"Hmm... perhaps ask Ulani how your grandmother is doing.. then see if we can track her down," he murmured.

Donovan paused and listened, he had already knocked on Celeborn's door once, he wondered if the man was out somewhere else. The only other place he could think of was the archery range, and he couldn't recall seeing anyone there as they were heading towards the barracks.

"But isn't it not good to be out by yourself?" Lin asked.

Celebor nodded. "Aliya said she would be here this afternoon," he agreed, "I'll ask her then. You have to talk to her though too, don't you? What does she do to help with the hunt?"

Obviously she did something, or else Donovan wouldn't have to talk to her, which Celebor knew he did.

"Personally, I think he makes himself busier than he needs to," Haradhel shrugged. "He has been for a few years already. I think he intentionally avoids home sometimes."

Arwen smiled. "That's Elwing, the one Aragost hasn't told me about before," she explained. She looked over at the runes on the next page. "Actually," she murmured softly, "here's the story right here."

She giggled. "I didn't see that before."

Finally, the door to Celeborn's quarters opened, and the man appeared, framed by sunlight from his open window, his white golden hair disheveled, eyes droopy with sleep, wearing nothing but a blanket wrapped around his waist.

"Oh, Donovan," he grinned, suddenly looking more alert. "And ... Celebor, if I'm not mistaken. Er ... sorry about my appearance, I just got off a twelve-hour overnight shift, I was sleeping ..."

He stepped to the side. "Please, come in," he invited them. "And ... don't mind the mess."

As usual.

Aliya sighed at Haradhel. "You always say that, but I still haven't seen any proof of your suspicions," she replied. "I still say he's just absorbed in his work, and that's it."

Adan blinked innocently at Lin. "Why not?" he questioned her. "I go outside by myself all the time in the day, why not at night? Besides, I really won't be alone, I'll be around Feng and Ryu, and then I'll be back inside! It's not like I'll be going far away from the house or anything."

"If researching is what he prefers...." Kara shrugged in turn.

She didn't know Adonai very well to be honest so she couldn't say if this was normal behaviour or not. He did seem retain a certain shyness of people, or he just preferred to be by himself she couldn't tell.

"What does it say?" Miyu asked.

Since she couldn't read the language at all, so she had no idea what the runes said.

"Never do," Donovan murmured, "It won't take long Celeborn, you know the drill by now. Though there will be one change."

With that he held up one finger to signal to wait a moment as he waited for Celebor to step in and him into into an explaination about Ulani.

"It is how we track the slavers," he explained to Celebor, "Part of the slaver tracking comes from reports, but the exact location comes from Ulani showing us through magic, the only other person who would know the exact location is Aragost. To be fair... though... there's very little if anything that man doesn't know."

"Well.. I'm told that night is more dangerous than day, and Daddy says you can't be too careful, especially at night," Lin replied.

To her that was good enough, and the last visit only confirmed that there were dangerous things out there.

"Ah, I see," Celebor nodded.

All Celebor knew of Aragost was the name, along with the fact that Sir Valdemar had disappeared out of the Southland for nearly two months when Lin had mentioned the name to him. Beyond that, he knew that he was a mysterious fighter who had been hired on here at the ranch, but that was it.

Haradhel looked as if she wanted to add something more, but a warning look from Aliya stopped her, and instead she changed the subject.

"So how has everyone at home been?" she asked cheerfully. "How is Elnara and her family?"

Arwen's eyes skimmed over the page, and she read quietly to herself first before looking back up at Miyu to give the translation (since of course it was in Elvish).

"It doesn't say a whole lot," she shrugged. "Just that she became a constellation to protect her family from the war. I think it must have been the first big one, the one that Elros and Sir Valdemar were in, because that's the only one I know of that was bad enough for people to have to do that."

"Ah," Celeborn smiled. "A new recruit. Well, I hope you're prepared for this, young Celebor, because it can be rather ... difficult."

He gave Donovan a look that, despite his carefree tone, read, Are you sure about this?

Adanedhel shrugged. "Mama and Papa say the same thing," he agreed, "but if I'm only out for a minute and I go right back inside then it's not a big deal. There haven't been any bad people here since the last time you were here, when Ara-kun got them."

"Oh!" Kara smiled brightly, she had remembered she did have something to tell them, "Elnara has another son, Shiro, as it turned out. Kaito wasn't alone on the street, he has a brother named Shiro, and it's so odd because he's the opposite of Kaito in a lot of ways."

Though it probably had to do something with Shiro's gift to remember what he was told once.

"Do you think Yami-san was in the war too?" Miyu asked.

Unlike Lin she had not realized how old Aragost was, he was an adult and that in itself was old enough.

Donovan seemed to be nodding absently at Celeborn's words, but he was also affirming that this was what Celebor was going to be doing. Normally he would have said he wasn't sure, but Celebor had spent a year away, he was technically two years old and for a Second that was quite old.

"I suppose...." Lin wasn't so sure, she at first thought no bad people like that came to the Ranch because of all the fighters and that turned out not to be the case.

Celebor nodded certainly. "I'll be fine," he said confidently. "I trained with the Home Guard in the Southland for over a year, and Captain Eldrin said I was equal with any of his graduates. I'll be fine."

Of course, Eldrin had said a lot more, but Celebor didn't see that as necessary to mention here. Mostly warnings and the like, and lectures on when and how to use his skills. In a case like this, though, he was certain that he would be justified in the use of his skills.

"Oh!" Haradhel exclaimed happily. "That's wonderful!" She laughed softly. "I'm sorry, I always get so excited when families grow again, whether naturally or by adoption. I think it's great that Kaito has someone like him to be with, help him learn to be more human."

Arwen thought about it for a moment, then nodded seriously. "Yes, I think so," she agreed. "He's really old, and I think Elros and Sir Valdemar knew him before then, so he must have been in it, because everyone who lived back then was it in somehow."

Or so she had been told.

Celeborn smiled then and nodded. "If Captain Eldrin is satisfied, then I must be as well," he announced solemnly. "Yes. I believe you will be fine."

At least until it came to his first kill.

"At any rate, I suppose we will be heading out first thing in the morning?" he questioned. "The two of you riding, and I'll be taking the cart, as usual?"

Aliya smiled as well, but there was something she was curious about.

"You said they were opposites," she commented to Kara. "What do you mean?"

Adanedhel grinned. "Don't worry," he giggled, "it'll be okay."

He stuffed the rest of his cookie in his mouth. "You wanna go find Elros? I'm gonna go find Ara-kun, maybe we can go together, I think they're both in their quarters."

"Shiro isn't feral like Kaito for starters," Kara mused thoughtfully, "I think it has to do with the fact Shiro is just gifted in learning. He remembers the first time as far as I can tell, though he has to be learning from someone previously, but I don't know who. I've guessed he must have been observing someone from a Japanese culture, because he's more inclined to use suffixes and family terms than the rest of us in the family, but also their wings are different, Shiro has bat wings."

She wasn't really sure about what to call Shiro here, Kara was aware demons here were different but Shiro wasn't even and demons weren't evil neither.

"Mi..... that must be very old," Miyu murmured.

She couldn't imagine anyone being that old even though people who were older than she could imagine were around her all the time every time she visited.
