I'm surprised that people from other countries can understand the ACCENT actually... innit? Lol...
Hehe. Well, in our family at least, we're pretty good at understanding accents. Even really convoluted ones; it might take a few repetitions but we'll eventually get it.

We also have a tendency to slip in and out of different accents. xd But I suppose I'm getting off-subject.

Hehe. The guild probably still would have existed even if you had lost your RD obsession, of course, since Ana made it. But it would certainly be a lot less interesting... and someone else would have inherited it!

*slaps self* Of course, Ana made it! redface Sorry there... but I'm quite flattered about the "less interesting" comment! 3nodding biggrin Lol!

About a few years ago I was flipping through the channels and I found BBC America. "OOH!", I said. "'Monty Python's Flying Circus'! And what's this? 'Father Ted'? This is the funniest s**t I have ever seen!" I started watching it all the time. But then, one fateful night at 1:00 in the morning, I found a strange, old looking show. A dorky looking man that looked like he was just forced to eat a lemon was yelling at this laid back kind of a guy eating/drinking this horrible concoction. "I shall try this out", I thought. And I wasn't able to get over it. I watched it every Monday night through Thursday night. Oh, how I adored Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten and all their zany antics. But then...oh, a sad day for us all...BBC discontinued "Monty Python', 'Father Ted'...and our beloved 'Red Dwarf'. I was saddened. But o'...Suncoast...my best friend...had all the seasons on DVD. I'm up to 4, I just need 5-8 to be complete.

And that, dear readers, is more than what was asked for. xp

A cookie called Bob
I've been watching it since it came out here in Britain. Those were the days. xd

Indeed. The scary thing is meeting fans who were too young to remember that whole Craig Charles court case in 1994, which caused the huge gap between seasons six and seven. sweatdrop

I confess that the first episode I actually watched was Backwards, though. I caught up with the earlier episodes later.

Yeah, a friend told me about it in college several years ago after I coerced HIM to read Hitchhiker's Guide... he told me RD was right up my alley. I never caught it on PBS cause it was always on at some ungodly hour so I finally discovered the show about a year ago thank s to Netflix. When 6+7 are released, I'll be owning the box set. Muahaha. twisted

Heh.

Back in high school (which was around the mid 90s) I had some project I had to stay up late to work on, and I was flipping through the four channels we got (never had cable) and found Red Dwarf on PBS

I clearly remember that first episode I ever saw was Polymorph.

I came back for more.

If only BBC America would bring it back again! That and Father Ted.

Yeah! That'd be great! Although now that we have them all on dvd, it doesn't really matter as much as if we didn't.

Not only that. But, you can throw mini-RD marathons with your friends.

I haven't posted in this thread.......how weird....

Anyway, I grew up watching it. I remember watching it when I was tiny with my older brothers, who understood some of the jokes that went over my lil head, but I loved it anyway xd
It's always going to be in my life, and smeg with always be in my vocab box. I say it at college quite a lot, and because I'm 2 years older than most of them, they're like "huh?" blaugh
I was lucky in the fact that I was born the year it first aired, so it was always a constant thing in my life

I was 9 when I first saw Red Dwarf. I came downstairs to get a drink and I heard my Dad laughing, so, being the nosy little smegger I was back then, I stuck my head round the door to see the scene in Legion where they first arrive and the Cat senses something. I sat down and watched it, but got sent to bed straight after (it was a school night! Thursday...).

I was 4 when the series started, but I was always in bed when it was on up until that fateful night.

I just realized I didn't answer my own question. xd

I started watching it when my dad got me hooked on British Comedy. I live in America and don't get to watch good TV. Most of the American stuff (except LOST) is crap. But my dad's always had As Time goes By and Keeping up Appearances on every Saturday night on our PBS station. Up until I was about 12 I just thought they were stupid shows, but then my dad actually had me sit down and watch them. I loved them right away. The humor's great, the acting wonderful and they actually have plots!

So I sat in front of the TV that Saturday night copletely amazed. I watched the two mentioned above and then The Vicar of Dibley, Black Adder, Murder Most Horrid (I'm a huge Dawn French fan), Mr. Beane and then, all of our favorite's Red Dwarf. It was late at night, almost 11 ( I was 13) and I had ro beg my dad to watch it, but he finally let me and then it turned into a regular thing. I never missed an episode. That is, untl PBS pulled it off the air. Boy was I ticked. But I'm not going to get into that.

So that's my story on how I found Red Dwarf. Hope it's not too long.

MY GAWD keeping up appearances??? god i hate that show theres no plot there!!! however the acting is good on it you cant deny it, and patricia routledge is quite respected. but nooooooo!" mr bean
I HATE HIM!!!
but otherwise thats a nice story!
similarly, my dad prob introduced me to it when i was small, i dont really remember, but i do remember staying up "late" with my then best mate as a kid, and it was the young ones followed by rd. this was many many moons ago when it was new (!) and we used to have sweets to eat while watching them i remember.
then it was constant from about 1990/1 onwards, staying at mine and my friends house next door, always watching it, about every 2yrs we had to give it a break for a couple of months, and there were some from particular videos we couldnt watch anymore because we'd overdone it.

this tradition carried on even until we were coming home from all nighters with randoms from clubs and coming down to the same old videos. Eventually, about 1999, we just stopped, had a big break, and its a special occasion to watch it now.

anyway you prob didnt want the life story but hey

heres some old (slightly crappy but good) british shows you should give a go in my opinion:
