bill had given her. After looking over Ponyta for a minute, she said, "Here, hold still a sec," then tied the cloth around the mare's neck. Ponyta looked down at the cloth briefly, then looked back at Felix, who had climbed up on her back. "You've made this trip before, right? Guess you're used to those."

Despite the rain, Lisa and her Ponyta were racing around the field. Bandit had taken up residence back on Lisa's head, clinging due to the bouncing inherent in galloping. After getting used to guiding the pokemon, Lisa steered it by the sheltered paddock, where she saw another red-banded ponyta and rider preparing. "Hello!" Lisa waved from the back of her pokemon.

Corn might have been little late to the party, but there was good reason. Procuring funding had taken priority, as had procuring a Pokemon to battle with (should the need arise) from a friend. She was now two for two, and ready to rent her ride.
A quick negotiation with rancher Bill and she had him - an Onix. Pity they couldn't start the ride in the rain! Oh well, time to socialize. Spotting a few clusters of folks round and about, Corn wanders over to one that's handy and drifts on the edge of the group, listening.

Tabitha had just gotten the Ponyta to settle down when the pokeball at her hip popped open and a Banette appeared in all her mad glory. Hissing at Yuzu, Tabitha stuck out her tongue when the Banette unzipped her mouth to cackle at her before zooming off to cause mischief somewhere no doubt. Hearing a voice behind her, Tabitha caught the Ponyta's reins in her hand before turning to return the wave. "Hi-ya!" She called before hauling herself up into the saddle.Click the picture for full size

Lisa chuckled as the Banette went loose. "I see you have a ghost pokemon as well. Mischievous, aren't they? By the way, I'm Lisa, pleasure to meet you. I see we're in the same group," she chimed, then bowed a little in her saddle. "So, are you excited about seeing the swarm? I'll admit I'm hoping to take one home with me. An eevee, that is." The ponyta Lisa was riding on snorted, looking at the other horse and rider combination that its rider was taking to. It stomped the ground, a challenge to a race.
