Thalian gave a single nod of his sharp chin by way of indication he had heard Shtona at all. His narrowed gaze flicked to Nettle, the glittering gray eyes calculating. Glancing at the others, the elf decided it was probably best to get into the good graces of such powerful players, perhaps tag along. He was no newbie himself, after all, and perhaps they needed a mage? Of course, being with a group had the added bonus of extra protection should the Nihilus government decide to track him down once more with their smelly, greenish mutts. A smile twitched itself onto his lips once again.

"Nettle, is it? Lovely name. Nice and nature-oriented. Very crisp. I was just conversing rather genially with your cohort here, who saved my pretty little hide not moments ago. As... I'm sure you witnessed for yourself." He waved a pale hand, as if such a revelation hardly pertained to the matter at hand. "I'm wondering, Nettle--may I call you Nettle?--, would you perchance be the leader of this little team?"

An arrow arched just between them rather suddenly, right beside Nettle's dark-haired head. Thalian jumped, whipping his head around towards the source. Spreading his thin hands in the air, he muttered rather swiftly under his breath, the words dark and long ago dead. Something, that strange, twisting something, curved the air in a spherical shape around him and, consequently, the two others. Anything directed at the hazily shimmering surface would bounce violently back to it's owner... or anywhere, really, depending on how it hit the shield. The trajectory of deadly spells or weaponry when deflected was hardly a concern of Thalian's, however. Clearly, this was not his most fortunate of days, what with the imminent threat of death that seemed to be clinging to him like a child to it's toy.

The sting of nearby magic nestled into his awareness, and he cocked his head, arms still raised. An abrupt stillness fell over him and he stood, unmoving. He could taste it, like ozone there at the back of his throat. Squinting, he attempted to determine where the attacker had gone; surely whoever it was couldn't have run off so quickly. An invisibility spell, then, most like. It felt cheap to him, like it was a farce, his fingertips lacking in the tingle they experienced when facing another true magic user.

[I'm really sorry guys. I didn't tell any of you that I was heading off to college a week ago and probably wouldn't be able to post much. Anyway, that's why I've been gone and now I'm back.

Now for some administration stuff. In reading through the posts, I've been noticing several errors that do not comply with the rules. Many of the posts before Thalian's entrance were very short. Not that I expect you all to post volumes of information or anything, but, Krahken especially, one-liners are unacceptable under any circumstances. I don't care if you have to make a disgustingly detailed description of the wind around your character's face, I need a good paragraph. This is an advanced RP and I expect you to rise to the challenge.

Secondly, grammatical errors are also unacceptable. You MUST spell check and read through your posts before submitting them. The preview button is an excellent resource for this function. Make sure everything is punctuated and capitalized as it should be. If there are any problems with this requirement, please pm me and we will discuss it.

This is the first warning to those of you that fall into the above examples of offenders. I will not take any action against members of this thread until I have to remind any one of you individually three times to clean it up. In the event of an individual reminder, you will receive a pm from me indicating that you are now being watched and have officially had your first "real" warning.

Enough admin stuff, I trust that you will all watch your posts more carefully from now on.]

Katriel followed the group she'd just been added to silently. She looked behind her to make sure that Yuhi was coming along as well. After she'd gone to all that trouble to go and find him in the real world she wasn't about to lose him in Ryoku. Her mismatched eyes focused on the one called Shtona as he spoke about the beasts they could probably defeat as a team just outside the city walls. It seemed like a pretty decent plan. Katriel thought perhaps this team thing wouldn't be such a problem after all.

Katriel drifted into her thoughts, her mind clouding with the bliss of being in Ryoku rather than her real life. She could feel the wind on her face and saw the grass rippling just outside the gates of the town. It was invigorating. She couldn't wait to get into a real battle. Even though she was a cleric and mostly served as the healer for any party she would join, she still loved the thrill of defeating an evil creature that threatened to do her harm. She smiled unknowingly as the group crossed the threshold of the town's gate.

Suddenly, she saw Shtona take off at a run and attack a hulking green beast that loomed in front of them. She bit her lip in anticipation, choosing to hang back and sit out of this particular battle. The feathers of her wings fluttered in the wind as she watched Shtona and the unseen elf providing magical assistance take down the beast. She rushed forward, noticing the frail man who was now getting up from the ground.

Her heart returned to it's normal pace as they began to exchange genial conversation amongst themselves. "Nettle isn't the party leader. I believe...Kai, is it?" She turned to the fighter, her blue eye in particular focusing on him. "Oh! And I'm Katriel, the healer of the party. If you have any wounds, please let me know, I would be happy to heal you." She offered Thalian a sweet little smile and extended her hand to him.

( Oh, is Krahken's attack post being ignored? If so, I'll re-write my post. )

Cobalt looked down upon their confusion. Interesting how one of them was listening for him, waiting for him to make the next move. He would have to reveal himself soon, the spell doesn't last forever, he couldn't attack them all at once because he would be overwhelmed immediately. He slowly drew 3 arrows making sure he didn't make a sound, the next part would be tricky as the aura would give away his position, he knocked all 3 arrows and pulled back. He placed some magicka into the arrows making them glow green. He released the string all 3 arrows flying through the air but he was not aiming for them. The arrows struck the floor below them and exploded. He used this distraction to find a new hiding place among the rocks to his right. He jumped down from the tree, the chameleon spell wore off at that moment, then he dashed to the rocks hoping he was not seen.

Shtona

PostPosted: Fri Aug 24, 2007 3:01 pm

Shtona whipped around at the thunk of the arrow hitting the ground. There was no one ahead of us on the path, or behind us. They must've come from the forest as well...He scanned the trees, his eyes flitting back and forth from branch to branch, searching out the attacker. However, he had started noticing his vision was being obscured by something. Something thin, transparent, and obviously magical. He turned back to the elf, about to ask what he was doing, but stopped when he saw how hard he was concentrating. Must've sensed something...

Turning to follow the elf's gaze, he realized how ridiculous he must look turning this way and that, looking for the invisible attacker. For anyone who walked up at this moment, they would probably think him mad. Or maybe, if they had a sense of humor, they'd think him possessed by a dog with an urge to chase his tail. And as that thought passed through his mind, three more arrows landed just outside of the magical barrier, erupting in massive balls of flame. He threw his hands up out of reflex, clenching his hands into fists and squeezing his eyes shut as tight as they could be. Nothing came though. He stayed unharmed and safe. The only thing that had changed was the amount of adrenaline being pumped into his veins.

(Late for work, gotta go.)

Kai laughed at Shtona's mad search.
"This isn't a PVP area, what are you going crazy for? I'm not going to worry about it," he said, chuckling.
He noticed Katriel mention his name to Thalian and so he gave a slight wave, and a "Hello."
He silently sent Thalian a group invite and then scanned around the area looking for monsters. He decided he should get some quick kills in by himself to get going, since everyone else seemed to enjoy doing nothing so much more.

Hmmm Cobalt thought to himself as he realized it was a PvM area and he had two choices now. One he could reveal himself and recieve any slander sent at him. Two he could hide in his current spot until they moved on. He contemplated with forsight to predict what might happen in each choice. Both were dismal but he would chose one because two would be boring. He stood up from his hiding place and raised his bow in the air in a sign of surrender and a nervous grin on his face.

Within the confusion, Thalian spotted a movement; something delving into the cover of an outcropping of rocks. Likely it was a purchased spell of some form, if it had worn of so quickly. They weren't known for effectiveness, and really you never knew what you'd get from those (often questionable) street merchants. He knew of an instance wherein a man had purchased what he thought to be a spell that would call gold to him, but instead it just turned him into a pig-like creature. The fact that Thalian had crafted the spell itself held no little amount of humour.

Ignoring the greeting sent to him, the elf lowered the shield upon seeing the motion of surrender... and swiftly conjured something sparking with ill-intent that shot out to their would-be attacker. ( He had been tricked, once, with a claim of surrender. People are safer to be around when they're dead. ) It stopped mid-air, red and sparkling and writhing. As it fizzled to nothingness, Thalian remembered that one of the few places that had dictated PvP places was Nihilus. Regnox, he recalled with a soft sigh of almost-longing, had no such restrictive predilections.

He crossed his thin arms, looking mildly displeased. As much as he hated the idea of dying, Thalian rather enjoyed fighting against others. He accepted the group offer, wondering quietly if he'd eventually regret it and rather risk himself outside the group than in.

He threw an embarrassed look at Kai, internaly beating himself up for his own stupidity. Player vs. Player areas were usually loaded with higher level players slaughtering foes one after the other. Most of the time large groups would form just for the sake of fighting each other to the death; and he'd seen none of that on the path beforehand. He was simply surprised and acted out of reflex, his heightened sense of danger fueled by the adrenaline that was injected into his veins, and was stilling passing through his system.

When he saw a man stand from behind a large outcropping of rocks further up the road, he stood still, watching as he raised his bow in a sign of surrender and defeat. Little b*****d...what was the point of all that if you're just going to give up? The haze in front of his eyes was lifted, or dropped rather, as the magical shield that had 'protected' them from the explosions was disbanded. He turned to ask the others what should be done about their attacker, when a large red...something, shot out toward the rocks. His head jerked to his right to watch it land, but nothing came of it but some smoke rising into the sky. He blinked a few times, looking the elf over and wondering about his menatl stability. A man who attacks that fast could be dangerous, especially if you're his enemy...

Cobalt placed his bow on his back and looked around him waiting for some sort of signal. He stared at the group for a while they all seemed so tall to him. His race was Hyrothee so he was about 5ft in the game, most of these people here were nearly 6ft.
"Hello!" he shouted and waved, "where are you lot going?"
Cobalt shuffled around the rock and slowly walked towards them until he was standing infront of them.

Katriel wilted at Thalian's ignorance of her friendliness. She didn't usually run into people that disliked her, so it was something of a blow to her ego. She chewed her lip and watched as Kai wandered off without them, presumably to fight something. She wondered why they were being attacked, as this was not PvP area of the game. When the bow popped up in surrender, Katriel scoffed. She already thought less of its wielder because of his idiocy to shoot at other players in a PvM area, and she wasn't about to accept a surrender from him. However, she had no desire to fight him, so she followed Kai, interested to see his prowess in battle. She could also ensure his survival by healing him from the sidelines.

Thalian took a few steps forward, one long arm shooting out as he lightly grabbed Katriel's elbow. He withdrew his hand, which had felt a little colder than was normal against her skin, as if human contact was abhorrent to him. He cleared his throat, small mouth twisting and slanting to the side briefly. After a moment, he offered a hand, but this time in greeting. A nervous smile touched his lips. After all, she had been nice to him. Just pleasant, with no apparent motives other than a (rather misplaced, he thought) respect for her fellow players. Who was he to refuse such a thing? He tried to return it the best he could.

"I'm Thalian. T'is a pleasure." He said, sounding just a little pompous, though harmless. "I am... as of yet, unharmed. Though I'm sure any assurances of my sanity and/or intelligence are now gone, what with that all that fuss when this isn't even a dictated PvP area." He snorted at the concept. His glittering gaze flicked smoothly to Kai's retreating back, narrowing briefly. "He seems like an exceptional man of grace and competence." Thalian drawled blandly.

Katriel jumped at the touch of Thalian's hand on her elbow. It was inhumanly cold and made her skin feel as if it was crawling. She turned to him and saw his extended hand. Her face brightened slightly at the offer of courtesy and she slipped her petite hand into his, shaking it lightly and letting go. "I thought for a moment you were completely rude," she said with a tiny smile on her cherubic lips, hoping he picked up on the jest. "Yes, that was a bit too much excitement for an area such as this. However, I think the boy will have learned his lesson." She didn't even spare a glance in the direction of the player who'd waved his bow.

When Thalian turned to look at Kai's disappearing figure, Katriel smiled. She was rather proud to be a part of a group led by such a player...a man, she thought, correcting herself. She nodded in response to Thalian's statement, even though she knew he was not looking at her directly. "Yes, he does seem that way," she agreed. Her mouth twisted to one side into a slightly puzzled look, giving her face a strange appearance of absolute asymmetry. "He is an enigmatic man, however. A man of very few words..." She let the breath of her last phrase trail off as she watched a beast emerge from the forest and engage Kai in combat. She wondered if perhaps he would need help. Quickly, she gaged the strength of the thing, seeing that Kai would be able to defeat it quite easily.

(I know i missed a few days and I'm sorry....things just got unexpectedly busy.)

Nettle jumped back in shock as the arrow whipped past her head. Panicked, she darted behind a tree, instinct taking over. She hid there as the explosions went off, sending little bits of debris around. When the player surrendered she scoffed, not believing for a moment that it was true. It's better than him attacking us, but still...

Coming down from her adrenaline high, Nettle let out a sigh, ashamed that she had panicked so easily. Usually she would have been able to keep her composure, but lately she had been feeling off. Hopefully staying with a group would help...

Ignoring the bowman, she followed after the remnants of the group, specifically Katriel and Thalian, letting a hand linger on her weapons as she kept an eye out for beasts.

Shtona stood and watched the group slowly move away from the gathering spot. Kai going off the path, presumably to kill something, with Katriel at his heels. The elf stopped her and introduced himself as Thalian while Nettle emerged from her hiding place to follow after them. Everyone seemed to be moving away from this place and ignoring their attacker, which seemed just fine to him; he wanted nothing to do with the fool. He started after Thalian and Katriel, taking one look back at the stranger from the woods. He glared for a second, studying their attackers face, and realizing he'd seen him before. He was at the pub...and he was just as annoying then as he was just now. Well that's strike two...and three strikes you're dead.
