I want to try out the degree/job thing, whether someone with a degree will start off higher on the career ladder

Har, looks like a Sim with a degree starts off higher on the career ladder for ANY job they choose! Jaz got a degree in Philosophy after switching from Economics, and her lifetime aspiration is to get to the top of the medical career (completely unrelated to her degree), yet any job I looked at started with a better position and higher pay than without a degree! She's currently a medium in the Paranormal Career, but only because it pays the most out of the ones we looked at, and we'll switch later. She's trying to avoid the repo-man, and I know I can use the money cheat (which I did to furnish her party/disco house!) but I like the challenge! In college, she often went to the coffee house to work for some extra Simoleons!

i'm not tempted to buy sims university(she says) but i wouldn't mind just being able to load it up so i could download items that only work with that add on blaugh
i assume i could still use the normal sims 2 disk to play the game after that, or maybe not confused i'm not sure.
i think that probably wouldn't work actually, i'm rambling here, it's late, can you tell??

What don't you like about the university idea? The only downside for me, is the time it takes to load when I choose to play the university part after getting into one of the towns. I'm just impatient, though.

I love the 'college rock' on the radio!! And it's interesting doing things like streaking around the dorms, or talking with the school mascot, and doing school cheers, and doing your assignments and writing your term paper to boost your grade.

My daughter has loaded everything she possibly can load on her own computer ... and she has both Sims 2 loaded as well. For my birthday she bought be the Sims 2 but I had her take it back unopened and exchange it for University (for herself) when it came out, telling her I would just use her Sims2 original disc, since she would not need it once university was installed... sadly, the last time my sims game stopped loading (probably my fault, too many DLs - talking over 30,000 DL files) I just got fed up.... tired of uninstalling, reinstalling, trying to figure out what to keep and what to throw out... I hardly deserve to use a screen name like SIMlizzy wink

I recently tried my first sims2 downloads, but some of them aren't showing.. like the goth dresses for example. some dresses are showing up as custom, but don't look custom, and one looks completley invisible, but I don't know which ones they are! how do I go about picking and choosing which have shown up and which haven't, and which are what so I can remove them again?

EDIT: a lot of my downloads that aren't showing up are walls. But the sims2 walls and floors wind up being executables that you double click to install them, and I don't know where those go after that, so I'm not sure even how to see which are there, or remove them!

hmm, some of the clothes might have needed the original mesh for them to work, i have garments that don't work decause i don't have the mesh.
when you download floors and walls does the sims custom content installer come up? it's a slightly different installation process, when you open the file a little icon like a blue chap popping out of a box shows, double click on that and the custom content window will(should) appear, instead of extracting like you do with everything else.
hope this is of some help!

oh, have you downloaded the CEP thing to enable recolours to show up? i can't remember where i downloaded it from, but the big download sites tend to link to it, either the sims resource or mod the sims 2 should have it

oh nooo, i did something silly today sad i found that i could delete the stuff that didn't turn out so well from my custom content, well so i thought, the option was...do you want to delete this item permanently from your computer? hell yes, i thought, that hair is horrible! so i clicked yes...and it deleted ALL the custom hair that i'd downloaded crying
i'm now scared to go and look in Veronaville incase i find a bald fawN and Bippy coming after me gonk

Yes, I had the pop-up installer for all of them, but not all of them showed up in the game. I only have TWO custom walls, and I know I downloaded and installed a lot!

And I downloaded that package whatever thingie from the bigger sites that said I'd need it in order to have objects show up in the game. Although I can't remember whether or not I actually downloaded any objects for sims2 yet (I downloaded a bunch, only to discover later they were for sims1, so I stashed them in a folder for now) but no new objects are showing up yet that I recall. Oh no wait, I lie, I got the shop online computer and the abduct every time telescope. Those are there!

And jelly, I'm so sorry to hear about the hair deletion incident! Maybe now that I know what things look like in the game, I should just go ahead and delete everything and only redownload when I know I like... that's a lot of skins to go through again though! And I don't know where to find the floors/walls now that are installed. Or is there an easy way to know what's what?

Ooh, what to do... I was planning on getting Sims 2 next week when/if I get my new computer, but then I saw this:

Quote:
We've announced that we will be releasing The Sims 2 Holiday Edition of The Sims 2. We'll also be releasing The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack featuring just the bonus items for all of you here who already own The Sims 2.

Sooo I can either get the game now and buy the expansion later, or I can wait a month and save money by getting the Holiday Edition ninja

It sounds like the holiday stuff is an expansion like university that only works if you already have Sims 2, so you'd have to buy them both separately, and you'd need the original Sims 2 for sure. Or am I misunderstanding?

From what I understand there are two versions of the holiday pack, one is an expansion (like university and nightlife) and one is a limited edition release that includes both the original game + the expansion. I could be wrong though confused But I don't think I'll be able to wait a whole month anyway, so I'll just get the game now and the expansion later xd

only just noticed this reply! redface
i'm not sure what it is that doesn't appeal, it may be because i really don't play the game properly, i hardly ever create families, i did try playing the Broke family but i just can't cope with it!
ooh, i have a question for you fawN, i play on Veronaville mainly, because i love the way it looks, but where are the clothes shops there? i wasn't paying attention when i made a few of the people that live there, and i forget to pick clothes for them other than the everyday outfit, so they're stuck with the default items(yuk)
and i can't find anywhere to buy them different clothes crying
