The green looked back at her brown companion, but it looked like the game really was over. Fine. She had better go and find hers then. Head held high, she trotted eagerly towards the girls, accidentally knocking over a few in her excitement. Olla was one of the few who got whacked with her tail, and the green turned to peer owlishly down at her as if to say 'why did you fall down?'
Meanwhile the brown made his way slowly towards the boys, nudging one in the front row gently out of his way. Veyes and the nearby Efrain also received similar nudges, as though he was sorting the boys as he went. Then, without further ado, he rested his head against one boy's chest and closed his eyes.
Come, Gylren. Your Sharmanyth has found you and now it is time to eat.

Such a beautiful brown, the boy who had him must be so happy! She knew him to be Gylern, at least from his name and nothing else, so Millet didn't know the personality that came with him to merit a dragon. Still the girl could be really happy for him, who wouldn't be, so she knew he couldn't be a bad person. Dragons didn't pick bad people, even though sometimes the dragons themselves were weird. There was that angry blue from last time who picked that bully Janga, right? And then the angry brown and blue - so far this clutch had been so calm and safe. Millet liked that.
Now her attention quickly moved to the Gree that was knocking girls over as she moved. The little woman would have to be quick on her feet to avoid the tail coming into contact with her, she certainly didn't want to get hurt, but poor Olla! Hopefully she'd be okay in the end.

Lala quickly stepped to the side as the green headed for the girls, but, was bumped into all the same in the little dragons haste. Just enough to send her stumbling a bit, though she quickly caught her balance, spinning neatly on one foot so that she could look after the green as she passed. Cute little thing, but she certainly didn't watch where she was going. Lala watched to see who she would impress too, sparing only a glance for the pale brown that had claimed one of the boys already while his sister went about her antics. She didn't know any of the other candidates, having only been here a little over a day before the hatching began. Even if she didn't know her name, Lala still felt a little bad for the girl who ended up on the sandy ground when the green's tail walloped her. At least she didn't get stepped on.

Yes! The brown was going over to Veyes...
Oh.
Well.
Okay.
L'thor sighed again, pleased that the dragonet had Impressed without trouble but disapointed for Veyes. For a moment, it had looked as though the pale hatchling was going to go to him.
Still! The better option was still avaliable. She seemed to be looking at the girls right now, but she could easily pass over them and head to the boys. He hoped she did. Veyes would do well by a dragon. He knew a lot of the skills he would need to care for one already, nothing about handling the bond itself which was of course the most vital thing in the end but just about everything that could be taught without having a lifemate, Veyes now knew. Shards, he could even make a pair of straps that a senior weyrling wouldn't be ashamed of! He deserved this. He did.

A'ram squinted. Was that a brown or a bronze? It was very light. Rath peered more carefully at the hatchling that had just Impressed and said quietly to his rider, Brown. A fine one, too, if a little pale.
Your color's not so normal either, A'ram pointed out.
No. I am not bad-looking though.
Very secure in himself was Rath. He didn't mind that he was greying about the edges. It was a natural part of aging. A'ram had gone grey much earlier, and then he'd begun to lose his hair. Not that Rath remembered this himself, but he knew it had happened.
No. You are unique. There is nothing about you to be ashamed of about your hide or any other part of you.
They allowed the conversation to trail off as they went back to watching the buoyant green look for her rider among the girls. A'ram didn't exactly approve or disapprove of women on fighting dragons. He'd seen enough capable ones to know logically that they weren't all badly suited to it, but he remained convinced that a woman's position was that of subordinate and that they really belonged in the kitchen or the bedroom.

Veyes saw the beautiful brown move closer to him and...he had some sudden fleeting hope. Would this be the one? Was it finally his time to become a dragon rider. He could only capture that wish for that moment when he could tell L'thor that all that training and practice had not been for not. And for the day when he could write Conomor and tell him that finally, he was a rider.
However, the nudge...ever so gentle was just that a nudge. And Veyes shifted himself most respectfully out of the way. Not many dragons were that considerate as hatchlings so this was quite new to Veyes even if it wasn't his time, yet again. And well that short thought...it was sort of depressing but he didn't want to let it bring him down like it used to. He'd been rejected quite a few times already so this was nothing new. All he could do was try to be patience even if that was sometimes hard to manage.
As the brown dragon found its own, Veyes' drifted towards daydreams and imagined what it would have been like to have been that one's choice. Something about that one seemed very serene unlike others that ran about the sands looking for their own. It was rather quieting for a moment, even as Veyes turned his head away from that other's new found joy. One day, he'd be the right person too...one day.

If he was honest he was starting to loose intrest in the hatching, or maybe it was more acturate to say that he was trying to make himself loose inertrest in the hatching. After all it was the good gamblers number one rule, quite while your ahead. The more eggs that hatched the less his chances and after a while the constant rise of emotion when each egg hatched and dissapointment when it impressed to another. The hatching was going well though, that he would be happy about and yes, just leave it at that. Crush down the rest of his hopes for now and watch as a passive observer.
But his eyes put lies to these solem vows of self. They were fixed on every shake, every rock of the eggs then each step and wiggle of the young dragnets. It did help sooth him a little thought when he looked over at his newly aquainted fellow candidate Vesyes and noted that he seemed to be going through extreamly similar if not identical waves of hope and dissapointment. He hoped he wasn't that obvious though. Still he felt a brief pang of connection with the kid.
And of course in the next few moments any success he had manged to achive in indiffrence and a solid emotional defence was shattered and crushed into peices as tiny as the hot sand that scolded the soles of his feet, the brown that had onl reacently hatched and turned down the greens advances to play was now heading his way, so close he could almost touch it.
And then it touched him, in his vision for a moment the action was slowed so it looked like the brown was nuzzling him in affection, but no, it was merly a passing bump, one to Vesyes to, and then it was gone, off to find his true chosen partner. Ahh that had felt cruel but he couldn't be grudge the dragonet. It had only wanted to get by and he carefully looked back at the sands as he started to mentaly rebuild the emtional wall against the discouraging truth he had already accepted, in all likely hood his dragon wasn't one here.

Weyard was wise enough to move aside when the romping green hatched, then came towards the girls. Maulings weren't fun for anyone involved, and though the green looked peaceful, there was no telling how things would go. Still, it had been cute, seeing her interact with her brown brother (who now was resting his head just so against one of the boys.) She had her guesses about who the green would go to--being older meant she knew most of the candidates. The weyrbrats at least. Some she thought would match the rollicking girl just fine.
Uh oh, a girl had fallen! Wey glanced between her and the green, feeling little thrills of emotion. Would the green attack? Impress? Startle between...That really would be a shameful waste. Still...better a green than the... She glanced up from the pair to the still golden egg. ...

Aceth crooned quietly as her siblings hatched, though she was still quite occupied with the wherry she was eating. The bucket that S'ril had taken was near empty...
As the green and brown both hatched, S'ril wouldn't help but chuckle as the energetic girl danced around her brother.
They are being so slow! They should find Theirs, too! Aceth had taken a moment to look up at him, her firmness clear.
"They'll find Theirs soon enough," he responded as he offered her the last piece of meat from the bottom of the bucket, which he set neatly aside. "If you eat anymore, I won't be able to get you off of the sands."
I would get myself from the sands. She laid down now, though, which surprised S'ril - even while she ate, she had never stopped moving. That made him panic slightly that he had allowed her to overeat- and right out of the egg! I have not overeaten, but I notice that we don't get to leave yet, and I'm tired of standing. I wish they wouldn't take so long! It took S'ril a good amount of effort not to laugh aloud as he sat on the bench next to her, rubbing her head gently as the events continued before them. It seemed that the brown had found His- now was the just the energetic green active on the sands at the moment, and even though she had knocked one of the girls over, S'ril could feel the quiet reassurance and calmness from Aceth that caused him not to worry that something worse would happen.
I hope that Julian Impresses as well. Wouldn't that be something, at his first Hatching!

Well, and that one must be too absorbed in His -- that was fine, Iden thought, since he couldn't blame him... He looked up curiously, to see what was going on elsewhere on the sands. For now, it seemed that Salth's belly was becoming full so he could slack off on cutting meat to fill it.
It seemed a brown had Impressed, and now a little green was scuttling about knocking over girls. It was sort of cute, he thought, but -- oh! His little friend, Millet, was out there, wasn't she? Shards, that was a little worrying. Hopefully, that little green hadn't knocked her over, or hurt her... Iden bit his lower lip a little, frowning faintly. She was awfully small...
It is all right, Idenmine, came Salth's voice in the back of his mind, quiet and mellow. My clutchmate does not seem to be cruel.
"I know," said Iden aloud with a little grin as he gently rubbed along the ridge above one peacefully-whirling blue eye. "Thank you..." Still, he would check on Milly when he got the chance.

Olla received a few more pokes and snuffles before the green trotted off, tail held high as she made her way through the rest of the candidates. She made one full circuit of the girls, seemingly unaware of her own body size as she brushed very close to many of them. It was a sheer miracle that no one got a wing-claw to the eye or something equally as violent. Still, the dragonet didn't seem to be angry or frightened, just very excitable and clumsy, something that people would be pressed to find fault with.
As she made her way back towards the front, she bugled to her hatch brother, only to find that he was more interested in a human than her. How rude! Rustling her wings, the green huffed softly and trotted back into the midst of the girls. If he was going to pick a male playmate than she would just have to find someone else!
Her good mood returned as she darted towards one particular girl and all but scooped her up onto her back by ducking between her legs.
Lala! You do not know how to play well. But don't worry! Your Perditith will teach you all she knows!

The Broken Heart Egg and the Multiberries Egg began to wobble simultaneously, seemingly helping each other hatch by bonking against each other.

Oh bother.
Not for Veyes.
There were more eggs yet though, and two of them beginning to move. Maybe one of this couple would choose Veyes... In the brief lull, however, he found his mind wandering to Panata again. Might there be a clutch at Ghenza while he was there? He hoped somebody would look after the lad if there was, being in a strange place and facing up to your fears would be hard... if the Ghenzans even let outsiders anywhere near their eggs...
There was nothing he could do though, for either for his young friends. Veyes would Impress or he would not, and Panata would be alright or he would not. He wished there was something he could do. Being powerless was no fun at all.

Avery hid a smile behind her hand as she quickly stepped aside to avoid the green, watching her jostle more than a few girls. It was perfectly friendly, but that tail was powerful and she didn't fancy a bruising thump.
It looked as if she was about to chase her brown brother down for another playdate when he Impressed and she followed suit, running between one lucky girl's legs.
Still, her attention quickly found its way to the rocking eggs, in-sync with one another as they worked to free themselves. They were, of course, more interesting to the remaining candidates than anything else going on.

When the green kept making her laps it did make Millet a little nervous, she wasn't going to lie about it, so she did feel some relief when the green went over to a woman and scooped her up. Hurry for Impression, hurry for the person! The girl who had just been picked, Millet didn't know her at all. She was a trader from what she'd heard, so maybe later she should seek her out? It was always good to meet new people, new riders mostly. They were the future of the Weyr right?
She would have clapped for the pair who just went were she allowed to, but instead she let her happiness show in a grin on her face. This was so exciting, she loved it down here amongst everyone. She had almost forgotten things were still ongoing when the sound of clanking eggs caught her attention and she swung to look at the two eggs knocking against one another, eyes wide. What now?

Amishan ran in. He couldn't believe he was late! He looked around, then stood back, looking around at everyone. Shard he was an idiot but... he'd been dealing with something... personal. His stomach WOULD turn on him, today of all days. He noted all the matchings and was pleased indeed for the others... And disappointed at his body's betrayal of himself. How could... He wouldn't go over it over and over. So he waited, watching, moving quietly forwards to see what happened amongst the others, his eyes moving around the excitement, trying to avoid being in anyone's way at the same time.
