You mean like an argument?

Fine.

Don't come near me. Ever.

Now loosely holding hands - Danny’s subsequent smile delighted and content - the boys made their way down towards the kitchens, where the unmoving, painted portrait of an overflowing bowl of ripened fruit yielded their dormitory. The password had been set to “Coverslut” until Josh’s sudden dropping out; now Professor Sol had provided “Juicy Fruit” as the secret phrase, which wasn’t very secret at all considering Hufflepuffs were actively encouraged to invite other House students to visit the Common Room.

The room was occupied by dozens of fat, overstuffed chairs and equally squishy couches, a plethora of framed and beaming pictures hanging on the walls - students from recent and present years, waving wildly at the unseen camera and bearing the blazing yellow and black ties of their House. Danny had always liked the photographs. He’d enjoyed watching former students run from frame to frame, enjoying summer scenery even when Danny himself was shivering near the fireplace.

“We’re home,” he declared cheerfully, but made no move to drop Godfrey’s hand.

"Yep." Godfrey said, nodding once. His fingers twitched slightly in Danny's but he didn't pull away. His bag was feeling rather heavy though so he took it off his shoulder and swung it onto the seat of a nearby chair. It wasn't quite time for bed yet, after all.

"Um....." Godfrey looked down at their hands, blushing slightly before looking away. He felt awkward. What to do next? Pull away and go sit down and read or study more? Excuse himself and go to bed early? He looked up at Danny for a solution, wondering what he wanted to do.

Sensing the mounting awkwardness, Danny gave Godfrey’s hand an affectionate squeeze, releasing the warmth of his fingers and tossing his own book bag down with his classmate’s. The cushion thumped with the sudden addition of more weight.

“Man, we’re so weird,” he muttered with a chuckle, placing a hand on the back of his own neck. “Guess we haven’t spent much time together before - we’ll get used to it -- or you’ll get tired of me, anyway,” he added with another, easier laugh. “You don’t look tired. How about we, um… I downloaded a couple of movies on my laptop earlier. We could go upstairs and maybe watch one if you want?”

Godfrey stuck his hands in his back pockets, rocking back on his heels once before nodding.

"A movie sounds fun. Got any animated ones?" There were a couple of new muggle films he hadn't watched yet.

“I’ve got all of Pixar’s, I think their most recent one was Toy Story 3,” Danny noted thoughtfully, running through his collection of movies mentally; he had some anime, but he didn’t think that counted for “animated.” Or maybe it did? He’d never considered it before. He’d mostly watched movies with Hugo or his brother Gerald and neither of them liked anime much unless it was dubbed. And most yaoi wasn’t. “Got any fresh popcorn?” he asked, joking as he moved towards the massive, circular doors that opened into the short tunnels into their dormitories.

"Cool, I haven't seen that one yet. And I don't have popcorn but what about some fudge instead?" Godfrey grabbed the package from his bag and hurried after Danny.

"My Dad's a pretty big movie buff so he has a lot, but I don't really go downstairs that much to watch them." Avoiding Harry if at all possible.

“Father’s got movies, but they’re mostly older American cinema, that whole Gone with the Wind era,” Danny elaborated as they moved through the tunnel, grinning at the addition of fudge. “Mum’s not much into movies, he likes to keep active, and Dad…” he paused to consider his words, a light flush touching his cheeks. “Er, guess I should explain that. I’ve got three parents. I dunno if anyone told you that.” He knew from classmate chatter that Godfrey had two male parents and someone named Xeno, but truthfully he didn’t know much about Frey’s home life. He’d have to coax him into talking about it when they got more comfortable. “Three male parents, two older siblings, and one on the way.”

Godfrey laughed, shaking his head. "My family is MUCH weirder, don't worry. I'll tell you the story sometime about how I got my ears."

Godfrey tweeked one of his fox ears. "I just have two dads and a....... er... a Xeno, I guess. I wouldn't call him anything else. And there's my younger twin sister in Slytherin and my baby half-brother, but he stays with Xeno now. It's kind of weird... I never really wanted any........ anyways...um..."

When they entered the dorms Godfrey walked over and sat on the edge of Danny's bed. He crossed his ankles together and set his hands in his lap.. "How long have you had your laptop? I don't use computers much so.... er... you like it?"

“Yeah. I spend a little too much time on it, I guess, but there’s so much you can do on it it’s hard to get bored. I play some games, download movies, stuff like that.” Danny gave a relaxed, noncommittal shrug of his shoulder, attempting to brush off the fact that he spent three-quarters of his free time glued to the pale glow of his computer screen. He kept active, of course - going out with his Dad, broom practice with his Mum, jogging on Saturday morning with Gerald - but it was easier to curl up with his laptop than spend the weekend at Hugo’s or go swimming with fellow Puffs in the lake. He wasn’t anti-social, but… he didn’t really know anyone that well.

Danny grinned. “Well, at least we’ve both got weird family situations. Won’t be so awkward meeting my parents then, whenever you do. I have this muggleborn friend who came over once, and wanted to know about my surrogate mother. It was super weird explaining… well, I mean, you know.” Two men magically having a baby? Christa had never spoken to him again, too perplexed and disgusted by the whole concept. And she was a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance.

Never really wanted any… what?

Danny was sorely tempted to prod the boy for further information - this was the second or third time Godfrey had cut his own train of thought off - but Danny had learned the concept of tact from his father at a very early age. Granted, most days he ignored it, but he didn’t want to piss Frey off or frustrate him with constant badgering, so he let the urge to ask go.

Danny fished the laptop out of his trunk, having to dig through an armload of dirty, wrinkled clothing and a plastic sack of candy from Hogsmeade, his Movie Laptop - holding more memory than the one he used for browsing the Internet, nestled in his bag - brushed clean of chocolate shavings and situated on the bed. The fifth year crawled up on the blanket beside his date and went about drawing Toy Story 3 from the bowels of the computer.

“I’ve been taking technomagic since third year,” he elaborated as a tap of his wand tossed the movie onto the inside of his bed’s hangings, as though a large screen had been summoned. He drew them shut so the image wouldn’t be disrupted. He scrunched his nose up in thought as the picture shifted, three-dimensional effects bouncing between them as the movie started.

"I haven't really been able to take many classes besides the basics. But there's plenty of time to learn things, even if it's after graduation." Godfrey took off his shoes before sliding back against the pillows, sitting upright with his legs crossed. The projecting spell was kind of neat. Maybe useful for future homework, he would definitely have to get Danny to teach him it. There were lots of classes he wanted to take at Hogwarts: intro to spellmaking, music magic, animating, etc. Unfortunately there just weren't enough hours in the day.

"Muggle studies, arithmancy, and ancient runes is all I could fit in." Godfrey reached back and propped the pillows up higher before leaning back. He gave a cursory glance to the closed curtains- no big deal and better than squinting at a small screen.

He quieted when the movie started, periodically nibbling at a piece of fudge so he wouldn't get sick from eating too much. To be truthful he was paying more attention to the movie than to Danny. He couldn't draw and didn't really like using computers, so animated movies were much like a foreign magic to him.

About fifteen minutes into the movie’s plot, Danny shifted to half sprawl on his hip, an elbow planted firmly against the mattress to support him in his half-slump. This put his legs behind the other boy, the fluffed warmth of his tail brushing the bare skin of Danny’s knees through the torn material of his jeans. He glanced down, curious, and had to quell the Sirius-gene-given urge ignore any possible consequences and touch. He’d watched yaoi with pretty boys bestowed with cat’s ears and action anime with catgirls as space pirates, but he’d only seen one or two people in real life with appendages like Godfrey’s. Magical accidents, mostly from misused spells, but Godfrey had implied there was more backstory than a simple ******** up.

Would his tail be just as soft to Danny’s fingers?

“Let me know if you want to lay down,” Danny said casually, his voice only cracking slightly on the word “want.” ******** a duck, when had it gotten so hot in here? When had the hangings on his bed become so… intimately closed? Crap, he was blushing now, bright and red and all the way down his neck. Over wanting to touch some boy’s tail. Godfrey’s tail. Touching Godfrey.

Sex was far from the things on Danny’s priority list. He knew he’d do that eventually, with someone, but casual touches and first time kissing was more in his line of thought. Since he’d experienced neither of those.

"Huh?" Godfrey replied, half- glancing at Danny but not really taking his eyes off the movie. The graphics had REALLY improved.

"Oh yeah, sure." Godfrey wasn't very flustered at all. Then again casual touches and invading the person space of people he was friends with was a normal occurance for him, always had been, even before Josh. And perhaps that's why they had moved so fast.

But he stayed in his preffered positon, his hands grabbing his socked toes and rubbing them absently. His socks were always very soft and he liked touching them.

His tail flicked gently, the tip flicking up at an unexpected or emotional moment, moving faster in excitement at various places and with it his ears swivelled up, down, back and forward constantly, matching it's movements and each combination meaning something different.

The movie drifted on, images from the screen - flung toys, toppled objects, jumping characters - bouncing out as any 3D movie would, but with sharper quality. Danny found himself watching Godfrey’s tail and its range of movement, attempting to learn its various jolts and swishes and how they corresponded to the male’s emotions. As the toys sought an escape from the hell of daycare, the movie gone dark with the nighttime slinking of the characters, Danny reached out and, with all the casual air he could muster, slid his fingers lightly across the softness of fur about midway down his classmate’s tail.
