|D Chaos and Grace. Oh yessssss
Our band Director is writing and arranging all of the music. and it sounds soooo awesome. Oh my god. He wrote this fugue part that is amazing. And that's just the opener. THe first part of it is a wind ensemble. : D I get to be in it since I'm second chair. Woop! and then it get's all crazy and shizz. We're also doing the melody from Amazing Grace in the third part. I love playing through it.
Last year we did On the Waterfront and got our asses kicked when we went to BOA Arlington. :/ (I'm from Texas). SOme other band did a different arrangment so ours sounded like crap. The trumpets got off and everything fell apart. It was sad because the arrangment we had so was angry and powerful.

I had to specifically schmooze up to my band director and ask him what he was mulling over for the coming season, and I was less than pleased to hear that it was another rock show. Last season, we did Music of the Doors, and we got icky scores. The year before that, our headliner song was Mr. Roboto by Styx. Icky scores as well. For next season, he's thinking of doing The Beatles. With such a large collection of songs to choose from, it could all come down to song choice that helps us take home a trophy. Our school is rather poor, and we faced a huge budget crunch in the spring. The first thing that the school board saved, as the BD secretly informed me, was the marching band. They said that we instill a feeling of hope and fun at football games that the players simply can't bring to the field. Or something mushy to that effect. I'm a percussionist, in the pit, so it's arguable that I have to work harder on my pieces than the rest of the sections. With twice the practices in a week, we have to make our sectional performance very powerful, even if the music choice is less than desirable for an overall effect.

Beyond. Bascially, we are using space as a metaphor for finding yourself. Idk if you've heard of him, but Michael Grey is our artistic director. It's going to be crazy cool, but sold out. You should check out some of our past shows like Watermark, Incarnata. Go to youtube and search Wando High marching band.
We're going to Grand Nats.

our theme was supposed to be greek gods and creatures, but some other highschool took the score and everything right before us... so our theme is basically an amusement park thing ><

'The Machine'. it's supposed to be techno-ish. It sounds good, but we think it'll be a bit hard to adapt to

Ours this year is titled "Western Skies". Horay... >_< Gahd, ever since we got a new band director, all our shows are stupid. Marching band is hardly fun anymore... My first year however was when we had our old director. That year our show was "King Kong" and that was my absolute favorite year.

We're doing an international sort of theme this year. I don't know what the title actually is yet, though. Finale from New World Symphony, Rainfall, Can-Can, Pictures at an Exhibition/Russian Christmas music/New World theme
The last two years in a row we did rock shows, so this is a nice break.
Nothing can top my freshman year's show, though -- "American Reflections" America (from the Jazz Singer), Hoe-Down (from Rodeo... we got to all yell "BEEF" at the end of it), That's a Plenty (a really fun jazz piece), and then Amazing Grace/When Johnny Comes Marching Home. We had this huge flag that we ran backward over the band, except if the wind wasn't just right, it wouldn't fly, and it would just sort of drag over us. That mostly just happened at rehearsals, but once a trombone's slide got caught on the flag and went sailing through the air toward a Sousaphone... good times.
