"That is the hope I have, yes," Kay said as he finished his few pancakes. That was enough. Hilda would kill him if he didn't have room for dinner back home too.

"Are you sure you're full?" Swallowing a big bite, Evan grinned over his still-large stack.
"Maybe he doesn't like sweets for dinner?" mumbled Laial around a mouthful.

"Laial. Please show your father some respect. Dinner was quite good, and I don't see you pushing your plate away," Kay scolded, "but, unfortunately, I will need to have dinner at home also."

Evan blushed rather warmly beneath his tanned cheeks, laughing sheepishly. "Oh, er -- I should have figured. I did kinda bulldoze you into eatin' with us...."
Laial's mouth gaped open, then shut, and then he glared at Kay, pride offended.

Kay ignored the glare. Children didn't like learning moral lessons, and he really didn't care.
"I could have said no. I wanted to have...first-dinner with you. If I had a choice, I would simply eat more here."

Recovering a little, Evan's smile returned, gentle and sheepish. "Thanks. You flatter me... I appreciate it. You're welcome here whenever you want... it gets a little lonely, just me and Laial and Heiko."

"It gets lonely in my home too, even with...everyone there," Kay said with a little smile, "Now, I think I'll have to excuse myself. Laial has my number, when he's ready for classes. Goodbye, and thank you for dinner. It was delicious." He paused but a moment, waiting to see if Evan would stand to bid him goodbye or not.

As expected, with the hospitality and manners drummed into his head from youth, Evan sprang up, barking his shin on the table leg, but smiling anyway. "You're very welcome, Kay... I hope you'll come and visit us again sometime... I'll see you out, if you like," and he found himself rather sad to see him leaving.
"Thanks for eating with us," mumbled Laial, frowning a little and pushing the sodden pancake around on his plate. "And for the snack earlier too... and the classes."

"You're welcome, Laial, and no, I can see myself out quite well," Kay said, giving a little bow and a smile, "Enjoy the rest of your dinner." And then he left.
