No. I want to do what you want to do.” Toulouse replied brightly, sliding into his place at the table. “This is really fancy. You didn’t go through too much trouble making it did you?” The sandwiches looked delectable and the soup smelled deliciously good. Toulouse made a promise to himself to eat at least half.

He went for the soup first, taking it up with a spoon and sipping delicately at it. “This is very yummy.” Toulouse said in the same pleasant tones he had used upstairs. “Is the recipe your own?”

"I found it in a book," Julien said, keeping his own voice pleasant. "I wasn't sure if we'd be spending a lot of energy today, and something filling seemed in order. I brought extra, in case you wanted some for later, or wanted Felicity to try it, too," he added, watching Toulouse.

Things felt stiff and awkward at the table and Toulouse had no idea how to pop to the bubble of strangeness between Julien and himself. So, he continued on while forcing his eyes to quite drooping to half-mast. “I’m glad you did. Thanks a lot. I’ll probably live off this for a week. Felicity doesn’t cook much, you know?” Toulouse going to smile but felt that it would come out as a sneer, so he kept his face neutrally pleasant.

He bit into the sandwich next, letting the meat practically melt in his mouth. He sighed, enjoying the taste at least.

"Not everyone enjoys cooking," Julien agreed, thinking of the way Mireille had a tendency to just pop in a microwave dinner when she was in the midst of writing. He paused, stirring his own soup thoughtfully for a long moment before asking quietly, "Have you ever considered learning? Since she doesn't cook much, I mean," he added, setting aside the spoon to take a bite of the sandwich.

Even just that first bite surprised him a bit. It tasted far better than it should, and it took him a moment to realize that he was honestly hungry, despite the unhappy fight between them.

Eh.” Toulouse replied taking another small sip of soup. He felt for some reason that there was a lot of food in front of him. Was there? Toulouse disliked overeating. “I honestly can’t be bothered with it. I just like to laze about on the back porch when Felicity isn’t home. I can make a sandwich though, does that count?” Toulouse took another bite of soup and decided he liked it much better than the sandwich. There was less chewing to be done on his part.

Toulouse watched Julien eat and asked the question he had thought earlier. “You don’t feel funny or anything do you? I mean, after all that magic?”

"Not really," Julien said, pausing in his food long enough to take stock. "Just hungrier than I thought I'd be. And a little tired, I suppose. Maybe we could do something quiet for a while before we go back to my lessons?" he suggested before taking another bite of his sandwich. He considered a moment, then got up, padding over to the fridge and looking in. "You've got lemon juice and sugar. I could make us lemonade and we could sit out on the porch, like you do when Felicity isn't home normally?"

Well, that’s good that you’re not feeling too ill.” Toulouse took one more bite of sandwich and soup respectively and was decidedly done. “That sounds fine if you would like to do that.” Toulouse said agreeably. Helpfully he added, “There’s a glass pitcher in that cupboard right above your head.”

"Thanks," Julien said, digging out the glass pitcher and moving to make the lemonade, even as his stomach growled. He'd sit down to eat once he was finished. "You're going to join me, right?" he asked gently. "We can relax and chat about something that has nothing to do with magic or the past or anything?"

Toulouse regarded Julien for a moment, then suddenly burst out in raucous laughter. It wasn’t a very well contained laugh either. It was loud and generally side splitting all around. Toulouse banged his small fist on the table, his head bent down as he tried to hide the amusement that was giggling out of the corners of his mouth

When he had managed to somewhat compose himself, Toulouse looked at Julien with watery eyes, still smiling. “Story of my life isn’t it?” Toulouse said around a bemused chuckle. Thinking back, it was all that he seemed to talk about with Julien. Drama, drama, drama. Toulouse was self centered and he saw it very clearly in that moment. “Yes, by thunder!” He said hitting his flat palm against the tabletop almost upsetting the soup bowl. “We shall talk of nothing if nothing amuses us properly thereof.”

Julien blinked at Toulouse for several confused seconds before the laughter became contagious. He laughed for a bit until he finally got himself under control, and then he was moving behind Toulouse to catch the boy in a hug. He closed his eyes for a moment, just holding on loosely before stepping back. "But first? You need to finish your lunch," he directed, moving to finish the lemonade.

Toulouse patted Julien’s hand as it wrapped around him and sighed just a bit. Toulouse would try to be less self centered in the future.

No way!” Toulouse cried in a mock whine from his chair. “I’m all done, see?” He said turning out his somewhat empty bowl of soup. “You have to finish your lunch first duckie. I could hear your stomach growl from a mile away.” Toulouse felt a little calmer now that his shallow realization had passed. He pushed all his dark thoughts away into the back of his mind, just wanting to have fun with Julien now.

"After I finish the lemonade. We'll want it to chill anyway," Julien said as he added the sugar to the mix before stirring hard. "Don't worry. I'll be finishing up all of my lunch. Did you not like the sandwich?" he asked, noting that Toulouse had only taken a couple bites of it.

It’s fine.” To show this Toulouse took another bite of sandwich, albeit a small one. “I just don’t eat that much is all. There was a lot of food here you know? Felicity often wonders about that.” Toulouse chortled to himself reflecting on how Felicity was always trying to poke food in him like some doting grandmother. “I really enjoyed the soup though. I like potatoes. Not as much as chocolate, but it’s right up there with bread and pudding. Not bread pudding though. That's just weird.” Toulouse nodded to himself as if that explained it all.

Julien nodded. "I can wrap the rest of your sandwich up until later," he offered, just before his own stomach growled loudly. "Uh... after I eat," he added, moving to set the lemonade in the fridge to chill and sit down to finish his soup and sandwich. "We had Kashya over the other night, and I made the beef for her then," he added with a smile.

You mean, like a sleepover?” Toulouse asked curiously watching Julien start to finish up his meal. “I’ve never met Kashya before. Is she nice?” Come to think of it, Toulouse hadn’t met that many people at all. “I only know you and Aelia. She said she knew you, right?”
