Fiolxion Hey....I got a roleplay idea but not sure how I want to go about it. You see I am thinking of a Castle Roleplay where everyone is trapped inside a desolate castle full of hostile creatures that want nothing more than to destroy you. The goal is to kill the monsters and find a way out of the castle before the Lich Lord steals everyone's souls. There is no teleporting out of the castle and no resurrections......so if your character dies. They die but you could always make a new character. My mind is drawing blanks beyond that.
First thing you should do is set up a thread and reserve the first few posts.
Now I'm a little confused. Are you looking for advice on how to set up the kill system?

Well the kill system and trying to debate whether or not the main monsters of the roleplay should be non-playable or played by people.....

Now I'm a little confused. Are you looking for advice on how to set up the kill system? Well, there's a couple ways you can go about determining kills. One is to use a dice-based system like in many table-top RPGs. I can tell you right now that that method isn't very popular with the majority of roleplayers though. Another is to have players figure it out beforehand with your approval, and let them play it out accordingly. I recommend this one because it allows you to police god-moders as well as promote cooperation in the roleplay, which usually makes it more fun. You could also let players just decide on their own without having to run it by you first. If you go with that, any god-moders are going to have fun never ever losing.
I think the monsters will work better if you make them EPCs (Every Player Characters). That way, the battles become more unpredictable and fun. You could take the role of the Dungeon-master and step out of your character's shoes for a moment to throw a new wave of trouble at everybody, but then allow everyone to control the monsters. You can speed up battles that way and not everyone has to wait on one person to respond to a single action.
Does that help?
Edit: Boss-type monsters can be played by people. Minor monsters would be EPCs.

I have to agree on the dice being too complicated....

I think I'll go with this. ^.^

DEFINITELY!

This can work too!

Isn't that what you said earlier?
At any rate. Yes. It helped a great deal!

This sounds a lot like an RP I joined way back in the day, along with one I had in mind at one point, only the castle was a mansion and it was inhabited by a very angry spirit (my version) Although I'm not very big on these kinds of RPs, they're still fun nonetheless. I really should get to work on that one...
