*Synge was a little caught off guard by his smile, although she couldn't think of any reason why she should be. Nodding she decided she would sit, and quickly took the chair he had motioned towards. Her response was quick and muttered.*

Thanks...

*She realized it was clearly logical for him to be asking her these questions, and that she might has well answer them at least to some degree.*

Oh, right. Err...well, I live pretty far away, or I have lived, or did live. I don't live there anymore, and haven't really lived anywhere for a while. Unless you count this place. I went back to my original home when this closed down to, tend to some business. I came back, different, and with this patch. Most of which was thanks to the people at my home, including family. Things went a little different than I had planned I suppose. Events change people though, maybe it was for the best. You probably wouldn't believe it, but I used to be the hostess here, greeting customers with a friendly smile.

*Synge shrugs in response to his words.*

Family is strange. They were angry with me, I just thought it might have died down a little since I was gone for so long. Anyway, the eye was mostly an accident...mostly. I guess I kind of deserved what I got. It is hard to explain.

*She almost wants to smile as he talks, but it just doesn't come to her like it used to so often before.*

I don't think you can scare me off, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think I have anyone else to go.

*She raised an eyebrow at his allusion, not used to hearing about that kind of thing way out here.*

Uh...no, nothing like that. I've never been in love, and we don't have any feuds. We are actually more known for healing wounds rather than inflicting them...usually. I was surprised that I wasn't the only one in my family who had tried learning a little about fighting, and even more surprised when they proved to be much better. I don't mind much though. Like I said, I deserved it. My mom was killed, and it was my fault.

*After she had said it, she couldn't believe she had. Why would she tell him? She had never told anyone like this. Perhaps it was her changed personality talking. She rubbed her hand as if it was in pain for a moment before looking at him.*

Oh, yeah, I'll probably get a room.

*Ben's response made her realize that her new way of talking about this was making her look terrible. She coughed nervously and tried to explain, looking very embarrassed.*

How did I get myself into this? Ah, well, too late now. We were practicing together, and I tried to show off something new I had learned, something I was told to never try. It almost killed me, but she stopped it, and it killed her instead. I've never been forgiven, and when I tried to be I was turned away and hurt in the process. There's a lot more, but it isn't worth saying. I never meant for it to happen.

*She looked off to her right, as if seeing something, but not being surprised by it. She quickly turned back to you, wondering if you would even believe her.*

*She knew that her next answer was going to be even more difficult to believe, but she wasn't a liar. She was also starting to realize why she had never told this story before. It was the truth, and she hated hearing it.*

I don't remember. I was only a child. Seven years old. Like I said, we are healers. I was very advanced and my mother trained me daily, but I wanted to try even more advanced things. I was stupid and young. Trying to show to my mom that I was capable of being as amazing as her. It was supposed to be a good thing...

*She trailed off a bit, wondering if she should just leave.*

*Synge sighed with relief when he seemed to believe her story. She was getting very worried that her only place to stay would be taken away from her.*

Thank you. I know it is tough to trust me, but I'm glad you seem to. They were pretty upset, clearly. However, they were even more upset when I decided to turn away from healing forever, I never wanted to have anything to do with what killed my mother again. They had put a lot of hope in my skills, and I let them down by not being able to live up to their hopes. After a while their shame in me was too much, so I ran away. It wasn't really to pay me back, but to try and force me to use my skills to save myself. They failed and I left once again with my curse still over me.

Ben nods, stands up and heads over to the kitchen, he comes out a moment later with a key and the number 1 on it.
