LT walked up the paths of Kiri's mist filled parks with a gentle roll of thunder being heard in the distant. He was taking the long way on his errand and had already made an . . . emotional stop at the cementary to visit all of his old friends and fellow warriors who had passed. Granted the scenary had changed greatly from the monument filled shrines of the Mist cementary to the calm damp parks filled with green trees, scattered playgrounds, and numerous paths. It had also seemed that the storm was rolling in from the coast and was spreading a slight rain over all of Water Country for the next few hours. It was a calming rain, something almost cleansing and soothing to LT's mind as he walked still stuck in the sentimental mood of missing all he cared for. As he walked he just repeated the same list quietly to himself over and over not minding much else except the rain as he walked heading towards the residentual district where the various clans' compounds were located.

The Jonin walked slowly taking in the scenery as he thought about how sad it was that his friends would never experience something like this ever. His walk slowed as he noticed a pair of chipmunks chasing each other in the rain and he stopped to watch their race. He slung his black package/box's strap higher on his shoulder then stuffed both of his hands into his pockets fishing around for his cigarettes and lighter. Finally after several seconds he produced both from a pocket inside his flackvest. He bit the cigarette and flipped open the lighter which hissed a little as a few rain drops licked the flame. He took in a deep drag and held it, letting the smoke fill his lungs and clear his mind. As he let the smoke out into the sky he imagined that all of his troubles and burdens were carried away in that smoke. It was such a silly thing to think.

------------------------------

Masaki followed his teacher into the park, which honestly was a little like returning to home. He hadn't been here since he graduated the academy and was given an apartment. Then Himura drew his real blade. Well that's interesting. Perhaps he was to be killed here in his element. No. He hadn't done anything yet, not achieved any real level of power. He rubbed his ribs once more, the walk had given him a little time to assess the damage more clearly and it appeared to be harmless. Just painful. If the man decided to pull something like that again it would cost Masaki his life. He frowned again staring at his target. They were on solid, familiar ground. He took his time preparing for the next attack. While he wasn't afraid of the blade, it did mean he had to be much more serious now. It also meant that if Himura was getting tired of training him he wasn't going to stop he would simply make the kill. Noone draws a sword if they are just going to back down. The same trick clearly wouldn't work, especially since it didn't work the first time. What was wrong with his earlier attack? Was something wrong with it or was he just reminding Masaki who is stronger? He positioned his arms. He seemed to be moving backwards a little in the last two attempts. back to the basics.

He positioned his less damaged left arm towards his target and the other slightly back. He didn't have any other tricks that he could... No. He lowered them, and once again sheathed the tonfa, watching the man in case he got impatient and attacked. He had one trick. Solid Earth underneath, rich with water and trees. The man wasn't lying when he said Masaki was in his element here. He performed the full set of handseals this time before he resumed his position and burst forward. Their weapons were too different. A sword is a weapon of distance, they do not work well in tight quarters like forests but a beach is perfect. Tonfa seemed to be as close range as fists which made them perfect here. A pulse of chakra slammed into the ground as he muttered the name of the jutsu. "Mokuton: wooden pillar" As he neared his target one log burst from the ground directly to the man's right, and another horizontally from the trees. They were far enough the Masaki could still get inside the man's attack range, but with that sword he could only stab or attempt a slash towards Masaki's left. His left arm was prepared to deflect a slash and his right prepared to strike the man's neck. He wouldn't leave anything to chance though. He would strike aim the tonfa and the length of his arm for the neck and put all of his weight into it. As he got launched himself in for the final attack one puzzling thought managed to cross his mind. What if I die?

Jutsu 1: Mokuton: wooden pillar
The user can call upon up to two logs of wood from the ground or some other wood, and use it to hit a target, block an attack or other purposes. Pillar can reach a maximum of 5 feet in length and 1 foot wide, appearing almost instantaneously. Hits with the same force as a Genin rank taijutsu specialist's punch. Takes 2 genin level jutsu to destroy. one Katon jutsu of any rank can light it on fire, or incinerate it.

Tactics. Go figure. Himura was learning to expect the unexpected from this boy. Initially, he had assumed masaki would use a Mokuton jutsu to attack him directly, but instead, used it to hamper his striking direction. With the wooden pillars forming a T shape on his right side, Himura couldn't optimally move his sword hand, his only available strike being from the left side. Fine, then. Himura did exactly that, his right arm crossing over his body, then swinging, the force of his blade cutting into the wooden tonfa if Masaki did not use the angle block. Had Himura had more time to prepare, and had the logs not been right next to him, Himura would have sheathed his blade for battojutsu, but perhaps when using his real blade, cutting his power was a good thing.

As the other Tonfa came in at the right, Himura tilted his head as far left and back as it would go, the tonfa coming in hard against his jaw rather than his neck. Had Himura moved into his sword strike, he could've avoided the attack completely, but putting the force of movement behind his sword swing might accidentally cut through the tonfa and kill Masaki, something he wasn't eager to do. The old jounin was careful not to bite his tongue as his jaws clenched together, the hard wood of the tonfa creating a resounding crack.

Of course, Himura was far from done. With his left hand, he ripped the sheath of his sword from his sword belt, the strike lower than the actual sword, which was currently locked with the left Tonfa. As it came into contact with Masaki's kidney, Himura smiled behind his mask. "Clever." He said, dropping the sheath to the ground and extending a hand to Masaki, "But never assume and opponent's remaining hand is idle in battle. Just as you use two weapons, so must you expect the same of your enemies." Himura brought his other hand to his chin, rubbing the spot where the Tonfa had connected. Himura was lucky his jaw wasn't broken, but he could feel the beginning of a crack, and knew that the bruise underneath wouldn't be too different from the color of the mask he wore. Maybe I'm just getting old..... he thought, before looking down at Masaki clenching his side. ".......naah, not yet."

(Technique used: Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu: Souryusen (Dragon Paired Flash))

(For an example of the sheath's grip/strike, refer to this video at 13:20)

(Note: No, I did not base Himura off of Kenshin, though I see their similarities.)

((so... now that he hadn't actually had a chance to deflect any of the force... did Himura hit hard enough to cause any bad internal damage (specifically the kidney)? I didn't imagine you'd let him get a strike in, but it would take effort for him not to hit you at that point.))

The man's counterattack was brutal, but Masaki couldn't have stopped his momentum if he wanted to. He felt the blow, but the man had used both his hands to counter rather than defend. His right arm reached forward and slammed all his momentum into the man's neck. It wouldn't be a killing strike, considering the man was probably skilled and strong enough to avoid having his windpipe crushed completely, but it connected and Masaki pushed through the man once more clutching where he was hit. He could taste blood, and spat some at the ground before preparing for another strike. The opponent would probably have a hard time breathing, maybe even cough up some blood of his own, but Masaki watched him closely. If it looked like he was in serious trouble he would help the man to the hospital, and if the man attacked Masaki would have to fight back anyways. What happened next was the man's choice. Masaki's own stance was not proper, for his left arm was held against the pain in his chest as if to stop anything from leaking out. Of course it was just a sheath strike so there was no worry about that, but the pain was... painful.

LT continued on after the leaves swaying a bit in the forest, and he walked up the paths of Kiri's mist filled parks with a gentle roll of thunder being heard in the distant and the grey sky on the verge of opening up to rain. LT still had his cigarette in his hand as he he heard the sound of fighting not far off in the distant. The sounds made the Jonin curious to see if it was some of the academy students being over zealous in their training or if it was a all out fight. Regardless LT walked up the path and noticed the familar white hair of the Hatake and the young Masaki having at it some ways off the path.

The Jonin walked up slowly taking in the scenery as he stood off to the side giving a wide birth from the two shinobi fighting, he leaned himself agains a tree puffing at his cigarette while having his other hand stuffed into his pocket. The rain cloud began to drip a little and LT laid the black wrapped package he was carried on the ground underneathe him so as to not get the gift wet. As he watched the battle progressed and flipped open the lighter which hissed a little as a few rain drops licked the flame and he closed it again, trying as best he could to be a wall flower and not interrupt the training. He took in a deep drag and held it from his old cancer stick, letting the smoke fill his lungs and clear his mind once again as he watched the fight. Seeing Yamatano's father made him wonder just what that boy was up to, and Kaizen too.

Masaki ignored the hand that Himura offered him. I just don't get people sometimes... He thought, as he stood slightly annoyed. Knocking someone on their feet and then helping them back up. It just seemed... backwards. Why knock someone down if you'll do all the work helping them back up? that seemed mean spirited. It made more sense to let them get up on their own, that way they actually gain something. Noone gets stronger when the way is paved ahead of them.

His smile however, did not waver. He was in considerable pain from the man's strikes, which meant he was getting real training. Even better, his sensei was no longer unscathed, which meant it was making him stronger. This was a perfect training session in every way he could fathom. He didn't pay the man's words much heed, since taking that blow meant delivering one, but he wasn't entirely dense enough to completely ignore the lesson. The taste of blood seemed stronger now, but the boy could not step down in the face of such progress. They could drag his body to the hospital when he could no longer sustain his conciousness. "But I got you." He said between breaths. "What's next? This is getting fun!"

Himura stooped down to pick up his katana and sheath, sliding the blade into the latter as he reattached it to his hip, listening to Masaki's incredulous joy at hitting Himura. I'll have to make sure he doesn't do that again. The man thought, drawing his bokken once more. As he drew, Himura's eye caught the eye of one Tares Demascus, current Jounin Commander of Kirigakure. Despite being twice the man's age, Tares was still his commanding officer, even though Himura had all but completely retired from active duty. Himura offered the man a nod of recognition before turning back to masaki. "Now, its my turn."

Despite holding back, Himura was practically a blur to Masaki as he took off, but LT would be able to see every movement clearly. Himura had shot right, bounced off a tree, and appeared behind Masaki, Bokken poised in a diagonal downward slash approaching masaki's right shoulder. Himura left himself open to possible counterattack, but then again, that was the point of this exercise.

LT smiled and returned the Hatake's nod, it had been some time since Hiruma and Tares were working together, for Hiruma was a generation or tw of shinobi classes before him. Sometimes he was thought to be one of Himura's boys because of this silver hair which often misconstruded him as a Hatake. LT didnt mind of course, he was honored to be thought of as a member of such a notable clan. Even their bond went beyond the work place as LT's Demascus clan and Himura's Hatake Clan were friends before then with the Demascus crafting numerous amount of weapons for the Hatake to use on ... and off the battlefield for that matter. As he thought about this his eyes drifted dwn to he long black box he was carrying and is supposed to deliver. Eh. The man was busy so LT decided to wait, it wasnt like he had anything else to do with his free time.

User Image

A light spinkle of rain was cast down on the park and LT wondered if it wuld effect the comba training, wuld it give the Mokuton user an advantage with his Jutsu that needed earth and water? Or would it still give a lead o the more experienced figher who has fought in these conditions thousands of times before. LT watched as Old Man Hatake took off again with incredible speed.

------------------------------

Despite his fighting spirit, Masaki noticed his movements were starting to slow. Not significantly, but his body was beginning to acknowledge the damage from the training. His eyes were possibly more lucid because of it however, since the pain, thrill, and adrenaline were keeping him very alert. Even so, when the man moved, it was very difficult to track the man. As he bounced around him though, Masaki turned reflexively to follow the blur. It was true the man was much much faster, but he was taking the long way. It takes less effort and time to turn from the center of a circle than from the outside. There was a word for that, but he didn't know. By time his sensei was hurling towards him Masaki was facing the same direction He saw the man's movements just clearly enough to get the direction of his attack. His left arm shot up (since Himura was now slashing towards his left shoulder due to the turnaround) as his kegs bent. He angled it and pushed up and away, so the bokken would be redirected without delivering any real force into his tonfa. His right arm hooked around and pushed out, so while the strike was deflected, Masaki would punch towards the man's rib, theoretically, knocking him off balance. The new visitor would have escaped the boy's notice completely if Older Snake Guy hadn't nodded towards him. Suddenly Masaki began to worry. What if the new guy was launching an attack too? Masaki pushed forward and past his sensei, whether the strike connected or not, and turned around so he was facing both men just in case.

"Good!" Himura yelled as Masaki deflected the bokken, sidestepping to avoid Masaki's punching attack. While the boy distracted himself with LT, Himura stepped back a few steps, throwing his left arm in front of him, bringing his right hand to his chest, the tip of the bokken barely reaching the gap between his thumb and forefinger. With just a moment's pause, and a lack of concern for masaki's less than optimal defensive position, Himura charged. Despite holding his speed back once again, the thrust was always a fast charging move, and this thrust in particular, one that Himura developed over a lifetime of battles, was also a powerful finishing move. Simple deflection would not stop this, Masaki would have to think outside the box to fend off Himura. Or dodge completely, but Himura imagined that that wasn't Masaki's style. Upon reaching Masaki, Himura would thrust his right arm out completely, his left hand stabilizing the thrust as he aimed for Masaki's midsection, and obvious spot, but effective nonetheless.

(Yes, I AM ripping off another move from Rurouni Kenshin. This is pretty much a word for word copy of Saito Hajime's signature attack, Gatotsu.)

LT puffed on his cig watching the fight, the Masaki boy improved greatly since the last time LT saw him, but he wondered if the boys social skills improved as well. As the boy launched a counter attack and turned so he face both Hatake and LT, the Jonin couldnt help but smile. It felt good that all he had to do was stand here and he was still, even if slightly, considered a possible threat, but that was just Masaki being safe rather than sorry. Though the action wasnt needed as LT would rarely, if ever, interrupt someones training. He was here on different business.

User Image

A light spinkle of rain dripped from LT's chin and hair as he saw the Himura pause and then try a different approach, It was a thrust attack that LT himself saw Hatake use to eliminate opponents well beyond LT's own sword skill and even though he wasnt in the fight, he winced in anticipation. Still even though it was training, it would be very interesting to see what "Woody" would do in this situation. LT couldnt help but laugh at himself for making an on the fly nickname for the mokuton user. He wondered if it would stick.

((sorry, been busy. HAven't even had time to answer your PM. Seemed like a good time to show he isn't suddenly a complete expert at fighting. Don't worry LT until you are directly involved in the RP (rather than just watching) I will assume you do not need to be in the posting order.))

Masaki wasn't sure how to deflect the next strike, and didn't have much time to figure out a way due to the speed behind it. He would have to dodge. He pushed off towards the man, but rather than trying to deflect, block or counterattack he dropped into a quick roll past the man. It would probably at least somewhat unexpected to the man, normally if one was to try and dodge they would do it sideways or backwards rather than forwards. Masaki only half-realized that moving forward was the only way to dodge without the man easilly readjusting his attack, it was mostly just the fact that forward tended to be the only direction he "saw". Should he manage to escape the attack he would come out of his roll and immediately switch to his stance facing towards his target.

This kid........is full of surprises. Himura mused as he stumbled to regain his balance. The thrust was not a great attack when it missed, leaving the user wide open, and the Gatotsu, a charging thrust, combined with Himura's advanced age made it very difficult to turn on a dime upon missing. What confused Himura, however, was why the boy didn't try to counterattack. Was he scared? Had Himura gone too far using Gatotsu? Or did masaki simply not know what to do? If that was the case, he would have to fix that now.

Himura nearly hit a tree before he stopped stumbling, and turning to face Masaki again. "You didn't take advantage of my moment of weakness." Himura said, approaching masaki slowly. "Now I'm back on my feet, with distance between us. Now I could do something like this..." Himura pointed his finger from his free hand at Masaki, a lightning bolt erupting from his fingertip. The bolt hit the ground near his foot, not meant to hit him, but to scare him. "...and you're dead. Better yet, you could've done that, incapacitate me before using a finishing move. But I digress."

Himura reattached his bokken to his hip, and pulled the metal tonfas off his back. Holding them long side along his forearm, Himura twisted the handle in his fingers, the long ends of the tonfa extending beyond his hands, then twisting them again to return them back to their original position. "Do this until I get back, and I'll teach you a new maneuver."

Leaving Masaki, Himura approached LT, who looked like he had some important business. "Commander," Himura said with a slight bow of respect, "I hope everything is all right. Need some help?"

Masaki nodded at the man's comment. He saw how the man was knocked off balance by the dodge, but it was hard to turn into a counter. Masaki opened his mouth to ask how he was supposed to, but the man started demonstrating a seemingly simple and pointless movement. It looked like he was just playing around with the tonfa spinning them back and forth. Masaki did started to do it himself. Holding the tonfa alongside his arms, twisting his grip and thrusting the long end away from him, then twisted it back. He repeated this several times as his teacher walked off towards the new arrival. Was he just giving Masaki something to do to distract him while he took care of more important stuff? He practiced the motion some more. If the man tried to abandon him, Masaki would cross that bridge when he got to it. With the man's speed though it was unlikely Masaki could actually stop the man, not that he wouldnt try.

((Kinda another stubby post again, I apologize)
