~A Summer Moment~ 1) What's the main focus? The main focus of this picture is the Springer Spaniel.
2) Where did you take the photo? I took this photo in my yard in the summer-time, right after my dog got her yearly haircut.
3) What message you want to convey via the picture? There really isn't a specific message I'm trying to send; I just like the feeling that looking at this picture gives me. My dog is a highly energetic breed, and just seeing her calm, relaxed, and not focusing on anything in particular gives me a sense of serenity and tranquility. And the grass just brings me straight to that wondrous mindset of a gorgeous summer day.
4) Why did you take the picture that way? I really didn't take the picture in any certain way; I happened to be in the right place at the right time. But I kept it because of the phenomenal feeling I get from it. The grass is a beautiful color and I think that it, with the fluffs of grain, complements my dog's complexion very well. Plus, the light hits her just right to give her that uncanny shimmer and radiance.
5) How did your edition of the photo contributed to the end product? The only thing I did to change this photograph from the original was that I cropped it; the original was of my dog in the center with grass on both sides of her, but I decided that the grass on the right side was unneeded and distracting from both the focal point and the feeling.

Darklingshift Submission #1 Click for larger view Early 2009, in Washington DC, I was touring through the Arlington Cemetery. While walking to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, I turned around to snap this shot of the many graves strewn across the grounds. Not edited in any way, the light on snow gives the illusion of black/white, and focuses on the rows of graves. It shows the brittleness of death, the silence that accompanies it, and the way that it all ends the same - tombstone after tombstone.

DarklingShift Submission #2 Click for larger view. Washington DC, touring Arlington Cemetery. I don't quite remember were exactly the fountain is from inside the cemetery. I took the picture at an angle to show the full length of the fountain (hurt my wrist doing so XP). The main thought is basically that you can always look at things in a differently, and when you do, interesting things sometimes come up. Not edited in any way.

DarklingShift Submission #3 click for larger view. Taken in El Dorade nature reserve, I was hiking and saw this tree. The canopy spreads out at least 10 feet across to each side, and the branches reach down to touch the ground, creating a surrounding view of the tree. The main focus of it is the way that it droops to the ground, and how the trunk of the tree is strong enough to support all of the other branches. I tried to convey how sometimes the strong have to hold everything else up, and how their grasp can be wide and effect everything around it. Not edited in any way.

DarklingShift Submission #4 Click for larger view. Taken in El Dorado nature reserve. The main focus is how bright and busy the flowers are - how they look like the spread across the entire view, and how they reach upwards. Not edited in any way, I tried to convey how happy and uplifting the scene looked to me. The typical "field of flowers" moment, I snapped it thinking about how it would feel to run through it. biggrin well, that's the last one. biggrin
