Lin tried not to giggle at that, Kaito was just as smart and she knew it, it was just Kaito was pretty average as a person. If one, got past his catty nature that is.

"Thanks, though I mean looking at it long term, I had always planned to be in the Four Lands for long periods of time, it's just...."

She needed help in teaching, she could only do so much herself especially if she wanted Miyuki to know at least a few Gaian traditions.

"I don't..." Lin hated to admit this, "Want to spend months here, not knowing the time difference back in the Four Lands."

Kaito grinned. "Well, I for one would be more than happy to go back there for longer periods of time. I'm sure even Shiro would, if he could come back here often enough to make sure he does enough work to get his bills paid on time."

Shiro's ear twitched and he looked over at the others. "Eh?" he blinked. "Where are we going?"

Lin resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Shiro. It was times like this that he seemed the most typical absent minded.

"Not unless you want to," she told him, "I was telling Shiro, it's hard to teach Japanese and Chinese, because I'm the only one who uses it. To teach her would mean to go for periods of time where no one else could understand me."

"Well then you have two options," Shiro said, blinking slowly. "Take someone with you who can speak them, or else teach them to someone in Arda with whom you always spend a lot of time."

To him it was that simple, though he wondered at the wisdom of introducing another language to a different world.

Lin didn't really have to think about it that much. To be honest it would be easier than having someone come with her on the whole trip.

"Teach it to another," she murmured, "If Earendil is willing."

Since she foresaw somehow that she woudl be spending a lot of time with him.

Kaito grinned and Ura snickered, but Shiro grimaced slightly.

"Lin," he said softly, leaning forward and putting one hand on her shoulder, "can I make a request?"

Lin blinked realizing that something had bothered Shiro.

"Yes?" she replied wondering what has bothering him so.

Shiro leaned a bit forward so that his brothers wouldn't overhear as much.

"Be careful with Earendil," he murmured quietly, trying to keep it between the two of them. "We may not have the same blood running through our veins, but he is my cousin ... and he is an elf. Elven emotions are much more a part of them than ours are. Even the most passionate Gaian love story is nothing compared to the love of the elves. I'm not asking you to rush or anything, but ... don't leave him hanging, either, and don't give him false hopes. Don't toy with him."

He knew Lin would never do anything intentionally to hurt Earendil, but he couldn't help but wonder if she realized what she was doing: making him so much a part of her life, and Miyuki's, without the promise of anything more than a simple friendship.

"I'm quite aware of that," Lin replied quietly, but trying to keep her anger under control.

Shiro meant well after all by it, Earendil was technically his cousin in the long complicated family tree that existed.

"I've lived over half my life with these people, there is a reason why I do not think this is as simple as Kaito makes it out to be."

Which was why she had to figure this out before she went back, because it simply would not work. Of course trying to was full of it's own problems Lin wasn't even aware of. It was a tug and pull between wanting to continue seeing Earendil and not wanting to burden him if she didn't love him.

Of course, one would think wanting to see him again would clue her in.

That did bring up a good point, one that probably made Lin more angry about than the fact he was warning her not to toy with her friend. There was no way around it, she couldn't imagine not being there with him, and she didn't want to travel alone. What was she to do? Never go back? Go back and never see him?

Shiro nodded. "I know. I just wanted to voice it so that somebody did. Because teaching him some languages that he would only ever be able to speak with you and Miyuki is only going to make things harder for him. And I know you want to do your best with Miyuki and teach her as much as you can, but it's not fair to bring Earendil into it if that's all he gets to do."

He was well aware that Lin could very well be angry with him for his words - he wasn't sure he wouldn't be if he were in her place - but either way it had to be spoken, if only to make her more aware of her own feelings.

She bit her tongue at anything she might have wanted to say to Shiro on the matter. Even though it was irritating, he was right about that. Though it didn't sit well with her that she would have to leave Earendil out like that.

Lin shrugged off his hand, "Fine, I get it."

Sometimes she wish she wasn't so emotional, it made her too readable.

Shiro nodded slowly, then turned back to his computer. "Let us know when you're going back?" he asked in a light tone, deciding not to press the issue. "I'd like to talk to some people and see if anything is known yet about what's going on in Amon Darthir."

Not to mention the other lands.

Lin nodded at this, glad that he was letting it go. Otherwise....

"Of course," she replied, "It should be only another week or so."

Lin didn't notice that Miyuki had stopped chatting with her doll and was sitting on the floor staring at Shiro with a foxy sort of stare. The one that Earendil once said was cute, though in this case it might be more creepy.

Shiro nodded and slipped back into his chair. "Just give me enough notice to pack," he requested. "Though I may not stay long, depending on the news."

He started tapping at his keyboard again, back to work.

"Okay," she murmured softly.

It seemed perhaps, quite awkward after that little display.

"Maybe I should go visit your mother," Lin murmured thoughtfully, "Come on Miyuki, I'm sure you'd like to play with the twins."

She forgot about her books and instead headed for the door.

"I'll see you three later for that sushi dinner sometime," she added.

With her back turned, Miyuki got up, rushed over and kicked Shiro's chair before running off to join her mother.
