Takeshi, not wanting to rely on use of a spell he had not yet mastered, called the fire symbol into his mind.
With a deafening blast, the knife was blown away, coming to a stop in the wall, blade quivering.
Takeshi stared at it for a moment. He then looked down at the smoking hole in his pants.
"Well now. You okay, kid?" he asked. Closer inspection would show the only injury to him was where his (burning hot) pants had singed his skin.

Joe yawned. "That was pretty sweet. Would anyone care to throw something at me, so I can test out the new spell? Something NOT deadly?" He glared at Takeshi.

"How 'bout a squirrel?" Siber, his face paling a little with the continued efforts, called the rodent back into being. Exuding an air of playfulness to the creature, he bounced it up and down in his hand, it landed on his head, he snatched it off, and then threw it in a beeline for Joe. Keldan was trying very hard not to laugh at the projectile squirrel.

Joe watched the squirrel hopping around with a grin, then barely managed to summon up the shield in time because of his laughter. "Okay, let's do that again...I want to do a serious one."
I got it, don't worry. We'll do fine if Legion helps us speed our training.

"Seems like now would be a rather good time to leave," Paul commented, whipping his Glock 26 from his person. Apparently they'd been satisfied that he wasn't going to resist, as its magazine still contained the enchanted rounds. "Where to?"

"Sorry about that- I had to." Siber picked up a fist size chunk of debris from the ground and lobbed it in Joe's general direction. He had never been a very good shot- no matter what he did or where he aimed, everything veered off to the left. Or right, really, depending on nothing in particular.

The shot drifted off to the side. Hey, I wonder...
Joe didn't bother responding. Instead, he focused his concentration, then formed the cone of air that was a shield. However, he turned so that the debris was going to fly past him. He pushed the cone forward, hard, and smiled as the debris shattered. Hmm...defense AND offense. I like that.
Cool. Let's do some more stuff. What else can I use that fire spell for... Joe sat down against the wall and began to think of new applications for his spells.

((Sorry about the delay, everyone. I'll try very hard not to do that again.))
Erik had been quietly watching the others and listening to Tomas. A burning symbol appeared in Erik's mind.
Erik stepped forward and, while holding the symbol and the command firmly in his mind, called to the firebat. His hand seemed to combust as a small, batlike creature wreathed in flame screeched forward at impossible speed to meet the target.

"Well, our first order of business will be establishing more fall-back bases and getting you guys equipped with magic ability," Alan said. "What spells can you cast so far? And I mean, directly, not with the soul helping you. The soul will take up too much of your power if they're the only one with the magic. It'll put you out with only a couple strong spells." He looked around expectantly.
"None..." Linda said quietly.

"I haven't been trained any by my soul, either," Paul responded, already having instinctively taken cover behind a short wall in the room. Obviously, however, whatever had shot the girl, he wasn't gonna be able to see it through a blind, and it was unlikely he'd be able to hit it at this range with the midget pistol he was carrying. He couldn't remember if he'd brought his 1911, either. Hrm. This may require a new firearm.
If I've got the cash, a carbine would be fantastic.

Siber jumped as the bat-outta-hell went screeching across the room to immolate itself in a target.
He sat down against a wall and stretched, watching the others progress steadily. Joe seemed to be a good person to get to know, given how fast he was moving; Takeshi would be a source of entertainment, if a danger; and this new guy certainly seemed to know what he was about. He yawned.

Erik took a minute to memorize all the minute detail in the symbol. Then he collected himself and summoned. Before him appeared what was essentially a large rock. It unfolded squat legs from beneath itself and lifted its bulk a couple of inches off the ground. It then stood motionless, apparently waiting for orders.

The door cracks open, and Legion states loudly and clearly:
"Tomorrow, we're making an attack on a Hunter base with the intent on bringing in a couple of other Warlocks whom they captured. A third Warlock was eliminated by a sniper. I've prepared concealment devices - watches that will dull your Warlock soul's signature to their detection methods. You are not to leave a hideout without one. They'll be left in lockers for each of you in front of the door. They're labeled with your name, and unlocked by projecting your desire to retrieve something in it. There are identical linked ones in each of our bases, and whatever you put in any one of them will be available to recall at any point you are at any of them, not just the one you physically put it in. Take care of any business you need to. You have the night. We strike at noon."
The door shut behind him.
~~
"Well, we'll have to fix that, won't we?" Josh said. "Alan will cover your learning - I have no skill in Warlock techniques, merely Channeling. I'm going out to scout." He drew large gloves over his gauntlets and donned a jacket with long sleeves to finish concealing their presence.

Siber stood up and made a last assessment of the room. A good stage. Good actors. Valuable information. However, he was, as has already been stated, scarce one set of luggage, and therefore had to leave. He made polite goodbyes, grabbed his little concealment charm from a locker, and then got his stuff from the airport. He checked into his hotel early and messed around for a while, then decided to go ahead and go back to the hideout, to see if he could collect cell phone numbers. Because that would be useful, indeed.

The man had a good idea, they needed to see what was going on outside, but... "Do we really have time to have someone go looking? If they've realized we're here, they might move in for the kill; it's what I'd do if I had the resources." He paused. "Who are these people, anyway? What are they trying to do?"
