Switchblade Saint Its adorable ^_^ i have the 50th anniversery edition. My friend had never seen it, so we watced it the other day she got really into it. When they trapped him in the room in Jim's house she was yelling "NO NO THATS NOT FAIR THATS NOT FAIIIIR!" Ok, why am I the first person to point out that there's no way this movie is 50 years old and that theres no way there's a 50th anniversary edition? confused
Anyway...its been a bit since I've seen the movie so I can't remember--why exactly did Edward have scissors for hands? Why not start out with normal ones?

DJ LAZA Discuss the 1990 movie Edward Scissorhands here. Share pictures, share ideas, have conversations, etc.. pertaining to this film. Really beautiful movie, though sad. I love the scene where Winona is almost dancing between the snowflakes. Or the scenes where Edward is creating all those extravagant haircuts and shapes.
And I've always found sad that people weren't able to take Edward for what he really was. Look into his heart, not at his appearance.

Depp is only 42 or 43 at the current moment I can't remember he started with as a robot basically.. he was invented... he learned as he got human parts, it shows this when he's finding something funny that the professor reads to him

Thank you zainycat. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who noticed.
But back to my question, why didn't he just give him hands to begin with instead of scissors? I kinda see what your saying zainycat, about starting off as a robot, but a robot with scissorhands? Kinda...odd...lol

Because he was focused on other things - like for Edward to have emotions etc. If I recall it right.

oooh... I think I never watch/forgot the opening of the story! >< I just watched it last few years and it started at the middle!
I didn't know he was focused on Edward's emotions! D: I just know that he wanted to make Edward a pair of hands and eventually died before making it D:

hehehe so crazy old guy who can't remember one day from the next puts together a robot, focuses on his emotion, and forgets to give him hands, so he says screw it, have scissors, and maybe you can help build or cut things lol. I think I should write something about that! rofl

Not sure he was crazy. He just wanted to 'build' a human being and he was a perfectionist, so it took time for him to 'build' him correctly (so he looked like a real boy) and before he could finish him, he died, so he couldn't give him the hands he had for him as a 'B-day' gift (if I remember it right).
