onicoe I've never understood the low-carb diet. Because wouldn't low carb mean cutting back on just about everything you eat? Or do you just avoid sugars and the starchy carbs like potato, wheat, corn and all their products? (bread, pasta, etc.) Something like the second one. smile The media loves to rail against low-carb diets, but most of their attacks are based on outdated and faulty dietary dogma. I could spend hours explaining why it's healthy, why meat (and saturated fat!) is better for you than wheat, etc... but I won't, at least, not here. It would take... heh... hours. mrgreen It most definitely involves avoiding highly refined carbs and carbs that might as well be highly refined, such as in white rice, potatoes, apples, table grapes, and bananas. This type of thing is generally replaced by lower-carbohydrate vegetables. There are definitely lots of veggies and some whole grains. I know when a lot of people hear the words "low-carb" they imagine a steaks piled like pancakes - and that might be true for some individuals who are either following an extreme plan or heard about low-carbing, but never actually read any material on it. (A lot of people who failed on low-carb plans and then whine about it never actually did any research.) I started off with the Atkins plan, which is waaaaaay better than the media describes. (The stack-of-steaks people are the exception, not the rule.) It might surprise you to learn that people who try this plan often end up eating more vegetables than they've ever eaten in their lives before! Low-carb diets are often subjugated to some of the most absurd (and ignorant) straw men ever. Like "but we neeeeeeeeeeed carbs!" It's low-carb, not no-carb. (And actually, humans can get by without eating any carbs at all. Not that I would recommend it - not sustainable. But now you know something that most people are ignorant don't.) Or "Eating meat will make your kidneys/heart asplode!" (Why are all these long-term low-carbers still alive - and have perfect cholesterol despite eating saturated fats?) Like any way of eating, low-carb diets (and there are many variations, actually) are not for everyone. It's definitely made a huge improvement in my life, though, and in the lives of countless others who were not cut out for simply controlling their calories. I've probably gone and spoken green blasphemy, but it's the truth. wink

Djeheuty Hey, I just got an invite, because on of you saw one of my older threads I made.
Anyways, I'm David. I'm 22, and live in Western NY. I don't do much, because I'm mainly working all the time, on 12 hour shifts. So in my spare time, I'm either sleeping, or getting ready for work. When I do have a day off, I'm usually in the GD, playing some game, or hanging out with my friends.
I can't think of much more right now. I'm too hungry to think. Haha! Welcome david :3

Hi y'all. (no I'm not in Texas any more, lol, but I was born there and lived there 30 some odd years) Yes I AM old xd . I am now in Washington state, and it is green mrgreen in several ways, lol. I do what I can to help the environment, I do believe in the 3 R's and try to abide by them. I have 3 cats all rescued in various ways, spayed and neutered. I also have an old and cranky rat terrier. We have a large house with an extended family living here. As far as food goes, I'll eat anything put in front of me (not picky redface ) But I do try to eat healthy (good carbs and fats, lean meats, etc...) It's nice to meet everyone, thanks for having me. BTW I have a "green ava" in the arena, in case you are interested in looking.

Hey everyone. I'm Molly. I am 17 years old. At this time I am an intern at a self-sufficient farm. We grow organic crops and every friday we have a harvest and sell our crops at a local farmers market near town. During the fall/winter/spring months I help maintain 2 greenhouses while studying agriscience and hydroponics. Hydroponics is my big thing, I love it. I'm studying environmental science right now also.

Hello! As of recently, I've realized how important it is to be green so I'm trying to learn as much as I can and spread the word about it. I'm an artist at Savannah college of art and design, and I love video games and eating. lol.
