Nero sat and watched the Pokemon for a while, and it stared back at him. It seemed quite interested in his appearance, or maybe it was just the abundance of green in his outfit... "...Ulp..." Nero gulped, exhaling a bit nervously. "Here we go..."

Grabbing for his Pokeball, his hands fumbling just a bit... 'Man... this is more anxiety inducing than I had thought...' Nero thought, throwing Clooney's pokeball to the ground. There was a springy, clinky sound when the ball made contact with the path. The pokeball came to rest, and in a split second, it burst forth a spray of red-light... The light metamorphosed into the form of Clooney the Meowth. "Meeeaaaoo..."

"Clooney! See that bird? Get it with a scratch attack!" Nero commanded, and Clooney responded by deftly closing the distance between him and the bird-pokemon... "St-star?!" the pokemon cawed, and fluttered back in surprise, after being scratched.

There, the Pokemon retaliated with a peck attack, landing square on Clooney's shoulder. "Mao! Mrr..." it hissed. "Now, Clooney! Again! You got this!" Nero said, smirking.

The Cat Pokemon jumped foreward on it's hind legs, pouncing for the attack... But the Starly moved out of the way, fluttering to safety on a small branch. "Dang.... It's okay, Clooney! Try again, but use Bite!" he said, and waited to see what would happen from here.

The Starly propelled foreward with a start, cawing and readying its claws. It sliced at Clooney twice, and then flew back to the branch. "Star! Lii, Staah!" it squacked. Clooney looked at the tree and began to hatch a plan as to get up high enough to bite his target...

Nero watched in amazement as his Pokemon ran up one of the adjacent trees, jumped from it, mid-trunk and landed on the branch next to the Starly... "Wow... That was sweet." Nero remarked, and watched as Clooney grinned, his teeth showing their sharpness. "Get 'em, Boy!" he said.. And get him he did! The Starly groaned and fell from the tree, staggering to it's feet...

"I think he's had enough... Let's catch him!" Nero said, picking out a pokeball from his pack...

”Raticate!” Train cried out in horror as Rhyhorn’s foot came crashing down on the rocks that had entrapped her Pokémon. She stared helplessly at the pile of rubble, right hand holding loosely onto the pendant of her necklace. She nearly cried out again—this time in joy—when she saw a few of the rock get pushed aside and the Mouse Pokémon’s head force its way out. He was panting, but he still looked okay to battle for now. The way Raticate was staring at his opponent certainly made it seem like he didn’t want to give up any time soon, and so Train commanded, ”Use Dig!” Raticate jumped off of the pile and began to dig his way under the arena, burrowing towards Brock’s Pokémon.

Calvin’s Zigzagoon let out a tiny yelp as it felt the burn left by Will-o-wisp. Leon watched as Calvin decided what to do next, barely bothered by the fact that a Pokémon was finally landing a hit on his; it was actually a nice change of pace. Besides, it was one attack—that should be easy enough to deal with.

Calvin finally decided to just go with Pursuit again, and Ghos once again took double damage by the super effective attack. Leon watched his new Pokémon carefully, noting that he looked surprisingly tired. ”Lick,”Leon commanded, and Ghos moped forward, half-heartedly sticking out his tongue and licking right up the side of his opponent’s face, not at all enjoying the extremely tired feeling he was getting now that he’d actually lost a good chunk of his hit points.

Zigzagoon wasn’t exactly in the best shape of his life, but Ghos was still pretty drained compared to the Normal-type. Calvin was quite excited to see that he was doing well, and turned happily to his Pokémon, saying, “Use Pursuit again Zigzagoon!” His Pokémon launched into the attack, and Ghos let out a cry of pain as it hit. Leon waited to him to shake it off, but quickly realized that his Pokémon wasn’t getting back up. He pulled out Ghos’ PokéBall while Calvin and Zigzagoon cheered for their victory. Muuma blinked and looked at Leon, inching her way forward in hopes of showing her trainer that she, least, could handle it. Leon simply put the PokéBall away and said, “Congrats.” Before resuming his journey to Petalburg.

Now, Leon wasn’t mad or upset that he’d lost (although, obviously, he didn’t enjoy losing), he was just pondering how it had happened. He didn’t have a PokéDex, so he couldn’t look up Pursuit, but he did know what types were strong against Ghost-types, so it had to be one of those, at least. He considered investing in a PokéDex, but he didn’t feel like going all the way back to Littleroot. For now, he’d just do without one and find a way to deal with it on his own.

"Miles, let's try out your new move! Use Seismic Toss!" Sam called to her little Mankey as he exploded from his pokeball. The Shuckle stared ahead, slow and serene as Miles went dashing up to it, and picked it up, raising it above his head like a weight. The Shuckle's limbs dangled as it craned it's neck downwards to attempt to look at Miles. Miles crouched then leaped in the air, and at the peak of his jump, threw the Mold Pokemon into the ground, causing a loud thump and a small impact crater in the sand. The Shuckle slowly righted itself, and actually winced a little. Kya's face fell as the shadow of a lonely cloud passed over her face.

"Wow...that actually hurt Silas? Well, either your Mankey is very powerful, or that Seismic Toss is your miracle. Either way...Silas, use Constrict! Hold that Mankey off the ground, so it can't hurt you." The Shuckle nodded peacefully and inched it's way over to Miles. Miles glanced at Sam with an expression of, Can this snail actually hurt me? on his face, and then he was suddenly lifted off his feet. The Shuckle hadn't needed to move to be able to fully extend it's now-able limbs and wrap them around Miles. Then, they extended even further, holding Miles of the ground, were he fought tooth and nail to escape, but to no avail. His arms were pinned to his sides, and his legs were to far away to cause any damage. At this rate, the battle could go on indefinitely, because without Miles being able to use Seismic Toss, and inflict the set amout of damage, they would be stuck with the Shuckle's impenetrable defenses, but terrible attack power.

"Miles, you have to get out of it's grip! Try a Low Kick!" Miles attempted to manuver his foot in position to kick away the Shuckle's limbs, but they were just simply out of the way. "Okay, so that's a no go..." Sam sat back, and fell into silence, pondering her next move. Kya just watched, content to allow Sam the freedom, confident in her ability to win, convinced Sam would have to forfeit eventually. A few minutes passed...

Sam refused to forfeit. She was too damn stubborn to forfeit. So she waited, and a few more minutes passed in complete silence, aside from Miles' frustrated, but muted, screeches.

After 15 minutes of complete silence, the entire scene very still as if they were posing for an old-fashioned portrait, Miles suddenly wrenched his arm away from his side, and dug his claws into the Shuckle's limb. It didn't cry out, but it gave just enough for Miles to break free and fall back to the ground. Sam, startled out of her reverie, blinked a few times, then simply said, "Seismic Toss." Miles complied, and once again picked the Shuckle up, and threw it to the ground. It righted itself, this time noticeably breathing a little heavier.

"Well, now we seem to be getting somewhere..." Kya muttered.

======================

Eztli endured a few turns of futile calls-to-action before Xipil finally awoke. Eztli nearly fell to her knees, but kept her cool, and cried out "Ember!" quickly, before the Snow Tree pokemon could possibly get another status ailment inflicted. Unfortunately, the confusion had not worn off, and so Xipil, instead of breathing her normal neat ring of fireballs, simply spewed flames everywhere, hoping something would hit it's mark. A few indeed hit the little snow pokemon, but most hit the surrounding trees and vegetation, which quickly caught flame. Eztli turned away from the battle, and started batting at the flames with her bare hands. She could not bear to see the destruction of a homeland once again...it began to rain. Now Eztli was confused, as there had been no real indicator of rain earlier. She looked up, and saw that the rain was actually a spout of water coming from the same direction that Eztli had seen the mysterious, shadowy Trainer. Eztli stopped and stood back, watching the flames slowly die out, leaving only a few scorch marks. She turned back to the battle in time to see the snow pokemon crying in pain, and Xipil sitting on the ground, staring at the sky. She sighed in relief. She didn't think the snow pokemon could fight anymore, not with Xipil's super-effective attack having just hit it again, with the Attack boost from Swagger added in. She recalled Xipil into her pokeball, and put it away in her bag, and started to walk away.

"Wait," she heard from behind her. She turned and saw a man emerge from the shadows, as the snow pokemon disappeared into it's Great Ball. "I want to thank you," the man said, "for battling me. But I have to ask, why aren't you curious about who I am, or where this pokemon came from? You have to know it isn't from Kanto, or Johto, or Hoenn for that matter." Eztli shrugged as she studied the man. He was tall, very tall, and had dark hair, but with piercing gray eyes...in fact, as she looked closer, the irises were almost white. Contact lenses. It was almost creepy, but it sort of worked for him.

"Well...it is none of my business. If you don't wish to interact with other trainers, well, you have to gain experience somehow. Nice eyes, by the way."

"Hm, well thank you for the compliment I guess." He put a hand on the side of his head, and sighed. "I suppose you wouldn't know how to get to Fuschia? Or where a Mixcoatl Malinal lives?" Eztli stepped back.

"Fuschia is just past this route...But what do you want with my brother?" The man's eyes sparked.

"Your...brother? Well, my dear..." He brought out a pokeball, and out popped a Machoke. Eztli stared. "Earlier I had no idea, I was simply trying to train this useless pokemon I received to be the caliber I need it to be. But... You are indeed Mixcoatl's sister? This changes everything!" The Machoke suddenly went behind Eztli, and grabbed her arms, preventing her from leaving.

Sere giggled as she watched the tiny fire lizard go after the pokemon food. "It's really no problem. I'm sure we can all stock up on food the moment this boat lands." She said. Curiously, George seemed a bit unsure if he should be taking food from someone that wasn't his trainer. Serenity actually had to nudge him to have something to eat.

"You'll wanna stay strong right?" She said to the Marshstomp. George nodded. "Then you're going to have to trust Kasiya today."

George looked at the food again and then decided that having some food was definately better than no food even if that food might have poison in it.

The two girlls giggled and ate the bit of food they had, while watching their pokemon eating the bit of food that they had.

"Well it's definately been an interesting trip. Still can't wait to get off this over croweded bucket."

Out across the grassy field Riza could see two trainers that had just started a battle. The first trainer had sent out an orange lizard like creature, which Riza's Pokedex identified as a Charmeleon, and the other had sent out a very angry looking white puffball with boxing gloves for hands. This second Pokemon was identified as a Primeape and Riza slowly walked a little closer, wondering which of the two Pokemon would prevail. Both Pokemon were very quick on their feet and Riza watched with a blank expression as the two ran at each other, claws and fists flying. Primeape was the first to score a hit and it was a good one judging by the way Charmeleon went flying, though the lizard was quick to recover and it quickly spewed a steady stream of flames at his opponent. The Primeape's screeches echoed loudly throughout the field as the flames scorched its body, leaving blackened patches over its once white fur.

Riza was finding herself to be more interested in the battle than she initially though she'd be, and she didn't notice when she crossed into what she would soon discover was the territory of a very volatile flock of Spearow. At first she didn't even notice the angry squawking rise up around her, and it wasn't until the first Spearow swooped at her that she even realized what was happening. "Hey, what's your problem?" she shouted, covering her head with her arms and dropping to the ground. More of the birds came at her then, shrieking and clawing and pecking at her with their sharp talons and beaks. Riza winced and ignored the cuts she was receiving to her bare arms for now as she snatched her Sneasel's pokeball from her belt. "Akima, I need your help!" she cried as the sharp claw Pokemon appeared in a flash of light.

It took only a second for the Sneasel to survey the situation and without hesitation she began to go after the bird Pokemon that were attacking her trainer. It was safe to say that she was stronger than these puny Spearow, as most were easily batted away or chased off with a swipe of her claws, she didn't even have to resort to her formidable Ice Punch yet. For a short while it looked like it would be an easy victory for her, until a large shadow passed by overhead, and both Akima and Riza looked up to see a much larger bird swooping down for the attack.

For the first few hours of the night, Katie slept quite soundly until she was awoken by a strange clacking sound, something that resembled a xylophone. Katie rubbed her eyes and sat up, suddenly realizing that Kord was no longer snuggled up next to her in the sleeping bag. "Where did he go...?" she mumbled, looking around. The strange sound continued from somewhere nearby, and she wondered if the little Elekid had gone off to investigate it on his own. She stood up slowly, stepping tentatively across the cool ground, which felt odd to her bare feet.

"Kord?" she called out in a hushed whisper, looking around for her other Pokemon. Seraphim was where she'd left her, and Noa was perched nearby, her head tucked under her wing as she slept. Genki was curled up into a ball at the bottom of her sleeping bag, his tail flame temporarily extinguished. That just left the whereabouts of her missing Elekid.

The strange sounds didn't seem like they were too far away and Katie didn't think she would have to go very far. This would turn out to be true as she ventured down the path slightly, biting her lip as she felt the occasional stone press into her feet. She soon spotted Kord, as he was easy to find seeing as he was giving off little sparks of electricity that lit up the area around him. The Elekid had seemingly managed to make friends with a trio of Kricketot and now the three were happily playing him some sort of tune with their antennae. Katie sighed, glad to see that her Pokemon was safe, but wasn't sure if she wanted to interrupt the performance as of yet so she chose to wait until they were finished. 'Hope this isn't an all nighter,' she thought.

Miles was still in top form, the Constrict having done next to nothing while the Shuckle was having trouble staying up. It apparently only had super high defenses, not attack, speed, or health. Sam filed away the information about Miles' Seismic Toss in the back of her brain for if she ever came across a similar situation. Sam knew that the Shuckle could only last just a few more turns at most. She grinned impishly at her opponent.

"Seismic Toss! Again!"

"Silas! Catch it in the air!" Miles sped forward to launch the Shuckle into the air again.

"Miles! Stop!" It was too late, Miles was suddenly entrapped in the Shuckle's long yellow limbs again. Sam silently cursed. "Miles, you worked out of this last time! Do it again, okay?"

"Silas, hold firm! If it can't get away, at the very least we'll have a stalemate!" Sam turned on Kya.

"Hardly! Miles and I will never give up, never forfeit! We will only settle for a true victory or loss!" Sam shut up for a moment. 'I sound like...a cheesy video game character,' she thought to herself, 'I really need to think before I speak in battle...I mean, I normally calculate the correct response when speaking to people in normal conditions, but I guess I'm just not really thinking...Is that weird that I never really speak freely, I am always always calculating how best to make friends? But who can blame me, I really am anti-social...' She snapped attention back to the battle, where Miles was struggling against the hold the Shuckle had on him. Sam was struck by an idea. "Miles, use Leer!" Miles raised a patch of fur where his eyebrow would be. "Just do it!" Miles rolled his eyes, then narrowed his eyes at the Shuckle. The Shuckle, confused by the sudden change of tactic, loosened it's grip ever so slightly, and Miles broke free, launching himself at the Shuckle and lifting it to the sky.

"Silas!" Kya cried. The Shuckle was flung to the ground, making less of an impact the very first time due to a slight angling error, but still damaging it just the same. The Shuckle, looked upwards dolefully, then looked back at it's trainer. Kya sighed, and recalled it. "Silas isn't much of a battler, he has a very Timid nature. But, with his defenses, it usually ends up being okay because all he has to do is frustrate his enemy into doing something stupid, or restraining it somehow. But I guess I should learn more strategies for him." She nodded to Sam. "That was an exciting battle! Even though I lost, it was one of the funnest and most...teachingest? Is that a word? Battle I have ever had!" She smiled, and giggled. Sam returned the smile, but didn't recall Miles, who really didn't need to be recalled. Although a little worn down from the theatrics and sheer frustration, he still the energy to do some pull ups off a line of pennants strung from the Lighthouse to another building in Olivine. Sam watched him for awhile before replying.

"I agree. Would you like to go to the Pokemon Center, and get our Pokemon healed? I remember there used to be this cute restaurant near the Center, we could catch some dinner there, as it seems to be getting late." She pointed to the sky, and Kya glanced upwards.

"Oh you're right! Well if it is still open, I would love to! If not, we could just eat something at the Center. If we get lucky, maybe we can see some other powerful trainers, maybe even a Gym Leader! Olivine does have a Gym, and the Leader is supposedley pretty strong!" Sam kept silent about her own information and experience with Jasmine, not feeling it pertinent to the conversation.

Eztli struggled against the Machoke's hold, but it was useless. She stared curiously at the shadowy man, no anger in her eyes. The man was a little creeped out at how calm the girl stayed, but stayed aloof. He casually extracted a butcher knife, and smiled inwardly at the small flicker of fear he saw in the girl's eyes.

"So...You are the brother of Mixcoatl...Interesting, I should have seen sooner. You two look so much alike, almost like your father...You remember that Mixcoatl used to be a trainer, just like your dad? Trainer's sometimes aren't the brightest bunch, and Mixcoatl got into something he wasn't ready for."

"Do you mean Citlali? His baby girl?" Eztli kept her voice steady, but she couldn't keep her heart from increasing it's rate.

"Oh no, that was just a...mistake. A mistake he shouldn't have made. He knew he was in trouble and he still got that girl pregnant, and even married her! Painted a big target on both of them as it were."

"What did Mix do?" Eztli asked, her calm breaking.

"You ever hear of Team Rocket?"

"Who hasn't?" Eztli said through gritted teeth, remembering when all the Slowpoke had been taken from Azalea for their tails. "But Mix would never join."

"Well he didn't join Team Rocket, perse. He joined something better. A small group, of ex-Team Rocket people, convinced that Team Rocket was, and is, a bumbling organization that can't help, or destroy, the world even if their lives were at stake. This group knew that they could do on their own what Team Rocket couldn't, what any of the other copycats from Hoenn or Sinnoh couldn't. They could truly take the world, without having to control the legends of the past. They could take the world through subtle deception and brute force."

"Mix wouldn't do that," Eztli said, her calm returning, her tone neutrual. A harsh slap was heard, and a small red mark appeared on Eztli's cheek.

"You stupid girl! Your air of superiority des not become you! You do not seem to understand that you are under my control right now, and I could do ANYTHING to you!" the man roared at her. Eztli stared him straight in the eyes.

"Then do so," she said simply, with a slight smile on her face. The man's eyes flashed angrily, and he flung the knife in her direction. Eztli inched her body away from it, and it struck the Machoke in the leg. It cried out in pain, but didn't let Eztli go, leaving the knife stuck in it's leg. The man tsked in disgust, strode forward, and yanked the knife uncerimoniously from it's leg. It howled in pain, but still didn't let go.

"Come!" the man screamed at the Machoke holding Eztli, "It is time we paid a visit to Mixcoatl! He has to learn he cannot leave so easily. The death of his wife and child were nothing!" He began to make his way out of the maze, towards Fuschia City.

"Did you kill them?" Eztli asked, still deadpan. The man rounded on her. He ignored her question.

"What to do with you, I can't very well drag through Fuschia in this state..." He grabbed Eztli's pack, witholding all her items and pokemon from her. "Hm...no worthwile collateral in here..." Eztli prayed for Xipil to break free of her pokeball, but Xipil was too exhausted from her battle. The man snapped his fingers together. He slung the pack across his back, and picked up the knife from where he had dropped it in the grass. He slowly manuvered it in between the Machoke's body and Eztli's back, the point digging into Eztli's spine. He put his arm around Eztli, trapping her against the knifepoint. The Machoke followed behind. To a bystander, it would look like a VIP couple with their bodyguard. Eztli didn't squirm, afraid of the knife poised to destroy her spinal cord. The man leaned in close to her ear, whispering into it. "Lead the way, pet."

With her Bulbasaur now brimming with health and energy, Miharu felt her previously dwindling confidence starting to return, despite all the buffering moves Chuck had just ordered his Hitmonchan to use. The Punching Pokemon was also the Gym leader's last, while Miharu still had two (mostly) healthy Pokemon remaining, giving her the current advantage. This match is not going to end with me being the loser, I'm sure of it, she thought, clenching a fist. We're going to win this one, and prove to Chuck just how tough we are!

"Lily, blow them away with your Petal Dance!" she then called, deciding it best to go with the attack her Bulbasaur was best with. The Seed Pokemon growled in approval - now her trainer was talking! The little diva dashed forward and spun around, a storm of beautiful, pink flower petals spiraling outward from the opening of the bulb on her back. This move was truly beautiful, and Miharu smiled. Perhaps someday she would enter Lily in a contest, as it seemed like something the Bulbasaur would be much happier competing in.

Chuck couldn't help but grin when he saw the look of confidence appear on the girl's face. He'd known from the first moment he saw her that she'd be a tough opponent, and he was glad that she wasn't letting him down. Even though things were looking grim for him at the moment, he wasn't prepared to give up just yet, either, and he beat his fists against his belly and gave a loud and triumphant yell, even as the Petal Dance was launched at his Hitmonchan. "Go through it and give 'em a Fire Punch," he shouted. "Those fancy petals don't scare us!"

Hitmonchan grit his teeth and brought both fists up in front of him in a defensive manner. He let out a shout and they both erupted in flames as he charged forward, his arms moving so fast they were a fiery blur as he hit the petals head on. Though many were incinerated as he charged through the attack, he still suffered damage, and he refused to show it as he swung both flaming fists at the Bulbasaur for what he and his master hoped would be a devastating strike.

Both Riza and Akima looked skyward as the large bird came around again, its eyes narrowed in anger. The bird had large, feathery wings and a long neck, and it also had a long, sharp-looking beak, and all at once Riza realized it was a Fearow, and quite an angry one at that. Riza had never seen any other Fearow other than the golden one Crenu had, so she assumed this was what they looked like normally. "Get away from me!" she yelled as the massive bird dove at her, and she jumped back just out of the way of that sharp beak. "I don't know what its problem is, but it picked the wrong girl to mess with! Akima, get it!"

"Sneasel snee!" Akima cried, not hesitating for even a second. She rushed at the Fearow, not at all caring that it was much larger than she was and jumped at it, though the Fearow was able to drift up and out of the way of the Sneasel's dangerously sharp claws. The bird seemed to be quite confident in her abilities as she looked down condescendingly at the Sneasel, then came at her with a Fury attack.

"Akima, dodge and use Screech," Riza called, stepping back. She was a little glad the Fearow's attention was now on Akima, but she still felt a little worried for her partner. It was very easy for the agile Sneasel to get out of the way of that beak, and she jumped back and let out the most god awful sound she could possibly manage. The Fearow let out a squawk and shook her head, trying to rid her head of the painful ringing she now felt. "Now use your Fury Swipes," Riza shouted, feeling her heartbeat start to pick up. There was something about taking on a tough opponent, and not one that was going to hold back, like Jaden, that was getting her all riled up. Without even realizing it she'd taken an empty pokeball from her bag and had enlarged it, readying herself to throw it as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Katie shivered with cold as she watched the three Kricketot and her Elekid, wondering how long this little concert was going to last. She shuddered and took a step back, managing to step on a twig in the process. It cracked loudly under her and the three little bug Pokemon stopped suddenly, all looking at the intruder curiously. Kord had jumped up and was looking at his trainer with a big of a smirk. He turned to his friends and started chatting to them, letting them know that Katie was with him.

The three exchanged glances and then tottered over to Katie, each circling around her a few times before they all seemed to decide that she was friendly. "Uh, sorry for the interruption," she said sheepishly, and knelt down on the ground. "Please continue." Satisfied with the girl's apology, the three Kricketot toddled back over to their places and resumed their tune. Katie smiled and closed her eyes as she listened. It reminded her of the music box she used to have when she was little. She'd played it so many times that it had finally broken. Her mother had sent it away for repair, but there had been an error in the shipping and it got lost. Somehow, hearing these three Pokemon play their music made her feel a lot better about it.

'I'm glad I finally left home,' she thought, scooping up Kord into her arms as he'd come over to her side. 'I've managed to do so much in only a few short days, and I bet they're nothing compared to what's to come.' When the concert was over, Kate and Kord thanked the Kricketot by giving them a bit of a late night snack, and the three went off into the thicket. Yawning loudly, both Katie and her little Pokemon snuggled back down under the covers, and promptly fell sound asleep.

Eyeing the tiny blackish grey bird pokémon, Nero tossed the pokéball at it. The ball made slight contact with the Starly, and opened up at a 90 degree angle, engulfing it in a red spray of light...

The pokéball wiggled around a bit, from left to right, left to right... "I think I got it..." Nero smiled and gave a thumbs up to Clooney. "Good boy, Clooney! You helped catch a new pokémon!" he said, and pet the cat-pokémon upon the head, ruffling his fur just a little...

"Myaaaouf!" cried Clooney, his eyes shut into small slits. "Hmm... well... I don't know what to call you... How about... Icarus!" Nero said to himself, and went to pickup the pokéball. As he did, Clooney made an impatient sound, and began to walk around the area some more, whether the human wanted to follow was his choice to make...
"H-hey now! Slow down, Clooney!" Nero said, and chased after him. "
You wanna battle something else or something...?" Nero asked, and the Meowth responded in kind.

Clooney stared fiercely at his "owner" ... 'Ofcourse, I want to kill something, idiot...' was the translation of the look in its eyes... "Okay then... let's go find something else to battle..."

As Sam and Kya walked to the Pokemon Center, Kya babbled on, giggling nervously, while Sam stayed silent. She wasn't really thinking about anything, her mind was just...blank.

"Sam?"

"Huh?"

"It looks like they are closed! It must be a lot later then we thought!"

"What? The Pokemon Center is closed?"

"What? No, the restaurant! It's right next door see?"

"Oh....huh...well let's just get some food here at the Center then." They both walked through the doors, and dropped off their pokemon with the Nurse Joy, then headed to the cafeteria. They both filled their trays with food, Sam stuffing some away for later because she knew she would not finish it all. Sam took out Devlin's pokeball, having kept it with her since he didn't need healing, and released him. Devlin squawked at the late hour, but then settled down to eat, pecking at some bread on one of the plates.

"Oh hey, that's a good idea! Aiden probably needs some food too!" Kya released the little Aipom from the boat, and it immediately dug into a juicy apple. "Oh did you hear? The first boat for Sinnoh left today! Or was it yesterday? Anyways, wouldn't it have been cool to go?" Sam shrugged.

"I'm focusing on Johto for just a little longer. I was in Kanto for awhile after falling off a boat, and then I was in Hoenn. I guess I don't want to leave home again so soon."

"You've traveled so much! I went to Cianwood on a little vacation, hoping to find some good training partners for Gina! While I was there, a boy who was terrified Team Rocket would take his precious Shuckle entrusted me with Silas. But isn't that kind of convoluted? He is afraid they would take it away from him, and he gives it to me?"

"Oh yes, I know the boy. He isn't quite right in the head, he used to have lots of Shuckles, his dad bred them or something, but he is convinced each is going to be suddenly taken from him. Many Trainers on Cianwood receive the first Pokemon from him."

"Oh really? Well, I do like Silas, even if he is a bit slow, he is very sweet! He also makes the most delicious Berry Juice I have ever tasted!" Sam smiled genuinely, and stroked Devlin's feathers absentmindedly. "Oh yes, didn't you say you wanted to maybe find a new Pokemon?"

"Well..." Sam sighed. "I would prefer it to be something that could help me with the coming battles, so with me going to the Violet Gym, I would assume Electric. But I don't think you can find many Electric-type pokemon around here, other then Mareeps and the occasional Magnemite."

"Flying types have more then one weakness you know. And what is wrong with Magnemite and Mareeps?"

"Well nothing, I mean I love Mareeps, they are very cute! But I don't think I would be able to train it enough in time for the gym battle."

"Well why rush into it?"

"What else am I supposed to do?"

"Enjoy yourself?" Sam sat back and was silent for a moment.

"So what are other types are Flying pokemon weak to?"

Eztli bypassed many trainers along the route, although one biker did look like he was going to battle them, until the man holding her hostage glared at him, jerking his chin, with the Machoke flexing angrily. Yet again, Eztli wondered, 'Who are these people? Why would Mix do this?' As they entered into Fuschia city, it was eerily quiet. It was late, and the stars weren't providing much light. As the man pushed her forward by applying pressure to her back with the knife, Eztli thought about her options. She didn't want to lead the man to Mixcoatl, but what choice did she have? She knew no one else in the city, other then her father in the psych ward, and she couldn't lead him to the Gym or the Pokemon Center. She stopped in front of her grandparent's porch, the light still lit.

"Is he in there?" the man hissed.

"He should be, unless he suddenly decided to restart his journey in the past few hours."

"And would he?" The man's uncertainty was evident.

"You don't really know him do you? After all these years, do you think he would?"

"Shut up! I was given a name, and a job! Nothing is ever personal in our group!" One of the lights in her grandparent's house flicked on. Eztli's eyes widened a fraction.

"Okay, hush, you'll wake my grandparents, and they will raise hell. Let me bring Mix to you. There is only one door, so I can't escape." The man's eyes glinted steel.

"No. I will not let you out of my sight, not when you are so valuable." He led her up to the door, and the Machoke knocked on the door a few times, before simply kicking it in. There was silence for a few moments. Then Mix strode into the light. He had a pokeball in his hand, and more on his belt.

"Mix, I thought you released all your Pokemon."

"Hush, hermanita." The man pressed the knife even harder into Eztli's back, and she felt a few blood droplets roll down her back. For the first time, she felt truly terrified. She realized she could actually die here, and she had also brought death to her only family's doorstep.

'What have I done?' she thought to herself.

"Mixcoatl Malinal...You have been requested to return to our order. This request is temporary, as afterwards we will use force, on your loved ones first. We have decided that your absence has turned into desertment, which is not tolerated. We tried to force you to come back, through the murder of your child, and subsequent death of your wife, but you refused. Come, or you, and your family will die. Strapped to me is a can of cyanide. If it is damaged in any way, or if my hearts stops, we shall all die." Mix stared at Eztli, before re-attatching the pokeball to his belt.

"Well what choice do I have? Fine, I will come with you. Now let Eztli go." The man shoved her away, and Eztli fell into Mix's arms. As he pulled away, he said one word in her ear, then strode to the man. They shook hands.

"And to make sure we are not followed..." A small pop was heard, and Eztli fell to the ground. As she faded in and out of consciousness, she vaguely heard the man say, "Oh, don't worry, she's not dead. I have orders to not kill unless necessary." Eztli fell back, and Mixcoatl left the house reluctantly.

Eztli awoke only 20 minutes later, but Mixcoatl and the strange man had already fled. As she came to her senses, she realized she had no idea where her grandparents were. 'Mixcoatl must have sent them away...He knew it was coming...' She sat, and after a few minutes of dizziness she released Zolin from his pokeball, as he was still in good condition.

"Cu...bone?" he asked tiredly.

"Zolin, you need to make sure I don't pass out on the way to the Pokemon Center. We have to get Xipil healed, then we have to get to Sinnoh as soon as possible."

Mai nodded along as Robin happily delved into her story about the enigmatic Ampersand, and the two of them had started walking away from the cafeteria. Mai herself didn't really remember all that much about the man, other than the fact that her Tyhplosion had mysteriously fallen asleep the moment he came within ten feet of her. After that, she recalled nothing, and she silently cursed herself for allowing that scientist to use her as a lab rat to test his theory out on. She jotted down the points of Robin's explanation that seemed the most important, particularly the part about her meeting up with him in Jubilife. She'd heard of the city a few times know, and she knew it was most famous for the large television studio located practically in the middle of it. She made a mental note to mention it to Giovanni - if one of their agents could infiltrate the studio, chances were very good that they would be able to cipher information from the network's databases into their own, and thus learn more about this strange region.

"Perhaps," she said idly in response to the girl's question about meeting him, as she wasn't sure if he'd be able to recognize her or not. "I have my own very important business to conduct," she said, pocketing her notepad and pen. "I thank you very much for your time, and please remember to keep a closer watch on your Pokemon. Next time, you might not be so lucky." She shook Robin's hand and bid her farewell before she continued walking, a restless feeling starting to settle into her bones. She knew she wouldn't be able to stand being cooped up on this ship for much longer, and she hoped for everyone else on board's sake, that they would make port soon.

"Shelgon, hurry and use Protect!" Jaeshan called as the Ancientpower quickly made its way towards his Pokémon. He knew it was too late though, and all Shelgon could do was close her eyes and grit her teeth as the rocks smashed into her. Jaeshan quickly looked back to the Mamoswine to see if it had been blessed with the rare stat boost, though this time it appeared he wasn't lucky enough. Jaeshan frowned and scratched his chin as he looked back to his own Pokémon. He knew there wasn't much else he could do that would be effective against the Ice-type, and Shelgon was starting to look a little tired. "Okay Shelgon, try your Dragon Claw," he said finally. He didn't want to have to resort to using direct attacks such as this, but there was nothing else he could do. Shelgon let out a growl and began to rush towards her target, a slight purple glow emanating from her body. Once she'd closed in on her target she reared up on her hind legs and slashed forward with her forelegs, two sets of dangerous, ethereal claws sprouting from her front feet.

Mamoswine bellowed loudly from the deep gashes that had appeared on his body, and he staggered back, unable to believe that this tiny dragon (at least according to him she was tiny) had been able to hurt him. "Nice," Eliza commented, though she too looked a bit surprised by Shelgon's fierce attack. "But it won't be enough," she added with a smirk. "Mamoswine, take her out with an Ice Shard!" The Twin Tusk Pokémon tromped forward, an icy sphere of energy forming between his tusks. A split second later the sphere split apart into several shards that were then sent speeding towards Shelgon. "That's the way!" Eliza cheered.

Even before the Ice Shard hit Jaeshan knew this was going to be bad. Shelgon hunkered down and tried her best to stay strong against the chilling shards of ice that seemed to cut her to the very core, but the attack was just too strong for her, and before she could formulate another thought she'd fallen to her belly, unable to continue the battle.

Kya sighed and gestured towards the bank of computers.

"Want to check? I don't know off the top of my head." Sam shrugged.

"How about you go, while I watch the little ones? They seem to be enjoying their food," she said, gesturing to Devlin and the baby Aipom. Both were still munching on the food on the trays. Kya smiled warmly, then sauntered over to the computers. She called out across the room.

"Looks like...Ice and Rock! Well that doesn't help you much I guess, I don't think you can find one of those any easier then an Electric type. Maybe you should just attempt the gym with the Pokemon you have now. You'll have a little more trouble then most, but I think you can handle it! After all, they are bound to get more powerful as you proceed to Violet! It is kind of far away, even if you do take the train to Goldenrod!" Sam nodded.

"That reminds me, when does that leave?"

"Uh...next one isn't for awhile. You probably wanna stick around here for awhile I guess." The resident Nurse Joy walked between them.

"Please, be quiet! It is very late, people are sleeping! You will wake them," she said in a forced whisper. Kya and Sam exchanged a glance around her. Kya walked back to the table and recalled Aiden, and Sam followed suit with Devlin.

"Alright Nurse Joy, we'll be quiet. We should probably get some sleep anyways..." Sam said to both the Nurse Joy and Kya. They both nodded, and Nurse Joy directed them to adjoining rooms they could use if they wanted. They settled in, Sam quickly cluttering her room with her few belongings. Kya came into her room freshly showered and in pajamas.

"Hey so...I want to get going as soon as possible. So I'm just gonna catch a few hours of sleep, then head out to Goldenrod. I feel like walking instead of waiting for the train. So in case you are still sleeping...Bye. It was nice meeting you, and battling with you. Most trainers, you'll never see again. But some you make lifelong bonds with. I think it is just chance. Who knows? Maybe we will see each other in Goldenrod! We could have a rematch, if our pokemon are drastically different. So um...yeah." She strode forward, and shook Sam's hand, then hugged her lightly. "Good night!"

"Yeah, bonne nuit!"

"Is that French?"

"Yeah, just a habit I guess." Kya giggled, then went back into her room, and shut the door, locking it, and turned off the light. Sam crawled into her own bed, leaving her own light own. She didn't like the dark, she found it very hard to sleep without some light source on. She released Devlin, and let him snuggle in close to her as she fell into deep sleep.

Zolin was so tiny, he knew if Eztli fell, he would not be able to help her up. She could probably crush him! But he didn't want to argue with his master, his only friend, so they walked together, Eztli stumbling a bit with the aftereffects of the drug still lingering. She finally staggered into the Pokemon Center of Fuschia, and placed her entire bag on the counter.

"Iss...in here..." she slurred, then she picked a couch out of the way, and had Zolin keep guard as she grabbed a blanket. She forgot to grab a pillow. She collapsed on the couch, barely covering herself with the blanket. Zolin hopped up on the couch and finished tucking her in. Satisfied, he jumped back down, and saw the Nurse Joy walking towards Eztli with her pack. Zolin put his bone in front of the mouth of his skull, signaling, "Shh!". The Nurse nodded, a bit concerned at Eztli's state, but writing it off as alcohol or drugs. It happened more often then she would like.

Not twenty minutes later, Eztli sat bolt upright sweating furiously. She stumbled to the bathroom and vomited.

"Ugh...disgusting..." she whispered to herself. 'It must be a side effect,' she thought to herself. She grabbed a paper towel and wiped her mouth, then she rinsed it out with some water from the sink. She noticed with some satisfaction that her mind was clearer, more focused. She decided she had the strength to continue on, and try and find the soonest boat to Sinnoh. She went to the counter, only stumbling once.

"Oh it's you, you look better already! No hangover it looks like," the Nurse Joy said, a bit oblivious to her actions.

"Hangov- Oh yeah, I guess. Um, is my Magby ready?"

"Just about! Just a few more minutes I think, she took quite a beating!"

"Thanks. I'll be back in a few minutes then." She motioned for Zolin to come join her, and he came, bringing Eztli's pack with him. As she munched on a granola bar, she brought up a schedule of all the ferries leaving for Sinnoh. Her heart sank. The next one would be leaving tomarrow...out of Cinnabar Island. And she had no way of getting there as she didn't have Fly or Surf. She sat back and kneaded her brow. 'Cmon Eztli think...you have to get there as soon as possible....Think...Okay Fuschia City is connected to the ocean, so theoretically someone could Surf me there, but...I don't really like water. I would prefer Flying, but who could fly me there? Unless...' Eztli was struck by the thought that her family had lived here in Fuschia for generations, and at the very least had become notorious for bad luck. Eztli was sure she could find someone in Fuschia who would be willing to help her. She got up, pushed the chair in, and walked back to the counter. She thanked the Nurse Joy as she received Xipil's pokeball. She exited the Pokemon Center, painfully aware of just how late it was. 'But I have no choice, it is now or never!' Eztli thought. She immediately headed for her grandparent's next door neighbor. She breathed deeply. 'Here goes nothing...' she thought as she knocked on the door.

Kasiya smiled as she watched her young Charmander eat, glancing over at George as he finally decided that food was important and had some as well. The sandwich given to her by Serenity disappeared quite quickly as well, and Kasiya felt her stomach rumble in protest as there being no more to eat. It won't be long until we land in Sinnoh, and we were promised free food when we arrive, she thought, rubbing her belly tentatively. Nova was eagerly licking up the crumbs from the floor while Flash watched somewhat enviously. Feeling a bit bad for the Jolteon, Kasiya recalled him into his Pokeball. Don't worry Flash, we'll all have plenty to eat in no time, she thought, patting the Pokeball lovingly. "Thanks Serenity, your sister makes really good sandwiches," she said with a light grin. "I think I can last until we land, at the very least."

Kasiya had been about to say something else when she spotted two familiar figures walking nearby. One was a very cheerful-looking girl with bright red hair - Robin, the other a tall, older woman with pale blonde hair, a violet, professional looking outfit and horned-rimmed glasses. Her eyes lit up when she recognized the older woman; she'd been the one the blue-haired friend of Sasha's had pointed out to them yesterday. She'd been the one that had found Keegan a room to rest in while he dealt with his seasickness. "Oh, there's that reporter lady," she said idly, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "I'm gonna go ask her if Keegan's feeling better yet, maybe get him some water or coffee or something. I bet that Ambipom and Snorlax didn't get to all of that." She smiled at her newest friend and nodded for Nova to follow her. The Charmander wasn't paying attention to her trainer, and instead was just sitting on the floor, content to watch her tail flame burn. Kasiya giggled and recalled her before hurrying after the reporter woman, realizing that she and Robin had since started off on their own separate ways.

As she approached the woman, a strange feeling of unease started to overcome her. Something in the back of her mind was telling her to run, but she couldn't understand why. I must be overreacting, she thought, trying to shake it off. My nerves are all messed up from all the stress over the past few days. She put on a smile as she got nearer to her, even though the strange feeling didn't let up, and she reached up and tapped her on the shoulder. "Excuse me," she said, being sure to be polite, "but would you be able to tell me how my friend is doing? You know, the redhead who was suffering from seasickness? I'd like to go check up on him and see if he's feeling better."

Mai felt a light chill run through her when she felt someone touch her shoulder, and she looked over to see none other than Kasiya standing there, wearing her usual clueless smile. She laughed a bit, despite her best efforts to stifle it, and nodded. "You must be a friend of his. Of course, he's up in room 206. I'm sure he must have recovered by now," she added, hoping she'd timed the administering of the antidote well enough.

"Okay, thanks," Kasiya said happily, her previous unease pretty much forgotten entirely as she hurried along towards the stairs, eager to find her beloved redhead so that she could make amends, as well as find out why he'd decided to come to Sinnoh even after he'd been so against it before.

Mai watched her younger half-sister disappear around a corner, and she removed the fake smile from her face. "Idiot girl," she said quietly, taking her phone from her pocket. She needed to make sure the room was Rocket-free when Kasiya arrived on the scene, otherwise there would be a problem.

Jaeshan couldn't help but feel terrible as he recalled Shelgon back into her Pokeball, and attached the sphere to his belt. Part of him had known that he should have withdrawn her, but a bigger, more stubborn part had been sure she'd be able to pull through. He just hoped that she wouldn't be upset with him later on. "Well, that's that," he said, shrugging. "I guess you win."

"No way," Eliza objected loudly. "We agreed to a three on three, remember? First it was my Ursaring and your Mightyena, and then Mamoswine and Shelgon. We're not done yet!"

"Oh," Jaeshan said, blinking in confusion. He'd actually gotten so caught up in the fight between Shelgon and Mamoswine that he'd forgotten about that. "Well in that case, I choose Blaziken next," he said, grinning broadly as he released the Blaze Pokemon from her Pokeball. Blaziken appeared in a flash of flames and light, fire already burning from her wrists. It seemed she was eager for battle, like usual. "Let's see if you stand the heat from a real Fire-type attack," he said, looking to Blaziken. "Flamethrower, let's go!" There was not a second wasted as Blaziken stepped forward, the air rippling around her as she opened her beak and loosed a tremendous jet of fire at the Mamoswine.

Ugh, no, not this psychic bullshit again, Keegan thought angrily as he felt himself being blocked by an unseen force. It didn't feel overly strong and it wavered slightly when Keegan pressed up against it. "I guess you're losing your touch, psychic-boy," he sneered, hoping he could cause Jensen to lose his concentration further. "Maybe you should spend more time at the gym pumping iron instead of trying to bend spoons with your mind!" Keegan put his hands up against the barrier and pushed forward, determined as hell not to lose to this wimp. Come on, come on, I can do this, he thought, gritting his teeth. He gasped with surprise when he felt the barricade suddenly start to give, and he pushed harder, not entirely sure how he was fighting back other than the fact that he suddenly knew that his will needed to be stronger than Jensen's.

What? Jensen thought, faltering slightly from the sudden shift. I've been in this kid's head for how long and not once did he show a glimmer of psychic ability! He tried to ignore the redhead's taunting, but it was difficult. There was something about his tone of voice that was especially irritating, and he knew that he would have to resort to drastic measures if he wanted to come out this as the victor. He closed his eyes and reached forward with his mind, probing at the surface thoughts going through the redhead's mind. It wasn't a difficult task, as Keegan had no defenses of any sort, so it wasn't long before he was able to find something he thought he could use against him, and he smiled. "Forget it, Red, there's no way you can beat me. And when I'm finished with you, I think I'll pay your pretty little girlfriend a visit, too. She's the cute blonde who was wearing that green bikini, wasn't she? Oh, I'll have fun with her," he laughed viciously.

"You sonova b***h," Keegan growled, outraged. "You touch her, you're dead!" Anger fueled him as he pushed his way forward, and with an enraged shout he slashed the air with his arm, sending Jensen flying with a single motion. The redhead's anger evaporated almost as quickly as it had come as he watched the Rocket fly helplessly through the air and smash through the window, and down onto the deck below. "What... just happened?" he whispered, looking down at his own two hands incredulously. He could hear screams and voices from outside, and he began to panic...

...and then he opened his eyes, realizing quickly that it had been yet another dream. "What the hell..." he muttered, reaching up slowly to touch his forehead. He felt cool and clammy, which was a drastic change from the high fever he'd spiked earlier. "Am I actually awake now?" he grumbled, slowly sitting up. He felt awake, but also weak and a little shaky, and as he tried to stand he faltered as his legs gave out on him, and he crashed heavily to the hardwood floor. "Yep, I'm awake," he muttered, annoyed. "Now to get the hell out of here..."

The flames from Hitmonchan's Fire Punch seemed to be enhanced by the strong sunlight, just as Lily's Synthesis had. Miharu felt her heart stop as the flaming fist connected with her poor Bulbasaur, and the poor dear was sent for a tumble, scorch marks covering her once bright green bulb. "Lily, can you go on?" Miharu asked, her hand holding tightly to the Bulbasaur's Pokeball, ready to call her back.

Somehow the Seed Pokemon staggered to her feet, her will to go on currently stronger than the pain she felt coursing through her. Her body began to glow with a shimmery, green aura as her special Overgrow ability was activated due to her extremely low stamina, and the second Petal Dance released from her bulb looked to be a lot more powerful than the previous one had been. Miharu marveled at the power displayed by the small Bulbasaur, but couldn't help but wonder how different this match would be if she'd chosen to evolve into an Ivysaur, or even a Venusaur, by now.

Chuck was surprised to see the Bulbasaur get back up after taking that Fire Punch on the chin, and he clapped loudly. "Your Bulbasaur's got guts, but guts won't be enough to bring down Hitmonchan! Finish it off with a Drain Punch!" the gym leader shouted, his own fists cutting quickly through the air.

Hitmonchan nodded and moved forward, bringing his gloved hands up to his chin as he moved in for the attack. He weaved in and out of the barrage of petals, using his boosted agility to avoid as much damage as possible. A strange, spiraling aura covered his right fist as he lashed out, ready to bring down his opponent with one final blow.
