Though the quiet was interrupted momentarily by the sound of an opening door, and the clicking of heels.
A familiar figure made her way into the cafe, though this time, the vivacious young woman looked exhausted and a little mussed up. Her make up was a little smudged, most likely from partying or perhaps crying... bu the first appeared more logical.
She was alone, her gaggle of followers leaving her side long ago. "Excuse me... Are you guys still open? I just... need soemthing to drink..." She sighed, rubbing her bridge of her nose slightly in pain, probably from too much to drink, though she hardly seemed drunk.

Alex looked up from his mopping and nearly stepped back into his bucket. The voice he heard pose the question was nothing like the snarky, demanding one he had heard earlier. She certainly didn't have the same air to her at all, but it wouldn't mean he'd go easy on her.
"Actually, we're closing. You have maybe five minutes if you order something from the cooler. Machines have been cleaned for the night."
Now that he was standing on his own instead of being hidden by the counter, Alex gave a rather striking figure. He was tall and lean from his meager diet and constant running around the city. His hair was long and needed a trim, and he looked very tired. The darkness under his eyes was accentuated by the dim light inside the cafe, along with his need to shave a bit. How he needed sleep for once...

"Um...Whatever you have thats bubbly will be fine..." She replied,looking exhuasted herself. She glanced up, realizing it was the same man who served her earlier and furrowed her brow. Despite how attractive he was in his own way, she could not just so easily forgive his service earlier.
Though she made it seem as no consequence to herself as she layed a few coins on the counter, enough for one drink as a strange but catchy noise came from her bag. She sighed, and proceeded to dig through the large satchel until she locate her phone.
"Hello?" She spat mostly out of fluster. "...I told her I was going out. .... No I didnt- Ah...." She blinked blankly, looking down at the ground. "Oh?" Her eyebrows raised and a slight smile grew. "Is he home? I can be there in- Oh..." Her face fell suddenly as she turned and slowly made her way to a near by table, sinking down into the chair. "Y-yes...I'm fine. Thats fine. He's busy...I understand...." She bit her lip, and shook her head, suddenly seeming very sad.
"...No. Tell her no I wont then. I'll be home at bloody 4 am if I want! ...I dont care.... ...No. Goodbye Marie." She spat at the phone before ending her call violently, slamming the phone on the table loudly. "Dammit..." She cursed under her break, her head in her hands as she sighed deeply.
Though that sigh turned into a quiet shaking... Then soft sobs...
Sitting there mostly alone in a little cafe in the middle of veratia, Jessica Darling was crying... and she didnt care.

Alex nodded once more to the cooler and continued on with his mopping.
She could get it herself just fine, especially if she insisted on coming in last-minute before closing time. Someone else could tend to her as he continued his maintenance work.
Not that his job was so interesting, but when he cleaned the cafe, his mind shut out everything else. It was a system of mechanical movements that got all his final work done, and if he just let himself go into his own mind, more often than not Alex would suddenly find himself done with his tasks. And so, when Jessica began crying, he hadn't noticed.
That is, he hadn't until he was sweeping around her table and almost literally under her nose. Her tears hitting the tabletop and her miserable sniffling brought his eyes to her face, and made his heart skip a beat.
Though there were times when Alex couldn't care less, there did rest a knight in shining armor within his heart. A lazy knight, but it did count in some way.
"Hey," he said softly. "You... alright? You safe or are you hurt?"

Jes jumped slightly, forgetting about the waiter still present. She quickly wiped at her eyes, and bit her lip to keep herself from sobbing. Once she calmed herself down quickly, she just shrugged. "I'm...I'm fine..." She whispered softly,still frantically trying to wipe away the tears, though found it fruitless since each tear she wiped away was replaced almsot immediately by new ones.
"I suppose you could say I'm hurt...though I doubt you meant it the way I do..." She chuckled lightly, her voice barely audible as she reached up and removed the clip that was messily keeping her blond hair pulled back, letting it fall delicately around her face as she attempted once more to hide her tears.
"I'm fine... I'm just-...perfect." And the tears started up again, she was angry with herself for letting this stranger see her cry, but at the same time she couldn't care less.

So it was an emotional hurt. Alex could live with that. It was kind of relieving, actually, to know that he didn't have to call the cops to pick up some rich girl from their premises.
Alex straightened himself up and shrugged.
"Alright. As long as you can get home. We're locking up soon."
It was then that he noticed she didn't even have her drink. With no purchase made, she'd no reason to stay there, and it was his job to clear people like her out...
"Look," he said, his voice lowered along with his head slightly. "I'm not trying to kick you out. But it is closing time, and you do have to leave soon. Take some napkins, get a drink or something."

Her head shot up to look at him, eyes wide and slightly terrified for a moment before she furrowed her brow and looked away. "Ah...I haven't any place to go though..." She mumbled this last bit to herself but stood up abruptly. "I'm...sorry...Just keep the money on the counter... I dot think i need the drink..." her insides were knotted up terribly as she fought the urge to cry. Which she won really, chocking back her tears again, telling herself "I promised myself no more crying..."
She made her way towards the door, racking her brain as to where she could go. She couldn't go home...no it was a matter of pride yes, principal perhaps, but more than anything she just wanted to avoid the one place she felt so alone and vulnerable.

The little chime on the clock rang out eleven, and with that, Alex was done with his shift. No longer working and so, no harm in acting in a rather non-professional way.
"The hell? What do you mean you have no place to go? Look at you! I could buy a new apartment with those shoes alone!"
Alex turned his back on her before she could say anything to fetch his coat and to take care of his last duty of clocking out. He was back in a flash.
Alex seemed rather aloof about the whole thing, just from the way he looked her up and down. He had so many words for what kind of girl she seemed to be, but all of them would earn him wither a slap on the face or a swift kick in the pants. Neither was worth the risk.
He stuck out his chin at her. "So come on, what's the deal?"

The NERVE! She was suddenly infuriated as the sadness was replaced by rage and her old attitude.
"First of all...you're chivalry astounds me..." She spat, her words dripped with sarcasm. "Secondly, where the hell do you get off judging me? You dont even know me! And you know what-" It was too late. Her button had been pushed too hard. SHe was pissed.
"The damned shoes! Alright?! You're judging me on my shoes right!? Well TAKE EM!" She yanked her heels off throwing them on the ground violently.
"I can't go home for reasons that are none of your business! I'd rather DIE out there on the streets alone, than to be there, let alone here explaining myself to the likes of you!" Her eyes watered up again but she said nothing more as she turned on her bare heel and stormed out of the cafe, not sure what she was doing really or where she was going, she was just too angry and full of adrenaline to stop now.

So, she was a class-A spoiled brat. Suddenly everything made sense to him. Probably family troubles at home, so she made up for the insecurity there by making her outer appearance sexy and desirable. The shoes on the floor were definitely designer, but he didn't really care about them.
Alex calmly stepped out of the cafe and watched her storm down the street in bare feet. She could step on broken glass, he thought.
"Hey! You want to die on the streets? Walking home alone at night's a one-way ticket for that."
Alex remained standing nonchalantly by the door of the cafe, though after a few more moments of her walking, he decided to start taking a few slow steps in her direction.

It was rather chilly though Jes paid it no mind. She was just angry at everyone at the moment. At the rude waiter, the issues at home and promises that were broken, herself even...
She just wanted to get away from it all and not face any of it though she knew very well that was pointless. She accepted this by simply turning around, her face stern and calm, her icy blue eyes seeming dark and deep as she leveled off with him. "Listen, I'm sorry if you dont approve of me or my lifestyle, I'm sorry you think you're better than me, and you just may be right there. But Theres just one thing I want to make clear. Jessica Darling doesn't cry. What you saw back there....was nothing. You saw nothing and will say nothing of it alright?" She wavered in her stance only momentarily because of the cold but still kept her eyes and face steady.

"Oh, so I'm better than you all of a sudden?" he asked with no effort to hide his astonishment. "I thought I should be honored that you would be even talking to the 'likes of me', let alone chucking designer shoes at me."
Alex stood tall and still as he stared her down. She could be angry for her own reasons, but personal attacks would earn counterattacks. Alex operated on simple terms, but this was not to say he was an a**. Alex could be the most compassionate person in the city, if given the right respect.
"But whatever. Go off into your night of denial, but don't get killed. But I'll offer this now so you can't possibly create more drama later: do you want me to walk you home or wherever the hell it is you're going?"
With that asked, he could at least have a good conscience if she did get attacked or something.

Instead of tgelling him to go burn in hell, Jes swallowed her pride.
She was a bit terrified to be on the streets this alte anlone anyhow, so his company, no matter how infuriating, wouild be welcome.
"...Fine...." She stormed past him, hugging her arms as she made her way back towards the cafe's entrance to grab her shoes. If she was going to walk home or somewhere, she'd at least want to save her feet from the freezing ground.
"I think I know a place near here..." She mumbled, not really looking forward to this, ecxpcially since she'd never admit he struck a nerve in her.

As she got her shoes on, Ale took another stolen glance at her chest. Yup, she wouldn't have lasted ten minutes alone on the street. Either someone would have mistaken her for a prostitute or they would have just outright kidnapped her. The city turned at night, leaving no one safe. It disgusted him.
"Ready?" he asked as he hug in the doorway. He flipped his ponytail out from under his jacket and waited for her to lead the way. If only he could be paid or his services as a bodyguard, he thought. One more job to add to the pile just to get him through life.

She smirked a little, looking at the counter. "You forgot the money..." She sighed, simply dropping the few credits into the tip jar without a thought. "Though alright... lets go... Where I'm headed is just a few blocks away..." She explained, slightly wishing she had broughten a jacket out tonight.
She had only expected to be out with her so called friends for a few hours, then call for aride home. But things as usual had turned uncomfortable so she left early, not really dressed for a Veratia night. But it was alright. She had experienced bone chilling cold before in her life. And she didnt quite mind it. It made her feel numb and she enjoyed that at times like these.
That and catching a cold didnt bother her either. It just meant she could hide away in her room until she was well enough to leave...
maybe it would even worry her mother a bit. Yes... look at the bright side.
