Lost Levels was the Japanese Super Mario 2, and never even came out officially in the U.S. until Super Mario All-Stars for Super Nes; even the Japanese version, IIRC, had dumbed-down Lost Levels. (Of course, the Japanese version also called it SMB2, and had Doki Doki Panic - what became SMB2 in the US and Europe).
I've been getting into Japanese fangame sh'mups as late. There's something excessively fun about playing as a flying girl with a magical machinegun, blowing up all sorts of random stuff while dodging hundreds of bullets at once.

PhantomPhoenix0 Not me. Im a proud Nintendo Junkie. Playstation is ok. XBOX CAN BURN!!!! I don't arbitrarily knock the X-Box. I mean, it has Jet Set Radio Future, and Panzer Dragoon Orta. And Psychonauts without hideous load times. That said, I like the Gamecube overall the most (Metroid, Mario, and SSBM), with the PS2 a close second (DISGAEA. JAK. RATCHET.).

I'm getting Dragon Warrior VIII Just for the playable demo of Final Fantasy XII
and in reference to the X-Box 360: I really don't see anything that interests me too much at the moment. and the fact that the sombitch costs out the a** at the moment becuase they have the newest system out on the market right before Christmas dosen't make it any more appealing.

Why call it the XBOX 360? Ego maniacs. My friends and I call it the "NextBOX". Anyways, I'm just really happy playing Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. That game ownzors. Why can't more RPG's be like that? I wonder...
I'm actually looking at buying mehself a DS for the sequel.

I love the battle system. Turn-based, but it's all about the timing. Attack commands can be made at a certain animation frame to increase damage, and Defense commands can be made to decrease damage, or completely dodge the attack, which means that, if you're good enough, you'll rarely get hit.

Kenji_Salk I figured I would take this opportunity to vent my frustration at fanboys of Nintendo, and the company itself. It's more than about just video games, it's about criticizing how a company runs it's business, and the culture surrounding the fanbase. Please don't chime in with "wrong forum" and the like, seeing as it isn't just about the fact that it's a video game company. If you do, I will just take it as a passive-aggressive way of trying to dismiss my point without addressing it. Company: They make rehashes of their same tired franchises with little new to enjoy for those who aren't "hardcore fans", they haven't made a new character/franchise in forever (sans Pikmin, though I could care less), and they constantly put out poorly designed consoles that focus on "retro gaming" rather than anything state of the art. Their controllers are uncomfortable and cheaply made, their third party support hasn't been passable since the SNES, and they frequently repackage the same tired products over and over as a filler for an actual new item to market against their competiton. Overall, they pretty much fail as a company seeing as they consistently neglect what the industry and the consumer demands, and their sales reflect that. The Gameboy is the main thing keeping them afloat, and I doubt that will last forever since they will eventually run out of ways to repackage it and sell it for exorbitant prices. On top of that, their "image" they keep trying to keep up about being "innovative" is just plain delusional and wrong. If they are innovative at anything, it's marketing, because somehow everyone is still buying their crap. While I do enjoy the occasional Metroid or Yoshi game, I refuse to: pay the several hundred dollar price mark for their future consoles just to play the 5-6 decent first party games (ie. rehash Zelda, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc.), or the occassional third-party game that's on all the other consoles, or buy their crappy retro shirts and accessories just to prove I'm "old skool" (thereby proving I was a "gamer" before it was cool), or generally encourage Nintendo that they can keep running their business the way they do. They need to get with the damn times and start producing quality stuff, with variety and depth or they can dry up and die with the dinosaurs (who are way more pleasant to be around). On fanboys/girls: Single-handedly the most annoying sub-culture in the video game realm, and the most difficult to discuss things with. They typically will not admit big N's faults, and blindly chirp the mantra "omg N is best. tey old skool", while getting uber defensive any time the idea of them needing to change some things is mentioned. Commonly associated with the self-riteous "retro gamer", they cling to past successes that are no indication of the companies current standpoint in the industry. Purchase of Nintendo merchandise provides emotional reinforcement and gives them the aura that they are better than others because "they love Nintendo, and they are in it for the games". Truly the industry's greatest marketing whores, they pay full price for next-gen rehashes of franchises that have been around since the late 80's, sporting little difference in gameplay or story. If it weren't for the fact that most N fans out there are aggressive, irrational, and impossible to talk to without offending them, it wouldn't be as big of a deal. But that, coupled with the holier-than-thou attitude makes them damn near intolerable. Well if they needed to change, then they would change, but people keep buyin' their stuff, and so they don't change a damn thing. The same s**t could be said of Halo, Sony or Sega back in the day, but they don't. Why? 'Cause thats what appeals to that type of gamer. To me, games are like pieces of art, they're subjective to the taste of the person playing it, and they may not like a particular way they do things or make a game. Another way games are like art is that the creators, *unless your company name happens to be EA* don't give a flying ******** what you think of their s**t, nor should they. They make the game to make them happy and to make it into the mold they had in their mind. Some just happen to get lucky and make millions off of it. So please, if you don't like a game company's way of doing crap that much, do the one thing thats more powerful than writing a full page (or two) rant on the subject: Dont buy the game, and get the people that matter to it most not to buy it, either. Remember, Nintendo is originally a very Japanese company, and they're work ethic is such. They stick to what works, they stick to tradition, and they're gonna keep sticking to it until they can do it no more.
