"Well my arrival is generally quite impossible to miss," Iris countered easily, raising her brightly feathered wing as if to demonstrate just why. "It's not my fault you weren't paying attention. And besides, if a conversation is private, it shouldn't be had in a public space." Then, done with Yakira for the moment, she flashed Kitrio another smile. "I am glad that he has decided to behave himself for the afternoon. He so rarely does."
Makani sniffed, "It's not my fault that the lot of you drive me crazy. Always poking around my cave and setting me on babysitting duty. I'm not here to watch the chicks and be pestered by you and bloody Koda."
"Aaw, Makani, you're so very put upon," the female teased. "We just make your life so miserable."
The male merely frowned at her sourly and ruffled up his feathers.

"Um... ok?" he said trying to be just as quiet as Kira. What was she trying to tell him? Or was she telling him anything, maybe he mistook her glance and she was simply talking to herself. Kit was just getting more confused by the minute, but knew if he tried to get an answer to Iris' question after Kira's response then he'd likely just upset her more. Maybe another time?
He suppressed most of a chuckle. "Babysitting?" He couldn't quite picture Makani as a babysitter, but then he had been helpful in answering his questions, maybe he softened toward the un-schooled. Mention of Koda gave him an idea to turn the subject to something he hoped wouldn't get everyone's feathers ruffled.
"Has Koda said anything about when we'd leave tomorrow?" He looked at Iris.

Faria nodded at Iris' inquiry about Makani helping them get adjusted. She didn't need too much accustomization on getting used to being around a colony. She hadn't been on her own all that long. Faria smiled and gave a short, soft chuckle at Makani's words and brushed her flight feathers in his direction in an 'Oh, you' sort of fashion.
The black and green female felt the tenseness in the atmosphere. With a sigh, she folded her wings in front of her close to her body. There was definitely tension between Iris and Yakira. Makani wasn't pleased about being teased and Faria got the impression Kit was a little confused. She began to quietly hum one of the songs her mother used to sing to her when she was little. She remembered it clearly and she hoped it may take away some of the heavy feeling about.

"We make him look after Lono from time to time, our youngest male. Just a little thing." Iris held a feathered wing out to demonstrate. "And we'll be leaving when the snow lets up, which it will have hopefully done by tommorow. I think you'll find that colony life suits you Kitrio, even if only as a place to stop off now and then."
Makani meanwhile cheered at Faria's chuckle. He didn't mind Iris, but Faria didn't pester him on a regular basis. Or at least she never had. Though, he had to admit, it did make things far less interesting. Inwardly, he groaned. Well, things were going to be more than just interesting soon.

Kit nodded in a bobbing sort of way. "I hope so too," he replied. "Er... Is the colony far from here?" He felt like he was struggling to make conversation... was Kira alright? She hadn't spoken since her exchange of somewhat scathing comments with Iris.

Yakira felt distant from the whole conversation around her. Yet she pushed that feeling aside and tried to pay more attention to what the others around her and what they were talking about. But her eyes opened in a slight surprise to hear a humming coming from the black and green harpy.
It did take a small soothing effect on Yakira and she quickly half-smiled to Faria and nodded her head in a silent thank you. But even now the white harpy didn't really know if she should say anything...so she kept quiet and listened with attentive eyes.

"It's about two hour's flight," Iris explained. "A bit of a long way, but you'll be given plenty of time for rest and relaxation once we get there and the Mother has had a look at you. She will be pleased to see another male. You see, the colony has grown lately, but unfortunately the number of males hasn't really grown along with it. So tell me Kitrio, whereabouts are you from exactly?"

"From? Oh... well," he hadn't come up with what he would say about Azure... although, from what Makani said it wasn't likely that the others would hold anything against him being raised by a centaur. And what about their take on humans? Would they get angry to know that woman had taken him from a nest?
"I uh.. I've been all over the Isle really, w- I never stayed in one place for too long..."

“So you never really lived too long in the same area then? But to travel like that! I've always stayed in one spot most of my life..." Interrupted Yakira who had noticed Kit’s discomfort at the subject. ‘I wonder why he’s so uncomfortable…oh! He was raised by a centaur…so that ties in with where he’s from.’ Feeling somewhat dumb for not thinking quicker, but she at least now remembered that he probably didn’t know how they would take him being raised by a centaur. Now that she thought about it…she was in the same confusion as Kit. How would they take a centaur raising a harpy?
Trying her best to change the subject for his sake, Yakira blinked and focused on the group and thought quickly, “I wonder how long this snow storm will last?” In her mind she shrugged, ‘It was the best I could think of at the moment.’

He was a bit slow to notice, but e finally heard the soothing hum coming from... oh, what was the dark one's name? Fara? He watched her for a while, curious. He hadn't heard humming like that since he'd been newly hatched and ill for a while. And he'd gotten Azure sick too. Though the melody had been different, the intent seemed to be the same. To calm. To soothe.
Curiosity got the best of him. "Does that... have any words?" he asked. He wanted to ask so much more. Is it a common song for harpies? Do we have common songs? What do we like to sing about? A thought occured to him. Hopefully not about eggs all the time.

Though the chatter and across the room Koda could hear the soft strains of the hummed tune, and so when she caught the tail end of Kit's question she started singing. It was a fairly popular tune, though parts varied from colony to colony. It was about a young huntress falling in love for the first time with a hunting mate. The song had many verses but the most popular, and the most likely for the other girls to join in on, was the verse where the huntress noticed her future lover for the first time and fell in love at first sight.
The tune, as Koda knew it, was a slight bit faster then the one Faria was humming, but she hoped the other girl would take the hint and speed it up a notch when she heard the song starting.

Faria caught Yakira's smile and appreciative nod. She returned with a nod and a smile of her own. She was listening to the conversation that was being held. If she was addressed or had an opinion to throw into the mix, she would speak up. The black and green female also kept an ear on the rest of the group. She picked up on Koda's humming the popular tune and turned her head towards her.
Faria got the message. With a little grin, she picked up her beat to match Koda's. She knew several versions of the same some, most with different tempos, so she had an idea of what the other was doing.

Kit listened with renewed interest. Here he thought they were just a bunch of egg-hungry women with no notion of how love played into it all. But still... was he expected to love every woman he "gave" eggs to? It seemed difficult to wrap his mind around a society that didn't prescribe to the "one man, one woman" idea he'd been brought up with.

Koda could carry a tune, but by harpy standards her voice was not outstanding. Liadan hadn't caught the snippets of conversation that had promoted the song but it was one she enjoyed so as soon as she knew where Koda had started she joined in. Her voice was a fair bit stronger, though she still lacked the experience to make the tune dance.
((And I wish I had the time or skill to try and write some lyrics but I suck at that kinda thing. xD*))

For the moment, Iris abandons conversation as well, picking up the tune and singing along. Her voice was higher than either Koda or Liandrin's, and it made for a nice harmony, even if it wasn't a very polished one.
And even the normally sour-faced Makani, who seems to be in a more pleasant mood this evening, takes his part, his voice a pleasant bass amidst the treble of the females' chorus. It was a far cry from the previous bickering.
