who is this person we are all talking about? i must have missed the memo...

Honestly, I think that moment can be interpreted differently. I know; I've said that about pretty much every moment, but that's just how I feel. You may or may not have read GreenifyME's essay on DeviantArt, but in it she says something about that episode I agree whole-heartedly with. Katara is very close to Aang, and she's used to being the center of his attention. Suddenly, he's focusing all his attention on someone else, and she worries about them growing apart.

Then again, this is just a matter of opinion and different views.

Okay, maybe things changing in one episode is a bit of a longshot. However, I still believe her feelings for him could change drastically. She'll be around him constantly for the next few episodes, which will give her a chance to see the different sides of him. I believe that she'd gradually begin to warm up to him, and then something (I'm not sure what) would happen to trigger her total forgiveness and acceptance of him. From there things would only improve.

Katara is willing to kill for Aang now because his dying has shown to her how easily she can lose him. Before, it probably seemed impossible, something that would never happen. Add on to that the fact that Zuko has done nothing but try and harm Aang, and you have a a death threat.

As Iroh said, people don't choose when and where they make a life or fall in love - it just happens. What would make Zuko a jerk is if he went out looking for someone else to be with. Plus, even if he did develop feelings for Katara, I don't think he'd jump into a relationship right away - they have other things to focus on first. And who says they have to be madly in love by the end of the show? I'd be happy if there was just the subtle hint of them developing feelings for each other in the last episode.

Avatar is full of twist and turns. Anything could happen. That's a fact of the show.

Ok, that's not a fair interpretation. That's the intereptation of someone who's not taking the moment for what it is. I've read Greeny's essays and they are all HEAVILY biased. More so than I've ever been. I've been rational. She's been a wishful thinker.

Katara is not IN LOVE with Aang yet. So no, she wouldn't be jumping him when he kissed her. And be all excited. She's still confused and un-sure. She was SAD he was leaving. She leaned into the kiss, closed her eyes and was still into it when he was done. She blushed and watched him leave. But he was leaving to WAR and she KNEW it. She's not going to be selfish and be all "omg I've wanted to tell you I have a crush on you all this time!" It's not in her character and it NEVER HAS BEEN. She's at the stage of liking him that he was in during Book 2. The crushy, blushy kind. Aang has come to terms with his feelings and he's confident in them. He knows he's in love with her. He's not awkward about it. Not like Katara is anyway. Remember, Katara is a kid too.

In "The Headband" Sokka said, SPECIFICALLY, "THEY look good together" and Katara said, with jealousy "eh, if that's what you like." It's RIDICULOUS to take that as her being jealous of him getting attention from other people. Because he had the WHOLE ROOM of people with their attention. It was his attention with that GIRL. A girl he "looked good with" and was enjoying his company romantically that made her jealous. To not take that for what it is only proves that Zutarians are ignoring this VITAL clue into Katara's feelings. It goes further in depth when Aang asks her to dance. She's sitting there, bummed out. He asks her to dance. She fumbles, plays with her hair, acts nervous. He tells her confidently "take my hand" She smiles brightly. "OK!" She WANTED to dance with him. She was acting like she didn't because she was nervous. This isn't rocket science. There should be no confusion in that scene. She wanted to. It's CLASSIC. There is no other way to see this unless you were just ignoring the scene because you don't want to see it. They begin to dance, people are watching, she doesn't like the attention on them sharing this moment. He tells her "don't worry about the, it's just you and me right now"....it's just THEM. She BLUSHES and then gives him a look that NO MOTHER FIGURE EVER gives a "SON". She LIKES HIM. He's taking control, being sauve. Being all the things she likes in a guy, if Jet proved anything. Commanding a room, being confident, being charasmatic. Aang is IT in that moment and she LIKES IT, and EVERYTHING in that episode PROVES she likes him. To say she was jealous that he was getting attention from others is ridiculous. He gets attention from other people all the time. Maybe in Warriors of Kyoshi she was jealous of the attention his FANS were giving him, afterall, she is an Avatar fangirl, and he was being a jerk about it, but this was the attention of a girl who liked him. And it made her jealous. She wasn't jealous of the room or kids fawning over him. JUST THAT GIRL.

Her essay was biased, in a way meant to brainwash people into seeing a view that ignores actual evidence. This is the same mentality that when Mai glared at Azula in the Headband, it meant she was in league with her, when in fact, it was AGAINST Azula. She knows she's up to something, and it foreshadows Mai's eventual betrayal towards Azula. Not against Zuko.
