Starfruit_me Oh my...I looked at the picstures and I must say, some of them are slightly scary looking. Iteresting, but scary. They look like the preppy kids at my school in the summer time. Haha, there was a girl I used to go to school with that was philipino but would still tan... to the point where she could pass for african american (beyond milato) had it not been for the asian appearance of her eyes. The best part is that she does her make-up very similar to ganguro girls and dressed preppy as well. If she didn't tan so much she'd be a perfect example.

I really don't like it. It reminds me of where I live during the summer time! Scary blonde girls with too much bronzer.

Brenli That's quite cute; it's a very basic ganguro gyaru look, not overdone at all. I went manba for Halloween of 2005. And just for the Hell of it, here are the boots I wore to complete the outfit. It was fun; I can't tell you how many weird stares I got. Omg that's such an awesome idea! :O I'm gonna be that for halloween this year!!!! xd

It interesting because I was just informed that the anime con I'm helping out with what me to be in charge of Japanese fashions. I was like I dress lolita, I can do that but there are other things like visual kei, decora, and ganguru that are part of their culture as well. It might be interesting to get dressed up in this though. Basically they want me to gather volunteers to walk around modeling different aspects of the japanese fashion, not realizing of course how expensive that could get. I'm still figuring out how to make it work.

Technicaly, I could pull that look of if I bleaches my hair. I have very naturaly tan skin unfortunatly. I'm always trying to keep it out of the sun. mad

For some reason, the more I look at this fashion, the more it draws me in. It's spooky but somewhat cute. ...hm.

XD I think it has that effect on some people, yes. It has the effect on me. I don't think I would ever be some kind of full-time ganguro girl, but sometimes it's just so tempting to have a ganguro day, or something.

I don't personally like the style of ganguro, because I'm around it everyday, but I really respect the ganguro's in Japan. You see they are the ultimate rebels. They are going against the Japanese ideal of a women completly, and I respect them for that. But I dislike the fakeness, the orangy tan, the bleached blonde hair. It all seems very cheesy...

Plutokat SO I ask...what do you think of the trend of being a ganguro? 'Tis interesting though not for me. Most of the girls at my school go tanning so they all look kinda dark like now and a few of them have light skin, so it looks sorta familiar (minus the white makeup and such)

I think it's an okay style. It's nothing I'd wear though. I do like how frisky and fresh it looks though! ^^

I love Ganguro, but never as much as Lolita. It would be nice to dress up like that but the hassle of trying to dress up as a Ganguro is really kinda big-ish. I'm surprised that it started because of Namie Amuro. It seems like an almost opposite fashion to Lolita. I even heard somewhere that Ganguro caused Lolita.

I think... Lolita is a little safer than Ganguro. ^^;; I mean, how much time do you think you'd have to lay out on a tanning bed to attain that level of darkness? Those poor girls are going to have elephant-skin by the time they're twenty-five. I suppose the look is unique, though. I respect them for that. However, it sort of reminds me of the way all the preppie popular girls at my school look... they used to make fun of me so bad.. ;_; So... I guess I don't like Ganguro that much. ^^;
