I remember going to see Pokemon 2000 when I was around 7 or 8, where I heard "the guardian's song." I wanted to learn to play it, so I chose the instrument that matched it best (flute), and that's how I got started.

I play bassoon, but started out as a clarient. It started in 7th grade, when I made all-district band for clarient. For the first day, I was sitting next to the bassoons and I was like :O they are amazing!
So I basically fell in love with the bassoon there, and been playing it for almost 2 years now. Best decision ever!!! biggrin

Back in the ancient past, I used to be a little clarinet player, bout two years in I finally convinced my band director that I had the lungs to out-play our current tuba player. I then, started Bass Clarinet and it's stuck ever since.

Hmm, long, long ago, I began playing clarinet...And I hated it. When I first joined band in 5th grade, I wanted to play trumpet, but my mom said that it was too loud, and told me to play clarinet. There were about 30 clarinet back then, and I was constantly annoyed, then I saw a high school band concert, and fell in love with the thing call bassoon. I had no clue what it was, but thought it was weird, and I liked that. But, when I tried to switch to it going into 6th grade, all the bassoons were already taken, and my director switched me to bass clarinet, which I loved oh so much!! Played it for 4 years, then this year, our new director told me to switch to bassoon, since the high school's only other bassoon player is graduating in a few short months. I play other instruments on the side, like bari sax, but, I will always love my bass clarinet! ^_^ Even though bassoon is cool
My parent are getting annoyed that I keep picking bigger instruments...

Natsuhiboshi Naze Akai
My parent are getting annoyed that I keep picking bigger instruments...
sweatdrop My mom was mad when I first brought my Tuba home. xD
Anyway.
Flute: I wanted to do band soooo badly. All my friends were in it, and my Bd said they needed more flutes, so there you go. (I was about to chose oboe. xD)
Trombone: Not sure, tbh. :I
Piccolo: Just wanted to.
Tuba: When my BD told us we could play bigger instruments, I asked him right away after band. He said I could play it in January, and here I am! A happy Tuba player. x3
(Marching) Baritone: I need to practice scales and music for Tuba, and plus, I'd like to learn another instrument incase my dad doesn't get me a Alto Flute. ;~;

Well, When I was in fourth grade the middle school band director came down to the elementary schools, and brought first chair students with him, and they all played something together and sepreate so we all could hear them. We got to ask questions and stuff, and when we went back to class, we got to sign up for band, I was sooooooo excited. At first I wanted to play percussion, and then the band director told me that they had too many of them, so I chose saxophone! I am so happy I did.

I started on clarinet because of my mother. She played in high school and could make even the crappiest school-loaned clarinet sound like liquid gold. When I was a kid, I admired that ability and I wanted to be able to do that myself.
Since then, the instruments I've tried along the way are ones that somehow fell into my lap. My grandfather had a mandolin from the 1920s that belonged to HIS grandfather, so I played that one for a while. He also had a tenor banjo and a standard banjo, so I tried those for a while (just for fun, not in a band or anything). That lead me to buying a cheap guitar on eBay and learning a few songs on it, and then my grandmother has her old violin from elementary school, so I wanted to try IT, but it's in desperate need of restoration, so I haven't had a chance to do that one yet. Phew. Long list of instruments!

For baritone we were given 3 choices on what instrument we wanted to play. My band's conductor wouldn't let us play bari sax, so my first choice was tenor sax. My second was tuba and third was baritone. I got baritone, then had to learn tuba coz our tuba player couldn't play, and then learned trombone coz our trombone section was only 1 person.

well... in fifth grade we had this "open tryout", if u wanna call it that, where anyone from the fifth grade could come in and decide if they wanted to do band. so i went in and tried out 3 intruments: alto sax, trumpet, and the clarinet. i couldn't make a sound on the trumpet and i could play all the notes on the clarinet so guess what i play? A SAX! jk the clarinet... i've played it for...wow 7 years now eek didn't realize it until now sweatdrop but what i really want to learn is how to play the bells and xylo....basically those types of intruments by my BD doesn't want to teach me (cuz he says im one of his better clarinet players lol...he just doesn't want to teach me cuz he's old rofl) so im having a friend teach me...altho i can't read notes and match them to the right block yet
