Leilani happily seated herself in the chair that he'd pulled out for her, smiling up at him. She liked this date thing, especially with Aiden, her knight.
"My diamond?" she asked curiously. "Uh, sure."

He bowed then took the stone. "I will be back. Shouldn't take me no longer then ten minutes, and thats not counting getting lost time." He walked off to find a jewelry store.
He found it after about three minutes of walking, humans here gave him weird looks and he was even given five bucks to take a picture with a little girl.
He had to make a deal with the male at the jewelry store because he didn't have money to get what he wanted done, done.
He walked back a little over an hour later and sighed. "I'm sorry, that took longer then I thought, I got lost." He lied, a little.

Leilani waited the ten minutes, ordering a drink but sending their waitress away when she'd asked if she wanted to order anything. Sighing, she did so a couple more times, wondering if she shouldn't just pay her tab and leave. She was taking up a table, and she had no idea when Aiden was coming back.
Is he coming back at all? a sneaky inner voice whispered. Maybe he's forgotten about you. Maybe he had a date with someone else. Actually shaking her head to clear that thought, Leilani told herself again that, even though she hadn't known the other fairy for that long, she didn't think he would do something like that.
But then, you didn't think he'd let you sit and wait this long, did you? She couldn't argue that. Stupid Voice of Reason. Perhaps that was why she was so overjoyed when he finally returned, her ears and wings perking up a little. And then...so devastated when she realized that he was lying to her. But she put on a happy face. She wanted to be happy.
"It's alright," she said with a smile. "I've only drank my weight in tea. I've had a chance to look over the menu," understatement, "so whenever you're ready we can order."

Aiden fell quiet and he fought back the urge to ask her way the fake smile. He sat down, saying nothing, and watched as a waiter with blond hair came and asked their order in a perky voice, working her tip to her older male customers for sure. It wasn't in Aiden's nature to eye her over. "Your choice, love." His words to her made her blush a little then she turned to Leilani and asked her order in that same perky voice.
Aiden looked around at all the normal people here, they were all so happy. His eyes fell on a couple that were kissing by the diner, by a small closed bakery. His ears fell back as she watched them then he turned back to Leilani, still not really looking at her, just around her.

He is awefully smooth, isn't he? the nagging voice spoke again as she watched the waitress blush prettily. He didn't have a case of--what was it called? Elevator eyes?--but the tone was smooth as butter. But she cranked her smile up a few watts and placed her order, as well as asking for a refill.
"I've heard that time passes slowly when you're bored," she said as the waitress left, teasing, "but that was a long ten minutes."

Aiden found no words for much of anything she said. He only smiled, devilishly, like he was hiding something. "If you didn't want to wait then why did you? I'm sure you had a few second guesses while you sat here...." He sat back against the chair and watched the people interact. He wasn't mad at her, but her fake smile got on his nerve. "If you're bothered by something don't hide it behind those creepy smiles." He shot her a glace from the corner of his eye and smiled.

Leilani's 'creepy smile' dropped immediately into a hurt look, before quickly moving to a frown. She was only trying not to worry him, after all.
"Maybe I shouldn't have waited, then," she huffed, crossing her arms and looking away. "After all, most dates would consider it rude to leave someone sitting, waiting for them for over an hour, not to mention say nasty things when they got back."

Aiden sighed and put a box onto the table. "I don't feel right arguing with you over something so silly then seeing you after I give you what held me up." He slide the small black box to her and got up. "I must excuse myself." he bowed formally then walked away.
He saw the waitress walking toward the table with their trays then looked at Aiden, continuing to the table anyway.
Aiden walked home thinking of what he went through to get her that ring. He had to promise the rest of the diamond to him as payment. The ring was cut into a fine band that had flowers with the mixed metals of silver and gold. The diamonds carefully placed in the center of each flower. It was crafted with care, Aiden had watched him do it instead of leaving.
When Aiden got to the main gate he flew to the top of the mountains by his home, where he would have taken Leilani but she seemed to be fed up with him. He didn't know much about dates...or girls. He now knew why humans had so many problems.

Leilani sighed as he walked off, feeling like she'd felt the last two times he'd walked off. She looked at the box, a couple of times, but she finished her meal and paid for both of them, the waitress giving her a pitying look on the way out as she pocketed the box.
It weighed heavily on her mind as she went home. He'd been out getting her something? Making something? What could it be? She let herself wonder until she got back to her cozy, but empty home. And then she settled in her bed first, making sure the pillows were arranged neatly and the covers were just the way she wanted them. By then, the gems sparkled in the moonlight, making the ring glimmer when she finally opened the box.
Tears sparkled in her eyes much as the diamonds in the ring then, and she sighed heavily as she slipped it on. It was a sigh of regret. He'd loved her enough to make her something beautiful, but not enough to understand? She didn't understand much about dates, or men. Perhaps this was why humans had so many problems.

Aiden stayed outside for hours on top of the hill. When Val found him she said something about a violin and some girl, his eyes were too teary to see her and his ears echoed with the sounds of his own thoughts racing. She told him he needed sleep but he just left to Leilani's house.
He dared not enter. Instead, he sat down below the tree and watched as he had told himself to do as Leilani's knight. Slowly he had ended up sitting on the ground, and by day break he was sleeping on the ground.

After a largely restless night, Leilani rose with the thought that maybe she should be the one to find him this time. Though she still had a few reservations, she glanced down at the ring on her finger. What she knew was that he was her knight, and anyone who had lovingly had crafted something just for her...And perhaps she hadn't been entirely honest with him. But how could she tell him, her knight, that she'd been told he was a womanizer? It just seemed so...not Aiden. She sighed. She would be the one to bed this time.
Relationships were complicated. Sighing again, she slowly rose, readying for the day. How would she approach it? Would all of the people she'd heard about be there? What would they say about it? Would they be mad that she'd made him sad? She fretted, glancing on the wall at various mirrors strewn about to check her hair and outfit. Adjusting the pin and retrieving her courage, she set out...
...only to find him at her feet. Literally.
"Oh, Aiden," she breathed, kneeling beside him, "have you been here all night?" Her heart lurched in her chest painfully as she brushed a stray tendril of hair out of his face.
"Aiden," she said, a little louder, though still slightly softer than her speaking voice, "I would've let you in. You don't have to stay out here."

He had only thought her voice was a dream till he opened his eyes and yawned a little. "I'm not doing much protecting from inside." He hands reached up and touched her cheek, he wanted to kiss her but he was still in a sleepy daze. He rubbed his eyes then stood up. "I'm gonna go take a bath..." He said flatly then went to the small spring he had seen near here on his way last night. "I'm glad to see you like the ring." He said softly as he walked, the ring stuck out from the rest of her. The silver shown brightly in he early morning sun.
When he got to the spring he stripped, folding his clothes and tucked Leilani's handkerchief in the middle of all the clothes. It still lingered of her smell. He got into the spring and soon fell back asleep in there. He knew he had to wake up sooner of later but he had only fallen asleep maybe a half an hour before Leilani found him.

Leilani watched as he walked off, not even giving her a chance to talk to him. Nothing. Just...left here there. Again!
"I love it," she said quietly, watching him walk off, trying not to feel hurt. He hadn't stormed off this time, and he looked like he were falling asleep, but she still didn't understand why he hadn't given her a chance to say anything. Not after how they'd parted ways the night before.
"I was coming to apologize!" she yelled after him. Fine, she'd wait. Again. Huffing a little, she flitted back up to the treehouse.

Aiden woke up later at the feeling he was drowning. He coughed up water and proceeded with his bath. He hopped up and pulled on his clothes as fast as he could.
He ran then leap up behind Leilani, wrapping his arms around her. "Have you ever had the feeling that everything in the world was right...just by hearing someone's voice?" His voice was a whisper. He held her softly, she could break his grasp if he wanted to. "Or that a kiss could be sweeter then honey?" His answers didn't need answers. "Or maybe that your dreams are secret desires you wish will come true? Maybe that those three words.." He whispered 'I love you' as he paused for a moment. "Aren't enough to explain how you really feel about someone?" He moved his hands a bit lower, to her stomach. He smiled as he took in a deep breath. "I have never had these thoughts till I met you."

Leilani jumped and squeaked when Aiden first wrapped his arms around her--she'd been lost in thought and hadn't heard him coming. Soon, however, with sweet words in her ear, she melted into his arms. His grip wasn't a strong one--at least, not the one with his arms--but she wouldn't have pulled away for the world.
"Oh, Aiden," she breathed, turning to face him, resting a hand on his face. Just say it. Tell him... Though the words were on the tip of her tongue, Leilani couldn't say them.
"I've had those feelings before," she murmured. "But only after I met you."
