"Finishing his food quickly and downing some water, Sarutobi wiped his face with his sleeve. "You'll learn more about him at the Memorial Festival of lights. That is, if you can conquer this jutsu. As for why it died like that, it's because by forcing it to grow with chakra, you're inhibiting the natural flow of nature chakra and not allowing it to do its thing. You seem to be greatly overlooking what I've said time and time again about nature chakra. Open your eyes and your senses to it. You can hear it, feel it, and see it around you. Maye not in its purest form, but it is there and tangible. Once you can truly take heed of its presence, then this jutsu will make sense to you."

Standing up, Sarutobi hoped that he was finally getting through to the boy. Jumping back up into the tree he shouted, "Back to work with you!"

((lol theres a reason just about every RPC in POTS has the tactical ninja trait. Learning posts are really tough))

After poppin the last of his food into his mouth he stood up and glanced at his tree, which looked as if it had been dead for several years. It might even fall before they finished training, which didn't look to be anytime soon. He brushed some dirt off his pants and took a moment to feel refreshed before getting back to work. "Food is a wonderful thing" he said aloud before reforming the handseals. At this rate he'd memorize the seals pretty darn well, it was a shame he wasn't getting much closer with the actual jutsu however. Channeling his chakra he poured it into the ground at his feet and attempted to nurture a tree and simply help it grow as his sensei had suggested. However, after a long wait, there was little more than a small sprout breaking from the ground. "Nope, no luck..." he muttered to himself and kicked the sprout, watching it spring back into position. "Grow already!"
[post 600098.5]

He frowned, still holding the handseals he put a little more urgency into the jutsu, as if hurrying the tree to grow. It began to grow a little more noticeably, but it was slow going and he still felt no connection to the tree. It seemed to him that it would feel like a little more than a tree if he was doing things right. "What the hell is natural chakra?" he asked aloud, not really expecting an answer. He sat down with a frown. "Hmm... what would Luo say?" He put on his best imitation of the kage's voice "I haven't got a clue" that didn't help much considering. He had called for this guy to do the training after all.
[post 7]

Then he remembered their meditation practice. Normally it wasn't his type of thing, but it had helped a little. He crossed his legs and closed his eyes, attempting to find this "natural chakra. Eventually he felt some sort of tingling in his skin, but no matter how he concentrated he couldn't find much more. Opening his eyes he turned back to his sensei. "How do I find it?"

"It's all around you kid!" Sarutobi shouted from his perch. He seemed both excited and agitated, as if the boy had literally been sitting on the answer this whole time....and in fact he was. "If every living thing requires chakra, and trees, plants, grass, animals, and humans all are living, then by default what do the things around you consist of! Feel it kid, hear it, see it! Dammit, you're butt is right on the damn thing. You are training in one of the largest concentrations of natural chakra in the five great nations; you can't tell me you feel nothing around. Try again."

Masaki frowned and concentrated again. "Everything has chakra huh?" He stood up and performed the seals and concentrated his chakra. Once again he poured it into the ground, but this time he figured he could put it through the existing plantlife. He had no clue how to find the Natural chakra so he decided to take a shot in the dark. This time a tree sprouted from the ground once more, it had an unusually smooth bark, and a greenish tint, but it grew a little quicker than the last one. It only reached an end height of 6 feet however. Masaki couldn't compel it to grow much further no matter how he tried.
[post 9]

Once again he broke the jutsu. "This stupid jutsu is going to suck me dry at this rate." Not that he was likely to give up because of it, it was merely an observation. He was relying too much on the "natural chakra" in the grass without knowing enough about it. That much was getting pretty clear. While the tree wasn't wilting after he broke the jutsu it was also hardly a spectacular acheivment. From the looks of it he had created some unusual grass/tree monstrosity rather than the chakra tree his sensei had made. He focused, closing his eyes. Thin streamlets of chakra extended from his feet, in all directions like roots of a tree. With these streamlets he expected to be able to get a better feel of this "nature chakra" that he wasn't able to perceive normally.
[post 10]

After several moments he finally found it. It was a spectacular yet highly unusual feeling, almost a taste, of the nature. Suddenly he got a small sense of all the life that was surrounding him. It was as if the life around him had it's own heartbeat. He opened his eyes and looked around. He still couldn't see any "chakra" like they say some can see, but he had a better Idea of how it all worked.
[post 11]
((This gave me an interesting Idea for a jutsu...))

He took a wide stance and once more performed the seals for the jutsu. This time when he molded his chakra he was able to put it in tune with the life around him, and built on that chakra. He briefly pictured what he would see if he could see the chakra, it was as if he was standing in a sea of green light. Of course that was merely his imagination, but it was beautiful nonetheless. He created a seed for his tree, and using a mixture of the natural chakra and his own Mokuton chakra he cultivated it and helped it grow. It was bizarre, as most things mokuton managed to be. Suddenly it was as if the seedling that he had planted was growing on it's own, and it was damned quick too. Eventually He felt a firm pushing force from behind knocking him forward.

After stumbling a little he regained his balance and turned to look at his creation. Before him, Stood one of the most bizarre trees he had ever seen. It branched off in unusual, almost aesthetic ways, and it's bark had an unusual texture to it. A glance at his sensei's tree made it clear that Masaki had created a most unusual style of tree. He put his foot to the side, and found it stuck just like it would if he had used the wall climbing jutsu. Except he hadn't, which was fortunate since he probably didn't have much left. He then stepped onto the tree in full. What he couldn't feel before became plain as day through the unusual tree, he felt an unusual swirling breeze around him, and could somehow feel an aura surrounding the tree. A bird landed on it's branches, near the top of the tree. He could feel it as if it had landed on his arm.
He took several steps up the tree noting that it was almost easier than walking on the ground. He turned to look at his sensei, beaming. "This it?" He asked, unsure if he was merely hallucinating from chakra loss.

((Wow, that 11th post sure was helpful.))

For a moment everything was quite silent as Sarutobi began to drift off to sleep. He got in a good twenty minutes of sleep, and was nearing a half hour when he heard the satisfying sound of wood bursting through earth, dirt, roots, and rocks. Lifting up from his comfortable position, he turned to face the tree which was growing in front of him a few yards away. The tree was odd looking or rather, quirky. However, Sarutobi attributed that to most likely being Masaki's nature. Hopping down from his tree, Sarutobi rushed towards Masaki and rubbed the boy's head quickly and rather roughly, chuckling with a huge grin as he shouted in excitement, "Hey, you did it kid! I didn't think you had it at first, but you really surprised me there!"

Picking up Masaki by his shoulders, he spun the boy around four times before releasing him and setting him down. It was very evident on the man's face that he was very proud of Masaki, and even impressed with the boy for having the ability to learn something that powerful; it seemed that talent ran in Masaki's family. "I'm proud of you kid, I don't think there are many genin who can do what you just did, and you should be proud too."

Taking a step back, Sarutobi bowed to signify that for now Masaki's training was done, hoping that perhaps the manners Luo was treaching to the boy would seep through and he'd bow as well in respect to his Mokuton sensei. Standing upright, he forced a seal and caused his tree to splinter and burst quickly, and as it did the wood and leaves disintegrated into green chakra strands which floated into the trees of the rainforest all around, leaving no trace behind. "Well, as promised I'll meet you at the memorial festival of lights and show you who the previous mokuton users of Kiri were and their stories as well. I suggest you get rid of your tree too so you can surprise Luo for your final test before you guys leave tonight."

Masaki was beyond confused when the man picked him up and started spinning him. It took him a moment to recollect himself after the unusual experience and respond to the man. "ummm, I'm kinda tired and don't actually know the way... would you mind leading me back since Luo is gone?" His question was a little hesitant, as he was still trying to figure out the man's odd behavior. He repeated the seal the man demonstrated, and let out another minor burst of chakra, the tree he had created splintered along the unusual trunk, and began to collapse in various chips and chunks of dead wood which then started to crumble and fade into the surrounding forest. It was like watching a tree decay except a lot faster. He then turned to his sensei and waited for him to lead the way. It had been several days of training and he hadn't exactly been in much of a position to keep track of the route they got here by.

"Hmm, well I would take you back but I think Luo is going to do that. He still wants to test you and see if you are capable of chaining together everything you've learned so far. I'm sure you'll do fine though, just make sure to use the chakra drain tree towards the middle of the fight and use it for cover. To Luo the tree will look normal and he'll just see it as a way for yo to take cover and create more wood to use and will no doubt go after you. Remember all that he taught you, including your reaction time training. Finally, don't forget to take off your weights after warming up with him before the spar. No need to hinder yourself against the guy."

Patting Masaki on the shoulders with one hand on each one, his dark green eyes stared down at the boy as he smiled a bit as he heard Luo approaching from a distance. "Well kid, I'll see you at the festival. Remember everything I taught you and you'll do fine in this tournament. I believe in you buddy." Nodding, he stepped back and placed his mask back onto his face as Luo emerged from the brush. As the kage scratched his head looking at the random logs and pieces of bark lying around, Sarutobi gave a quick bow.

"Well Mizukage-sama, he's all yours. The kid does pretty well for himself as long as you give him a kick in the butt here and there. You certainly picked a good kid, a great decision as always Luo-sama." Standing with his hands behind his back and his legs shoulder width apart, he waited for his superior and former classmate to dismiss him. He remembered Luo fondly in the academy days and some of the missions they went on when they were younger together. He was a decent guy in general and a good shinobi. He hoped to get some sparring time in with the kage soon though, it had been a while since they fought.

Masaki nodded. He was a bit intrigued by the idea of fighting the Mizukage, he could possibly even get a good idea how much stronger he had become. When Mokkuzai mentioned the weights, Masaki grabbed his wrist and felt the weight that he had been wearing. He had completely forgotten that those were there. He nodded when the man said they'd meet at whatever festival he had been going on about. Masaki was never one for festivals, so he didn't even really know that there was/would be one to attend. Still, If he found it then it was likely that Mokkuzai would find him.

When Luo appeared, Masaki bowed, and let him and Mokkuzai take care of their business. part of him wanted to blurt out what he had learned, but Mokkuzai had suggested that he wait to reveal that information. So he kept quiet, with a knowing smile on his face, and waited to be addressed.

Bowing lightly towards Sarutobi, Luo nodded and muttered, "Thank you Sarutobi for your help, I really appreciate it, and I'm sure Masaki is thankful as well." Nodding and looking around for a moment, he didn't bother to ask about the random bark and logs laying about seeing as how their training consisted of manipulating wood anyway. "Well Sarutobi, your help was greatly appreciated, you are free to leave for the festival. I will hopefully see you soon." As the man knelt in the traditional ANBU bow, he stood and winked at Masaki. As wood spiraled around him, it receded back into the ground quickly taking him as well.

As the man took his leave, Luo turned back to Masaki. "Well, I hope you learned some interesting things. So, let's get back to the basics of kicking, punching, and then putting those into combinations. After that, we'll get some sparring in and head back to Kiri. So, let's get back into the water." Nodding, Luo jumped into the water, dropping a bag that he procured from somewhere unknown while he was gone. Unbeknown to Masaki, it was a gift for him.

Masaki watched as the man jumped into the water. That food might just have saved my life he thought privately as he was submerged in the water. He resurfaced for a moment to pull his breather out of his pouch and place it over his face. That probably saved his life too... Once again he dove under and searched for his sensei so they could begin training.

As the boy submerged himself after realizing he forgot his mask, Luo began practicing his kicks and every different variant of kick as well. He focused on the three tier kicks for a slightly longer period than the rest since it was that kick stance Masaki originally had the most trouble with. After focusing on those for a while, he moved on to punches, going through the routine they've had for the past few days. Finally, he started to chain them together underwater, moving quite fast underwater as he usually did.

After doing these for a while, once he felt satisfied with this and could tell that the routine was no longer tiring for Masaki, he motioned for the pair to get up and out of the water with a thumbs up. Jumping out and back onto the land, he thrust his hands out, using water manipulation to cause the water on his body to fling off in hundreds of droplets, leaving him dry. As Masaki would come to the top and either do the same or remain wet, he flipped back and took the zero stance, a stance of many Luo knew and mastered. With his body in one vertical line and his legs together, one arm behind his back, and the other out in front of him, his right hand which was out beckoned Masaki forward as he muttered, "Final training session Masaki. Let us see just how much you have learned in your time here."

Luo left his weights on quite on purpose. He wanted to slow down his movement speed and even though he could do it consciously, this assured he didn't move faster than jounin level. He would now test Masaki on all that he learned and how to apply it. And he certainly hoped for Masaki's sake that he had learned well.

After recollecting himself underwater he saw that Luo had already begun going over the kicks. Quickly Masaki fell into step repeating the kicks over and over again. The first couple attempts at each kick were a little slow and awkward, but he caught on quickly after he warmed up. By time Luo got to the hard kicks Masaki was already well warmed up and had little difficulty at all even with the highest ones. However, at this point Masaki couldn't help but feel that things were getting repetitive. He started doing combo kicks earlier than Luo had, Luo seemed to want to spend a little more time on the hard kicks than Masaki really needed.

After a long warm up of kicks in the water Masaki and Luo surfaced, and climbed out of the water.Masaki watched Luo drain the water from his body using water manipulation, and decided it would indeed be easier to do the same. He had already gotten a nice hint of what was coming next, and knew that he didn't want anything holding him down. Luo assumed his starting position and Masaki pulled the weights off of his limbs. As much as he liked a challenge, fighting Luo without weights was still more than enough. He wondered briefly, how many of the other ninja in the village would piss themselves in his situation. He was probably to stupid to piss himself, but that didn't make this situation very different from any other. Masaki dropped the weights and charged at Luo, starting with a sweeping kick at his ribs following up with another kick at his legs.

As the boy neared, Luo's stance didn't falter until the last moment necessary. As Masaki's first kick aimed for Luo's ribs, his right arm parried the leg down with an open handed block. Lifting his other leg, he used his shin to block the other kick meant for his leg and simultaneously whipped his left arm from behind his back into a straight punch for the boy's chest before following up with a front flip over him, bending down, and sweep kicking to knock the boy off balance hopefully.

In just blocking the boy's attacks, he could tell that his kicks were both faster and stronger. He had improved already without really knowing it. However, Luo would continue to push his limits and see just how much faster and how much stronger the boy had become.

Masaki watched as if in slow motion as his kicks were blocked like they were nothing. Luo then followed up with a fancy punch, which effectively knocked Masaki back, forcing him to catch himself with his kicking foot. He barely even realized Luo's next kick before Masaki fell into a roll. He stumbled to his feet and then backed up slowly to put some distance between them. He had learned two things: There was no chance in a purely physical attack. This wasn't a big surprise. He also got a small level in confidence in that he had dodged one of the man's attacks, even if it basically ended with the same result.

So he moved back, he needed a new way to attack. He had a few options. He stared at the man, as he thought to himself. I can hit him Once again he charged. This time however, his attack would work. His hands flashed quickly, forming the seals for one of his new jutsu. When he was about 5 feet away from his target, A log burst from the ground under his right foot, giving him a quick boost. Another Log Sprouted just behind Luo to limit his choices. His left leg then found itself rising in the air, and then crashing straight down at Luo's head. With luck, this extra boost would be enough. It was a risky attack and even the berseker managed to realize that.

Spurting forth towards Luo with some momentum to boot, Luo heard the ground break behind him; no doubt a second log from the jutsu he just performed. Deducing that each log most likely had the same launch pattern, he forced one seal and quickly held both hands up in a cross pattern to block the aerial attack. As he did, a pocket of wind (Air pocket burst) 'popped' in front of the log behind him, effectively deflecting the attack and sending the log off course. "Huh, the weight training certainly paid off; good form on the kick itself too."

Expelling just enough power with his arms to launch the boy off, Luo decided to give the boy some courtesy and for the most part use hand seals like he was forced to. Flipping back once, Luo's muscles coiled as he landed backwards, using that same momentum to launch himself forward and up towards Masaki before he got a chance to land. Nearing the genin, he twisted his body and attempted to land a blow on his stomach in order to damage the lower ribs; not too much force though, just as much force as a genin would have, which was still enough on its own. As his foot connected with either a block of his stomach, Luo used that foot and pushed off backwards into a spin going the other way, using the deceptive movement to launch three kunai within each turn, landing gently on top of two adjacent bamboo stalks.
