Does one's light Truly shine brighter In darkness? Why then Does the sun retreat with the coming of night?
[[Chapter 17 ~ Impending Darkness]] [[Cue: Still Doll]] Kyla shifted lightly, coming to once more. Her eyes opened slowly, wincing slightly, still getting used to the influx of light. When her vision finally came into focus, she couldn’t help but feel completely confused. All of her senses came about telling her one thing at a time. First, she was in a well decorated room, colorful and full of personality. Next, she noticed the chair she was sitting in with exquisitely carved arms and red silk cushions fit for royalty. She glanced down at her clothes which had changed drastically. She wasn’t sure what to think, to be absolutely amazed, or incredibly creeped out. Her outfit was replaced by a dress as elegant and extravagant as one that might be worn to one’s own wedding in a dream, or Cinderella’s ball. She raised her arms up to examine the intricate design, the flowery lace, each and every design emphasized by an extra stitch and sewn beads which if she didn’t know any better she might have sworn were actual pearls. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Had she just woken up from a nightmare into her wildest dream? Or was there something else afoot? Kyla turned her head and glanced around the rest of the room, spotting Kefka, instantly bringing her back to reality. Kyla gasped in absolute horror, not that Kefka scared her, just the sudden thought of how she might have gotten into that amazing dress, “YOU!!!” “ME!!!” Kefka squealed in return, giggling afterwards with a wave of his hand, “Surprised? So what do you think? Is everything to your liking?” Kyla was rather dumbfounded, a mix of surprise and disgust written plainly on her face, though her eyes drifted down just a fraction to look at the dress, “Ooo! She DOES like it! Well, I guess I should have trusted you… after all, you know her best.” Kefka spoke to another individual in the room, which Kyla became aware of instantly when she spoke. “Shut up.” The voice replied simply, “Are we done with these games?” Kyla flew from her seat and spun around, staring straight into the eyes of her greatest nightmare’s embodiment, “Kai.” “Oh good… the guests already know each other. Now I don’t need to do introductions! Cuz you know… I hate hate hate hate hate HATE, introductions.” “I said… are we done?” Kai stated coldly, ignoring the clowns annoying antics. “Done with what?” Kyla asked harshly glaring at her replica. Kyla blinked once before she found herself on hr side laid out on the floor. Kai stood over her with an arm out to her side after backhanding Kyla with enough strength to knock her down, “Speak only when spoken to worm!” “Now now… careful… we don’t want to ruin the merchandise. And I don’t mean the dress… cuz I hate hate hate HA-“ “Alright, I get it shut up!” Kai stomped sending up a flurry of shadows. Kefka stood there for a moment, staring at Kai, and her staring at him. There was an awkward silence, Kefka’s eyes were open wide, Kai’s eyes narrowed, so did Kefka’s. Kai clenched her fist,Kefka drew a smile. Kai’s face twitched, Kefka’s mouth opened, “HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!” “Damnit!!!” Kai spun around and faced the clown summoning her book from the darkness with pen in hand. Her attacks would have followed if another unexpected visitor didn’t steady her hand. “Enough Kai. He’s only trying to bait you. We only get our part of the bargain if we cooperate.” Ajora bend forward and looked Kai directly in the eye, something she despised, but she quickly jerked back her hand and took a few steps back. “That’s a good girl.” Ajora spoke before he opened a portal, “Finish things up here quickly Kai. In the meantime, I have some business to take care of top side. So we’ll meet up later.” With that, Ajora vanished into his dark corridor. Kefka sighed with a laugh, “What a shame. He’s so serious… no fun at all.” Kefka’s attention fell once more on Kyla, who was attempting to crawl towards the door, “Ah ah ah! Hold it missy!” Kyla froze and turned around reluctantly, “What is it you want Kefka?” just as she asked, a mirror appeared underneath her, and she fell through. She immediately returned however, right into the seat in the center of the room. “Nothing you need to worry your TINY little brain about. All I want you to do… is draw.” “Draw?” Kyla asked, thoroughly confused. “DRAW?!” Kai seemed to explode in unison. “Yes. Draw… I want you to draw me something.” “Like hell. I’m not drawing you anything.” Kyla seemed completely baffled with the request, she wouldn’t do anything for the demented clown, unless perhaps that thing happened to be removing the head from his shoulders, but known him, it would probably screw back on. “Oh but you see… you won’t even have to worry about that either. You’ll exactly as I say… whether you like it or not, princess.” Kyla wanted to feel a bit of her lunch come back for dinner when he called her princess, but she was now too concentrated on Kai, “Kai dear, if you’d please.” Kai opened her book with a growl, darkness spilling off its pages and out onto the floor. Her pen touched the surface, darkness began taking Kyla’s sight, then once more, everything went black. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Are we theeeeeeeere yet?” Rio’s cute accented voice droned on down the hallway as they walked endlessly, “Are we looooooost?” “Little girl… I swear… if you ask that again…” Louis tilted his head to the side slightly to observe her walking next to him, the playful smirk on her face as she opened her mouth to say it again. Kichi stopped her quickly by shooting her a glance. “Fiiiine,” Rio whined, “I don’t know why you’re so touchy, especially you Kichi, you’ve always liked my jokes. You guys weren’t saying anything anyway.” “That’s because, you may not understand this but we’re still behind enemy lines, so to speak, and we need to stay alert. I won’t blame you though, you’re only… what…. 10? 13?” “15!” She roared in frustration, “Why does everyone think I’m so young!” Ignoring her antics, Kichi said to Rio, “He’s right. We’re not out of the woods yet.” He paused looking to Maggie leading the group, “And Rio has a point too. Are you sure you know where we’re going Maggie?” The alchemist turned back with a grin, “Of course. Besides, have you seen any turns yet?” “True.” Kichi said, putting his worries aside, though something else, aside from the walk seemed to be bothering him. Louis picked up on it, but wasn’t sure whether to say anything. It was obvious he wasn’t acting himself, but John jumped on it long before Louis would have acted, “Hey man! Buddy ol’ pal!” John threw his arm over Kichi’s shoulder and punching with his other, “What’s eating you? You seem off.” Kichi lowered his gaze a bit, not really answering for a moment. Finally he spoke up with a sigh, “Just not feeling well is all.” “Not feeling well? Do we need to stop and take a break?” John asked but was instantly struck with a rebuttal from Maggie. “No, we’ve wasted enough time.” John gave an exaggerated sigh, “You too Maggie? What’s everyone’s problem?” “We’ve just spent the past several hours running around forced to fight our friends otherwise get blown to smithereens, had to watch our friends die before our very eyes, and are now sneaking around in for lack of a better word, a prison! What’s YOUR problem?! Why are you in such a good mood?! What’s NORMAL about that? You should be upset! Stressed! Freaked out! Something!” Kichi exploded out of his melancholy state, pushing John off of him. John stood there for a moment, dumbfounded to hear Kichi speak so strongly all of a sudden, but his answer came simply, “What good would that do?” Louis couldn’t help but nod along with the statement, “He has a point.” Kichi slipped right back into a down state, his depression worsening, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say those things.” “Nah! It’s fine! I understand. We’re buds! Pals! Comrades in arms!” He added the last statement with a deep Russian accent, then thrust his fist forward at Kichi leaving pleanty of room between himself and Kichi adding, “Bro-fist. Come oooon! Bro-fist! You know it’ll make you feel better. Doooo iiiit.” Kichi laughed, cheering up a bit enough to smile, “Yeah, sure!” Kichi completed the gesture, and turned to Louis, “Come on! You too.” Louis looked surprised to be included at that moment, but smiled and added his fist into the group, followed by Rio who did so uninvited, but appreciated none the less. “Are you guys done?” Maggie asked, drawing their attention away from one another, “Cuz I think we’re here.” “Here?” They all asked in unison, looking past her. Beyond, was one of the large rotundas. As Rio started heading close to the door, Louis called out to her and held her back. “Careful. Let us go first.” Louis strolled past Rio through the door followed by Kichi and John. The moment they were through the door, the barrier erected itself causing all of them a great deal of worry. [[Cue: Jenova]] Before Rio could pass through the barrier herself, she suddenly fell to the ground unconscious. Kichi yelled out to her, “Rio, what’s wrong? Answer me!” “She’ll be fine given a couple minutes.” Maggie answered laughing. “Mag- RAINE…” Louis corrected himself, glaring the replica down, seething with anger. “That’s riiight.” She said with a wink before taking the girl under her arm, under the other was already Alice, “Alright boys… you have fun! Try not to mess up those cute faces.” “Brother? Was that directed to us?” Louis, Kichi, and John spun around, turning their attention away from the retreating replica to their real opponents. “I don’t know… does it matter?” “You have got to be kidding me.” Louis cursed under his breath. “Loz, Yazoo, concentrate on our task. We need to if we’re going to get Mother back.” Kadaj, the infamous white haired demon said walking forward, the entire rotunda seeming to darken in his presence. “We’re screwed.” Louis finished his thought summoning his blade to him as the others did the same with their weapons. "Come on! We're no screwed! We'll grind these guys to dust!" John said swinging around the hammer, loosening his shoulders. Kichi stayed quiet, glaring at the enemies. "Is swear... if Rio's been hurt..." Kichi began, but left the sentence off unfinished there. “Let’s take care of this quickly. We don’t want to be late for our reunion.” [[Cue: Dream Battle Master Spark]] Louis lifted his blade just in time as Kadaj led the assault colliding with Louis at blinding speeds. Their blades matched momentum clashing back and forth speed only topped by skill kept Louis on the defensive. Loz flew forward and clashed head on with John’s hammer, the electricity flowing off both their weapons and tearing apart the floor around them. Kichi spun his tonfa out in front of him deflecting the barrage of bullets from Yazoo and making a slow advance. Louis quickly felt himself losing ground and had to think of a better strategy to taking on the obviously stronger opponent. What Louis couldn’t understand, was why he wasn’t already dead. It took only a moment of thought when he realized, He’s toying with me!Louis gritted his teeth and quickly lept backwards away from an incoming blow. Kadaj wasn’t even phased by the missing brace and spun on one foot into a crouching position where he launched off the ground in pursuit. Louis opened a dark portal and vanished into in, reappearing from Kadaj’s side in a front flip motion. His blade collided with his opponents and his direction was deflected where he returned with another strike from another angle with the aid of his portals. The two locked themselves in combat mid air, not even dropping towards the ground an inch with each repeating blow. Kichi finally got up on Yazoo, reacting with inhuman speed, ricocheting an incoming bullet right back at Yazoo and scraping his arm. The white haired gunner winced for only a moment, a moment more than Kichi needed to take advantage. Two parallel flares pounded Yazoo in the chest and sent him flying backwards. John wasn’t having quite as easy a time as he flew backwards after receiving a blow from Loz. The brawler intercepted John, stopping beside his flight path in order to plow John into the floor with his pile driver. Electricity coated Johns body, counteracting the charge in Loz’s weapon. He was however not spared the physical blow to the chest and the agonizing pain that came with it. Lighting shot out in arcs from his torso, connecting with Loz and blasting him backwards. Loz stumbled back as John rolled back to his feet, spinning around with his hammer. The blow first knocked him off his feet then the hammer came back for a second strike sending him flying like a baseball. That wasn’t all though, an arc of electricity formed between Loz and John’s hammer as he pulled back with immense strength. Loz changed direction and headed straight in for John as the crusader prepared one more powerful swing. Just as Loz should have impacted the hammer, a shot rang out that nailed the side of John’s hammer. Knocked off balance, John was no longer prepared for the incoming opponent and came face to fist once more with the brawler’s pile driver. John flew through the air and right into Louis who just exited his portal to strike again at Kadaj. The two tumbled to the ground and skid for a moment before stopping and standing to their feet. Louis stood prepared first helping John to his feet. Louis raised his gaze to spot an incoming blow from Loz, a downward spike aimed to pin his head to the floor. Louis rolled down with it into a forward flip. To get up and out of the way of the blow entirely, he blasted a concentrated flow of darkness at the floor, flipping himself out and around. His feet landed on Loz’s shoulders and Louis stabbed down at Loz’s open back. The shadowmancer had his attack interrupted as Kadaj flew in and struck at him, blocked just in time though it knocked Louis off balance on Loz’s shoulders. As Louis fell back, Loz reached up, grabbing hold of his leg and tossing him like a rag doll right at Jon who stood ready. Louis plowed right into John’s open arms. Louis was dropped to the ground just in time for John to resummon his hammer and block a strike from Kadaj. Kichi meanwhile spun wildly in the air clashing with Yazoo, the gunner gracefully using Kichi as a platform to stay airborne and continuously barrage the helpless glider with bullets. Kichi flipped back, using his weightlessness to his advantage to simply take the momentum of a hit and spin right around to face Yazoo with a flare. The gunner quickly kicked his arm to the side, sending the flare off into the floor until it dragged along the path of Kichi’s arm right across Louis, John, and Kadaj, who dodged effortlessly out of the ay so that the blast simply moved his jump farther. Louis slid, digging his dagger into the floor yelling in Kichi’s direction, “Damn it! Watch where you’re shooting!” “Huh? What?!” Kichi yelled back distracted for a moment from his task. Kichi grappled with Yazoo, only to lose his advantage of flight rather quickly and spiral down to the ground with quickening speed. Yazoo spun around Kichi, contorting his body like an acrobat. They fell back to back as Yazoo wrapped his legs around Kichi’s neck, and grabbing his legs with his hands. Caught in this deadly wheel, Kichi careened towards the floor where Yazoo released his legs and slammed Kichi face first into the floor, sending cracks through the tile in every direction. Then, with another shot through the back, a spirit like bullet flowed right through Kichi and out his chest, impacting the floor only to blast him back off the ground for Yazoo to plant a well placed kick in the back, delivering him right into Loz, who sent him like a pin ball into the other two still recovering from their tango with Kichi’s misguided flare. Kichi, John, and Louis stood to their feet slowly, looking wearily at the trio that only chuckled at their misfortune. “You have no hope of winning this,” Kadaj pointed out, “Just give up! We’ll make your deaths short.” “Like we’ve ever been the type for short and painless, right Kichi?” Louis asked as he unsummoned his blade, looking to the tonfa wielder, “How bout we end these momma’s boys with style.” Kichi stared at Louis, feeling a strange sense of nostalgia, then nodded confidently, “Right! Magical space heater style?” “I’m game!” John agreed, picking up on the reference. “Alright! Let’s do this!” Louis flipped back over the top of the two other earthlings, his image froze in place behind the two, floating in the air. Behind him, a tear in space could be seen, pure darkness opened up to the world, flowing out into the other two fighters giving them an immense burst of energy. John aligned himself behind Kichi, sending waved of black electricity into his back, charging Kichi with another source of power, “The Heat is on Kich’! Light ‘er up!” Kichi summoned his tonpha, reeling back, all the energy collecting on their ends. Finally, yelling out dramatically, “Here we go!” “Twillight!” “Holy!” “MASTER FLARE!” Kichi fired off the blast, a wild collection of white, hues of blue, yellow and red, as well as a deep black. The blast had enough power behind it that all of the fighters slid backwards aside from Louis, who simply strained against the raw force pounding against him mid air. Ice coated the feet of his comrades, holding them from falling back further. Kichi felt his arms being pushed upwards by the prolonged force. Louis noticed and vanished from his position, vanishing into a portal, the large one streaming out darkness stayed open feeding power into Kichi directly now. Louis reappeared at Kichi’s side, grabbing one arm and holding it in place. With pure strength, John pushed his way up and grabbed hold of the other arm. The beam corrected its course and continued to erode away at everything in front of it. Finally the beam, trickled to a stop and they all slumped for a moment in relief. Then, in the absence of the beam, a loud crack like a sonic boom or lightning strike struck their eardrums, accompanied by a sudden suction that seemed to be emanating from a newly made hole in the wall. Beyond the wall, nothing could be seen, just an empty abyss, but this wasn't what grabbed the fighter’s attention. What truly surprised them, was the trio, still existing in the center of the massive trench left behind by the ultimate attack. Louis, Kichi, and John each let out a simultaneous sigh as Kadaj spoke after a contained cough, “So… I take that as a no to our offer?” “Take that as… a hell no.” Louis spoke for all of them, as they stood side by side with their weapons drawn, “I’ve still got a few tricks up my sleeve. Don’t count us out yet!” Louis opened a channel in his mind to the darkest reaches of his heart, feeling for the overwhelming presence that most eagerly grabbed hold at the other end, Mateus! We need your help with this one!Oh? What makes you think I’ll help?Because if you don’t, I guarantee I’ll die, which means you can kiss your connection to this world goodbye.Fair enough. What is it you need? And what do I get in return? How about another piece of your heart?Better, how about 3?What are you suggesting? You can read my mind, you should already know by now.Hmm… interesting. Alright, let’s give this a try.Louis came back to reality, taking a step back for a moment, “Guys! Give me some time to prepare! I have something that might give us an edge! I just need you to cover me while I perform the necessary arrangements!” “If it’ll help us get out of this alive! Anything!” John said back, tightened the grip on his war hammer, “Just hurry it up! I don’t know how well 2 on 3 is going to work out.” “No matter what you do… nothing will get in the way of our reunion.” Yazoo spoke menacingly. “We’ll see about that!” Kichi said firing a flare at his face and advancing. [[Cue: Necrofantasia]] Yazoo easily ducked beneath the shot and began firing off shots gain at Kichi. Kichi jumped over them and closed the gap with quick blast of his flares out the tail end of his tonfa. John clashed with both Kadaj and Loz. Kadaj speed around John, dispatching quick blows so that the heavier fighter could barely even react as each swing placed a new cut along his sides. Suddenly, Kadaj lifted his blows and sped off towards Louis. John went to turn back and stop him, but Loz interrupted flying in with a blow to the gut. The tank dismissed his weapon, allowing freedom of movement. He twisted slightly to the side as the piledrivers blasted out where his gut would have been. Loz looked slightly surprised as he felt a tight grip on his arm, then a lifting pressure when John amassed all of his strength to pick up and toss the fighter right through the air after Kadaj. With inhuman reflexes, Kadaj ducked right underneath his brother without even looking back to see him coming. As Kadaj lifted his head, he stared as a sparking yellow string stretched out over his shoulder and over to Loz. Still in flight, Loz reversed direction and flew right into Kadaj, who was left no time to react. The two impacted, just as John resummoned his hammer bringing it down and letting out a bolt of lightning that struck down on both of them. The two stood up, ready to take on John when a beam from Kichi swept across the entire field. The beam narrowly wised Louis, who was now floating a few feet off the ground, but the others were all knocked off their feet friends or otherwise. John got back up with a stumble, about to yell a string of unpleasant words at Kichi when he remembered Kichi was still fighting a dire battle of his own. John Pulled back his hand, then thrust it forward at Yazoo. The white haired gunner could see a flash of light out of the corner of his eye, and in a split second, he replaced himself with the close range fighter, spinning over kichi and planting a boot to the back of his head. Kichi stumbled forward at just the wrong time, getting struck by John’s arc of electricity. Kichi could feel the electricity flowing through his body, disabling his movements, leaving his nerves numb and limp. Kichi barely felt the ability to stand as Yazoo spun around in front of his eyes and planted a foot in the side of his face along with some bullets charged with magic leaving explosions with each impact. Louis floated, a massive dark portal behind him, numerous tentrils streaming out and into him, “Nnng” The shadowmancer strained, his limits being tested by this abundance of darkness, It feels… as though my heart is on it’s last beat! Mateus! Can’t you move things along!Almost ready…Damn it! Mateus! I can’t take anymore of this! I’ll lose myself at this rate!Just a little further!Louis closed his eyes, swallowing down hard as the pain in his chest overwhelmed his entire body. As he opened his eyes, his vision blurred, he could see specks of light, but the rest slowly coated over in darkness, MATEUS!Go!Louis roared as the darkness in his body flowed outward in two giant streams, one from each arm. The torrential flows flew out, tearing apart the floor to each of his sides and continued to so as they ripped a path through space over to Louis’… allies?! The tendrils rammed right into the back and chest of Kichi and John. The two screamed out in pain, while their opponents watched with curiosity. “Ha! He missed! These guys can’t even fight without killing each other first. This is too easy.” Loz laughed, glancing at Louis who slowly drifted to the floor. “No… didn't miss.” “Hmm?” Kadaj even looked surprised looking from Louis to the other two. Kichi and John stood up, darkness flowing off their bodies. Louis’ voice reached them from an otherworldly source, Don’t freak out… this darkness is going to help you. Just listen to the darkness in your heart now and follow its instructions.Louis finished out loud, “That said… let’s wipe the floor with these mama’s boys.” Kadaj grimaced and looked at Louis, who tilted his head curiously with a small smile. A closer look of Louis showed the state his body was in. Beneath the flowing darkness, the most apparent effect was the dark bruises covering his hands and neck, and likely the rest of his body. The net difference was the mismatched eye on the right side, with a shinning yellow iris and nothing but black where the white once was, My eye… what am I seeing? … are those… they’re hearts. I see now… I can monitor the state of their hearts like this… that’s convenient. Louis concentrated on Kichi’s heart, the corruption of this state eating away at it rather quickly. The same went for John’s, They're not used to the darkness… they won’t last log at this rate… we need to wrap this up quickly.Louis flew forward, moving faster than Kadaj, Loz, or Yazoo expected. His foot planted upside the eldest brother’s jaw, knocking him upwards. Kadaj corrected himself but was assaulted from another angle. John spun through the air, using the hammer for momentum he flipped around and smashed Kadaj in the side. Kadaj flew and collided with Loz, then felt himself thrown again after a dark portal on the floor blasted out hostile tendrils that sent them both to the air. Kichi fought with Yazoo, placing himself on the opposite end with Yazoo between him and the others. Kichi swept the floor with his foot, with plenty of room between him and his opponent. Yazoo had a split second of confusion before he was forced to the air as a beam blasted from Kichi’s foot. Kichi continued the spin, drawing himself up and kicking with the other foot. The beam collided with Yazoo midair, knocking him into a spin. Finally, Kichi dug his foot into the foot to halt his movement. The air stood still as all the targets aligned. Kichi fired off a large shot that carried Yazoo through the air and into his disoriented brothers, then carried all of them into the wall a bit further that that. Louis raised his lade to block preemptively as the brother returned not even a second later to place their counter strike. Louis this time was faced with Yazoo and Loz, and John was left fighting Kadaj. Louis rolled away from the bullets, spinning his blade in front of him, the wielderless blade moving with only a orb of darkness on the giving it movement at the command of its master. Loz moved in past the blade, bearing down on the shadowmancer’s defenses, forcing him into hand to hand combat. Louis excelled at dodging, but his physical strength was nothing that could dent the brawler’s tough as steel build. Louis bent backwards, the piledriver releasing its blast right where his head would have been a moment before. Landing in an awkward position, Louis took what he could and struck out against the opening, Louis kicked at the fighter’s knee, but looked distraught, feeling no budge at all from the leg. The piledriver reloaded and Loz lifted his arm over his head then swung down. Louis opened a dark portal beneath him, and he fell through, followed by Loz’s arm. The shawodmancer reappeared a good distance directly above where he was, then the fist extended outward in front of him, smashing him in the chest, then released the piledriver, sending him faster into the ground, or in this case, the attack himself. Loz looked around as he pulled his hand free of the portal, trying to spot Louis, but found only Kichi a bit away. Loz locked the piledriver back in place again, but before he could advance, Louis returned and slammed both of them into the floor. Yazoo tired of the sword and quickly dispatched it with a shot to the dark orb that kept it in motion, then another shot that sent it spiraling off into the distance. Yazoo examined the state of his brothers. Kadaj was dealing with John well enough, Loz of the other had seemed to actually struggling with the shadowmancer. Despite Yazoo’s assumption, he advanced as Loz stood to his feet, taking Louis by the leg, spinning around at a rate that sent most of the blood straight to Louis’ head, then released him as a projectile at Kichi. Mid flight, Louis felt the darkness inside him correct his out of control moment and allow him to spot the next attack. The gunner ran alongside him at the same speed, firing off energy bullets that continuously impacted Louis’ torso. Though the damage wasn’t apparent at first glance, Louis could feel his insides being torn apart by the barrage. Suddenly, Kichi took action, firing a single flare that rocketed Yazoo back again. Louis stopped himself by driving his feet into the floor, digging up a line in the floor in the process. He greeted Loz with a wall of darkness, a large veil falling in behind him as a dozen dark tendrils shot out trying halt the brawler. Loz avoided them easily, moving in for the kill. Just as he was about to reach him, the curtain fell at Kichi lept out from his hiding place leaving no time for Loz to react. The flare spells plowed Loz into the floor at an angle, dragging him through the tile till Kichi’s flared dimmed to a stop. Yazoo moved in, firing off charged shots that detonated all around them. Louis and Kichi looked to one another and charged at one another. The two passed each other full speed, locking arms and practically lifting off as they spun around in a circle. Using Kichi’s glide ability, the two did lift off the ground, picking up speed as Yazoo grew closer. Just as the gunner was upon them, guns aimed from the floor up at them, Kichi fired off his flare spells, launching them faster in a spin, kicking up a strong wind, tearing the area apart with the resulting tornado. Yazoo felt himself lifted from the floor, as darkness and flare magic streamed off Louis and Kichi. The contrast tornado tore apart the gunner caught within, till finally, Louis and Kichi let go, splitting apart into two separate tornadoes that orbited each other like the double helix of a DNA strand, Yazoo still caught in the center of the conflicting forces. Finally their twisters drifted apart, and launched Yazoo across the room. Louis and Kichi landed, still not done with the gunner. Both vanished from their landing spots, reappearing one on each side of their opponent. Louis struck from below, sending him up into Kichi who returned him like a tennis ball. Louis spun around landing a bit to the left, then cart wheeled into the falling target, trailing a whip of darkness behind off his rapier. The rapier struck, wrapping the darkness around Yazoo’s neck as he passed over to the other side. Louis pulled his rapier across himself, throwing the gunner over his shoulder and into the ground. Another twist of his wrist and the whip smacked him off the floor and into the air slightly, once more the whip struck, grabbing his leg and throwing him high in the air where Kichi waited with the finishing blow, “Come on! Bahamut! “ The giant dragon, king of dragons, appeared behind Kichi, this time, clad in black steel. The two floated in place as Bahamut shot off six black spikes from his wings and encircled the gunner. Kichi and Bahamut gathered energy, a beam charging in Bahamut’s mouth. Yazoo couldn’t move, he could only stare as the impending doom was upon him. Loz resurfaced, running forward, slower than usual due to his own injuries. He readied his piledriver and leapt at Kichi. Louis intercepted and spiked Loz to the ground with a drop kick, then rained down blasts of darkness from the air. Bahamut finished charging, and with a ground shaking roar, he released the beam into the gunner, engulfing him in the elementless flame. Meanwhile, John, gaining little leeway with the strongest of the three, fought with his bare hands against him. His strikes landed always too shallow to place a good hit. However, it was becoming apparent to Kadaj that this wasn’t at all unintentional. His movements were becoming sluggish with every hit, no matter how tiny. Sparks shot out from John’s hands, his palms wide open, not forming fists for the largest surface area. Finally, there was an opening as Kadaj stumbled, John moved in, slamming both hands into the swordsman’s torso. Kadaj stumbled back, feeling his whole body go numb, “I… I can’t move…” He stuttered between gritted teeth. John summoned his hammer and charged forward, once in range, he slammed the hammer down, missing his opponent by an inch. Kadaj just stared, quiet for a moment, then laughed, laughing histarically at John’s failure, “Idiot! Where were you looking?” “Up.” “Up?” Kadaj looked up, and saw the dark, electric horn of ixion protruding through a portal connected to an arc of electricity on the tip of John’s hammer. More arcs formed as John backed away quickly, or more, ran for his life. The arcs swiftly grew with intensity, and finally, all of the bolts flashed, and went dark. A moment of silence, then a massive, bright beam shot down from Ixion’s horn, striking the tallest thing in the vicinity, mainly, Kadaj. The white haired demon was engulfed in the lightning strike and vanished, all that remained was a hole in the floor down to an empty black abyss. As they all gathered in one place, John smiled, and yelled out, rather loudly considering they were now in complete silence, likely the aftershock of being so close to Ixion’s blast, “Did you see that? I knocked that worthless son of a gun right through the floor!” “Heh… nice job.” Kichi panted, it was obvious the whole ordeal had taken a huge chunk out of his reserves. Louis looked at them both with his eye, concentrating summoning two dark portals behind them both. The darkness streamed off them and into the portals and in no time their hearts regained luminance in his eye to the point he had no choice but to close his eye and avoid blinding himself. Kichi picked up on Louis’ closed eye and asked with concern, “You alright? Did your eye get hit.” Louis almost wanted to laugh at Kichi’s oblivious awareness and said, “No, I’m fine. Just a little dust got in it during the fray.” “Don’t think… we’re done… yet.” Suddenly a voice broke up their moment of reprieve. Yazoo and Loz stood to their feet, darkness flowing from their bodies, crawling across the floor and down the hole where Kadaj once stood, “We might not be powerful enough apart without mother… but…” Louis felt a chill run down his spine, and he was sure the others felt it too as they continued, “As one… nothing… can stop us.” With nothing more left to say, the two brothers disintegrated and formed pure darkness that flowed down into the hole in the floor. All was quiet for a moment as none of them took their eyes off the hole even to blink. There wasn’t even the sound of their breaths in the air as the deathly silence continued. Then, the floor began to rumble, and darkness spewed out of the hole and onto the roof, covering every surface in the black ink. There was a flash on the floor and a white streak slid underneath them all. There wasn’t enough time to move, Louis simply blocked himself feebly, expecting the inevitable. Kichi tried to step out of the way, moving his feet as fast as he could but it was like his body wouldn’t follow as fast as he’d like. Finally, John, in an act of desperation, looked to the other two, extending his hands with all of his strength. With this last ditch effort, John pushed both Louis and Kichi clear, just as the floor erupted in a flurry of black and blue flame. The floor began to crumble around the massive hole that was now newly created. Louis scrambled to get farther away as he heard the familiar wing beat, and in his head, the inevitable haunting theme song. [[Cue: One Winged Angel]] A voice, in a tone so dark and demented it froze the blood in even Louis veins, spoke to the now two fighters, “What have we here? A couple of pests? What is it you fear? Tell me… so I may make it a reality and drive you to the end of your rope. What do you cherish? So I may take it from you and have you wallow in agony. What do you hate? So I may become that which you loath and gather all of that darkness to myself… and become the most powerful being the world has ever seen. But what shall I give you in return? Perhaps I shall give you…” “Kichi…” Louis looked over to the tonfa wielder, who stared blankly at the empty gap in the floor where John was. Louis’ words weren’t reaching him, despite his tone yelling to get him to his feet, “Kichi! We have to run! Get up!” “Despair!” time slowed to a standstill as Sephiroth pulled back and released a stream of raw energy from the tip of his massive katana, the attack came at them too quick, too fast for either to do anything about it. Louis stared, gripping ever tighter to Kichi’s arm, twisting it almost as if to break it, in utter fear of the doom before him. In his eyes, the attack was reflected, beholding death incarnate, but right before those eyes, salvation came in the form of a giant buster sword flying through the air and planting itself in the floor, canceling out the attack the moment it was to cleave the two through. The combined pain in his arm and the shockwave resulting from the interruption woke Kichi from his shattered state. He immediately gasped out in pain causing Louis to release the pressure on the boy’s arm, “Kichi! Let’s go! Now’s our chance!” Louis stopped, watching Cloud take his place in front of them, like the guardian sentinel he was. He glanced back, and spoke simply, “Go… I’ll take care of it from here.” Louis was eager to agree, tugging on Kichi ready to go, “Let’s get out of here… we’re outclassed.” “No!” Kichi exploded, ripping his arm away from Louis, “I’m not leaving! I’m done running! He killed John! He’ll pay for this!” Louis dropped his arms to his side, looking over, spotting Rae, waving them over, the barrier down so that they could escape. To his surprise, his eye caught something else, behind Sephiroth, there was movement, “Don’t count me out YET!!!” Louis could feel his jaw drop as John returned from the hole in the floor, leaping out behind Sephiroth and bring his hammer down in a blur. Sephiroth quickly dispatched the desperate strike, spinning around and launching John backwards with a swing of his sword, but John landed on his feet and grinned confidently, “Come on mama’s boy! Bring it on!” Sephiroth turned his attention away from John to Cloud, smiling ever so slightly, “Cloud… good of you to come. I was worried you wouldn’t make it.” “I could smell the stench of your darkness from miles away, Sephiroth. I won’t let you escape.” “You’re assuming I want to escape.” Saphiroth readied his weapon, and braced himself, “My only intention… is to bring ruin to this forsaken world.” “You’ll never succeed… not if I have anything to do with it.” Cloud brought the blade to his side, “I’ll defeat you… and wipe your darkness from the face of existence.” “Foolish Cloud… you can never get rid of me. I exist because of the darkness in your own heart… nothing can remove me from this world as long as the darkness in your heart exists. I’ll just keep coming back.” “Then I’ll just have to keep putting you right back in then!” Cloud dashed forward, blade cutting a line right across the floor igniting in blue flame. He reached Sephiroth before the others could even blink. He ripped the sword up and through the floor, blasting Sephiroth up. Giving chase to the air, Cloud flew up, flipping at the pinnacle of his jump, and striking down with his giant sword. Sephiroth vanished from his place in the air, only a few black feathers remaining in his wake. He reappeared behind Cloud, sending him to the floor with one swing. Cloud crashed against the ground on his back, blocking a following barrage of strikes as Sephiroth laid blow after blow against the man’s buster sword. Louis, Kichi, and John were moments away from dashing in to help, as the floor split from one end of the rotunda to the other. It wasn’t long before the floor shattered entirely, causing all the fighters to fall into the mechanics below. Each found a safe place to land on the steel framing that crisscrossed throughout the chasm. They each stood separated, looking around feverously for the One Winged Angel. Louis still stood with his original statement to run, even more so now in such a disadvantage as to not know where his opponent was. Louis was unfortunate enough to be the first to spot him as Sephiroth flew in like lightning, striking his sword against Louis’, rocketing Louis into the wall of the chasm. Cloud dropped down on Sephiroth, blade aimed down to skewer his rival, but Sephiroth disappeared again vanishing from sight only to reappear next to Kichi, striking him down through the metal scaffolding on which he stood. Cloud had difficulty keeping up, despite his strength, his buster sword weighed him down far too much to move at the same speed. The next time he appeared it was next to John, who was ready for him, electricity holding him to the metal bar so he wouldn’t move no matter how much Sephiroth jarred his limbs with each consecutive blow. Sephiroth was forced to retreat as both a section of Cloud’s deconstruct-able blade and a flare shot from Kichi passed over his previous location. “Pitiful vermin… do not meddle in our affairs.” Sephiroth announced, striking Kichi from behind without warning. Kichi feel towards the bottom of the pit where several gears and cogs toiled endlessly performing whatever task they were designed to do. Louis opened a portal just in time below Kichi saving him from death, and dropping him next to him on the same bar, “Perhaps I shouldn’t be so harsh…” Sephiroth spoke once more, his comment surprising, only to be justified a moment later, “You are clever rats.” Louis flinched, a glimmer flashing by the corner of his eye. He spun, lifting his blade overhead to block Sephiroth’s strike. He became aware a moment later that Kichi stood behind him now holding up half the weight of the blow, “Clever rats indeed.” Louis rocked backwards with Kichi as Sephiroth pulled up and spun, cutting the bar beneath their feet. Louis back stepped as far as he could before both he and Kichi were out of room. Louis leapt backwards, turning upside-down and around as he did. His feet planted against the support beam’s face, and he pushed off. Kichi advanced as Louis struck from above. Sephiroth moved with rapid, fluid grace, blocking their blows and removing more of the metal supports with each swing. He spun around, slicing both ends of the support beams, causing a shift in the entire pit’s infrastructure. Cloud flew in again, this time holding two swords, his blows matched with Sephiroth as Louis and kichi sought out safer ground. Cloud eventually swung with one blade, carrying with it more blue fire. Sephiroth flew back of his own accord, avoiding the blade and floating mid air close to the wall. He spun his gaze up, noticing a bit too late that John stood over him, perpendicular to the wall. His hammer smacked Sephiroth down to the bottom, where he stopped himself with a single beat of his wing. Their opponent chuckled, flying up to the center of the pit, allowing all of them to surround him. John, Kichi, Louis, and Cloud, all raised their weapons, ready for anything he had in mind. Sephiroth brought his blade out to his side, the gust of wind as he did so practically dislodging Louis and Kichi from their perch. With a quick spin, shimmering lights spread all over to the pits braces, sending a simultaneous shift through every bar. Louis stumbled slightly, bracing himself with his hand against the support beam. He stumbled further as the support beam gave way and the entire substructure crumbled to pieces. The entire group fell towards the deadly gears at the base of the pit, struggling to regain their balance with all of the debris falling and crashing in around them. Either they’d be killed by the gears, or crushed by the falling metal around them. Louis wasn’t about to die to something so simple. More dark bruises appeared on his body as he channeled more power through himself. The bottom of the pit, a dark portal stretching from one end to the other allowed for all of the fighters and debris to fall through. At the top of the pit, another matching portal opened, dropping out all the contents of the first in an infinite loop. John grabbed hold of a chunk of metal, and latched his feet on with metal. He used it like a surfboard, riding the air as he fell. He spotted Sephiroth moving in on Louis, attempting to shut down the mechanism that kept them all from being crushed. He released the magnetic pull on the chunk of metal and kicked it off, sending it flying clear across the pit, miraculously untouched by the other debris. Sephiroth turned around, slashing it clear through and sent a wave at John carrying much more debris at him like shrapnel. Louis spun around, now aware of the ex-soldier’s position. He slashed at the air, sending some waves of his own imbued with darkness. Sephiroth spun around, dealing the same blow to Louis as he did to John. Amid the chaos, Cloud moved about unhindered, placing his swords strategically in the walls as stepping stones. Kichi glided through the falling metal, aiming shots randomly as he passed by, swerving back and forth to avoid getting hit from above. Sephiroth moved in, cleaving the air, leaving a thunderous crack in its wake as Kichi dodged. A metal bar clipped Kichi’s arm, distracting him for just a moment. Sephiroth capitalized on it, flying in and striking Kichi down, bouncing him off the wall and into the dark portal. Kichi returned from the portal above, and fired flares down on Sephiroth. Louis climbed the falling debris, jumping from one object to the next, making his way up to Sephiroth, suddenly impeded by Kichi’s beams that always seemed to get in the way at the worst times. John ran along the wall, magnetizing metal plates and collecting more debris to those he touched. He was trying to clear away some of the chaos to gain some mobility, but the magnetic force only lasted so long, and would release his work after only a few seconds. John looked around and spotted a huge metal bar falling, still intact. John reached out, and drew it to him with his power. Along the way, it gathered more debris to itself like a lightning rod. When it reached him, he held it over himself with his power, and continued charging it. More and more electricity shot from him to the bar, till finally the bolts flashed with intensity, launching the bar like a rail gun right at Sephiroth. This was child’s play for the One Winged Angel, it was painfully obvious. The way he simply floated out of the way from the attack showed he wasn’t finding any challenge in dispatching the three boys. The large metal bar imbedded itself in the wall, conveiniently giving Louis a place to grab on and rest, if only for a few seconds. Cloud on the other hand, was a different case, he’d lost sight of him in amist the chaos, and couldn’t spot him anywhere, “Cloud… did fear finally overcome you? Do cling to your life and hide while I destroy these three?” Sephiroth chuckled before nearly biting his tongue, spinning around to face the incoming buster swordsman. “I’d never,” Cloud flew past, slicing Sephiroth across the gut. He flew over to the other side of the pit, anchoring himself with a pre-placed sword. He pushed off pulling with him the sword from the wall, cleaving Sephiroth twice this time with both swords before recombining them. Another anchor, and another, and another, he continued launching past from one side to the other was different angles with Sephiroth as the center, “Abandon my friends!” Cloud reached the climax of his attack, reaching the highest point of all his attacks. He pressed off flying in with his fully recombined blade for one final strike. As he flew in, Sephiroth laughed, “Do you really think that attack would work on my twice?” Cloud looked wide eyed as Sephiroth bent at an angle and thrust straight forward into the oncoming swordsman. Sephiroth was foiled however, as the combined attacks of Kichi, Louis, and John struck him from three separate angles at once. The combined strike broke Sephiroth’s stance, allowing Cloud to lay the final blow. As he faded, Sephiroth smiled at cloud, stating again with that dark confidence, “You’ll never be rid of me Cloud. I’ll be back to haunt you forever, as long as that darkness remains in your heart.” With nothing more, Sephiroth’s wing wrapped across himself, and he faded into nothingness. With no more enemy to worry about, everyone made their way up the pit to the door lodged in the side where Rae sat waiting, “Are you guys alright?” “We’re fine.” John spoke for himself, the other two not so lucky. Cloud gave a nod to the three boys, “You did good.” Not much, but it was a compliment, and a big one coming from Cloud. “Aw YEAH! That’s right! We beat him! Who’s the man? Er- Who’s the men! We did it!” John danced a bit, cheerful and overconfident as ever, his wording irritating Rae as she went on to deliver a rebuttal. “Nothing ever breaks his stride huh?” Louis said, looking to Kichi, frowning a bit. Kichi stood with his head hanging low on his shoulders, he’d have said something, but it seemed he wouldn’t be given the chance. “Oh!” Rae yelled out suddenly, “We need to hurry! The others! They’re still up ahead! We need to hurry or we’ll be left behind!”All of them immediately took off at a run, following Rae back towards the place they began, and after that, onward to their hopeful reunion with their friends.

If a heart shines bright What color then does it shine? Does a girl’s shine pink and a boy’s shine blue? Or… Does every heart have its own individual shade? What color then, does a heart shine that has lost its identity?
[[Chapter 18 ~ Colors of the Heart]]
“Alright… I get why you’re here… but… how?” Michelle asked as Leon finished his story. “What do you mean? Where should I start?” Leon asked looking at the girl as she ran her hands through her husband’s hair. “Well I suppose start at the beginning.” Michelle stated plainly with another glance up from James, only to look down at his sleeping face once more. “Well, since we last encountered your group on the train, we had traveled back to the Land of the Dragons, to face the emperor. We discovered he was under the influence of a spell by a man named Jafar. It took a great deal of effort, and some sacrifices to bring him to justice, but we succeeded.” “Sacrifices?” Michelle asked, picking up on his hesitancy on the word. “Beatrix, in the midst of the battle… lost her heart to this monstrous thing called Kurt Zisa. It came so fast. Got her with its first attack,” not wanting to dwell on the subject Leon moved on quickly, “Not long after that, we received word from Merlin that all of you earthlings… save a few had vanished… all approximately at the same time, despite being spread out all over the world.” Michelle sat quietly, her hand paused in place mid stroke. She thought about Beatrix and how she had gotten into this hell. She said nothing and continued listening as Leon continued, “We all gathered at the train, where the most of the earthlings had been known to be. There, we came up with a plan, splitting up into more groups in order to search for you, while the nobody, Zexion and the mage Kuja worked hard on discovering the source of the magic that made you vanish as well as replicate it in order to find where it took you.” “Well, I could tell you who, if that makes any difference.” Michelle said to Leon, “It was that clown Kefka.” “Kefka? Sorry, I don’t know who he is, though I have heard the name from another earthling that led us here, but I’ll get to that later.” Leon sighed before he continued once more. He didn’t like long stories, especially telling them, “So, we split up, hoping to cover as much of the world as possible, an impossible task if you ask me, but Sora insisted. Everything went relatively smooth for the next few weeks, but there was a notable increase in the heartless activity everywhere we went as time went on.” “Few weeks?” Michelle whispered under her breath, but let him continue. “Things eventually got so bad, every place we went, was more like a battle ground than a city, village, or whatever. It was always worse with increasing populations, cities were nearly laid to nothing but waste where smaller villages were usually still standing… though not for long. The assaults by hordes of heartless that usually followed us would destroy those places, making our stays brief. We didn’t want to involve more innocents, but nothing could be helped.” “That’s terrible.” Michelle said with tears in her eyes, still not stopping Leon from continuing his recitation of the events. “Eventually, it was so bad, stopping to rest wasn’t nearly an option. But… it was inevitable… not all of us could keep our pace, and so we lost more.” “Who?” Michelle asked, though she wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear the answer. “The nobody with the guitar… or sitar, Demyx. Jack Sparrow. Silver, the cook. Alexis, one of the earthlings that managed to stay behind. She used a gun blade like me… she was just getting used to the weight…” Leon paused, the losses obviously laying heavy on him, though he wouldn’t let it show in his face, “The other groups reported more losses. More earthlings that joined the fight and fell, a boy named Bobby, a mage named Alan, another guy named Matt... and more…” A silence hung in the hallway where they’d moved James for safety till Leon spoke again, “This continued for months… I lost track of how long. It wasn’t even about finding you anymore I’m sorry to say… it was about survival… and finding the person responsible for all the destruction. And that’s when we received an update from Merlin, thank god for him… he worked overtime for us… all of us. All the groups were completely and totally reliant on him for his support. I’m sure Zexion’s research could have moved faster with his help, but none of us would have made it without him there providing us with potions and new equipment.” “So what happened next?” “Oh sorry…” Leon spoke, trying to clear his mind, “We got an update from Merlin that we were all to report back to Train. We arrived… those few of us left, and gathered at the huge mirror that Zexion had been studying. He said we didn’t have much time, and that would likely only be able to perform it once, so that’s why he’d waited for everyone to come together like that. He said, it was likely a one way trip, and coming back would probably be impossible by the same means we’d get in. None of us turned back… there was nothing to turn back to. The world was in shambles… and that’s when it happened. The sky grew dark, but it wasn’t night, nor was it cloud cover. It seemed as though every heartless in the world was bearing down on our position. We fought off the enemy while Zexion cast the spell. And when he finally did, we all found ourselves here, minus one Illusionist nobody.” “That’s terrible.” Michelle said, dropping her head. Leon put a hand on our shoulder, “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine.” “That’s right. Now, we have nothing to hold us back. If there’s nothing to go back to…” James sat up, a releasing a groan as he stretched his tight muscles, “We’ll just need to keep looking forward, and pave a new path… starting with this hallway.” James got to his feet, despite his wife’s earnest rejections and began walking, using the wall as a brace. They walked along, heading further into the darkening pathway as Michelle asked, “So, is what you said true; about it being several months since we vanished and ended up here?” “Of course. Why do you ask?” “Because for us…” Michelle began. “It’s only been a few hours.” James finished, leaving the Gunblader to his thoughts, “Something’s going on here… something bigger than this whole tournament... I just know it…” They walked a bit more in silence, then Michelle asked another question, “By the way… who was the earthling who led you to us?” “Oh, that white mage, Rae.” “Rae?!” Both James and Michelle spouted at once. James began thinking out-loud, “But Rae was supposed to be with Noelle. Why was she there to lead you to us?” “You don’t think…” Michelle asked, biting her lip, pausing on the taboo word. “It’s possible. No way to tell. Let’s just keep going… I get the feeling we’ll all be meeting up again soon up ahead.” ------------------------------------------------------------- [[Earlier…]] Noelle strolled towards the empty hallway, ignoring the frustrated pleas of James, stopping only moments before the edge of the doorway, wary of the barrier that would no doubt shimmer and lock her in. As James quieted down, and she could hear his footsteps fade away as well, she glanced back at Rae, with a wordless nod. She stepped through the doorway and the barrier did not disappoint. She listened to the second metallic jingle of Rae following, and after a moment, she turned around and noticed Rae wasn’t following. She ran back to the doorway, stopping just before hitting the barrier, “Rae!” The white mage waved at Noelle, “Sorry Noelle! I’m still worried about the others! I can’t just leave like this!” “What about me?!” Noelle yelled back rather angry. “I’ll be back! Just stay there and don’t go anywhere! I just want to make sure Maggie’s alright. It won’t be long if I run!” The white mage turned and took off leaving Noelle to yell after her. After several minutes, she finally sighed and gave up, turning back to the lonely hallway, “Alone again.” Then without waiting for Rae’s return, she headed down the hallway to face fate head on. Rae ran back the way she came, running down the hallway and down the staircase, moving as fast as her feet could carry her. The seemingly endless staircase continued to roll out before her for about ten minutes. When the white mage finally lost her footing in her haste and tripped. As she fell, she let out a scream sure that this tumble would hurt. To her surprise, she didn’t fall, but instead, landed into the open arms of a strong man. Her savior placed her back on her feet as she looked around. Cloud, Leon, Sora, Riku, and Axel all stood at varying angles looking at her. She blinked a few times, then looked around behind them, “Is um... Maggie with you?” “Maggie?” Seemed to be their general reaction. “You mean she isn’t? You didn’t pass anyone heading here?” They all shook their heads as Sora explained, “We just got here a few minutes ago. Zexion teleported us in with some magic mirror. Ended up in what Leon here thinks was a prison of some sort.” “That’s it! That’s the place we left her! You mean she wasn’t there?” their blank stares told her everything, “You don’t think… something happened to her do you?” “Before that…” Leon interrupted, “Can you please tell us what’s going on here?” Rae then went about the process of explaining everything in a very short, vague, and hasty story about how they were all trapped and defeated to end up in the prison, finishing with, “And now everyone is split up going down these different hallways and I couldn’t leave Maggie behind because I was worried and now you’re telling me she wasn’t there which means something must have happened to her. Wait!” She yelled with a sudden realization, “There were two ways out of the prison, one hallway went right, the other went left. We took the left one! What if she took the right one by mistake! We have to check!” “I’ll go with her.” Cloud announced, turning back already and heading down the stair case, “We’ll catch up. You guys go help the others.” With that, Rae and Cloud continued down the steps towards the prison, only this time, Rae was more mindful of her feet.” ------------------------------------------------------------- [[The Present]] Amy strolled along with her guns at her sides, fingers of the trigger, “Nothing’s going to catch me off guard… no way… no boogie men are going to catch Amy off her game. No-sir-y!” “Do you always talk to yourself like that?” Kirstin asked, giggling. “Just hyping myself up, can’t go into battle all nervous. Gotta be prepared! Gotta be strong! Gotta be on the ball! Not nervous at all!” Amy did an elbow thrust, expressing her enthusiasm. “You seem pretty nervous to me.” Kirstin replied, laughing harder now at Amy’s antics. Kirstin had never actually met Amy before. She’d split from the group to take refuge in Disney Castle long before Amy had joined up with her friends on the train. “What? I’m not nervous. Not at all.” Amy looked forward and strutted forward confidently. Amy then felt two hands come from behind, grabbing her shoulders without warning, just as she heard Kirstin scream, “Amy look out!” Amy screamed and jumped out of her skin, spinning around as fast as lightning, only to face Kirstin bent over laughing, “Ahahahaha! I got you! See? You’re SO nervous.” Amy pouted, “Aw, come on! Why’d you have to go and throw me off my game like that? I was totally pulling off the bad-a** look too.” Kirstin sighed, standing up straight, a serious look on her face, solid as stone, “Well… maybe I hate that sort of attitude.” Amy froze, looking at Kirstin under a new light, only to have the light shatter a second later as she continued, “Haha! I’m just kidding! Sorry Amy… you just… were so open! I couldn’t help myself. I won’t do it again. Promise.” Amy sighed and smiled, “Nah, don’t worry about it. Everyone has to loosen up. I was just being uptight is all. Thanks a bunch Kirstin.” “No problem Amy.” As the two continued up the winding staircase, Kirstin burst out loud, in a cheerful tone, “Hey look up there! There’s a light up ahead!” Amy was already aware, and despite Kirstin’s enthusiastic and optimistic attitude, Amy still felt the nervous set in again, gripping the handles of her pistols tightly… ------------------------------------------------------------- Mathy climbed the staircase before him, wordless, thoughtless, only striving forward without any other thought but contemplation of his next battle. Ahead he saw the light pouring through a door, giving life to the featureless hallway. He climbed the last few steps, taking a deep breath, peering though the eye slots of his mask with glare. He stopped at the door, looking down to his hand where he held a small memento of Dawn, a simple little thing, a brooch in the shape of a dove. It was the only thing he found left behind after the battle. His heart sank deeper as he thought about how he failed her… and then of all things, how the battle was won by Kyle. It was his fault. It would always be his fault. Mathy looked up from the charm, slipping it into his pocket, before glancing back through the door towards a huge rotunda… ------------------------------------------------------------- Noelle walked silently onward, upward, always upward. Did this staircase ever end? Was it just Kefka’s cruel humor to have her walk till she dropped dead from exhaustion? No, Kefka was cruel be he wasn’t boring either. Noelle knew that if this was all his doing, she’d run into something soon enough. Just on cue, as those very thoughts ran through her head, she spotted the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully not THAT light at the end of the tunnel, but she continued on despite the disturbing thought. She stopped at the door, second guessing herself one last time, then took a breath, ready to take the plunge… ------------------------------------------------------------- Each, though in different places stood at their respective doors, staring into the light, each, given one last chance to turn back, each, swallowed their fear stepped into the light, then each, faced their fate apart in body, but together as one. -------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------- Noelle made her way to the center of the large circular room, glancing from wall to wall, noting no sign of enemy, but she was sure that was a barrier that put itself between her and the two exits. Noelle was unpleasantly dragged away from her assumption that she had gotten lucky as a dark portal opened up before her. Out steps a strong, silent man, clothed in the black cloak of the organization. Noelle summoned her weapon and prepared for battle. Only, the enemy did not. Lexaeus, also known as the organization’s Silent Hero, spoke in his deep, calm voice, “I… would rather not have to fight you.” Noelle blinked a few times, then brushed the hair from her face, then blinked a few more times, “Wait… what?” “I said, I would rather not have to fight you. It would be unpleasant.” Lexaeus stated, unmoving, like a stone wall between Noelle and her exit. “Well, in that case… why not join me? You know, help me break out of here?” Noelle asked, feeling hopeful. “I can’t do that.” The nobody answered sternly. Noelle sighed, “Aw man… should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.” “Kefka promised us our hearts back… if in return we guard these passageways.” “Oh come on! You know he’s just going to betray you right?” Noelle blurted out in exasperated tones, “That guy will tell you anything to do what he wants.” “I don’t mean to be rude… but I hope you’re wrong.” Lexaeus stated once more, still holding his monotone. “You’re being played. Please? Just let me pass. Say that I beat you, then they can’t blame you.” Noelle pleaded calmly. “I can’t do that either.” “Why not?” “Well, first of all, this room has a one way entry. The exit only opens when one of the parties are defeated.” “Then can you just let me win?” Noelle asked, knowing what the answer would be. “I may have no heart… but I still have my pride. I would never simply let you win. Disgraceful.” “It was worth a shot.” Noelle shrugged, “Well, it seems we’re left with no choice then. I never did get my chance to fight in the tournament… not that I wanted to in the first place.” “Then you insist that we fight?” “What other choice do we have? Or do you plan to just stand there till one of us starves to death?” “One of us would pass out from exhaustion long before then.” Lexaeus said before sighing and summoning his weapon, “Prepare yourself little girl. This will not be easy.” “Dang… could he be anymore stiff? Loosen up a little. Geez.” Noelle whispered under her breath, before shouting, “Alright! You got yourself a challenge!” [[Cue: Murasaki no Yukari]] Noelle rolled up her sleeves and gripped her spear with both hands. ((Here he comes human… )) the slow voice of titan reached her mind just as the nobody started out on his charge. Noelle didn’t wait for him, she stabbed her spear into the floor and held on as the floor rippled and rolled forward like a growing wave, crumbling the tiles turning them to pebbles in mere seconds. The two collided, Lexaeus’ massive sword, and Noelles earth wave. The wave burst out, but instead of water, roots sprang forth, wrapping outward with curved sharp spines. Lexaeus wiped his ax-like blade from one side to the other, cutting the roots like trimming a bush. When he cleared the path, he found no trace of Noelle anywhere. Please don’t find me… please don’t find me… Noelle thought as she heard his footsteps grow closer and she closed her eyes. “Hiding in a battle is not an honorable style.” And dyeing in close combat is? I’ll stick with this thanks!“So be it.” Lexaeus spoke, then went silent. Noelle began to think he was gone when suddenly Lexaeus stomped his foot to the ground, sending chunks of rock out of the floor everywhere till finally Noelle blasted out, flipping wildly like a fish out of water. Noelle regained her composure just as the man’s large weapon flew in and nearly cleaved her in half if it were not for a well placed block with her spear. Still, despite this she was hit with such force that she rocketed back to the floor, saved only by the helping hand of her giant companion. “Were you hurt human?” Titan asked, kneeling next to her, his hard features put off only by his gentle eyes. “I’m fine thanks.” Noelle said, looking back to Lexaeus who stood politely waiting till she was ready. “Still want to fight?” The nobody asked, pausing a little longer, giving her the chance to give up. “Of course!” Lexaeous didn’t waste any time, closing in once more, met midway by Titan’s heavy fist. The nobody put up surprising strength, holding back even Titan’s strike despite their immense size difference. Titan showed obvious surprise as he relinquished his weapon and grabbed onto Titan’s fist with both hands, still holding Titan back at full strength. “Come on Titan! You can do it!” Noelle cheered out words of encouragement but they made little difference. “He’s… strong… human.” Titan struggled to say in the midst of his test of strength. Then, to both he and Noelle’s surprise, Titan gave ground, taking a step back to keep his balance. Then, just as it seemed as though Lexaeus might win, Titan swung around his other arm and crushed Lexaeus in one fell swoop. Titan took a deep breath, groaning a bit, “He… was very strong.” “You know… you could have done that sooner.” Noelle tilted her head to the side with a quizzical look. “I was… how do you humans say… curious.” Then, something happened neither Noelle nor Titan would have ever expected in their lifetimes… or for all time. Titan’s arms shifted. The earth underneath shattered and turned the entire tile floor into practically dust instantaneously. Titan’s arms rose back up as Titan bared down on them with all his weight. Lexaeus rose up, his powers of earth driving his form up from the floor. Then, with one final, heavy push, he thrust Titan back, making him stumble and fall on his back. “No way!” Noelle yelled and shot her eyes from Titan to Lexeaus, who lunged into the air and came down with his sword. Noelle screamed, reaching out with her heart and turning Titan back into stone before he was hit. Lexaeus struck his sword against the rock, and shattered it, sending rubble everywhere. Noelle narrowly dodged a huge chunk that could have crushed her underneath its size leaving no trace. The nobody came at her sword posed to cleave her in half, but she was ready. Her hands spread out before her as she leaped backwards avoiding the strike. Seeds scattered onto the floor by his feet, immediately taking root and shooting up bamboo spears narrowly missing the heavy-armed man. Noelle threw more seeds out to her sides, more bamboo springing up just as fast. She reached out and grabbed hold of one, pulling it from the ground. She held it like a javelin, waiting as the plants all aligned with the angle of her improvised weapon. She took a step back then tossed it forward with all her strength. The bamboo spears in front and around her all fired off in the same direction, raining down on Lexaeus with the intensity and precision of a firing squad. The silent hero brought his blade up, and brought it down splintering her thrown weapon to pieces and impacting the floor. The floor shot up forming a rock wall between him and the rest of her projectiles, “Fighting at range is dishonorable.” “You think allot of things are dishonorable that I think are GREAT… so let’s agree to disagree.” “But I’ll make an exception this time.” “Huh?” Noelle stuttered, as Lexaeus bashed his own rock wall and sent the whole thing flying forward at her in countless pieces. Noelle reached into another pocket and threw out a single seed. The plant spread out in a line, shooting up spines all along its length, the longest at the center, then more spines from those spines all interconnected throughout the. Within the matrix of branches, bark covered membranes filled in. The web like plant took the shrapnel blow for blow. Some pieces of the plant towards its edges were blown away, but they immediately grew back to replace the lost appendage. Just as the impacts drew to a close, Noelle breathed a sigh of relief just a moment too soon before her shield was obliterated by a single strike from Lexaeus’ sword. Noelle flew back, rolling a good bit before stopping dead on the floor. Noelle struggled to get up, Lexaeus still standing patiently for her to either give up, or return to her feet and fight. [[Cue: Turii - Panta Rhei]] Noelle dug her fingers into the crumbled floor, running in through her fingers like dirt till she made a fist, anger flowing through her then suddenly, a realization, Dirt! That’s it! The floor is like dirt! I can use those now!Noelle stood to her feet finally, a huge grin on her face as she yelled, “Fine, you want close up and personal? You got it! I’ll give a really taste of what mother nature is really capable of!” Noelle tossed a seed into the air and summoned her spear. She stabbed upward, the tip of the spear striking the airborne seed. The seed sprang to life, vines wrapping down over the spear, clinging like a child to its mother. The tip grew a bud that swiftly bloomed into an exotic flower shaped much like a pinecone and just as hard too. Noelle charged forward into the ready guard of Lexaeus, but rather than stabbing like a spear, she spun her weapon around like a mace, smacking it against his weapon, an immediate spray of sparkling pollen spear out with the jolt. The nobody pulled back with his weapon and spun around, swinging low as Noelle jumped over his blade. The sword struck the ground at an angle, releasing a jagged protrusion of rocks that shot up to meet the agromancer. Noelle brought the spear down underneath her, smacking it against the rock face, releasing more pollen spores, then up into Lexaeus’ jaw. Jarred, the man stepped back, surprised at the girl’s sudden change in strategy and confidence. He pulled back, then brought his blade down on the floor releasing a jagged, vertical “V” along the ground towards Noelle. The girl leapt into the attack, landing in the very center of the V, running down its length, the tip of her spear rattling rapidly against the serrated edge. Lexaeus pulled his sword from the ground, consequently filling in the V with spikes that ran from him all the way down to meet her. Noelle threw down another seed, this time a large trunk of a winding tree shot out growing as Noelle ran up and along it straight to her opponent where it slammed into the ground where he stood only a moment before. Noelle leapt into the air, holding the spear over her shoulder as she flew, the other hand reaching into another seed pocket. Lexaeus brought his blade down and around to his side, holding it with both hands. The two brought their weapons together, Noelle smashing the end of her spear into his sword, the tip bursting into nothing but powder as she flew back and her spear flew in a different direction knocked from her grip. Lexaeus went to give chase, but found he couldn’t. Vines sprang up from all around him, gripping him and holding every limb to the floor. He looked around from limb to limb trying to free himself until finally glaring at Noelle with a stern look as she stood to her feet, “Was this your plan? All of that for this? This will only hold me for so long.” He was right, even then she could hear the sound of vines giving want and tendons stopping under pressure, but she showed no sign of worry, “No… mother earth… is no so predictable… and neither am I.” Lexaeus then noticed, the pink tint in the air all around them, permeating every square inch of the room. Noelle started with her hands at her sides and slowly rose them up above her head. With her motions flowers grew from the floor, every spot covered, not a single space spared. The white and purple flowers released more yellow pollen into the air as well, mixing in but not combining with the pink making the air a swirling whirlpool of color. Then, she threw her arms out to her sides, palms wide open. At first nothing happened, the colors seemed to fade, and Lexaeus might have thought that something had gone wrong and she failed, but the confident look in her eye told him otherwise. Something caught his eye off to the side. Right next to his face, in perfect view, so close up he could almost feel the brushes of its tiny breeze against his cheek, a flower, grew right out of thin air, it floated, its petals’ edges shimmering revealing their true nature. Noelle spoke, and the entire arena bloomed in unison, “Metamorphic Silex Silicis Sarcochilus Flower Burial.” With that, the razor sharp swarm of flowers closed in, avoiding Noelle and formed a whirlwind so thick with the flora that Lexaeus was nowhere to be seen within. As the petals fell and scattered throughout the room, Noelle stood in the center of flower field, panting with her now very apparent exhaustion. “Looks like you dealt with him pretty harshly don’t you think, girly?” the sarcastic voice of the former, Fury of Dancing Flames reached Noelle’s ears. Noelle spun around and locked eyes with another newcomer, “Axel!” “That’s right! You got it memorized.” Axel grinned, giving off a dangerous, but friendly aura. “You here to start trouble too?” Noelle said, calling forth her spear once more, but the trembling in her arms gave her no hopes of threatening the nobody. “Relax flower girl. I’m here to help. Sora and the others are off helping the others down the other paths.” Axel said raising his arms up, surrendering to her right from the get go, “Besides, would it reall be smart picking a fight with me before you’re done with him?” Noelle went to ask, but froze, listening to the deep voice of Lexaeus yell out, “You!” “It’s Axel. I swore YOU had it memorized.” Before anything else could be said, Axel tossed his chakram forward, a blazing tornado tearing its way across the flower field and impacting the tied down nobody. The tornado grew with intensity as it added fuel by sucking in the surrounding plants. In seconds, half of the flowers were scorched, and Lexaeus was no more. “Well, that takes care of that. What do you say we get moving now then. Looks like the way is clear.” “If you don’t mind…” “Hmm?” Axel asked, turning back to her, only to look down at the girl lying on her back in the midst of the flowers. “Just rest here for awhile…” Before Axel could object, all that he would get as replies were the soft rise and falls of her breath. [[Authors Note: Silex Silicis Sarcochilus- roughly means in Latin, Bladed Orchid.]] ------------------------------------------------------------- [[Cue : Beyond the Bounds]] As Mathy stepped through the doorway into the rotunda, he locked eyes with an individual he didn’t recognize. He wore tattered black robes and held an odd combination of a book and chain. Mac shifted slightly, but said nothing. Mathy continued strolling forward, his steps gaining pace and tempo. Mac clenched his book and lifted his chain, the steel links clattering together as he prepared for his opponent. There were no words to mark the start of battle, no buzzer to give them the go ahead. They both knew what they had to do and neither was going to give ground for the other. And just like that, the music of battle would once more fill the rotunda as these two clashed in mortal combat. Mathy went from a steady, fast walk, to a violent dash that tore the floor asunder, lighting streaming in his wake, flowing outward making the tile more as water as the waves his pulsating movements sent out rippled the entire room. He didn’t go straight for the mage, as he was already waving around the floating book before him, turning pages into deadly spells firing off in his direction. Fire, Ice, Water, even lighting came in like continuous artillery fire, every shot exploding around Mathy but not deterring him from his intended path. Mathy zigzagged inward towards Mac, bypassing his attacks and speeding in for the kill. As his claws struck, Mac raised his chain, its twisted form wrapping around Mathy’s leg as though it had a mind of its own. Mac ducked slightly, only an inch, allowing his opponents claw to pass right by the side of his face. The clawed fighter struck from another angle with his other claw, but was foiled again by the versatile mage who spun back, rolling the chain up and over Mathy, entangling his arm. He jerked back trying free him arm, but moved his attention elsewhere as his other arm was entangled as well. Mac rolled around Mathy to his back, twisting the chain to wrap around his remaining leg as Mathy attempted to step back and keep Mac in his line of sight. Now having his opponent entangled, Mac looped the chain around Mathy’s neck, completely pinning him down. He pressed the book into Mathy’s back, the pages glowing a deep red, brightening until releasing a powerful firaja spell. As Mathy flew forward, the chain extended further out of Mac’s sleeve providing its seemingly never ending length. Another chain extended from his right sleeve, attaching itself to the spine of his book. Mathy flew, trying to gain freedom from the chain, finally able to free his neck only moments before Mac jerked back, stopping him in place. Mathy now face his opponent, but had his vision of him blotted out by the book. It floated there with its pages wide open, fluttering through its supply of spells, then pulled back suddenly, scattering its pages in the air around the Electric Blitzkrieg. The book returned to its master’s hand, drawn by the chain in his sleeve, then with another pull, the chain attached to Mathy snapped at the link closest to Mathy’s chest, sending a signal to all the pages around to detonate in a colorful collage of elemental spells. Mac moved back to the defensive as the freed fighter flew in almost completely unhindered by the eruption of spells. Pages from the book went up in a flurry, and within a second, Mathy was upon Mac slashing him back and forth with his claws, leaving no room in between for a counter attack. Mac’s chain extended to strike Mathy’s mask, ricocheting ever so slightly to spare shattering it to pieces. Mathy lifted his claw and caught the chain by the links. Mac instinctively pulled back, only to have Mathy move in with it and deck him with all the momentum built up in his body. Lighting blasted from his claws as he tore away at Mac with the whip like arcs of lightning. Mac jumped back only to watch Mathy do the same, drawing his hands to his sides. Mac blocked not knowing what attack would hit him. Mathy thrust his palms forward releasing an aurablast followed by sequential bolts of lightning from the ceiling in its path. Mac flew back, struck repeatedly mid flight, until he slid to a stop on the floor. Mathy moved in, pouncing on his prey and digging the claws in rapidly and tearing away at the mage. What Mathy failed to notice however were the scattered pages that floated all around, gathering darkness and forming several dozen Neo-Shadows. As his maddened claws tore into Mac, a heartless pounced over him and struck him on the side. Mathy turned away from Mac, and in a flash dispersed the heartless. Mathy blinked from behind his now cracked mask, as the Neoshadow vanished, leaving behind a cut sheet of paper. The paper lit up and exploded outward with a bolt of lightning. Mathy skid back, blocking the thundaga spell with his claws and absorbing the energy as best he could. As the spell dwindled, he turned to go back after his target but was once against assaulted by heartless. This time, they in their greater numbers swarmed Mathy, pouncing on him and clinging to his legs arms and torso. He cut down what he could, but they were simply too numerous, and it seemed that more and more were spawning around him as numerous pages fell from the roof. His gaze shot up where he spotted the book floating face down spinning, scattering its pages all over. In that moment of realization, as the last heartless tackled him and covered his face, the heartless glowed in unison, then exploded with their spells from the inside out. Mac stood to his feet, recalling his book, and stood over Mathy, “I don’t know who you are… but it would seem you lost your heart for battle. What is it that drove you this far? What kept you going that you lost? I wonder… but I guess… it doesn’t matter now.” Mac lifted his book and held it open to him. He placed a hand on the open pages, his other lifted to the roof. Power gathered on his palm, and reacted with a black portal that opened above, “Dark Scathe.” Four black spheres sank down out of the portal, forming a triangle of sorts with the outer 3 with the fouth at the center. Three black beams shot out of the outer spheres and intersected on the center. Mac’s eyes glowed a bright yellow as he stepped back into a dark portal, creating a disturbing contrast with the rest of him that vanished into the darkness. The power overhead grew, collecting to a single point, then in a smooth motion they spiraled out, cutting a swirling design into the floor. The central ball of darkness formed a glyph on its surface, ancient symbols flashed all over and sank in. Then, with no other warning, the black sphere released a beam like no other, engulfing Mathy within and blotting him from all sight. Numerous hearts rose out of the shadows that now completely inhabited the floor in Dark Scathe’s wake belonging to the many heartless that had gathered to Dark Scathe’s power. Mac stepped out into the living surface, wading through the foot deep darkness with tangible form. Mac looked around and sighed, “Well, I guess that’s it. I should be moving… Kefka is probably initiating the last steps of plan… shouldn’t be late.” Mac opened a dark portal and went to step through, only to find it close up an inch before removing his hand in the process, “What the hell?” [[Cue: Xepher]] He looked around, spotting no one present to fight, no reason he wouldn’t be able to leave. He heart as shift behind him. He spun around and saw a black form drag itself from the darkness. Mac felt a nervous laugh growing in his throat as he said, “You… you didn’t… you idiot. You really did it didn’t you?” Mac took a few steps back away from the black mass that took Mathy’s form, only the mask gave itself color followed by several white glimmers of his claws that protruded from the shadow, “I can’t believe it. You abandoned your own heart… in order to survive the attack. Brilliant. You would have just been carried off to safety like the rest… but you would rather lose your heart and win. Well too bad! Because I still have what I’m fighting for!” Mathy moved with fluidity like water. Mac whipped out both chains, crisscrossing them over Mathy. The clawed heartless rolled underneath, and ran near parallel to the floor. The darkness built up in front of Mathy as he plowed through it, unhindered at all by its presence. Mac trudged backwards through it like muck, trying to put some space between him and the bloodthirsty opponent. Mathy was upon him in seconds, his impact blasting darkness up like a wave over Mac, blinding him for the moment, though he still swung the chains out before him madly, trying to strike something. Mac received a cut straight up from his hip to shoulder, lifting him off the floor. A spark shot out from that point to the roof, drawing him up giving him a strange sense of weightlessness. The mage felt magnetized to the roof, held upside down, through gravity still pulled him down. Matthew flipped up, arcs of lighting drawing him to the roof. He walked forward towards Mac though he moved as though there was no difference. Mac shad a hard time getting used to fighting upside down, even more of a hard time as Mathy ran in and drew lightning bolt up from the floor. Each bolt coated itself in the darkness, drawing up from the floor leaving a strangely shaped pillar in its place. Mac fought awkwardly, spinning his chains around, and firing off spells. Mathy avoided, moving and contorting his body in way no human could, no longer bound by physical form. Mac stuck his chains into the roof tiles, then tore several away, sending them down to the floor. He repeated this several times attempting to dislodge Mathy and knock him down. Mathy instead sent Mac to the floor pulling a similar move, only simply flying past with a trail of lighting behind that ripped everything to shreds. Mac fell and landed in the shallow darkness, standing slowly, “I can’t lose here… he hasn’t gotten the best of me. I just need to… wait… where’d he go?” Mac spun around several times, nervously looking left and right and taking steps back, expecting a stab at his back. “Where are you?!” He yelled, and as if to answer, Mathy rose up from the shadows, directly in front of Mac. The mage stumbled backwards, and fell. Mathy stood over him, and leaned in, claw pressed to Mac’s chest and a voice escaping the mask, distorted and demonic, “But it would seem… you lost your heart for battle.” “NO!!!” Mac screamed, a pulse of darkness knocking Mathy’s heartless back. All the darkness on the floor flowed into Mac, as he held his chest, “I won’t! I won’t lose! I have something to protect! I have someone I want to save! You have nothing! Nothing! I’ll defeat you! I’ll destroy you! I’ll do anything! Even if it means sinking to your level…” As all the darkness in the room seemed to have drained down to the last drop, Mac spouted one last line, “Rae, I’m sorry.” Mac’s form then warped as featherless wings sprout out behind him, growing and forming an inky apparition of his summon, Quetzacoatl. A bird’s skull formed over the top half of Mac’s face, the eye sockets filled in with glowing yellow orbs. His robed shredded and lost all semblance of once being clothing, now only flowed off of him, engulfing him in a sea of black cloth sheets. Mathy moved in, rolling out of the was of the distorted summon’s lighting breath. Bolt after bolt passed between the two x-earthlings, Mathy’s heartless slowly closing the distance. When he was finally in range, he lunged in, his claws aimed for the very center of Mac’s heartless seal. Mac didn’t move, in fact, he seemed anchored to the spot. Mathy slammed his weapon against Mac’s seal, sending a ripple out through the room. A thousand chains sprang up the moment this occurred all around the clawed fighter. As his claws sank, in, the chains collected on his mask and heartless symbol appeared in its surface. As both forces pushed into one another and lighting shot out destroying most of the arena, both side also gave ground. Cracks appear in both Mathy’s mask and Mac’s seal. Then, as one giant lightning bolt struck down absorbing them both in its light, both broke. And without another sound, they faded, their hearts floating to the sky. ------------------------------------------------------------- “Really?” Amy spoke shocked, looking to Kirstin with a look of disgust, “Of all the people we end up fighting… we get the flamer.” “I assure you, I would never use flames.” Marluxia corrected, holding his sythe on his shoulder, “Flames are Axel’s specialty… which brings me to wonder… where is that traitor? I’ve been meaning to pay him back for his treachery.” Amy groaned, holding her guns at the ready, “Well, might as well get this over with. Not happy my big moment to shine is fighting the flower guy.” “You’ll regret it if you underestimate me.” Marluxia said swinging his scythe once and sending a gust of wind in their direction. “Same goes for you Pinky!” Amy said, firing off the first two shots simultaneously, “So bring it on! This girl loves a challenge!” [[Cue: Red Fraction]] “Fine, prepare yourselves.” The Graceful Assassin announced as he swung his scythe before him once more, kicking up a swirl of rose petals that blocked the bullets. Another swing sent the petals out like a wall, blocking him from their view. Amy blinks as a petal passed close to her face, and a second later found him close up, swinging his scythe around at her side. Amy ducked and fired off two shots into his face, the bullets exploding with light as they impacted his scythe blade. He spun around and cleaved the floor forcing Amy to jump back into Kirstin as she switched places and moved into close range combat. Her swirling combat style kept Kirstin moving, waving her glaive around with ease despite its size. Marluxia made quick work over her, sliding down to his knee and pressing off. He picked up a whirlwind of petals as he launched himself and Kirstin into the air. Several sequential slashes removed the glaive from her grip and another strike sent her flying into the floor. Amy side stepped out of the way rather than trying to catch Kirstin, firing off several bullets at Marluxia as he spun the scythe before him deflecting her bullets easily. One bullet seemed to piece through his guard once, only for his form to revert into petals and more petals to gather next to her. She spun around and couldn’t even pull the trigger before his weapon picked her up in a flurry and threw her across the room covered in roses. Kirstin couldn’t even advance mid attack to strike at an opening. The wind was enough to lift her from the ground if she took a step. She lifted her gaze in time to turn and roll out of the way of his blade which nearly cleaved her in half. She jumped back and had to continue back stepping as his relentless assault continued without delay. As one swing came in, leaving Kirstin helpless with her back to the wall a bullet flew in and struck Marluxia in the side. The nobody spun around and threw his weapon clear across the rotunda and stuck it in the wall over Amy’s shoulder, detonating it a second later. Amy sprawled on the ground, as Kirstin struck at her awaited opening. She moved swiftly, but carefully, moving her body and weapon as one to hit their opponent with the upmost power. She spun the blade up and over her shoulder, rolling the whole weapon behind her back. She let go, rolling her body along the length of the weapon’s shaft. She grabbed hold once more as she reached its end, thrusting forward, stopping an inch from his chest, then, let out a pulse of water from the edge. He stumbled back as she spun, her feet gliding across the floor while water gushed out right below her. She spun with such speed ,the water that spread across the floor formed tiny waves spreading out and away from her. She sliced him across the chest, then pulled back, spinning the weapon behind her neck, drawing it around under her opposite shoulder, driving the blunt end up into his jaw, then the blade up to cut him diagonally on the arm. The blade spun in the air using the built up momentum, repeatedly cutting the same place like a saw as she let go and ducked under her own weapon, letting it travel along the length of her body where she grabbed it as it reached the tip of her right hand. She drew it down for a final blow, but clashed with his weapon. The graceful assassin rolled his weapon round skillfully, then spun around unexpectedly close, leaving her open. She quickly stabbed her weapon to the floor and lifted herself up to kick him in the chest. He didn’t even flinch, drawing back the scythe blade that had been positioned behind her back. Amy’s shots came in again just in time, leaving Kirstin just enough time to roll under and out of the way. She leapt into the air, spinning upside-down with her weapon pointed to the floor, a whirlpool of water coming off her collecting all the man’s petals that threatened to cast their spell of teleportation. Amy fired off several shots, knocking the man out of the whirlpool as Kirstin landed a bit away with a smirk. The smirk vanished a second later when the assassin returned spinning his blade and throwing it out before him. The tornado threw Kirstin into the air, then his weapon after returning to his hand, went forth once more to snatch her from the air, carry her over, and slam her to the wall. “Kirstin!” Amy yelled over concerned, but was relieved to see her friend stand up unharmed. She coughed a bit, but smiled, “Don’t worry! We must be getting him off his game. He missed me, just got the air knocked out is all.” Amy grinned, and fired off more shots at Marluxia, who spun around and hit all of the bullets back at her with twice the velocity. She dived out of the way as they imbedded themselves in the wall behind her. She looked up and rolled immediately as his scythe stuck into the ground then tore out sending tile and rock all over, as well as some stray drops of water. Amy shot close range, bouncing the shot off the wall behind him and into his back. He swung down on her despite this, and continued his restless attacks on the gunner who consistently foiled his plans. She continued dodging using handsprings and rolls to keep moving and firing shots, bouncing them off surfaces and into the scythe wielder. This indirect form of attack left her opponent unable to predict her weapon’s trajectory, giving her a newfound edge. Just she thought she might be getting somewhere, Marluxia knocked her back and sent her flying into Kirstin, who caught her friend and set her down safely. Kirstin charged forward with Amy supplying cover fire, her weapons changing in a flash of light into two machineguns that fired off an endless barrage of bullets. Kirstin closed the gap as he deflected Amy’s shots, the barrage halting just as she might be in danger of being hit by friendly fire. Marluxia clashed with her weapon once more, pressing down on her with his greater strength, forcing her to take a knee, “Face is girl… you’re in no place to change me. Give in and maybe I can find a use for you.” “N-“ Kirstin groaned, trying to speak but couldn’t under the circumstances. “Hmm?” He leaned in further, “I can’t hear you.” He looked down by her feet and noticed a flow of water bubbling up from the cracks in the tile. He looked around, it was happening everywhere. He looked back to her and felt his footing giving way. “I said…” Kirstin pressed up with all her strength, aided by a geyser that launched him back and into a pool that was swiftly growing, “I said, I’d never give in!” With her words, the water burst from the floor, swiftly filling the room. In moments, the entire arena was flooded half way up the walls. Kirstin stood on the water as if it were flowing earth. Amy sat mounted on her summon Unicorn. Marluxia hung floating midair a few inchest from the water kicking up a small whirlwind to stay airborne. Amy rode in on her steed as Kirstin skated on the water, every movement creating waves on the surface that grew larger as she grew closer. Marluxia cut a quick “X” in the air and send a blast forward taking the same shape. Just as Kirstin commanded the water rose up beneath her feet and lifted her out of the attack’s path. It rose up into a large hill overlooking the graceful assassin as she slid down. She clashed with him as the water moved beneath their feet, lifting up and sucking away. Kirstin dug her feet, in swiftly carried away from his slash without having to actually move her legs. She was carried up into the water once more, the water arcing and bending, rising high over his head forming a tidal wave. Kirstin took her place at the very top of the wave and thrust her weapon forward, commanding the elemental charge. The wave moved oddly, not like normal water, but as though it was alive. A dragon head took shape, the upper half of the jaw forming from the wave’s tip, the lower from the water on which Marluxia stood. He stood, drawing his weapon back to strike, but Amy ridding past on the walls above the water rained bullets down on him. He wanted to retaliate but lost sight of her as she retreated back behind Kirstin’s water wall with incredible speed. The dragon in front of him lifted its jaw one last time, pulling away all the water in the arena to itself. It’s head reared up, a thunderous roar escaping its depths, then it came down onto Marluxia, shaking the entire battlefield and sending cracks up the walls. [[Cue: Lord of the Castle]] The water quickly drained away through the floor, leaving once more solid ground for them to stand on. The two girls stood side by side, staring at Marluxia as he stood to his feet and two gargantuan scythes tore themselves from the floor. They stood motionless until a voice came from behind them to distract them from their opponent’s transformation. “HEY!” the young keyblader yelled out as he trotted forward with his weapon ready, “So, is this they guy you’ve been fighting?” “Sora… once more you come to meddle in my affairs. You won’t escape me a second time.” “Second time? Who is this guy?” Sora asked, looking to the girls for answers, though they wouldn’t have enough time to answer. “Your ignorance will not save you. I was easy on you once because you played a part in my plans. No more. You play no part here.” “Shut up! I don’t care who you are… but no one threatens me or my friends!” Sora yelled as Marluxia rose off the floor, carrying with him a large monster underneath with two scythed arms capable of cutting a small building in two. Sora ran in unfazed in the face of this enemy, jumping right over the scythe as Marluxia swung it across to kill him. His keyblade blasted right through the armor made of darkness, his years of experience since their last encounter showed through clearly as Marluxia even in this giant and monstrous form hand to pull back to avoid being smashed to pieces. Kirstin and Amy quickly gave chase, running in lending aid in whatever way they could to Sora’s onslaught. Amy fired off several bullets into the broken portions of the monster, piecing the armor, and detonating them breaking away most of the armor on the forward shield. Kirstin dashed in, lunged into the air, and stabbed her glaive into the front through the unarmored portion of Marluxia’s boss form. The scythes twisted around and slashed at her, but she was already on the move. After jumping off the handle of her glaive, she made her up on top of the monstrosity to face Marluxia himself. He stood there bound in place into the roof of his lower half. Behind him, a fallen angel floated holding an elongated version of his original scythe. The angel swept across the area where Kirstin stood with the scythe, raising its empty black eyes to spot her high above with Sora. She spun around, allowing Sora to brace against the flat of her blade where finally at the height of their jump, Sora pressed off as she swung, launching Sora at Marluxia. Marluxia’s dark sentinel blocked his charge, moving over him like liquid, using its body as a shield. Meanwhile, as they fought above, Amy ran along the floor firing off limitless rounds into the side of the mechanical monster. Its whole form casing after her and sending out hundreds of rose shaped missiles that exploded on impact. She blasted several incoming shots, detonating them cuasing a chain through the others, though out of their remains several more took their place. Watching them close in quickly, Amy pulled out a tiny golden pocket watch that ticked away at a high speed. She tossed it out before her and shot, igniting its form, and causing it to explode in a shimmering light. Amy dashed through the light, feeling a sudden burst of speed. She flew along the edge of the arena, picking up more speed as the missiles flew in for the kill. Her feet lifted off the ground, sending her into a front flip, she flipped and cart wheeled out of the way of several explosions, then took to the wall. She ran along sideways, parallel to the floor and began heading higher up. The missiles aligned with the wall, chasing her down as she continued higher and higher, she turned around, and flipped backwards, firing off a barrage from her machine guns, her bullets took out most of the pursuers, but there was no end. She pressed off the wall and flew in, landing on top of the monster itself. The missiles continued to give chase as she made her high speed pass on Marluxia, unloading a clip into his back. The giant angel spun around and cleaved at the ground where Amy stood, but she had already leapt clear of the blasting zone. The angel’s scythe impacted the incoming missiles, detonating all of them. Marluxia’s angel screeched in a noise that caused everyone to cover their ears, its weapon shattered to pieces, it was now obviously mad. The monster as a whole spun in place at a rate that sent both Kirstin and Sora sprawling, trying to get a grip on something to stay on. Amy ran like the wind, not stopping to look back at Marluxia’s form charging in to crush her, she didn’t have to, she could see its shadow over hers just fine. She came to the wall and ran up, pressing off and bending to fire across the way to strike Marluxia head on. Her opponent flailed, the angel moved across the body and struck her right off the entire structure, though they all couldn’t help but get knock off balance when the entire monster crashed into the wall. Amy hit the wall a hit away and rolled on the floor, no longer moving. Marluxia lower half pulled itself from the wall, and floated over to her, the two scythed arms lifted overhead and came down. At the moment of truth, Sora came through, stopping the blade cold by putting his own through Marluxia. The keyblade broke though his chest like glass, and left him holding the pieces in his hands, “No! This can’t be happening! Not again! Not after coming this far!” The entire arena shook as Marluxia began to deteriorate. Sora ran over and grabbed hold of Kirstin, “Time to go!” The two ran and jumped off the monster and over to Amy. Both Kirstin and Sora took Amy by the shoulder and lifted her up, running for the door. The monster continued shaking the foundation with its screams till finally just as they were through the door, it exploded, taking out the roof and floor in a giant mix of white, black, and rose petals that sank down into the dark pit below. Kirstin was surprised to find Amy still conscious as she spoke, “Well that sucks… and here I wanted to go out the OTHER door.” Kirstin and Sora couldn’t help but laugh at Amy’s ability to be light hearted despite her injuries, “Come on.” Kirstin said lifting Amy up again, “Let’s go meet up with the others. They’re just up ahead… I can feel it.” ------------------------------------------------------------- [[Elsewhere]] Kyle climbed the endless steps, holding himself up by his arm against the wall. Something still drove him to keep going, despite his exhaustion. It seemed though, even if he wasn’t resting, his energy was being replenished. He couldn’t identify the source or how it was energizing him, but it was. And after all, Kyle wasn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth. He just continued climbing until he reached a large room. It was immediately obvious something big had happened there. The darkness tainting the entire rotunda was overwhelming. He stepped with caution, wondering in his head, if Mathy had been through there, and if so, how he could have survived something that left such a scar. The rifts in the floor and craters on the walls gave Kyle only more worries. Kye walked slowly across the rotunda, eying ever mark with care, making sure nothing remained that might spring out at him. Some shadows scampered about, but Kyle didn’t have the energy nor will to deal with them. He made it to the other door and headed down the hall, then up another flight of stairs. Up the stairs, he could feel an overwhelming power, the same power he could sense was giving him the drive to go on. It gave off alluring warmth, but also cold darkness that sent a chill up his spine. In his head, pictures came to mind, hundreds, thousands, he wasn’t sure. The passed by like whispers in the wind. Glimpses, flashes, moments of sever and great emotion. He could feel them all pressing down on him, but he wouldn’t let it stop him, he continued onward, giving no heed to the otherworldly thoughts in his head. One thing he could be sure of, up ahead, up those stairs at the end of that path, waited something of great power, and he was going to find out what.

Oh man, Rhiko... I know I said this on Skype. But It bears repeating. This is probably the best chapter yet, I loved every second of it. I also loved the explanation given by Leon in the beginning. I was itching to know what was happening in the real world and exactly how much time has passed. Great plot device on that!
Secondly, Noelle's portion was absolutely breathtaking. I loved your choice of music, it fit her battle perfectly. Especially Rin' (gragghhh, I love that band to death, very disappointed that they've disbanded :[ wink but that was amazing, and the vocals in Turii accompanied the section part amazingly. O_O<3 Her final attack is so awesome, I think you should choreograph all our battles. Seriously.
Mathy and Mac. I loved Mathy's parts, especially when he's making a combat and he's moving with such fluidity and grace. Awesome depiction of Quetzacoatl by the way. And I'm so glad that Mac got a part of his sanity back. I still would've loved to have Jenny smack some sense into him though. But I thought it was really endearing the way you wrote it out. Great job!
I love how you portrayed Aimmeh, to me it seemed like you got her personality dot on for the most part. Her light-heartedness despite everything and it was so fresh. I loved it. The battle between Marluxia and Amy/Kirsten was complete awesome. Especially when Kirsten fills the place with water. Loved "Red Fraction" accompanying as the battle theme. I thought it was really fitting. I also liked how you paid attention to little details such as Sora having absolutely no clue as to who Marluxia was. ^^ And I'm so glad Sora entered when he did, I would hate to see either Aimmeh or Kirsten go D:
Can't wait to see what happens to Kyle! Keep up the great work!
[Oh jeezeee, I feel like this could have been a whole essay =n= Sorry, got carried away *gets shot*]

The tension is deffinatlly building! As more and more canons show up you can feel the pressure mounting, and I find myself biting at the bit over what awaits them at the end of the roads they're all seeming to travel along.
I wonder how the struggles of the Earthlings reflect upon the minds and hearts of the original canons. Are they proud? Concerned or impressed? I've always wondered what.
The amount that happens in this fic shines almost more then the original rp- and thats saying somethign since it's written by one person, but it goes to show just how closely you're paying attention to each and every person. That in itself is both flattering and humbling.
One day your works will be reconized world wide Rhiko, and I want to be there when you sell your first record breaking novel.^_-
