Beck's mouth nearly fell open with shock at Peter's comment. Instead, her eyes widened slightly before a devious grin spread across her face. "Is that a promise?" she replied. The girl didn't have any time to contemplate her extremely unusual answer as Peter distracted her with an unexpected tap to her nose. Wrinkling it, she frowned. "Fingers off the nose!" she cried, pulling a hand up to cover it, though she hadn't really minded the touch. In fact, she wasn't so sure she'd mind if he did it again...though what would be the point of that?

Beck's nose was sort of a sore spot for the girl. While not overly concerned with her looks, her nose had always been something she'd noticed. Just like the rest of her body, it was angular and larger than most teenage girls would prefer. Of all the things to have inherited from her father, it had to be the thing that sat right in the middle of her face. Thankfully, she wasn't all that hard to look at so it offset her less-than-desirable nose. Maybe. Hopefully.

Caught up in random thoughts, Beck wasn't entirely aware of what she was doing as she reached up and brushed a lock of hair out of Peter's eyes as it fell lightly back into place. Her hand nearly froze there as surprise overtook her. Bringing it down slowly, she clutched the blanket again as a bright flush of color spread across her cheeks. "Sorry," she muttered, embarassed. "It's just...I, er, I like your hair. Like this. It's nice." The corner of her mouth curved ever so slightly up in the semblance of a nervous smile. 'Dear Merlin, what am I doing?'

"Get a room, you two," Nicodeamus taunted, a grin on his face. He ran another hand over his beard, and finally decided to stop fussing over it. He leaned back, kicking his feet up on the table, though his attention was turned over to Moira. At her refusal, he grinned and chuckled.

"Hah! I know how you feel. Had to get the house-elf to enlarge the doorframes so I wouldn't get a concussion," he told Peter with a Cheshire cat grin, "And Moira..." He trailed off, remembering her free will. He was used to having to force his stubborn sister to listen to the Healers. However, Moira was not his sister, and she had free will. Giving her a quick apology, he turned away, his light thoughts instantly turning heavy and dark. He returned to the dark, gloomy day that had been his mother's funeral, the day that had reflected his mood perfectly. He remained leaned back, his eyes cold. A dull sheen had returned to them.

Peter returned her grin with a grin of his own, smiling down at the red head. he didn't have to look down to far, not as far as some girls who barely made the five foot mark.
His body jumped when she exclaimed 'Fingers off the nose!' and his smile grew larger and larger. "Well of course Milady. Though, I my fingers have to go somewhere." Peter raised his eyebrows, giving her a dashingly sexy look as he ran his tongue across his teeth, trying to look as sexy as possible.
"Why Beck, Of course I'll make it a promise. That is, if you want me to make it a promise." Peter's grin was becoming something more evil by the second, his blue eyes narrowing into an evil grin.

When she moved the piece of hair out of his face, he was shocked, and the expression on his face showed it. "Why Beckett! I do believe you just touched me! And you blushed too" He grinned, looking down at the silver eyed wonder. Of course he was teasing her, his father always made one thing clear when peter got mad about being teased by his sister and mother. His father always told him that you don't tease someone you didn't care about.

Wow Beck, your so cute when you blush. Especially in that blanket. Oh gosh, if only that was all she- NO. no. Just stop it already. Right as Beckett turned her expression into a nervous smile, he knew what she was doing. With a calm smile, he wanted to make her feel as good as he could.
"Well, if you like my hair like this, then I'll let you fix it as often as you like." he winked, totally forgetting that just a few minutes ago, Beckett was fast asleep on the couch.

When Nico commented on them getting a room, Peter put a hand up to his chin in a thoughtful way, asking himself what kind of room he could use. of course, his thoughts came up short, and he dismissed the comment.

"Well, they don't have to go there," she grumbled, running the tip of her finger down the bridge of her freckled nose. She tried desperately to be frustrated, but the look Peter was giving her was making her flush even more than she had before. It didn't help that the tall boy pointed out the color staining her cheeks. Despite her slight unease, Beck could tell Peter was teasing her and she let out a peal of laughter, her grin firmly back in place. "Ah, so I did. It must be because you're so devastatingly handsome. You make me swoon." She placed a hand against her forehead in imitation of the over exaggerated acting of old and pretended to swoon, though she didn't have to pretend much.

Her 'swoon' faltered, however, when Peter offered to let her fix his hair as often as she liked. She forced out a "What an honor!" that was intended to be a joke, but the rising pitch of her voice betrayed her true emotions. Her blush threatened to come back full force until someone else spoke. Beck jumped and took a step back as Nico called out to them to get a room. She had completely forgotten everyone else was still in the Common room. Clearing her throat quietly, Beck laughed at his comment, trying to play all of it off as a joke when she really didn't think she'd ever felt so uncomfortable in her entire life.

Peter couldn't help but let out a small amount of laughter as she swooned. He knew deep inside that it was only half forced, though, he wished she didn't have to force a swoon at all.
"Now beck, don't ruin my fun." He stood next to her, putting his right arm around her shoulders, his eyes were directly on hers as he led her over to a couch. The couch was as far away from Nico as he could get, considering the fact that he didn't want him eavesdropping on any more of the conversation.
"Lets take a seat. It's been more than five minutes, but now I really don't care." Referring to her plea for five more minutes, he took a seat, draping himself neatly on the couch, motioning for Beckett to take a seat next to him.
"Now Beckett." He was completely sincere now, a soft smile on his face as he spoke.
I cannot believe I'm admitting this. Don't go back, just spit it out you big dumbass.
"Remember when I was in the hospital for a month, and I couldn't remember anyone. Well. I remember you coming almost every day to see me. Even today I'm still asking myself a simple question about that. Did you come see me because you wanted to see me, or because you felt guilty?" His face was unbelievably serious, his blue eyes looking directly into Beckett's silver eyes. Peter had been asking himself that question for a long time, but never had he asked the question out loud. Now that they were both 'slap-happy' from lack of sleep, he thought that it would be the best time to ask. With a small sigh, he let out a smile, the memory of the Quidditch team coming in to help him was a happy one indeed. Of course, he couldn't remember who anyone was, he still appreciated their efforts. Though, Beckett had stayed with him longer than anyone else, and she was always smiling. Peter kept forgetting her name, every time he asked, she would tell him, and by the next day he would have to ask again.

That was one of his favorite memories, being in the hospital. A rather strange memory for it to be his favorite, but none the less, it was. He was surrounded by all of his friends, and one friend who had taken the time to make sure he was alright.

Moira watched Peter and Beckett's interaction with a bit of amusement. Peter was definitely not her type, but Beck seemed cute with him. She smiled slightly. And of course, he couldn't pull any crap with her. However, she had to laugh when Nico told them to get a room, the option was becoming increasingly necessary. Moira turned her face to Nico when he spoke, but his voice trailed off, and she watched as his eyes became overcast. She frowned, unsure what he was thinking.
"Nico..?" She asked quietly.

Beck stayed silent as Peter draped an arm across her shoulders and led her to a couch across the room. She was unsure where the conversation was going, but by this point she didn't really care. She'd already said and done so many things that were seemingly out of character for her that she wasn't even sure what and wasn't odd anymore. She was resigned to the fact that she was going to stay in a perpetual state of discomfort for the rest of the night.

Sitting down on the couch, Beck pulled her legs up and under her, facing Peter. She was both nervous and curious at the seriousness of his tone. For some reason, he began talking about his quidditch accident, asking her if she remembered it. Well, of course she remembered it. She'd never been so scared in her life. Moments later, however, he'd gotten to the point. Beck's first reaction was to slip into another joke and tell Peter that of course it was only because she felt quilty, insert quip here, but just as she opened her mouth to answer she found that the words wouldn't come. Probably because they weren't really the truth.

'Well, might as well be honest,' she thought, taking a deep breath. "I never visited you because I felt guilty. At first, the frequency of my visits was due to guilt. I was so scared that you wouldn't get better and I knew it was my fault for missing that stupid bludger. I never miss them when they're heading for a teammate, but I don't know what happened that day. I-" She paused to take a deep breath. She was rambling. "After a while, I kept visiting so often because...I wanted to. I didn't mind that you couldn't remember me and I had to tell you my name every day. You were still you and you were still my friend. I just...liked spending time with you."

At a loss for what else to say, Beck fell silent again, her gaze trained on her knees. Vaguely, she realized she was still wearing her uniform and tugged idly on the hem of her skirt, pulling it down over her knees.

As Beckett spoke, he could feel a small sincere smile growing on his face. She opened up to you dude, that's, like amazing. Wait. She didn't joke? She didn't do anything she normally would have. Something must be up.

"Thanks Beck. For being honest. Though, I have to admit, that it is one of my most treasured memories. Every day I could remember a little bit more. Though, near the end, I could remember your name, I just liked hearing you say it. You were so sincere, always joking. It meant a lot to me that you came. Every day to no avail."

Peter had never been so sincere in his entire life. Not when Evelyn had sent him to a psychiatrist over the summer prior to his parents death. Not even to his former girlfriend who he treated like a queen. Peter was glad that someone trusted him, and better yet, that someone was Beckett.

Peter reached his hand over to her, putting it on the side of her face, rubbing his thumb in circles on her soft freckled skin.
"It meant a lot to me. Who knows, maybe I would never have remembered if you didn't come. Thanks." With swift movements, Peter planted a small kiss on Beckett's forehead, then placing his arm around her shoulders, drawing her close to him.

Peter leaned into her, his face in her ear as he whispered something soft into her ear. It didn't matter that her hair was in front of her ears, he would talk through her red locks.
"I really mean it Beck. Thanks. I may not have remembered who I was without you. Oh, I hope I'm not making you feel to uncomfortable. Though, your flustered face is always something I like to see."

Peter sat up, his arm still around her shoulders. The urge to just kiss her (on the lips) almost overwhelmed him, but that nagging feeling in the back of his head told him that it would be to soon, and the he wanted Beckett to know that he wouldn't push her. He would never let his urges get the better of him. No matter how badly the rest of him wanted her.

Moira played with the hem of her skirt, picking at invisible threads. Her tired mind played over the day's events, since she woke up until she had heard Nico's apology. It seemed to her that the day had not been a day at all, but rather a year, or three! She missed Judas and Addison. Which was actually funny to her. She hadn't even known they existed until this morning and now she felt their absence.
Her eyes wandered around the room, trying to avoid the private moments. She smiled. Lucky them

Eyes widening as Peter spoke, Beck slowly took in his words. She had no idea visiting him in the hospital wing had meant so much to Peter. A range of emotions filtered across her face as she reacted without reservation. At first, surprise then anger. He'd tricked into thinking he still couldn't remember his name. After all the worrying she did. Something almost akin to physical pain flickered across her features as Peter gently touched her face. She jerked her head in a small movement as if she was fighting the urge to pull her head away. Her cheek felt as if it burned where he had touched her and she was quite suddenly very aware of how close they were, of all the places they were touching.

Beck made a last ditch effort to gain control of the situation back, but as Peter softly kissed her forehead, pulling her close against him, something broke. Without warning, her face crumpled into a mask of pain, her entire body trembling with the unexpected and unwanted emotions coursing through her. Fighting to control her breathing which was seemingly wanting to come in erratic gasps, she made a weak effort to pull out of Peter's arms. Confusion, anger, pain, and a touch of hope...of happiness warred with each other for dominance in her mind. Dammit, she had promised herself this wouldn't happen! Not again. Not ever again. All the years she'd spent building that solid, inpenetrable wall and within mere moments, it had been cracked. Certainly not destroyed, but cracked. With one small gesture.

Unable to think, let alone act, Beck sat just sat there hoping that something would start to make sense again and soon.

Peter pulled his arm from around her like he had just been burned. He had felt her shake, he had seen her face crumple, the always solid face of beckett had been broken right in front of him.
"Beck. I'm so sorry. Did I-" He paused, without realizing it, his hand was going up and down her arm in a calming was, trying his hardest to support her without getting burned.

Oh gosh you brute. What did you do? Oh my gosh! Is she alright, is she going to be okay.

"Beckett, I didn't mean. I mean, if you don't-"
Once again he stopped mid-sentence, at a loss for words. 'If you don't want me.' Or that was, at a loss for helpful words. His face was stricken with worry, and horror as he watched the girl fade away. Unsure of what to do, he put his arm back around the girl, not sure how this would help, but he was hoping. He drew her into him, he could feel her shaking. Peter was afraid that she would start crying, that he had done something wrong, that he had done something to hurt her. If he had hurt her, in any way, he would never forgive himself.

Peter, this is what you get. You should have just kept to yourself, not talked to anyone. Wait. No, you could never do that because you love people far to much to do such a thing. Just try and make her feel comfortable. Do anything to relieve her pain. Dammit, anything!

"Beckett, What's wrong?" He spoke not in a way that someone normally would hear him. You could almost hear the worry burning through his voice as he spoke softly, trying not to frighten her, or make things worse.

"If you don't want to tell me, that's fine. I'll accept it, but.." His voice trailed off, Peter didn't want to let her know that he really wanted to know what was wrong. Beckett had gone through a lot, and he knew that she was hurting inside. He didn't however, realize how badly she was hurting, at least, not in time to keep her from hurting any more.

'Merlin, Beckett, get ahold of yourself!' she thought violently. What the hell was going on? For some time, all she could do was cling to the arms securely wrapped around her and breathe. 'That's right. Just breathe.' As her mind began to clear, Beck started to recognize the symptoms though she'd experienced them only once before. She'd clearly had a panic attack, though she was lucky she'd pulled herself out of this one. The last time it had happened, just after she'd found out Bryce had died, her father had been there to hold her and talk her out of it. Though he hadn't known to talk her through it, Beck was exceedingly glad Peter was there, a solid, warm weight against her.

Slowly, the trembling eased to mild, sporadic shivers and her breathing evened out some. Grateful that the uncontrollable feeling of helplessness was gone, Beck opened her eyes slowly and the situation in which she found herself finally sunk in. '<********>.'

In the back of her mind, Beck knew Peter had been trying to get her to tell him what was wrong and she did not want to do that in any way shape or form...but what choice did she have now? Surely he thought she was a raving lunatic after that display. And what had caused all of it in the first place? Deep down, Beck knew, but she didn't want to acknowledge it. Quickly, she tried to figure out a way to pass it off. 'It was just a fit. I have them occassionally. I go mental for a bit then I'm perfectly fine. Nothing to worry about.' Right...that'd go over well. Heaving a huge sigh, Beck slowly turned her gaze up to meet Peter's.

The words "I'm sorry" were out of her mouth before she could logically think of something to say. She wanted so badly to jump off the couch and run up to the dormitories and lock herself in. How was she going to explain this? Vaguely, Beck realized that she had been repeating the words over and over again like some sort of mantra. Shaking her head, Beck ran shaking fingers through her hair. It was now or never.

"I don't...I don't know what happened. I haven't had a panic attack since I was nine." Pausing, Beck frowned as she gazed at Peter. Sharp, nearly frenzied worry was etched into every line of his face. Slowly, she reached up and with the lightest of touches smoothed over the worry lines on his face, her fingertips barely touching his face. "I just-I don't know why. It's-you're just- and I-" Let's try and string a full sentence togther, yea? That's generally how speaking works. "<********>," she murmured, voicing her earlier thought. "This is harder than I thought it would be. It's all-I haven't-" her voice dropped to a whisper "I can't."

She knew Peter would probably take that the wrong way, thinking she meant she couldn't handle whatever this was that was developing between them, and maybe that was true, but that wasn't what she'd meant. Maybe someday she'd be able to sort all of this out, someday soon, and explain, but not tonight. There was too much going on in her head that she had to figure out for herself first. "I'm sorry if I scared you," she said quietly, moving to get up. Surely he didn't want to be around her now.

The moment Beckett swore, a rush of relief came crashing over him. She's alright. She swore, and she's alright. Nothing's wrong, she's not dead, she's fine.
peter was half shocked when her touch was on his face, the smallest of goosebumps went across his skin, the hairs on his arms stood straight up like he had been shocked.
"It's alright. Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself. Oh wait. Maybe I can't." Peter managed a reassuring smile down on Beckett, trying not to linger on what had happened to much.
In a few swift movements, he was standing up, and he had pulled Beckett to her feet, his hand in hers. He had a very stern look on his face, though, you could tell that he was just trying to be kind.
"Okay. Now it's time for us both to get to bed." Putting strong emphasis on 'now' he smiled at Beckett, trying to make her feel more comfortable than she had been feeling.
"It's fine. Your alright. Maybe if you get some rest, in the morning you'll be right as rain. "
On the outside Peter was cool as a cucumber, his expression stabilized, not a dot of worry on his face. On the inside he was screaming, unsure about what to do with Beck, or with both of them. With a yawn, Peter stretched out his arms, reaching high into the air.
You'll be right as rain? Seriously? What the hell does that even mean anyways!?
"Forget about it. Your fine now, nothing to worry about. However, we both should get to bed. I'm seeing two of you now. Even though I wouldn't complain if there really was two of you"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:30 pm

Laughing quietly, Beck nodded. "Yea, maybe you're right. I just need sleep. Hopefully. You never know, I could be touched in the head and you might have to take me St. Mungos. In all honesty, I really don't think that would hurt." Shaking her head in slight disgust at her totally untimely pseudo breakdown of sorts, Beck followed with smirked. "Two of me, eh? The world wouldn't know what hit it." Her smirk softened to a smile and she gently nudged Peter with her shoulder, happy things seemed to be back to a semblance or normalcy. At least for a little bit.

Making her way to the stairs leading up to the girl's dormitory, Beck turned to look back at Peter. "You want to go flying tomorrow? Maybe pull out the quaffle or something?" She knew full well both of them could use a good fly around the grounds. It was a stress reliever. "I promise I won't damage your brain this time," she added with a grin. Maybe after a good night's sleep (though she'd probably stay up most of the night thinking) and some flying, after a day of normalcy and the mundane to pull her away from her thoughts, something would make sense and she'd finally be able to place her finger on what happened tonight. Get a new perspective or whatnot. Beck nearly shrugged at her own thoughts, realizing how odd that would probably look if she had.

Peter couldn't help but smile, grin even. Beckett was coming back to normal, and he would let her forget the panic attack. Though, he wouldn't let her forget that he was glad she had spent time with him the hospital.
Well that went rather well. She's happy, tired, but happy. You had gotten her to show her true colors, even if they were a little scary. Beckett is perfectly alright, and I am going to pass out if I don't get to bed.

When he herd Beckett's offer to go out to the quidditch field, his smile was faint and sincere, glad that there was something constant in his life.
"I would love to go throw the quaffle around. I haven't been on a broom since June. I must be a little rusty. I wouldn't mind if you damaged my brain again. As long as you visit me in the hospital wing." With a wink peter managed to go back to his casual self, looking at Beckett like he had seen her at the Gryffindor table, even if he wanted to see something more.

"Good night beck." He said, softly and serene as he turned on his heel, and went into the boys dorm to get some sleep.
