Moya sighed and closed her eyes. "I'm scared to learn Nik. I don't want this change, I already have to find a way to handle Shilo's gifts, I don't know if I can handle something that I wasn't born to handle." She hid her face in his chest and sighed again. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

He held her tighter at that, feeling like an idiot. He knew she was scared, but this? This even hurt him. "I know you're scared Moya. And I know you don't want it. But whether you were born to handle it or not won't make a difference. You're strong, and I know you'll be able to do it in your own time. It's my fault this happened, but I'm not going to leave you on your own with it."

She took a deep breath in and could smell that this hurt him. She sighed and sat up, looking away. "Nik I don't want to hurt you. I'm sorry that I'm so scared, I shouldn't have said anything." She wanted to get out of his lap now but knew that would hurt him even more.

That probably cut deeper than anything else she could have said to him. That she was apologizing to him for being afraid made him feel even more like a b*****d than he already did. Lifting her off of his lap because he could tell she wanted to get off, he got up and went through the door to the basement, locking it and going down to his workout station. Grabbing a set of gloves he stared at the punching bag for a moment, right before he started beating the crap out of it with everything he had.

Moya sighed and waited to hear the beating sound before she started to cry. She was doing everything wrong now. She was making Shilo worry about herself growing too fast, making Nik feel sorry for all that has happened to her, and she was mad at herself for making all this happen. She got up off the couch and unlocked the back door, swinging it wide open and shifting, running off into the forest.
A while after Moya left, Shilo woke up and shifted, crawling out of her crib and looking around. She couldn't find her folks anywhere upstairs so she went down, hearing someone hitting something in the basement. She saw the back door open and became very worried. She quickly ran to the basement door and started to scratch at it and whine.

Despite the sounds of his fists meeting the bag over and over he heard Shilo against the door, stopping for a moment and breathing heavily before taking his gloves off. Shilo had been out like a lightbulb, there was no way she was up unless something was wrong. Wiping the sweat from his face he went to the door, unlocking it and looking down at her. "What's wrong?" But even as he said it he knew what it was. Moya wasn't in the house. Jumping over Shilo he ran to the back door, seeing it open and keeping his swear to himself. "Shilo, come on." Running already he shifted, following Moya's scent.

Shilo quickly followed after her dad, being able to keep up this time, knowing it has turned into a search party now for her mom.
Moya was quite a few miles into the forest, past the lake, past the houses and just in the middle of nowhere. She shifted back and climbed into a very high tree, going almost all the way to the top so she would be harder to find.

Nik followed her scent until he got stopped at the tree, sniffing around a few minutes more. So she had gone from wolf to squirrel. Damnit. Shifting back he picked up Shilo, looking up the tree and speaking loud enough that Moya heard. "You know, the tree is bigger than a crib. I could follow you up no problem, but that would mean I would have to leave Shilo down here. And I'd rather not do that because I've seen bunny rabbits bigger than our daughter."

"Then take her home and take care of her. You can do that better then I can." She hollered back as she curled up on a branch, hugging her knees and looking up at the sky.

So that was how they were going to do this. Fine then. Going back a few trees Nik found the backpack he kept hidden, emptying it out and setting Shilo inside. "Believe me kid, you'll like this more than the alternative, and I need both hands." Swinging the pack onto his back he kept the straps tight, taking a few steps back before running. His foot hit the bark and he was moving upward, climbing the tree silently and landing on one of the other branches behind Moya. "You seem to forget that I'm not a mother, I'm a father. And on top of that, I'm anatomically incapable of feeding her."

Moya didn't look at him or move, just kept her knees close and kept her head up to the sky. "But she won't understand how proud I am when she does something, because when she does something it is so big, so important to older babies and she is doing them so young. I will just make her think that nothing will make me proud when that's all what she does. I make you both worry, feel like you guys did something wrong when it was all my fault." Now her tears started to roll down her face, sobs getting stuck in her throat. "Everything I do wrong you guys think its your fault, and I can't stand to see you guys hurt so much."

"Moya, for one that is crap. For another, I can't believe you actually fail to see how much we need you and how much you mean to us. You were human and raised so, you recognized things came at certain paces in life, and that Shilo is a little ahead of the grid. She knows that too, but she knows that you're proud of her. It would be scary for any parent, wolf or human to accept it. Hell, I was born a wolf and it scares me how fast she's developing. And I worry because I know this is a lot to handle, but I have faith in you."

While her dad wasn't looking, Shilo jumped out of the bag and onto the branch next to him. She then jumped onto the branch where her mom was and crawled into her lap, licking at her face before shifting back and sitting there. "Mommy."
Moya looked down at Shilo and hugged her tightly, but not too tight and cried harder. "I love you Shilo, I really do." She looked up at Nik and then hid her face against Shilo's head. "I screwed up again, I'm sorry."

Next time he was tying the flap closed on that backpack. Shilo was going to give him a heart attack one of these days. Kneeling on his branch he reached over, stroking Moya's cheek before turning her face towards his gently. "You didn't screw up. Believe it or not Moya, this is normal."

Moya held Shilo safely with one arm and grabbed Nik's hand with the other, keeping it against her cheek. "It doesn't feel normal." She sighed and started to work on the tears, trying to get them to stop but it wasn't working very well. "I'm sorry."
