I'm usually at school when there are Warhammer nights were I live, which I think is even worse then not having access at all...v.v;;

What is Vassal?
Vassal is a program that has sprites for 40k minis and terrain on a customizable map, and lets you measure distances, calculate rounds of fire and dice rolls, and do all this online with other players. We have a thread somewhere... Here you go.

Jason here.

Any one up for a Vassel 40k game? I've managed to sort it out properly.

I'll have to look into it a little more extensively when I have time.

So, I've decided to upgrade my Autarch based on the epic-scale conversions I've been doing with his Jetbike, so now I've got a dilemma between two similar 1000pt lists, the difference being either a Falcon on one list, or three Jetbikes and an additional Warwalker on the second. Any thoughts?

Not dead yet! pirate

I actually like that list a lot. Lots of infantry, and lots of effective anti-tank weaponry. I generally run a lot of melta with my armies, and flamers will help you resist assaults by the enemy. What Chapter did you use, IE what traits?

Ah awesome. I'm glad its getting some good comments. This is going to use the Imperial Fist traits system for the army.

Is your HQ going to be running with the assault squad? If he runs at the front of the squad, he can take hits better, but still shrug off any unsaved wounds with "Look out sir!" rolls on a 2+.

That's right. I originally worked the list to include a Librarian to join the Sternguard squad in a Razorback, but I took that out, added another five Assault Marines and swapped out the Razorback for a Drop Pod which gave a few extra toys to play with.

One of these days I should probably figure out an army list. I have quite a few different units now so I could probably make something half-way decent now.

On thing that helps out is just putting together a list of what you actually have, and then you can figure out what units you can make, and from there what units you want to get as additions.

My first go at making a Tyranid list, any thoughts on this 1k?
- A Hive Tyrant with wings is, while expensive, a far more frightening and effective HQ unit to field, as it can either range ahead of your brood and keep the enemy occupied, or hang back and use Biomancy to give broods buffs, only to spring forward when you are within assault range. Even a more mundane Hive Tyrant is a great HQ choice, just keep it behind the smaller broods until they hit the enemy lines.
- It is better to take more than six Ymgarl 'Stealers, as they really benefit from fighting in large groups with their Alter Form special rule when pitted against any type of opponent.
- Personally I would drop the Hormagaunts and replace them with more Termagants, or find a way to field them in a larger number.
- I would replace the Spore Mines with Regeneration on the Carnifex, or Bio-plasma and Adrenal Glands for when faced with heavy armour or high Toughness opponents.
- Finally, I find your lack of psykers disturbing! wink Tyranids and the Biomancy psychic disciplines are a match made in heaven.

I have a Tyrant mini, but it's the OOP pewter one that's missing a few options (boneswords, wings). If I had wings for it, I would more consider it an option. sweatdrop

I do want to get some Zoanthropes, but I'm not buying any new minis at the moment. I haven't delved too deep in the psyker stuff yet.

For the Termagants, I thought about putting in another squad of 10 with Devourers, but it was expensive and vulnerable and I wanted a more assault-y army. If I drop the Hormagaunts, I'll probably add those Genestealers like you said.

Spore mines are mostly there as something for the opponent to waste a volley on, also just for fun. smile

I started out by having a nicely upgraded Carnifex (including Regen and Bioplasma), but once all those upgrades are in place, why not just get Old One Eye? The points difference is minimal at that point, I just thought it was overkill for a 1k list.
