One of the characters I have that began as a self-insert and took on a life of her own is Lady Mystia D'Argent. I use her in all sorts of times and places, but she tends to keep a Renaissance feel, so I don't think I shall be using her in any Steampunk RPs. Inputting Soon Yaelsdaughter (a different character of mine that started as a much vaguer self-insert than Mystia Argent) into the Brass Goggles generator gave me the name Dinah Kettell, which I rather like.
Inputting Mystia and asking for a male name gave me Zachariah Bacon or Zachariah Ward depending on whether or not the "D'" was there. I'll keep pondering the question.

I go by Barnaby Wickham when the need arises. And I have just now signed up for the BG Forums actually, though I've read the blog for a while. It's good stuff. I suppose I will grow more attached to the name as I get more into the Steampunk Community.

i have two. one isnt really steampunk, but is the inspiration for the name of my airship (which i hope to someday build!)
Steampunk-ish name (also my Second Life name) = Calvyn Garrigus
Non-steampunk name = Blake Riptide (sounds more like a surfer!)
::EDIT:: after messing about with the steampunk name generator on brass goggles, i have come up with another steampunky name; Captain Michael Gifford, of the HMS Riptide.

[[ current mood :: neutral ]] Generally, I'd use one of my characters to dress as. As of right now, I enjoy being Lex. Lex isn't very fleshed out at the moment, though, so I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing with him. (Him, another thing I'm debating. I use male pronouns in reference, but I portray him as genderless. I'm going to leave it a mystery as to whether he has any private parts at all. xd ) [[ current song :: none ]]

Different from my real name, certainly. Different from most names I use on the rest of the Internet? No, not really.
My real name is Anne, but I find that incredibly boring, and it doesn't suit me at all. I started calling myself Anita (online) when I was in 7th grade, and now that I'm 20 years old, I still call myself Anita and wish to change my real name to it. So, most places know me as Anita. Or whatever screen name I have, which seems inescapable, as even when I introduce myself as Anita, everyone on Gaia ends up calling me Jenny.
That said, the name I use in the steampunk world is Lady Pirate Anita.

I haven't had the pleasure of joining or meeting up with such people yet.
But if I were to go by an alias: Brooke
There's a little truth to it, actually, but that's a boring story.

Captain Drew O'Murchadha(Pronounced O-mer-a-cu or more commonly known as 'Murphy' but the gaelic version sounds better) of The Stormshatterer at your service. The Drew Zoe Zoe username is the sci-fi equivalent of the character in one of my stories. razz As is the name above, although neither character is alike.

Lieutenant General Ezra Addle at your service madam.
Created after an unfortunate incident when a normal 21st century man fell into the steampunk name generator on the Brass Goggles forum (the title usually vanishes so I'm just Ezra Addle most of the time).
